TE-01 is the most accurate and best out of all of them. But I think MS-01 is my favorite. I like how there is a bit of overdesigning on it like the thick legs and little mechanical sculpting.
He is damn good, if they re-released him specifically to compete with the higloss paint finish, chrome and maybe minor de-blockification of his torso, I bet they could sell a lot more. They're already barely discernible if you squint. Not sure about TE's posability though.
Is it just me or the MP10is still the best? Cartoon drawings were never really that good, they were simplified in order to be animated cheaply, any old masterpice figure is way better than its cartoon representation.
Ko 😆... You really think Takara... with this price tag isn't protecting there investment... No ko coming out anytime soon or at all... Stop being cheap n pay for cartoon accuracy... Mp-44 is gorgeous n the possibility is beyond anything out here in the market.. mp-36 coming in at second 🤷🙌
@@Ecybertron9521 lol, my $60 THF Megatron does everything your MP-36 can, and looks better doing it. Slamming him for being cheap reeks of buyers remorse to me. How those 450$ knees treating you Chief? Handle with care now!
As an owner of both, they both have great features, but I have to strongly disagree with you on this. In hand, MP-44 is easily the highest achievement in character realization that has been made so far. He is definitively the best Optimus prime figure ever made. Unfortunately, his price is beyond defensible.
Kevin Loomer Legs 🦵 yeah not sure about that. When it functions then it is an achievement, when the QC breaks the figure ....emm not an achievement. Also back of the legs atrocious. So I stand by TE OP best, not even mentioning price.
With the MP-44 KO finally circulating I found myself coming back to to this video finding it more relevant again. Now that all 4 figures (if you go the ko vs official) are roughly the same price I find myself comparing again. My takeaway: MP-10: A classic. great for what it was for a long time. Still looks good, but outdated Magic Square: Feels like a modern take on MP-10, a little bulkier/beefier with slightly less cartoon accurate look (going off grill). Sculpt is amazing, despite the slight hit to cartoon accuracy, It nails prime as prime. only personal nitpick I can think of is Axe over-hand-equip bulb is kind big and less elegant comparatively, but that's a minor nitpick. - If your picky about toon accuracy, then I'd say its between TE and MP-44, TE: Doesn't have goofy backpack, back/legs clean up much better, truck/cab mode cleans up much better than MP-44 MP-44 (official): Beautiful Paint Paint Paint is what sets this apart from the others (along with accessories, or voice chip if that's your thing)... tradeoff is the goofy backpack and problematic knees. The expensive price is a huge deterrent for me and many others. Which is were the KO comes in. MP-44 (KO): Fixes knees, brings it home with a reasonable price tag, but trades off the slick paint and trailer (and possible slight tolerances depending on your figure) Overall Verdict (trailer aside): I'd say go MP-44(or KO) only if you want peace of mind knowing it is closer to official, want a good cartoon accurate static front displayed robot mode Optimus prime in a basic stance. Many robust poses can look off if you are bothered by the backpack like I am. Go TE if you want cartoon accuracy and are gonna pose or display Prime (beyond frontal A-stance). He will look great form most angles due clean all around look and look good in alt(cab) mode. Go Magic Square if your not ocd about toon accuracy, and want a rugged looking prime that still nails the character and takes a queue from the best parts of MP-10. These variants also give you room to distinguish a Nemesis Prime from an Optimus if that's your thing. It really just depends on what gives you best peace of mind and what will go best with your display, which can vary between cartoon cast accuracy to just highlighting favorite characters, dioramas, etc. I would only advise of being very committed to the official before pulling the trigger, due to the high price. These are all competitive and comparable enough offerings (trailer aside). if your still filling a large collection, the price difference between the official and any other alternative can net you a few extra MP scale bots for your collection. What's great is that they are all close enough and good enough at their own things that any one will work great.
...TMReviews! Am not gonna lie! I honestly feel you've been the most honest reviewer with the comparisons. Don't get wrong I like Mp-44, but some of these reviewers have those Takara Vaseline Glasses hazy every takara looks great look. Like for example you can't deny that MP-44 does look gapy, and panely, and a bit of a mess in some places. Like the separations in the legs, you can see the red panels, the back of the legs looks messy, the sides as you pointed out looks odd! Compare to the MS and TE, mp44 is not as clean. But imo the overall proportion and aesthetics is like they combined them both. But some reviewers are literally saying is superior in every way! Am like Dang! Talk about Bias Reviews. Sorry to hear there's no exchanges and the price went up! I don't blame you for Not wanting to pay the Difference! Even at $350 imo that's too much! That prime should be no more than $220. As always great videos!🌟❤
Me too. I’ll get a MP scaled Magic Square over all those others. I already have the scaled down, legends scale Magic Square Prime and it’s almost exactly like it’s larger version. I love it. Pocket sized. I’m definitely getting the larger version.
