My biggest problem with this mouse was the rubber gripping around the mouse in the back and on the side. When attempting to spudge the thing open, the rubber would just break away as if it was clay. Thank you for this video! I have a G502 where the mouse wheel wasn't free spinning very well (would come to a stop shortly after flicking it). This video helped me take it apart enough to find lint/stuff wedged in the bottom of the clear plastic housing the mouse wheel sits in. Pried one side of it apart with a small screwdriver while carefully shoving a small strip of paper towel (cut with a scissors to size) soaked with isopropyl in there to grab it and pull it out. Now that thing spins like brand new AND the mouse still works! Tip: Use this video to identify where the screw holes are in the skates under the mouse. Use an X-acto knife or similar sharp (but small) blade to poke INTO the screw holes, then carefully cut the skate material away (in a circle) running the blade at a slight angle to the screw hole. You'll get access to the screws without having to remove the entire skate or needing to replace them. The missing skate material (small circles) over each screw hole shouldn't affect glide. At least I couldn't tell a difference when I was done. Oh, DO NOT stab into the center one in-line with the cord. Heh, I made that mistake watching this at first thinking there was a screw hole. Luckily I didn't cut into the mouse cord in there.
Had the exact same issue, after 5 years it just stopped wanting to spin. I tried using canned air along the edge of the wheel to get inside but it would only last for a day lol. There was a bunch of gunk up in the clear plastic well of my mouse as well. Kind of reminds me of the gunk that got clumped up on the old ball mice.
Thanks. After tossing a glass of water over my G502 yesterday I dryed it with tissues for some hours. Later that evening I used it again and the mouse wheel was buggy. It went away, so I thought it is fine. Today one of the extra buttons was permanently pressed and then it was broken completely. I hammered it for like 100 times. Then I decided to clean it following your guide, which I finished 10 minutes ago. Before I put it back together I tested if the switch is still working and it was. With that in mind I put it back together after getting some hairs and a small feather out of it and boom it is working fine again. Great!

This mouse has pads that are kinda hard to reuse but I was able to reuse them by using a weak glue (will be easier next time). Also, unless I need impact resistance, it doesn't need all the screws, so I refrained from reattaching the screw under the tinny pad. The other pads can be just minimally opened just enough to reach the screw. That's how I did with the other pads.
They always come off sooner or later. I also wish they didn't use rubber that turns disgusting with age. If you ever had tools with rubber on the grips, it is the same stuff. There must be something longer lasting they could use!!

Well, this helped me take the mouse apart and confirm that the left click switch is actually bad, not just dirty. It seems after 5 years, either the little Omron switch or the "pad" on the left click button that contacts the switch has worn down enough to remain flaky. It seems like placing a thin layer of a durable material over either surface would solve the problem. But I worry about it wearing or producing dust that would interfere.

Thanks mate I did open and replace the left and right switch, now my mouse wheel does not scroll locked or unlocked any idea? Would it be the mouse wheel sensor?

I have a question, I have a similar mouse, and the click function has been damaged when pressing the mouse wheel, I have disassembled it and I see that the gold sensor that does that function does not click anymore, what can I do?
so the rubber on the thumb rest has split. i.e bent upwards from the base and holding on by ~4 mm near the aim button. Any advice oh now to glue this rubber part back together to put it in a usable state? The rubber on this thing is very brittle. Cheers
So this was my own fault as I was too eager to open the thing before carefully watching the video :P You can buy replacement shells for £20 but would you say a bit of carefully applied 2-part epoxy glue would do the trick?
Hey man, for cleaning the mouse wheel, could I use anything else instead of an ultrasonic cleaner? I'm guessing I can't just water and soap them , but could I use isopropyl alcohol and maybe some toothpicks/cotton swabs?
of course you can, anything to get the cleaning agent to move around in the assembly, ultrasonic cleaner is just a easy and lazy way to do the same thing.

Hey, I followed all the steps, connected the mouse to the usb port again and it seems like it's not connecting properly and I constantly hear the windows sound of unplugged usb ports. Any idea of what I did wrong? Thanks in advance
sounds like issues with the usb cable, the cable itself could be either poorly attached or have breaks in it, you can try to move the cable around in different knots to see if that causes the mouse to get usb signal, if it does you know you will need to change the cable. at 11:35 you can see me removing the usb connector, that might also be loose, so check the connection.

