I think they should sell most of the optional accessories separately and offer the figure at a lower price tag. Not everyone cares about having Screamer’s head, or little Spike figurines that are crap.

Hey u can remove the blue pod from the tower, and directly plug it onto roller, as per instructions, but the remaining tower can be used as a stand for Optimus by plugging the groove from the back of Optimus butt to the blue piece connecting the tower like shown on the back of the box, as this is not in the instructions. Enjoy!
Great review Peaugh. While I will stick with MP-10 due to the price and knee issues, I have to admit that the robot's fit and finish is great. The articulation is awesome and the Peter C voice clips are icing. Im in the minority, but I think the vehicle mode looks plain without thesilver stripe and the blue outline on the trailer. I could see Hasbro bringing this with just the cab/gun/matrix/axe, removing the Jpn voice clips, changing the knees and selling it for $250 through online specialty stores or Amazon.
The silver-striping isn’t cartoon accurate. It was put there because they didn’t know how to have an accurate truck mode without having to make the robot mode inaccurate.

I really feel like the transformation for this figure is complicated for complex sake. I think that the engineers could've at the very least simplified the transformation for the legs more if they wanted too. MP-36 Megatron has a more organic alt mode and yet it seems less complicated to transform than the symmetrical box-like truck of Optimus lmao
You can take the top of the drone piece off and put it on Roller which is where it becoming the stand for mp44 comes in, there is a back panel on the drone that unpegs
Clearly the designer of this figure is a black belt in Origami. Insane transformation, and a good looking Optimus, but MP-10 is still king. Cheaper, less backpack, better rifle storage, and he's still a damn good match for the animation model. Oh, and he's less likely to give you a stress induced aneurysm from trying to transform him. Also, that clip on the hand is *DEFINITELY* going to break after a few goes at plugging the axe hand in, don't do it.
There is a section on the back of the drone that can be pulled down and you can lift the drone off the stand and then use that drone/stand for Optimus (whether it can support him I know not) Yes, like I said on Twitter, got two left rear thigh panels on mine, so nice how it just doesn't quite line up. Not noticeable if you don't look for it too hard but a bit of a shame. First Transformations of most of these newer MPs is just naturally scary for me. Every snap and use of force is a little frightening considering the money spent. Yeah, that damaged Prime head is also hard to get out of that storage space for me. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the bent antenna on his head is accurate to the show and not because they got bent in the package. Honestly didn't notice the knee issue till I started reading about it online. Cause I don't think I played with him much beyond transforming him a couple times.
love mp-10. I definitely believe this is more show-accurate, but its complex and thin design has me worried if its durable enough to withstand a lot of transformations.
I'd trust Takara would make one that could last, especially since in less capable hands this is one of those transformations that can easily go from zero to disastrous real quick.

The transformation is insane in a good way, it just accomplishes the impossible. The mini figures are insane in a bad way, too small to work. The price is insane period.

Just ordered my MP44. I did not have the job I did when Mp10 came out. So never got him. All I got was year of the horse & Shattered glass version. & I do want the ghost busters version.Mp44 will be my MP10.
Great review, mind blown by how they got two modes with different shapes to fold I to each other. I did notice that the matrix wasn't shown. Probably nothing we haven't seen before, but just an observation.
Ok, I'll admit it, this is mind-blowing, specially the articulation and the Peter Cullen voices, BUT there are some parts that do scare me, specially the tiny bits with hinges and the hand removing and I still believe the price is way too insane, I know I'm at my very first job(more of a paid internship), but this toy is three months of my entire paycheck. I really, REALLY wish they'd do lite versions of these new overengineered Masterpieces, I'd be more than satisfied with just the cab and the rifle without anything else.
Optimus Prime, to me, is the equivalent of Captain America, except for robots, ALL robots; specially with the white on him, like with this version. Now, all he needs is a disk shield with the Autobot symbol on it to hurl at Decepticons, while blasting 'em with his rifle.
Am a bit late, but might be a good idea to put a lil bit of future floor polish on the minifigures ball joints so they can hopefully stay on. I haven't tried this out myself as I don't own MP-44, but I'm considering putting some on the minifigures.
Mine has a tiny spot of chipped paint on the foot. The gray paint seems to match the abdomen where you scratched yours. What paint would you use to fix it? I just want to touch up that spot and not paint the entire area.
Has any one ever noticed too with this Optimus prime, With the way his head comes off. You can even recrate the comics scene where shockwave just took his head for a few issues. & right there just left the body. That is what I am thinking of with this prime. That is a added bonus feature.
Edit: Just watch Wincharger's Bot Review, and the Flight Stand still works, so that's no longer an issue. As for those mini figures, there's no reason those should have those issues. Those issues should have been resolve after Test Shots were made. Slightly larger ball joints, problem solved. As for the figure itself I am impressed with the leg transformation & the end result, for the Cab, not so much. Overall the straight on front view is impressive.
I do notice from a lot of the photos and reviews out there, that he tends to have a knock kneed look when standing. I'm sure there's a way to orientate the figure to where that's not the case, but just plopping him down, but it seems to naturally present that way.
It makes sense for it to be that way though considering it's trying to emulate the cartoon and really from what I've seen? It doesn't look to be BS levels of complex. It's more the kind of complex where everything works in such an intuitive and creative way that when you figure out a part of it? It's like you accomplished something instead of sighing with relief that it's all over.
They probably used sound clips from other prime figures and ripped from episodes to save money. If he was asked, I reckon Peter Cullen would be more than happy to get in a soundbooth to record lines for a Prime toy