I never thought mp10 would be beat, honestly. I actually like the te and ms better than the mp44, especially the backpack and back of legs. I like the fat, massive ms version and the clean legs and red cab of te. Mp44 looks great though but neh.🤷
this thing is overpriced for no reason. “Fans toys” would do it way better, any other third party company would do it better. I ‘ll get TE 01 for sure. Great review, thank you.
@@TMReviews Yeah, but they were making a pretty big deal about Unicron being "the largest transformer ever". I guess it's not a huge deal since they've funded it now, but FT Fort Max is going to make Haslab Unicron look ridiculous. I'm really interested to see how they price it.
@Rey med I'm not sure what you mean, all fans toys designs are original, they haven't copied a single design and usually they have the best (not always) of any third party company.
I like no 44’s look and nice accessories paint everywhere and yes I guess the voice function is cool if you are into that thing but I gotta say that none of that seems to say to me worth 450 dollars it’s a trend I notice with hasbro figures since the megs figure rising prices for products overpricing seems to be their new corporate mandate but enough ranting TE-01 seems not only affordable but very comparable thanks for the comparisons
When i very 1st transformed it , it was a nightmare the instruction are useless without understanding japanese but after finally getting my head around it and doing it a couple more times its not that bad !!
Why do Takara and other 3rd party companies make complex and complicated transformations? Because they like it. Any figure like this are easy for them to mess with. For Japanese and some others had complimented the mp44 and mp44s transformation for having strong logic. When they transform it, they make it look smooth. U know what? I gotta agree.
I got the Daban copy of Generation Toy's Op Ex for $53. Not only was the price awesome but I think this Optimus Prime looks far superior to any of these in both robot and alt mode. I grew up loving the cartoon but when I saw the IDW version of this in a review by Emgo I found an Optimus Prime better than the cartoon version. I missed out on the figure when it was first sold and then stumbled across the Daban mold copy around Xmas. Wow it is perfect. So glad I decided to hold out. Transform Element definitely has my vote out of the ones you showed but the IDW version I have is so much cooler. Funny enough some of the issues I saw for Op Ex seem to have been fixed with this reproduction. The feet are tighter and don't flex out easily and the doors on the arms peg in and hold better than any of the reviews I saw for it. Huge win on this figure.
MS-01X it is, though to be fair to TE I'm not looking for a completely cartoon accurate Optimus or it might get the nod. As for MP-44, I don't really care about a trailer that I'll never display let alone play with, or most of the accessories that I'd lose in a couple of months. The mad articulation is nice, but really all that it has going for it. Also at my current cash flow I couldn't justify a $500 transformer if it transformed in one step and looked exactly like the cartoon in both modes.
I purchased the MAGIC SQUARE MS-01X LIGHT OF FREEDOM - METALLIC COLOR and is just the best... I hope infinity transformation will make a mp44 version as their mp36 version is just amazing
Hasui's designs for the Masterpiece line were a wonderful blend of cartoon, toy and a little unique extra to ultimately create a figure that was worthy of being called a Masterpiece while maintaining a decent price point so a collector could in theory collect them all if need be. I HATE the utterly over the top obsession with cartoon accuracy, it comes at a high price to purchase and overly complicated transformations that are NOT fun to do, I can sit and watch TV and transform Tigertrack over and over. You can't do that with the Sunstreaker/Cordon mold, you have to set aside an hour to switch modes with that and you have to be delicate since some hinges are so thin/tiny you can break them with just a sneeze! I'm truly thankful for finally having the vans done justice (Ironhide and Ratchet) and they came with good prices AND a bunch of extras but for me that is as far as cartoon accuracy should go. It annoys me because I NEED Mirage, but even though his cartoon form actually transforms like the toy I can see Takara giving him an over engineered transform sequence for really no damn reason.
You're right, I'm done with the masterpieces, I'll buy the old ones that I miss then I'll stop. I'm not really interested in cartoon accuracy, the cartoons drawings were not really good to begin with, they were simplified in order to be animated easily. BTW, not painting the iconic stripe in truck mode was really stupid, he has it on his chest in bot mode! And if they were going for cartoon accuracy, why the fuck the truck has rectangular headlights instead of square ones like in the cartoon? And why the cab's windshield is not sloped like in the cartoon? These two details were far more important for toon accuracy; you can't make a 1:1 version of the real truck then just remove a stripe, that's not really toon accuracy.
