The Real Reason People Buy the G502X

  • Why did Logitech make the upgrade to the G502X, not even making it under the 100 gram mark. And if lighter is better, why didn’t Logitech just remove the extra buttons from the G502X to lighten it? That’s because it defeats the purpose of this type of gaming mouse.

    For a more Gaming focused Mouse, there is the Basilisk V3 Pro. It's as responsive as the G502X and is actually a lighter, but it is missing a couple of buttons. However if you need upgradability on the gaming side, it does have a dock that enables 4000Hz polling rate. I have a video on it, check it out in the link below.

A lot of times mouse reviews are done by people who only play FPS and they're all focused on super lightweight stuff, it's nice to see someone who can use it in non-gaming applications as well as gaming, while also showing what you do with all the different buttons. yeah, 84g is nothing compared to 100+g. I decided to get one after my modified g600 decided to die. I thought about getting the Corsair Scimitar, but decided to stay with Logitech. I use at least 5 of the buttons on my G600 daily so seeing it also have 5 buttons on the side made me pretty happy. I'm worried about the locations of the buttons when my mouse finally arrives.
      The solution to my problem is either get two mice (one lightweight, one with a bunch of buttons on the side) or just go with the middle option that should do a good enough job.

    Thanks, the whole reason I wanted to buy the 502X was the solved issue of the double click (microswitch failure). I already replaced in my current g502, but it seems to start happening again, and even though I do have another spare switch, I'm not too keen in opening it up again an repeat the operation. The fact that you mentioned the new switches as being a solution for the old problem, really helped me in deciding to get the 502X.

    For me personally.. the weight of g502 is perfect. It helps keeping the mouse stable while clicking the side buttons during fps gaming sessions resulting in undisturbed aim.
    In lighter mice I faced this problem a lot where I had to hold/grab the mouse real tight in order to keep my aim stable while clicking side buttons which gets quite tiring after sometime but with g502 I just hold it with a natural grip without even trying to exert any pressure at all and it just works.
    Sliding the mouse is also very smooth and effortless thanks to its feet.
    I am gonna be honest, this mouse has made me lazy.. 😂 I just let the mouse do the aiming while I only click the buttons. It's feels so natural to me now.

    • @Enthusiast_Impressions
      @Enthusiast_Impressions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it works better, it works better. Regardless of what the weight is. Why mess with a good thing? Will admit since I've been moving between different mice, it's definitely harder for me to recommend lighter mice for anyone why isn't a competitive gamer. Too many drawbacks in exchange of weight. But glad to know that the weight is actually a feature that helps with some peoples' aim, did not see it that way.

  • @kenchong69
    @kenchong69 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have owned 2 g502s and both gave me the double-clicking issue. One of them I managed to get the switches changed and it comes back after a year.
    Read around and gathered that Optical Switches should reduce the chance of this happening again so naturally, the G502x is perfect for me.
    But after a few searches, on reddit, I found out that Logitech's own optical switches have a design flaw that would make it stop working entirely.

    • @Enthusiast_Impressions
      @Enthusiast_Impressions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kenchong69 I haven't had issues with my personal Logitech mice so far. Fingers crossed. But regardless of technology, nothing is truly perfect. Otherwise, there would be no need to improve or innovate. I've seen absolutely thrashed and grimy looking mice that have been in use for years, which still works fine. On the opposite side, I did have to return and exchange a few products because they didn't work out of the box.
      If you like the shape of the g502 but are looking for alternatives then there's the basilisk lineup from razer. I'm pretty sure they use similar tech. But this is on the top of my head. It's always worth expanding experience from a single point simply to gain different experiences.

    I’ve been using a G502 for gaming for several years now, and love being able to offload so many inputs onto my mouse hand.

    Also, heavy mice aren't that bad on a hard pad with good glide. Soft pads have become more popular over the years but I find they are usually have much more friction. I think lighter mice started to come into style because of that.

    • @Enthusiast_Impressions
      @Enthusiast_Impressions  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's probably true to an extent. I do have a G900 with ceramic feet that glides almost effortlessly on most of my cloth pads, and even faster with a speed hard pad. But from experience while it makes the mouse easier to move, it's also harder to stop, which is what the most competitive flick shooters don't want. Flick shooters which are much more prevalent, have a preference of quick start and stop to mouse movements. I don't play flick shooters a lot, probably why I don't find it much of an issue.

      Honestly don't quite get the question, but I'll interpret it as, "why not have 1 dedicated Mouse and keyboard set for each Productivity and Gaming?" In my opinion, most people would benefit more from the space savings, and the headspace of swapping from one set to another. While not worrying about if the tech they have is good enough. Worrying can make people think they need to buy better gear to be effective. But it's better to buy tech that doesn't limit you into only Gaming or only Productivity. Allowing you to stretch your skills in both directions, making people themselves better instead of only making the tech better.

      Yes I do talk fast. But it's a combination of talking relatively fast and then editing out all my breaths from the video,that make it feel faster than it actually is. Haven't been seeing any success with the slower paced videos with some breaths, but that could just be the content.

    Even with the best/lightest mice out there, I've still never liked the feel of any mouse compared to the G502 design. It's just way to heavy if you're competitive. I'd go back to it if they could somehow get it down to at least 70-75 grams.

      If you don't lift the mouse often, you can use a combination of glass skates and a speed cloth pad or a hard speed pad and after market PTFE skates, to reduce the friction, therefore the amount of effort to move the mouse. It will have different characteristics compared to an actually lighter mouse, but it brings it closer to being a competitive mouse. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it.

    gpx is a better mouse, g502x is a better keyboard

      The GproX is a mouse that leans heavily into gaming, doing worse in its ability to handle both work and gaming tasks without switching. G502X on the other hand doesn't compromise features while retaining gaming viability. A mouse/tool is dependant on what you aim/goal to achieve, and if it makes it easier to achieve said aim/goal.

    This thing went back to Bestbuy so fast lol. The scroll wheel in ratchet mode sounds loud, and feels cheep, and both ratchet mode and freespin hickup and scroll up if I was scroll down, or visa versa. POS mouse, waste of money.

      Yeah, the ratchet is louder than most mice. I haven't had issues of the scroll direction inverting personally. Good to know that it's possible. You could check if issue remains with a replacement copy of the mouse. I always do, just in case.

      @@Enthusiast_Impressions I took it back. Ended up with a Viper v3 Pro. This things amazing but 2x the price of the G502x.

    soooooo did i miss the "REAL" reason people buy this mouse? or is it just a general review about the mouse

    • @Enthusiast_Impressions
      @Enthusiast_Impressions  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's easy to miss as I spoke pretty fast. I mentioned it at the start of the Video "because it's one of the best mice for both productivity and gaming. Holding its own in fps gaming while being able to speed up tasks like editing or technical support." I then went into a general review of the mouse that helps explain the reasoning.

    to light touche feal cheep ..lack of weights is a big minus for this light crap..g700 is superior offer with max 5000 dpi after 13 years

      Does seem like a lot of people love heavy weight mice, me included. But I don't think that the G502 is too light either. Never used the G700 myself, but I wouldn't take DPI into account too much. I use 3900 DPI myself and lower sensitivity in game. I don't believe DPI or any specifications make a better mouse, it's more about what the mouse feels like to your subjective tastes and the features it offers on top of that. But damn, 13 years and still in working condition? That's got to be a record somewhere.
