If you think how many times they are put in deadly danger by their respective Vorta, 8 is not bad at all. 15 yo are basically the baddest and meanest war scarred veterans of the whole quadrant, 20 yo are legendary heroes of their race.

The female changeling never rejoins the great link when she arrives in the alpha quadrant at some point in Season 5 after Cardassia joins the Dominion and she states in Season 7 that her whole race is dying because of the virus/disease.

The sickness that almost destroyed the race section 31 infected odo with later and when he shared a link with the "head changling" for a lack of better ways to describe it, it became infected. Plus there were other changlings in the alpha quadrant that it would have linked with and one or more of them would have returned home and linked with everyone if the main one never returned ever after the minefield was brought down.
Wearing all that slime and goo couldn't have been comfortable for René, the make-up artists did a great job of making him look as though he was melting though.

He said they are able to fight within three days after birth but on a later episode, there was a Jem’Hadar baby who was a teen within a few hours. He was well able to fight by then

Dammit...the only negative thing I have to say for the series yet: why'd you take out Garak trying to destroy the planet? Major boss scene for both him and the Defiant, IMO. Still great work...and I'm continuing to the next episode 😊
