    When Braxton says, "...these aren't meant to be gotcha questions." He's not being honest. Let's call it his ongoing practice of pious deception.

      Few people have a “world view”. They either believe in a god or they don’t. They don’t HAVE TO explain anything, much less where the Universe came from or the original of life or why evil exists. BTW, apologists’ books are NOT scholarly. They are propaganda meant to keep the believers ignorant and happy.

    • @stevewebber707
      @stevewebber707 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In a literal sense I think a case can made that they weren't intended on being gotchas.
      He seemed to be working on some mind worm uncertainties to try and inspire in atheists.
      For example asking what percentage of certainty we have, requires examinations in whether and why we have what certainty we have.
      The problem is that as far as I'm concerned, the bible is an incoherent mess, theologically, and factually. So I don't grant that his world view has any good supporting answers at all.
      Obviously we should all have a level of uncertainty, in that we always have more to learn. That doesn't mean dropping what we have learned in favor of some superstitious BS.
      The questions are not intended for him to learn anything, they are intended for him to attempt to teach.
      If we want to be extra generous, he may be attempting something akin to Socratic questioning.
      The pious deception part, I'm all on board with.

      Even if there "was" a creator in a sense, it would basically be alien scientists creating a terrarium out of Earth. The whole "mystical" power that "god" has would just be advanced science and technology. Even then, no such thing has been proven and even if it were true, I highly doubt that the aliens would have intended for humans to develop a religion that venerates them.

    Despite Hunter's attempt to brush it away, statistical reliability is the ultimate measure of confidence. We have a mathematical framework already for this, the zero-knowledge proof. I can ask this being to perform tasks it claims it is capable of doing, and measure how often it is able to accomplish those tasks. I couldn't merely watch someone else do this test, as I couldn't be sure they weren't in cahoots. The fact that it only proves it to me and that it doesn't require a demonstration of HOW these tasks were accomplished are why it's called "zero knowledge."
    Setting aside the ambiguity of what the hell "christianity is true" means given the extremely wide spectrum of christian beliefs, I am going to shut my damn mouth and toe the line against a temperamental being who's armed with eternal conscious torment. I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't cower under within milliseconds. I wouldn't care if he were christian, muslim, pastafarian, giraffe-ist, or father festivus.
    I definitely changed toward being more progressive once I realized that there was no reason to believe any god actually exists. The ONLY reason to do any of this nonsense is because, well, that temperamental being is armed with an ECT gun pointed at my head, and HELL YES I negotiate with psychos and terrorists. Once you realize that there's no reason to assume this being exists, then what's a little buttsex between friends? It's none of my damn business. • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 ปีที่แล้ว

      "what's a little buttsex between friends?"
      there are only three reasons that same sex (especially male-male) was forbidden in the bible.
      1) it feels really damn good
      2) it was seen as diminishing the capacity to go forth and multiply
      3) it is "unclean"
      Now, number 2 doesn't make much sense because it is possible to do both buttsex and procreate. A man cannot be faithful to his wife in doing so, but the writers of The Bible weren't all that concerned if a man cheated on his wife, only if she cheated on him.
      As for number 1, let's be honest, the writers of The Bible weren't interested in anyone doing anything that might bring them joy on this earth. Your only joy was supposed to be in serving the Lord. Amazing that anyone got on board, really.
      So, that brings us to number 3. The act itself can lead to some unfortunate consequences. These days you do a little douche, no problem. Two thousand years ago, douche was probably not an option, so shit-dick would have been a real problem.

It could be pretty useful for any such discussion, and only in part because even without space and time, their gods would still be _something,_ not nothing - and that's just level 7 "nothing", two more to go 😜

    Also I love it when these people bring up morality, not only because religious based morality can often be very, very deplorable, but because they would actively argue stonning someone for working on a sabbath is morally wrong, but keep going on about the unchanging objective morality of the being they will admit USED to demand one do so, and that it WAS moral in the past but isn't now, and it no longer expects you to do it, because somehow "fulfilling" a law = changing it and not altering a single jot = making every single line of the Mossaic laws not be valid anymore, except for those parts they randomly decided still apply, even though Jésus never mentions any such distinctions anywhere.
    And of course while sidestepping the entire issue of how a being could be moral ordering people to commit acts they would now view as immoral, while also being 100 % constant and unchanging.

    Oh, and just for your information, fairies can't fly: that's why Corgis have ears that can move independently like chameleons' eyes. When fairies saddle up their Corgis, they magically endow the Corgis with the ability to flap their ears like a hummingbiyurd. With that capability, Corgis carrying fairies can go ANYWHERE. Fairies get a ride wherever they want to go and Corgis get to the REFRIGERATOR.