I have to say that, every new masterpiece optimus prime, the transformation is getting increasingly way too complicated to pretty much you have to take the whole thing apart. Wish they could make it so the transformation step is simpler, elegant and the most important thing, enjoyable!
I had the same problem. You probably missed the upward peg between the legs that goes underneath the crotch. It's key to help the alignment of the side panels, chrome tanks, etc which helps set the correct length and level out the whole truck.
Am I the only person who thinks the ratcheting joints are like the coolest fucking thing? In the movie Cup's Elbow made a ratcheting noise after Hot Rod fixed him up.
Anybody who works at home who plans on transforming this during a 15 minute break is going to go hungry. also when I saw a few photos of this being transformed on the internet I knew this is going to be absolute madness This isn't a transformation this is robotic origami
@Master Farr He's meaning more specifically that if MP-10 had come with the trailer and rifle that came with MP-44 (which are different from what came with MP-10 in many different ways.) that it would've been a perfect Prime.
I'm torn. I'm not going to say the figure looks bad. It looks fantastic. But it's odd to me that Takara is essentially making Bumblebee and now Optimus super complex shellformers in order to more closely match animation models that were ALL OVER THE PLACE. I appreciate going for the animation look, but the transformation ends up being nothing like the original toys. Shouldn't that be part of the "Masterpiece experience" as well?
i thought the gas tanks on his legs in robot mode were white, im pretty sure that's how they were in the cartoon. oh well, maybe a knockoff will fix that
My MP-44's left knee was broken out of the box so I took it apart and glued it. I'll probably regret using super glue down the line, but it's all I had to hand. Inexcusable design and QC from Takara. I feel like tracking the designer down and asking for a refund in person! The entire figure feels cheap as well. TE-01 is better built, if not quite as cartoon accurate or articulate.
The design for the knees is flawed... but I think people don't really get this about QC. It's understandable to be angry, especially when you're paying almost $500 for a figure but the reality is that really there's no price where QC issues just stop happening and it's always possible you may just end up with a bad copy.
@@alienrefugee51 Because I can't. The retailer won't take a hit on a £300 plus figure for which they cannot recover their own costs, particularly since HasTak has terrible after sales support. They are supposedly trying to 'work with' Hasbro to find a solution, but we're not talking about one or two isolated incidents that they can replace from their own stock here. This is a design and QC issue that seemingly affects the entire production run to some degree or another and they cannot afford to absorb the costs. It's the risk of importing expensive collectibles. At least most third-party companies will offer replacement parts etc, but it seems as though HasTak not only overcharges, but refuses to acknowledge the flaws or remedy them. Hardly any wonder people buy KOs and the like.
It was £330 from TFS-E before it was released (unless you qualified for their loyalty scheme, then it was £280), but it's gone up to £340 now. Kapow are a fair bit more expensive at around £365 with a non-mint box. My private seller could only get it for around £345 delivered, so about the same as TFS-E is now.
Really, it's what you can expect when you're taking a model from a cartoon that has the benefits that the medium offers and trying your best to recreate it in physical form where you're hampered by limitations that weren't present before.
george I’m gonna let you know right off the bat that I am not flaming you! Many people find it very difficult to differentiate between QC and QA and sometimes use it interchangeably. In this case I think you mean QC. I don’t know how anyone can say that this toy is garbage and drop a number like 30%. Imperfections and defects can be a result of other external conditions like shipping. Don’t get me wrong, anything is subject to QC issues, but a lot of problems can arise from shipping conditions. Vibration from shipping may not outwardly damage the box, but can propagate microfractures and cause paint rub. These may have rolled out of the factory perfect but depending on who shipped may be damaged. Amazon japan was bad with multiple paint chips, the 2 from TCP was great, and the copy I got from japan in person was fine. The knee is a design issue. Not a QC issue. Just want to make sure youre not misled or misleading people
@@nemesis_lime the knee is a qc issue because the ratchet breaks apart once you start bending the lower half of the knee. Along with the paint chips and the smaller figures coming apart. Hastak didn't addressed any of these things when they should of. And the price for it is ridiculous. It is obvious they have gotten both lazy and greedy.