@@souljastation5463 The rectangular headlights bother me on MP-44 because they're just to thin and wide, but TE-01 where they are thicker but just as wide doesn't. As far as no stripe in vehicle mode when he has it on his torso in robot mode I think it's ok, they're transformers the grey stripe could be from something you don't see in vehicle mode but when he transforms it is visible. And my thinking about why the windshield isn't sloped in vehicle mode like in the cartoon is it would take extra engineering for a minute detail. And that could possible complicate transformations more than they already are or need to be. Yes it isn't cartoon accurate that they aren't sloped but it isn't the end of the world. Considering how cartoon accurate the rest of the vehicle modes are at least for MP-44 and TE-01 along with robot modes that look like they walked right out of the cartoon.
MP-44 looks like daddy long legs with that short torso. I hope TE does another Prime re-release so they can get that belt buckle to match the rest of the waist. Hopefully they can include a sticker set so we can get a cell shaded windshield affect.
I'll be the odd-ball. I never thought MP10 looked right, due to the head, broad shoulders, narrow waist and the bulky lower legs. I don't like how MS-01's hip/rear skirts operate, and no trailer hitch. TE-01's has a lack of neck and skinny upper thighs. My faves are ultimately, MP-01(!) and MS-01 because I like my Primes to be 'muscular'.
Great review. Gotta go with TE this go around. Guess we will see in a few months how Hasbro/Takara responds, just too many small issues for such a high price point.
@@TMReviews I did and for the price it should be flawless without the issues you and from a lot of other people are having. Id love to see a painted te-01 and i think would improve on an already good figure. Agree a new starscream would be good to as that headsculpt is awesome!
@@TMReviews Look forward to your reviews on bumbleebee 2.0 and hound when they release... i cant deal with that floating head i have seen in pics on hound.
I like the trailer a lot. Love what they did with roller, the accessory storage tray, the ramp. The figure itself looks like a nightmare to transform and that coupled with the price just put me off.
@@TMReviews Yea I just watch Palk do it. It's makes Badcube Sunsurge look like transforming a G1 Go Bot. I give Takara credit for the phenomenal engineering but I'm sticking with TE-01 for now. Maybe someday tho. Thanks for the review and the comparison of the various Optimi.
I love the look of MP-44. I have MP-01, the original MP prime with trailer. As much as I like MP-44, it's to expensive for me. Maybe if they sell one with out the trailer. For now I really want to get MP-36 Megatron. Also MP-13 soundwave is coming out again for a good price.
I think the best Optimus Prime for casual fans and people who want cheap masterpieces is MP10,best Optimus Prime for G1 accuracy is MP44 and if you want a cheap and g1 accurate Optimus Prime at the same time then the best option is TE01
Great review! I have MP-44 but I’m nervous about Transforming it because of all the issues I keep hearing. Do you have to send your MP-44 back to Amazon Japan? Just curious what the process is incase mine breaks.
You get more for your money with that price tag? I think it’s still too expensive, even with all the stuff it comes with, considering MP10 was 1/3 of what MP44 costs.
TMReviews definitely will share your video in helping others as not everyone is able to collect all versions and able to get honest review...so far the other reviewers sound like Takara Tomy fanboys
Cartoon accurate vehicle modes if TE-01 had the same kind of grill as MP-44 some yellow paint on the bumper and no windshield wipers it would tie for cartoon accuracy. Overall TE-01 is the all around best masterpiece styled Optimus Prime in my personal opinion. I think it looks the best in vehicle and robot modes it has the best transformation and is still cartoon accurate.
36:17 comparing the accessories is the funniest because let's be honest. TE doesn't need a lot of the accessories because you can just use the MP-10's Trailer because he comes with a hitch. MS is just there if you only care about the cab section. Oh yeah TE and MS are also both 1/4th of MP-44's price so you also have to consider that. MP-10 came with a lot of accessories and MP-10 was pretty much just half the price of MP-44 as well. In all honestly, when will you EVER use MP-44's accessories? Most people just leave them in the box same with MP-10 and just keep Optimus in robot mode and with his gun. After saying all of these, I still don't see how you will get a bang for your buck for accessories that will most likely stay in your box. That accessory package pretty much cost more than TE, MS or MP-10 with its accessories since I feel like that extra $200 you're paying is just for accessories.
Many ppl feel that MP 44 is The Prime. I think its not evn close. For a company like Takara to make a Prime less then TE is just Careless. Now imagine MP 44 was TE Prime with the Paint. Now That is The Prime.
What's crazy is much as I liked Despotron Takara Megatron closed the door on all the 3P versions(luckily it was KOd). It feels like they dropped the ball here and upped the price. I do think 44 looks better than TE and moves better than MS but it's only better by slim margins. Once you factor in the design, paint, and price issues both of the 3Ps are better options(imo). I'm still in on the KO though!
nice review TM. i`m happy with the TE as well i wish it had a little more articulation but with more articulation comes even more floppiness.i know a lot of people love it must be rose color sunglass i just dont see it. i dont like all the panels looks like a mess. the sound chip who cares should have found a way of putting the sound into the gun some how like they did with megatron. and got rid of that huge back pack.
