More Fun with the Shaper Origin

- In this video, I use the incredibly versatile Shaper Origin to do some simple projects. I love this machine!! Easy on-board capability, like circles, squares, lines, text, etc., makes many tasks quick to set up and immediately start routing!

Great video. How did you locate the circle logo to cut it down and add the date. Did you just scan it and eyeball it on the screen?
Great question…I should have addressed that. If I remember correctly, I took measurements, then set the grid to 1/32” and used those measurements as a reference. Thanks for checking it out.
My Shaper Origin impresses me every time I use it. It makes tasks like creating that template and the insert so easy that I can't imagine doing them any other way. That's a great looking barn door handle. Excellent work, Ramon. What happened to the ground pin on your big PC router :-)

Hey Ramon, just ran into your channel likely because I’ve been binge watching shaper origin videos since i picked up a Gen1 for a good price used. One of my first projects i have for my shaper is a set of cabinet door pulls. I liked your approach. But i did have a question of why didn’t you just use the Origin itself to vs having the Origin cut a template? I’m guessing you wanted to use your 1/2” shank bits that shaper doesn’t support?
Hello and welcome to the channel! Yes, you’re correct. I needed a template for the oval shape, but I also wanted a curved inside profile. I didn’t have a bit for the Shaper Origin and my available collar sizes needed that extra “ring” or spacer to use the core box router bit. The radius inside the door pull was bigger than what a 1/4” shank would create. 👍🏼 Thanks

Do you make the laser logo sheets yourself? Have a link to who can provide them?

I see you have tabs on the ring you cut at the start of the video. Can add those easily or do you have to make them part of the design?
It’s easy with the Shaper Origin. On my last pass I just raise, then re lower the cutter and continue. Such a fun machine to use. thanks

I'm not a woodworker but love watching these videos. My question is, instead of inlaying the medallion, why didn't you just use the Shaper Origin to cut the the logo/website/date into the door?
Finally someone asked!? 😬 Yes, great question. I could have but wanted to test the SO with reducing the size of the medallion as well as engraving the date. And truly, the laser engraved medallions have way better detail than the Shaper Origin can produce. I do have my leaves logo on file within (or accessible to) the SO but even with the smallest engraving bit it would cut too wide. Thanks for the input!
Cool work! Regarding your reply about laser engraving Vs shaper origin... Some of the portable lasers like the xtool F1 or potentially the laser pecker can preserve the fine detail you want? Have you looked into them?
It’s taken me many hours to get even the basics of laser engraving. Even now, I have to follow exactly what I’ve been shown by my sons; deviate from that and I’m lost. I reckon that I use 10% of whats available on the iPhone and the iPad and I’ve no idea what most of the remaining 90% might be about. So, I’m afraid this video is about a subject that’s just beyond me. I like to watch but cannot understand. It’s a different generation with a different way of thinking. And, before you all laugh too much; just wait and you will get to my stage in years to come.
Nothing to laugh at…at all. It is a different generation with a fast progression to more, faster, advanced, intricate and always changing technology. I miss the days of a regular toggle switch. It always worked. Always. If it doesn’t, it’s easy to check and simple to replace. Now we push “pretend” buttons that don’t always respond. It’s annoying when you push a digital button and nothing happens…or it’s dependent on a good signal.
That said, I love the advantages of technology…my phone is my camera. It’s my computer, my flashlight, magnifying glass, my Rolodex, notepad, an incredible and unlimited resource, it’s a huge part of my business, my office and helps me make a good living. So yeah, pros n cons to everything. It’s hard (or maybe impossible) to keep up with all realms of technology. So I only choose what I need. Thanks for watching…I sincerely appreciate it. 🙏🏼