Oh man. My right click functionality in my G502 Hero seems to be going bad. I'll be aiming down sights in games, and it will inconsistently drop to hipfire, then come back to the sights. I was wondering if a good cleaning could fix this. But seeing how I'll probably need new skates is making me think I should just get a new mouse since cleaning probably won't guarantee restored right click function.
its likely that the microswitch is worn down and needs to be changed, pretty easy fixing job if you have a soldering iron and a solder pump and even the pump is optional, just makes it easier. See my M720 microswitch repair to see how its done.
I had the same issue as you. Using toggle zoom in game can be a temporary fix while you decide what to do. For me I removed the skates and took of the lid of the mouse, then i just brushed away any easy to reach dirt and dust. I haven't put the skates on but you can either buy new ones online or if you have a soft mouse pad then the skates aren't realy needed. I did this about 6 months ago and the issue hasn't returned

I fix the middle button (wheel button: the tiny layer opf metal that bump) I cut the orange membrane e make it pump again. I really dont understand why is the only shitty switch inside
Instead of peeling off the bottom pads, would it be better to just cut/drill holes in those pads where the holes are. Then we can just use the screwdriver through the holes. Of course, afterwards, those holes would collect dirt, but at least the pads would retain their original glue to the mouse.
that is a terrible idea, not only would it be difficult to do, the drilling would likely remove the pads anyway and you would likely damage the mouse, and considering that replacements cost like $5 its not worth it.
@@Purkkaviritys Well, I did it and it worked. I did not put the drill bit on a drill, just spun the bit by hand. Made a small hole the screwdriver goes through and undoes the screws without pulling the screws out of the holes. Bonus, the screws don't get lost because they can't fall out.
in the bottom, there is the panel that goes around the optical sensor, if you remove it there is a space for the weights, you might want to take that off and check if the weights are in, if not the weight just comes mainly from the plastic parts.
Thank you for this excellent video! I was able to disassemble and clean my original G502 from august of 2015, after the scroll wheel got gummed up. I was blown away by how much gunk had collected inside the scroll wheel area.

sometimes the pats that push the microswitch can become worn so that they no longer press the switch and there is a possibility that the microswitch itself is dying, but thats all easy to test once you have the mouse open, just attach it to a compute nad press the buttons to see if they work or if its just the dirt and grime causing issues.

It was much better when Logitech used the clickers from japan, they use the chinese ones. My G500 lasted 12 years before one of the clickers went out--my G502 hero is less than 3 years old and I'm already having right click issues... I also never cleaned my 502, the gaps were smaller and there were less issues with "gumming" than the 502. Sadly I gave it to a friend...the G500 is better than the 5.2 for my tiny hands.
The weakest feature of this mouse and many Logitech mice are the pads below, that simple pad that feels like black duct take can get loose with time, and without them, it feels rough on the mouse pad. I dont know why didn't they just make them out of plastic.
They ARE made out of plastic, but a wear-resistant one (Teflon / PTFE). If these would be made out of housing plastic, the mouse would be broken, as soon as the surface wears out.
You might want to provide time stamps on when exactly you think I'm washing any of the electronics in that video because I'm pretty sure it didn't happen.
that is an intresting comment to leave to a video about literally a user disassembling a product and then re-asessembling it, and if you mean the teflon pads, those are consumables to begin with.