You literally showed a picture of the G1 toon Optimus next to MP-44, TE-01, and the MS one, and said we can see that MP-44 is the most accurate... If anything that direct comparison made it clear that MP-44 and TE-01 are almost both just as accurate from the front with TE-01 winning just barely due to a more accurate belly and "codpiece", and from all other angles TE-01 has it all day.
Thank You for a good honest review of this guy. I feel the exact same way. IMO TE is the best overall version. The only thing this version beats everything else is the straight on front view. Cartoon actuate, paint is outstanding. I don’t like all the red parts the come thru in robot mode. The backpack is not ideal but it’s not displayed that way and he seems a bit floppy. If any 3rd party did this it would be inexcusable. I think some have blinders on when it comes to official MP. Definitely not worth the price even with all the accessories. Great review! Keep it up.
I appreciate the comparison u made on this video but i also like to see how mp44 stand up next mpm4 prime. All the mp44 videos review ive seen, not one tuber show compares it with mpm4
TE01 very clean and look anime accurate overall in truck mode... for the price tag of the MP-44 they should have done better with the kibbles. But if I paid for an MP-44 I probably convince myself too that its the best hehehe
Another KO wish list for me, this Prime is swimming with accessories and yet it can’t seem to get the basic right, especially when people expect Takara would get it right. I would rather have a clean kibbleless robot mode without voice box than having a huge speaking school bag hanging behind prime’s back, and it does not even speak English that much. (No offence to Japanese voice version but I grew up watching English version and there are a lot of English speaking buyers out there, two lines are not suffice.) if they have wanted to create the most animate accurate bot, they shouldn’t have created that voice box in the first place. It seems a pretty cheap way to hide the front part of the truck in robot mode.
The voice box absolutely should have been placed inside the gun, or simply done away, I'm sure the back could have been A LOT more compact if not for it.
As much as I think MP-44 looks amazing, from what you've shown it has some major flaws, mainly the knee. I noticed the wobble in some of the joints, mostly in the legs. As show accurate as it is, it's WAY too overpriced, even with all of the accessories. Now if they manage to fix those flaws AND maybe package it without the trailer and less accessories for a much smaller price, I might consider getting it because lets be honest, I doubt most of us are going to even use the majority of those accessories. Mainly using the cannon and axe, like with all the Primes we've gotten. If I had to choose a masterpiece Prime, I'd go with the Transform Elements, it looks close to show accurate, with the second optional head attached.
Thank you for the great review and your honesty👏🏻. I was on the fence about this figure, due to the price, but I think I’m gonna pass on MP-44 and put my money on Haslab Unicron.
Mp 44 is better than the mp 10 it replaces. But Back when the mp 10 first came out, it was $250 which wasn’t that bad of a deal compared to today’s mp pricing. Then hasbro came out with the toys r us version with everything that the takara one has for $100 which was an absolute steal. Mp 44 is better than mp10, but it isn’t 2x to 4x the figure that mp 10 is. Absolutely no excuse for takara to be selling mp 44 for $450. I couldn’t buy TF masterpiece back in the mp10 era because I couldn’t afford it (as a kid) but even now I see that hasn’t change. The only masterpiece style figures I have are mpm’s and 3rd parties.
Just me or these MP44 legs are very floppy? prime almost fall 4 times, in every review I saw his legs are kinda spit and when you shake him (20:20) you can see the legs move a bit
The problem is the space between the ratchets, I didn't cover this problem in the review because it's subjective but the space causes loose legs that flop a bit when you pick him up and put him down.
Couldn’t agree more. Same issue with arm panel also one of my leg panels. Mine was not even aligned properly out of the box and couldn’t adjust it so the truck would even roll. Paint blemishes on mine, sprue marks also. Does he shine? Yep does he look like the toon? Yep. are you getting $325-$450 worth of quality? Absolutely not. They couldn’t even get the damn head right on the most iconic bot in the mine. Antennas are terrible. I should have sent Shaun love my TE for some paint and called it a day. Back to back failures in my opinion. I know I stand in the minority but sunstreaker sucked for me. Not because of engineering or the sculpt but because I have 3-4 shades of damn yellow! If your going to up the damn price then up the damn quality and find someone or something that can paint a figure consistently. This is old news though. Going back to my original sideswipe, he had shotty paint also. Half the damn gun didn’t get paint almost. Scrap half the extras and make better damn figure if your supoosed to be the so called masterpiece.
Ya, I am willing to pay a premium for quality, but Takara has lost their way. I never thought the day would come where I would rather buy 3P, but that is the current state.
TMReviews yep! Once again I agree. The release is too much substance not enough weight and quality for the price range. 3rd party will get more of my money as well.