Also it's still just a design issue because as people like Emgo show, if you're careful with it you can bend the knee with no issues or if you do what Peaugh did and go in and fix it yourself? The knees work just fine.
@@nemesis_lime it's garbage for over $340 USD, absolutely overpriced, I have this damn toy. 30% comes from my personal experience of ordering MPs, 3/10 times i get issues, probably more like 4/10 (40%) I don't know how many times you've ordered MPs before, if you hadn't had problems, then you are SUPER lucky. the imperfections i got on mine were not due to shipping, the plastic failed to protect any scraping on the toy, not even sure how anything could have been moving when everything is so tightly packed. And, I don't know you can explain tabs not fitting in properly a shipping issue. Maybe before you explain how things can go wrong, try to ask specifically what went wrong
Jetpack I could see but trailer I don't see what they could've done outside of maybe doing a soundbox that references the one that came with the G2 rerelease of the original toy.

MP-44 Optimus Prime needs a remold. Here is what I want to see in version 4 Masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime: a cartoon-accurate truck mode (Both front and back) and a cartoon-accurate robot mode (Front and back). In truck mode in the back, no robot mode kibble and in robot mode, no huge backpack kibble. That's what I want to see in version 4 Masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime.
I too, want a magical unicorn who will bring me a bazillion, jillion dollars. 🤦♂️ Engineering has to go somewhere. No figure is ever going to be perfect and kibble free

I wouldnt count on it. Hasbro and Takara have a unified approach to TF development now. It'll be a stretch.

I gotta be honest, I much prefer MP-10 on so many levels... I think he looks fantastic in both bot and alt mode, and the transformation is fun too

I'd trust they'd be fine to handle so long as you don't go in like an oaf and force parts you shouldn't be forcing and are cautious.

I have to say that, every new masterpiece optimus prime, the transformation is getting increasingly way too complicated to pretty much you have to take the whole thing apart. Wish they could make it so the transformation step is simpler, elegant and the most important thing, enjoyable!
Do you still have an MP01? that would be a cool comparison and look at the evolution of the engineering and stuff

I had the same problem. You probably missed the upward peg between the legs that goes underneath the crotch. It's key to help the alignment of the side panels, chrome tanks, etc which helps set the correct length and level out the whole truck.
Am I the only person who thinks the ratcheting joints are like the coolest fucking thing? In the movie Cup's Elbow made a ratcheting noise after Hot Rod fixed him up.
Like the toy even sounds like a cybertronian robot when it moves is what I mean I guess.
Anybody who works at home who plans on transforming this during a 15 minute break is going to go hungry.

@Master Farr He's meaning more specifically that if MP-10 had come with the trailer and rifle that came with MP-44 (which are different from what came with MP-10 in many different ways.) that it would've been a perfect Prime.

I'm torn. I'm not going to say the figure looks bad. It looks fantastic. But it's odd to me that Takara is essentially making Bumblebee and now Optimus super complex shellformers in order to more closely match animation models that were ALL OVER THE PLACE. I appreciate going for the animation look, but the transformation ends up being nothing like the original toys. Shouldn't that be part of the "Masterpiece experience" as well?

My MP-44's left knee was broken out of the box so I took it apart and glued it. I'll probably regret using super glue down the line, but it's all I had to hand. Inexcusable design and QC from Takara. I feel like tracking the designer down and asking for a refund in person! The entire figure feels cheap as well. TE-01 is better built, if not quite as cartoon accurate or articulate.