I fix the same problem, is the metal membrane that make the click, sometimes it stay pressed without release, try to heat it or cut the membrane, make it "pop" and plug it in again (really hard job but it work for me)
maybe I didn't follow close enough, where should I put the small springs back into?
you can see where they go at 24:18
@@Purkkaviritys thanks a lot mate!
so, I have a g502 and disassembled it to fix an issue with the scroll wheel toggle. I put the two springs back where they were. I somehow ended up with a third spring and have no idea what it's for. Any thoughts?
if it is a spring that looks like V its probably from the scroll wheel itself
@@Purkkaviritys it looks identical to the two in the front 😅 everything is working at the moment so I'll just stick it in a drawer and hope for the best
@@kimfink5060 must've been a shipping spring 😅
@@kimfink5060 same thing happened to me... i took mine apart even further but it doesnt seem to serve any purpose
i somehow ended up with 10 screws and i only removed 9. nothing seems to be out of place in the entire mouse.
What is the metal wash bin called and where can I get one? Is it just used for plastics? Thank you in advance.
It's an ultrasonic cleaner, its commonly used for jewelry cleaning etc. it vibrates the water to get the gunk to detach. you can was pretty much anything in it with the notable exception of MEMS devices
@@Purkkaviritys Thank you for the quick response.. Also, your video has been very helpful. Short, simple & to the point. I appreciate that.
I have a question, I have a similar mouse, and the click function has been damaged when pressing the mouse wheel, I have disassembled it and I see that the gold sensor that does that function does not click anymore, what can I do?
the gold sensor is just a dome type microswitch, they can be replaced by desoldering the old one and soldering in a new one.
If you have experience with microsoldering, you can replace it. If not, buy a new mouse... and use the old one to practice microsoldering. :)
so the rubber on the thumb rest has split. i.e bent upwards from the base and holding on by ~4 mm near the aim button.
Any advice oh now to glue this rubber part back together to put it in a usable state?
The rubber on this thing is very brittle.
Cheers
So this was my own fault as I was too eager to open the thing before carefully watching the video :P
You can buy replacement shells for £20 but would you say a bit of carefully applied 2-part epoxy glue would do the trick?
it can do the trick, but I would just get a new shell.
@@Purkkaviritys thanks man
My g502 got some wine inside, the mouse still working but a bit drunk ..sometimes it doble clicks when I press one click and it feels weird is very annoying ... I was thinking to open up but it is worth it to try?
most likely its fixable, might need to change on the the microswitches to a new one.
Thanks for the tutorial friend, I had a problem with my Logitech G502 was not working well the cursor was moving like crazy. After opening it and cleaning it was solved.
My 5-year-old G502 has an ocasionally stuck wheel and I tried to open it, but the screws just won't budge. Not sure if I'm using improper tools or if something's wrong with the mouse.
Where can I buy the pads replacement? What brand do you recommend?
in my experience, the quality seems to be the same regardless of which brand you get, you should be able to find them on both amazon and aliexpress
Can someone please help me i bought my g502 3 years ago and it is giving me a problems . My left click isnt registring sometimes in a single click i have to multiple click
Are u using USB 3.0? Try 2.0, it may solve your problem.
What if i want The smooth pads?
There is visable space on side of every pad clearly made to make taking off those pads much easier, you can even use fingers, but ofcourse it is better to do with something else
I didn't get what you were saying can u explain please
@@theblackbro69 If you take a closer look, around your pad, there is small fragment that allows you to dig under your pad much easier. Unless it is really dirty.

Good video,
Sadly I failed at removing the husk, didnt want to pry it even more in fear of breaking something.
But I managed to clean the scroll wheel decently enough for it to spin smoothly again.
can i ues hair dryer to remove the glued bottom part ?
Hey, I followed all the steps, connected the mouse to the usb port again and it seems like it's not connecting properly and I constantly hear the windows sound of unplugged usb ports. Any idea of what I did wrong? Thanks in advance
sounds like issues with the usb cable, the cable itself could be either poorly attached or have breaks in it, you can try to move the cable around in different knots to see if that causes the mouse to get usb signal, if it does you know you will need to change the cable. at 11:35 you can see me removing the usb connector, that might also be loose, so check the connection.
I have a question, if you want to clean the g502 mouse buttons inside, can you take apart them?
if the buttons don't work, need to be swapped for new ones, that involves desoldering them and resoldering in a new one to replace them.
@@Purkkaviritys ok thanks
yo my programmable mouse button just fell of but it doesnt seem to break or anything it just fell of so should i glue it or what
I just cleaned my mouse, its a little nerve wrecking to pull the plastic body off the chassis, there's some creaking and snapping.
this is an excellent video, I was able to get off just putting the stickers back on but I already ordered new ones, special thank you for the info on the small springs I couldn't remember where they were before 🙃
Where did you buy the replacement feet?
you can find them in bigger computer stores like newegg, microcenter and other places like amazon, ebay and aliexpress. Mine at the time of speaking were from aliexpress.
I was having the exact same problem but on the left button, after a good cleanup it was working just fine! So you should definitely give it a try
I want to do this cause my mouse has torouble holding left mouse and it really fucks me up but this just seems to much. I would probably end up breaking it before anything