Honestly out of all of these TE-01 is probably my favorite. He's great value for money, pulls off the screen accurate look very well, has great build quality, a clean sculpt, and he's great value for money. I think both the TE and MS are way better value for money than MP-44. Comparing TE-01 to my MP-44, I kind of regret paying that much for a product that came with a couple QC issues. While the issues aren't serious, for that money I was expecting a product that was close to being perfect. I have all three in my collection, although the TE is the only one I currently have displayed, and if I had to buy them all over again I'd probably stick with just TE and a KO MP-10 trailer.
my personal opinion is te-01 gets the cartoon optimus down amazingly its extremely accurate but magic square gets iconic optimus down magic square i think was going for what we all remember optimus as rather then what he actually was which is why i think he is just a updated mp-10 both are what people think of when they think of optimus mp-44 in my opinion losses to te-01 because of the price and overly complicated transformation that makes a lot of people just say "fuck it" and never transform it more then 5 times
I gotta give Takara and MP44 credit on a couple of things, the proportions are beautiful and the paint is just GORGEOUS, I wish my TE01 wa painted that way! But as for everything else, I agree 100%, MP44 is just not worth the price for the risk of bad QC, and it's a damn shame because it's become a trend lately, both my movie Ironhide and Barricade had desperatingly bad issues. I *might* still pick it up if price goes down drastically or if someone sells it secondhand.
The MS-01 Optimus Prime is the best out of the group. I wished a company would make transformers accurate to the cartoon i mean don't get me wrong there are some pretty nice masterpieces our there but would really love to see them look just like they do in the cartoons. I bet NECA could pull that off but they have to transform they can't be like the R.E.D action figures.
Love your honest review. Was going to get this at preorder yet hesitated. I feel lucky not to get him and resort to TE01 instead. Looking at it love the engineering and additional accessories and features. Its just integrity of the build made it less solid and a real bad QC dampens MP44. If he is offered at a KO with cured issues, might pick him up and that would justify the price :)
No idea what some are smoking in the comments. But the mp44 looks identical to the transformers the movie version. People saying he looks weird from different angles? Watch the film and see. Just thought I'd mention this.
If I weren't a broke college student, I'd probably go with the magic square due to its sculpt. I'm aware that it's screen accurate but the squashed midsection of mp-44 and te-01 (and mp-36 for that matter) has always driven me crazy. Also can the other 2 pull off an mp fatimus prime look? I don't think so
I think the release of MP44 signifies a new era of Masterpiece for Takara. Hound looks more like this one. I know a lot of people are really excited about this but honestly I think this Prime is ugly. Definitely some cool features here but MP10 is tough to beat. It will be interesting to see what comes out in years to come. For me, the Masterpiece of the last 10 years or so have been beautiful. Maybe not 100% G1 accurate but a beautiful and modern transformable representation. I couldn't have asked for more. Keep up the good reviews. I like your channel :)
Jersey I wish I could have just one mp Optimus and here you have the whole set right on dude when you gonna donate some mp s to those who can't afford them please
I genuinely think this is a cool representation of the beloved g1 prime *BUT* the price tag is too steep for the amount of qc issues also that backpack has got to go i thing the best bang for your buck would be the transform element prime but my major gripe with that figure and the only reason I refuse to buy it is because the chest is a painted transparent blue plastic and That is just a nightmare in my opinion
Great review...I’ve been looking at purchasing my first masterpiece and this helps a ton. BTW you sound a lot like actor Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker from Spider-Verse) which is cool.
Te-01 pushed the limits of Prime’s transformation from g1 to mp-10 and ‘pulled’ it off amazingly! Mp-44 is just too much, especially for that leg transformation. Sry to say - 👎🏾
I wouldn't pay two dollars for this figure. What helped me out was when you did the comparisons. The figure doesn't stack up to the others. Qa has to get on the fucking ball if we're gonna be pay those prices. I'm mad for ya man.Good review 👍.
So I got MP-10 and just got TE-01. When I first saw TE-01, I thought it was the best looking OP in aesthetics and design. Personally, MP-10 is still the OG of MPs, but TE-01 is much better looking of all. MS-01 just looks cheap and I don't know what to make of MP-44, that thing just looks clunky as all frag.
Thank you for a refreshingly honest take on this guy. I think he is amazing, but terribly overpriced. The knees and paint issues are enough to put me off of him and consider getting TE instead. I have the Magic Square figure and love him, but do like the more animation accurate look to TE, after looking at him some more. Either way, I don't have any space for the trailer...
Very informative review. I think the fair comparison would be between Mp44 and TE01 as they are very similar to each other in design. Mp10 is more reflective of the G1 Toy and MS01 is a hybrid of the toy and cartoon design (basically if Mp44 and Mp10 had a child). I agree from a style point of view, Mp44 is probably the better of the two between it and TE01. MP44 is more streamlined and the detail is spot on with that of the cartoon design. Sorry to hear about the knee joint. Hopefully if MP44 gets reissued Takara will have listened to all these reviews like yours and make improvements. Great honest review. Keep up the great work!