The design for the knees is flawed... but I think people don't really get this about QC. It's understandable to be angry, especially when you're paying almost $500 for a figure but the reality is that really there's no price where QC issues just stop happening and it's always possible you may just end up with a bad copy.
@@alienrefugee51 Because I can't. The retailer won't take a hit on a £300 plus figure for which they cannot recover their own costs, particularly since HasTak has terrible after sales support. They are supposedly trying to 'work with' Hasbro to find a solution, but we're not talking about one or two isolated incidents that they can replace from their own stock here. This is a design and QC issue that seemingly affects the entire production run to some degree or another and they cannot afford to absorb the costs.
It's the risk of importing expensive collectibles. At least most third-party companies will offer replacement parts etc, but it seems as though HasTak not only overcharges, but refuses to acknowledge the flaws or remedy them. Hardly any wonder people buy KOs and the like.

The best Masterpiece Optimus Prime to date. If ever I have one, it'll stay in Robot Mode and keep all that it comes with in the box untouched.

This guys is almost £400in the UK.
It was £330 from TFS-E before it was released (unless you qualified for their loyalty scheme, then it was £280), but it's gone up to £340 now. Kapow are a fair bit more expensive at around £365 with a non-mint box. My private seller could only get it for around £345 delivered, so about the same as TFS-E is now.

Really, it's what you can expect when you're taking a model from a cartoon that has the benefits that the medium offers and trying your best to recreate it in physical form where you're hampered by limitations that weren't present before.
Takara's QA is garbage on this figure, there's always like 30% chance you're gonna get imperfections or defects
george I’m gonna let you know right off the bat that I am not flaming you! Many people find it very difficult to differentiate between QC and QA and sometimes use it interchangeably. In this case I think you mean QC. I don’t know how anyone can say that this toy is garbage and drop a number like 30%. Imperfections and defects can be a result of other external conditions like shipping. Don’t get me wrong, anything is subject to QC issues, but a lot of problems can arise from shipping conditions. Vibration from shipping may not outwardly damage the box, but can propagate microfractures and cause paint rub. These may have rolled out of the factory perfect but depending on who shipped may be damaged. Amazon japan was bad with multiple paint chips, the 2 from TCP was great, and the copy I got from japan in person was fine. The knee is a design issue. Not a QC issue. Just want to make sure youre not misled or misleading people
@@nemesis_lime the knee is a qc issue because the ratchet breaks apart once you start bending the lower half of the knee. Along with the paint chips and the smaller figures coming apart. Hastak didn't addressed any of these things when they should of. And the price for it is ridiculous. It is obvious they have gotten both lazy and greedy.
@@thespaceram2879 Not really, I mean it's expensive for sure but when you see the amount of engineering that went into the toy, all the stuff it comes with, the materials it's made out of I'm assuming and the features? I don't blame them for pricing it so high. It's crazy but still. Also it's still just a design issue because as people like Emgo show, if you're careful with it you can bend the knee with no issues or if you do what Peaugh did and go in and fix it yourself? The knees work just fine.

30% comes from my personal experience of ordering MPs, 3/10 times i get issues, probably more like 4/10 (40%)
I don't know how many times you've ordered MPs before, if you hadn't had problems, then you are SUPER lucky.
the imperfections i got on mine were not due to shipping, the plastic failed to protect any scraping on the toy, not even sure how anything could have been moving when everything is so tightly packed. And, I don't know you can explain tabs not fitting in properly a shipping issue. Maybe before you explain how things can go wrong, try to ask specifically what went wrong

Jetpack I could see but trailer I don't see what they could've done outside of maybe doing a soundbox that references the one that came with the G2 rerelease of the original toy.

does anyone actually remember the time when transformers (especially g1 and beastwars) had amazing box art, like REAL ART from a REAL ARTIST which were made by hand and not on a computerprogram and which are still, after more than 30 years highly valued and collected? like fe a vintage scorponok box with this amazing art on it? and what we get here for more than 450 (!!) dollars is just the lamest, uninspired, useless box i can imagine which has absolutely no value at all.

MP-44 Optimus Prime needs a remold. Here is what I want to see in version 4 Masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime: a cartoon-accurate truck mode (Both front and back) and a cartoon-accurate robot mode (Front and back). In truck mode in the back, no robot mode kibble and in robot mode, no huge backpack kibble. That's what I want to see in version 4 Masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime.
I too, want a magical unicorn who will bring me a bazillion, jillion dollars. 🤦♂️ Engineering has to go somewhere. No figure is ever going to be perfect and kibble free

@@flamingharleyrider1215 MP-10 had really long arms, but MP-44 is pretty much spot on. I just did a two hour unboxing video with animation still references and they at least got that right. Pity about all the stuff the got wrong.