my sniper button on the side broke, im quite happy that is is just a $8 part and i dont need to solder anything. thanks for the tutorial
Can you share a link with your entire toolset please?
While not exactly the same, all of the tools I use in this video can be found in the iFixit 'Pro Tech Toolkit', the gloves I use are just normal single use nitrile gloves.
Cleaning just the top shell fixed my left button not being able to drag and copy. Thank you
I fix the middle button (wheel button: the tiny layer opf metal that bump) I cut the orange membrane e make it pump again.
@@normcfu I agree, removing pads renders them useless
Can someone please help me? My logitech G502 causes over current on my computer how can i fix it?
While taking it apart, was there any clear indication, what makes this mouse so heavy and is there something to be done about it?
in the bottom, there is the panel that goes around the optical sensor, if you remove it there is a space for the weights, you might want to take that off and check if the weights are in, if not the weight just comes mainly from the plastic parts.
I think alot of people buy the g502 for the weight
Thank you for this excellent video! I was able to disassemble and clean my original G502 from august of 2015, after the scroll wheel got gummed up. I was blown away by how much gunk had collected inside the scroll wheel area.
Dang my rmb switch was cracked. Idk how that could’ve happened. Might’ve come from an old fall and just got progressively worse.
Finally the hair that has been stuck under the sensor is finally done xD the only thing i've mostly messed up is the smallest pad (i've started by it to see how it was) and struggled a but for separating the shell but everything else was fine!
Ty I was be able to take down my mouse by looking at this guide
Great video.
I have the G502 hero but my right click is starting to get dodgy... I'd like to think it's because it's dirty but deep down i know it's because Logitech switched from the japinese to the chinese clickers.
my right click is bugging out to when ads in a game it has a spasm
If your going to clean your g502 I dont recommend re-using your original rubber skates and spending the 20 dollars for a glass pair off Amazon

I ruined 1 of 3 stickers so a partial success lol

how stupid all these unpacks, reviews and showdowns look with black gloves, as if they are demonstrating Rolexes, but in fact the video shows a bad mouse with a cost of 300 rubles and a brutal overprice

sometimes the pats that push the microswitch can become worn so that they no longer press the switch and there is a possibility that the microswitch itself is dying, but thats all easy to test once you have the mouse open, just attach it to a compute nad press the buttons to see if they work or if its just the dirt and grime causing issues.
My left click some times clicks more than once and I often can’t hold a click+drag for very long (less than a second)
Gonna take it apart and see what’s up, but I fear it’s just too old :^(
Wish me luck
you can just swap the broken microswitch with a soldering iron. because that is likely the only thing that is broken.
@@Purkkaviritys I trust you but we’ll see. I’ve blasted air in there twice now and it’s been fixed for an hour or so after each time. Just last night I smacked it hard and it hasn’t done it yet. I’m not entirely sure how but I’m convinced something got jammed in there
I give you some good advice friends, you can make a small hole in the sticker that goes underneath the mouse, so that the next time you open it to clean, it will be MUCH EASIER and you won't have to spend extra money on those stickers!

THANKS FOR THE BROKEN MOUSE
what a well designed mouse!
Sadly I gave it to a friend...the G500 is better than the 5.2 for my tiny hands.
thanks for this amazing video
The weakest feature of this mouse and many Logitech mice are the pads below, that simple pad that feels like black duct take can get loose with time, and without them, it feels rough on the mouse pad.
I dont know why didn't they just make them out of plastic.
They ARE made out of plastic, but a wear-resistant one (Teflon / PTFE). If these would be made out of housing plastic, the mouse would be broken, as soon as the surface wears out.
You forgot putting back the 2 springs...
only for the first mouse.