I think TE01 did the best compromise. Truck, bot and price... I always trust your reviews man.
Thanks man, that means a lot to me
TE-01 is the most accurate and best out of all of them. But I think MS-01 is my favorite.
I like how there is a bit of overdesigning on it like the thick legs and little mechanical sculpting.
TE-01 is the best it's ever gonna get. MP-44 is nice but not for that price tag. Another great review TM. 👏👏👏

@@youmongrel Agreed. Just new paint job alone would elevate it.

With the MP-44 KO finally circulating I found myself coming back to to this video finding it more relevant again. Now that all 4 figures (if you go the ko vs official) are roughly the same price I find myself comparing again. My takeaway:
MP-10: A classic. great for what it was for a long time. Still looks good, but outdated
Magic Square: Feels like a modern take on MP-10, a little bulkier/beefier with slightly less cartoon accurate look (going off grill). Sculpt is amazing, despite the slight hit to cartoon accuracy, It nails prime as prime. only personal nitpick I can think of is Axe over-hand-equip bulb is kind big and less elegant comparatively, but that's a minor nitpick.
- If your picky about toon accuracy, then I'd say its between TE and MP-44,
TE: Doesn't have goofy backpack, back/legs clean up much better, truck/cab mode cleans up much better than MP-44
MP-44 (official): Beautiful Paint Paint Paint is what sets this apart from the others (along with accessories, or voice chip if that's your thing)... tradeoff is the goofy backpack and problematic knees. The expensive price is a huge deterrent for me and many others. Which is were the KO comes in.
MP-44 (KO): Fixes knees, brings it home with a reasonable price tag, but trades off the slick paint and trailer (and possible slight tolerances depending on your figure)
Overall Verdict (trailer aside): I'd say go MP-44(or KO) only if you want peace of mind knowing it is closer to official, want a good cartoon accurate static front displayed robot mode Optimus prime in a basic stance.
Thanks for watching, I think you have a pretty good assessment here.
...TMReviews!
I truly appreciate comments like this, thanks man. I have a giveaway coming up soon (3k subs) so please enter on my Facebook page when I announce it.
Magic Square looks to be the love child between MP10 and MP44 which I personally like a lot.
Yup lol
TE-01 - The Perfect Compromises
MP-44 - $150 HasTak Tax + Bad QC - Still the best figure for me, when it's a knock-off, AKA it's true form.
27:13 ...yes! the seeker mold needs to be redone. it was tough to see that mold repainted with no fixes to speak of!
this thing is overpriced for no reason. “Fans toys” would do it way better, any other third party company would do it better. I ‘ll get TE 01 for sure. Great review, thank you.
I'm not sure fanstoys would want to bring attention to themselves by making an Optimus, but I would love that
@@TMReviews
He said before they announced their 4ft tall Fortress lol.
Yes but hastak already put out their fortmax, it's old news for them
@@TMReviews
Yeah, but they were making a pretty big deal about Unicron being "the largest transformer ever".
Yup
Is it wrong that I like mp10 more hmmm
No, it still holds up today. I asked my wife for an unbias choice and she picked mp-10 as well.
@@TMReviews ok thought something was wrong with me for a sec 🤣
Nothing wrong...MP-10 is still awesome!
@@TMReviews Wife will always go for the one you already have so you don't buy more, even unconsciously
Mp-10 is a beautiful toy
When i very 1st transformed it , it was a nightmare the instruction are useless without understanding japanese but after finally getting my head around it and doing it a couple more times its not that bad !!
Why do Takara and other 3rd party companies make complex and complicated transformations? Because they like it. Any figure like this are easy for them to mess with. For Japanese and some others had complimented the mp44 and mp44s transformation for having strong logic. When they transform it, they make it look smooth. U know what? I gotta agree.
Mp44 looks like he's going back to school!
Lol
😆😆
I just ordered te01 tonight😆 so I'll have the te and the ms. 🙄
Those are the ones I'm keeping
I did the same, seeing reviews of MP 44 convinced me to but TE-1 instead
I still love my several versions of MP10. If I was to get another MP Prime anytime soon I’d get the MS.
Separated the stomach area wrong. Is a tab on his lower back that you squeeze and pull down and then pull back the cab. And that separates.
TMReviews gives an unbiased and clear look at MP-44, and the alternate choices available. This was very informative, thank you!
Love to hear these comments, thank you
I got the Daban copy of Generation Toy's Op Ex for $53.
Thank you for giving us the review we all really wanted to see!
Wow that means a lot, thanks!
I purchased the MAGIC SQUARE MS-01X LIGHT OF FREEDOM - METALLIC COLOR and is just the best...
I hope infinity transformation will make a mp44 version as their mp36 version is just amazing
We will see
Hasui's designs for the Masterpiece line were a wonderful blend of cartoon, toy and a little unique extra to ultimately create a figure that was worthy of being called a Masterpiece while maintaining a decent price point so a collector could in theory collect them all if need be.
I still really want the MP Cordon. I don't mind frustrating transformations as long as the end results look good.
Agreed
Gotta say im glad i got the te-01. mp44 is good but outta my budget
Yup, hope you watched the final thoughts...
@@TMReviews I did and for the price it should be flawless without the issues you and from a lot of other people are having. Id love to see a painted te-01 and i think would improve on an already good figure. Agree a new starscream would be good to as that headsculpt is awesome!
Me too, I'm sticking with TE actually, returning MP-44 because Amazon is not accepting exchanges, only return and repurchase.
@@TMReviews Look forward to your reviews on bumbleebee 2.0 and hound when they release... i cant deal with that floating head i have seen in pics on hound.
I actually cancelled my preorder for bumblebee 2.0 after I reviewed mp-44, but I will be getting that hound and comparing to fanstoys
I dropped TE-01 on my nostalgia shelf and I can't see dropping another $300 on MP44, despite the nice extras.
MP-44 looks great up front, but when you look at the side and back, the backpack just ruins the look, so for these angles, TE-01 takes the win.
I like the trailer a lot. Love what they did with roller, the accessory storage tray, the ramp. The figure itself looks like a nightmare to transform and that coupled with the price just put me off.
The transformation is a nightmare, I didn't want to show it because it takes a lot of time from the video.
I think the best Optimus Prime for casual fans and people who want cheap masterpieces is MP10,best Optimus Prime for G1 accuracy is MP44 and if you want a cheap and g1 accurate Optimus Prime at the same time then the best option is TE01
thank for your review..i decided to get TE-01
Thanks for watching
MP-44 G1 Optimus Prime is okay, but he needs a version 4 remold.
Great review! I have MP-44 but I’m nervous about Transforming it because of all the issues I keep hearing. Do you have to send your MP-44 back to Amazon Japan? Just curious what the process is incase mine breaks.
Yes, if you choose to return it you have to send it via DHL to Amazon Japan, they pay the shipping
I'd love it at half the price. Even better, it's mostly the accessories I want, so if I could just get them for 50 or so, I'd be happy.
Great review comparisons!❤
Thanks man
You get more for your money with that price tag? I think it’s still too expensive, even with all the stuff it comes with, considering MP10 was 1/3 of what MP44 costs.
Watch the final thoughts...
Well done! Finally, a direct, honest review! No BS! Thank you so very much!
I appreciate that feedback, thanks!
TMReviews definitely will share your video in helping others as not everyone is able to collect all versions and able to get honest review...so far the other reviewers sound like Takara Tomy fanboys
Great review. love comparison videos!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
id´rather get 4 more TE´s than this floppy mess of a figure
Lol, I didn't even show the transformation, that is a floppy mess too.
@@TMReviews i know, i´ve seen it many times now
TE-01 OP LEADER is for me identically to the cartoon optimus . Great video !!!
I still like mp-10, he looks high quality and totally awesome to me.
Me too, I kept him. Thanks for watching
@@TMReviews Mine is still in pride of place =) so glad you like him too
36:17 comparing the accessories is the funniest because let's be honest.
Most of his accessories are one-time gags
@@aegis20xx7 Which is much horrible if you consider it that way. Paying an extra $200 for a bunch of 1 gag stuff is pretty jarring.
Many ppl feel that MP 44 is The Prime. I think its not evn close. For a company like Takara to make a Prime less then TE is just Careless. Now imagine MP 44 was TE Prime with the Paint. Now That is The Prime.
Ya, I hope TE issues a fully painted version
Yup, I feel the same way. Tried to be objective in the review but it's hard when it costs 3 times as much
I still think MP-10 is the best Optimus Prime. Nothing will ever beat that one in terms of truck/robot mode IMO, and I would know since I own one.
Keep it up.
Thanks for the feedback, I also prefer TE overall
Awesome, awesome breakdowns. Thanks for the detailed reviews!
Thanks, appreciate your feedback a lot.
Great review brotha!...you nailed everything you was sopose to. I understand why you didn't transformer him on camera, I wouldn't have done it either.
Watch my next video for transformation. It's very... complex
Mp-44 has the whole trailer on it’s back LoL
And its because of things like this that I threw my lot in with the Flame Toys Prime.
Having never owned any of these figures. Going by this excellent video, I bought the TE-01. Did I make the right choice?
That is all a matter of opinion, I love TE but I also kept ms-01, sold mp44 due to price
Agreed
The only accessories you really need is his gun axe and trailer with Roller.
So the answer is yes, they are a little floppy
I will eventually buy one MP Prime since MP01, if they make real abs like Magic Square LIGHT OF FREEDOM. Otherwise that amount money is not worth it.
MP-44 is decent to handle but with the weird wobbly bits make it less comfortable to handle
Thank You for this video.
Glad I could help
my personal opinion is te-01 gets the cartoon optimus down amazingly its extremely accurate but magic square gets iconic optimus down magic square i think was going for what we all remember optimus as rather then what he actually was which is why i think he is just a updated mp-10 both are what people think of when they think of optimus mp-44 in my opinion losses to te-01 because of the price and overly complicated transformation that makes a lot of people just say "fuck it" and never transform it more then 5 times
Thanks for watching and all the comments. I do hope these issues are fixed in the future
Great review. Good thing I didn't pay $450 for this. I agree quality should have been better.
Thanks
Love your honest review. Was going to get this at preorder yet hesitated. I feel lucky not to get him and resort to TE01 instead. Looking at it love the engineering and additional accessories and features. Its just integrity of the build made it less solid and a real bad QC dampens MP44. If he is offered at a KO with cured issues, might pick him up and that would justify the price :)
Ya the price coupled with QC issues make mp44 a pass over TE01. Thanks for watching.
No idea what some are smoking in the comments. But the mp44 looks identical to the transformers the movie version.
People saying he looks weird from different angles? Watch the film and see.
Just thought I'd mention this.
Thanks for watching
The best thing in this is the trailer....... not what you want when you want a Prime.
No the damage head was from the movie
Look on the Bright Side. There are now a flood Of TE-01 Primes out there for the taking.
Lol, I am keeping mine
If I weren't a broke college student, I'd probably go with the magic square due to its sculpt. I'm aware that it's screen accurate but the squashed midsection of mp-44 and te-01 (and mp-36 for that matter) has always driven me crazy. Also can the other 2 pull off an mp fatimus prime look? I don't think so
I like the MP-44 looks but price and quality ill go for the TE-01 for sure, nice review, now i have final decision i will buy the TE-01, thanks men..
Same here
I think the release of MP44 signifies a new era of Masterpiece for Takara.
Thanks for watching , I agree about the direction this has put the MP line
Jersey I wish I could have just one mp Optimus and here you have the whole set right on dude when you gonna donate some mp s to those who can't afford them please
I sold mp44, too expensive
Nice review as always, Brother! MP-44 is impressive in its own right. But,the price has pushed me more towards TE-01.
Thanks Stan, same here
I genuinely think this is a cool representation of the beloved g1 prime *BUT* the price tag is too steep for the amount of qc issues also that backpack has got to go i thing the best bang for your buck would be the transform element prime but my major gripe with that figure and the only reason I refuse to buy it is because the chest is a painted transparent blue plastic and That is just a nightmare in my opinion
Great review...I’ve been looking at purchasing my first masterpiece and this helps a ton. BTW you sound a lot like actor Jake Johnson (Peter B. Parker from Spider-Verse) which is cool.
Really? Ill have to rewatch that
Nah, his voice is much cooler, lol
Te-01 pushed the limits of Prime’s transformation from g1 to mp-10 and ‘pulled’ it off amazingly! Mp-44 is just too much, especially for that leg transformation. Sry to say - 👎🏾
Agree, mp44 leg is poor design
I wouldn't pay two dollars for this figure. What helped me out was when you did the comparisons. The figure doesn't stack up to the others. Qa has to get on the fucking ball if we're gonna be pay those prices. I'm mad for ya man.Good review 👍.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
It almost seems that everyone that ordered from a non retailer store have problems like they are KO versions...I have none of those issues
Amazon Prime is a retailer, what do you mean?
Not worth the $450 retail price...
Sorry about the bad QC dude.
It happens
@@TMReviews Mike at tyridium hanger wanted everyone with mp-44 problems to contact him. He may know a fix? He did mention knee ratchet failure.
I decided to return it, don't want to glue a figure or find out what breaks next.
Great review and comparison my man! I'm happy with MP-44, except for the price, should have been cheaper.
Thanks for watching
Thank you for a refreshingly honest take on this guy. I think he is amazing, but terribly overpriced. The knees and paint issues are enough to put me off of him and consider getting TE instead. I have the Magic Square figure and love him, but do like the more animation accurate look to TE, after looking at him some more. Either way, I don't have any space for the trailer...
Thanks
Watch third party now produce the ratchet part that breaks on Mp 44's knee like it was done before with Mp Rodimus Prime.
You mean KO?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah, he looks absolutely phenomenal! The definitive Prime forsure! This hands down the Best Prime. As always great video!⭐🌟
