So much to take in 😮😮😮 thanks again, getting no help anywhere else 🙏🏻
You have done everything I had to do on mine!
I used my Autel MD806 pro.
It has more options the same as your ista.
Like showing you history and charge status/last full charge ect
Mine was 80ah and I replaced with an 85ah but unfortunately the coding was not done as the Autel seems to only code genuine batteries as it asks for the number on top but for anyone to trace the date of manufacture.
I haven’t got IBS on mine so I wasn’t too worried and that it didn’t t give an option for 85ah. The close was the 80ah.

Hello George,I use a Autophix 5900 with BMW,Mini, and Rolls Royce settings preloaded,I timed it,about 45 seconds to register new battery, and that was going from a lead acid to a AGM
Finally a good video about how to properly code it in all main bmw softwares. Huge work mate
Thanks mate
@@GeorgeAusters I must say it wasn't as complicated as i wouldve imagined
You make some really good videos, George!
This is what it says in ISTA-D when you're on the page to register the battery:
"For a battery replacement, the standard installed battery capacity may be used as standard. When installing a battery with a higher or lower capacity or when installing an AGM battery instead of a normal lead-acid battery, the CAS must therefore be reprogrammed using ISTA/P."
I got the impression that INPA/ISTA-D is fine for registering your battery as long as it's the same Ah and type. But if you change the Ah and/or type, then you either need access to ISTA-P or you can use NCS Expert to code in those changes. The exception being that if the battery coding information is stored in the CAS module for your car, then you don't need the coding tools. The above quote seems to go against that.
Some models you can change the capacity using ISTA D but other models like the E65 you need to do it using NCExpert like in this video
Gosh, that was quite a prosedure. I replaced battery in my e90 (330 xd) with a higher amp.hr. spring 2013. Had to turn steering wheel fully right/left, and it was good to go. The old battery was AGM, the new a standard battery. It will theoretically recieve max 14.4 V, when it can accept 14.7 V. But the battery is still live and kicking. No fault codes.
Enjoy your explanations!
You’ll cause issues / shorten your battery life if you have the wrong AH coded 👍🏻
George a short video on all the software (ista etc), coding etc and hardware a BMW user should have in their tool box would be nice
Will do at some point Nick!
Agreed would love to see it
hi, got INPA with Fahrenheit metrics, how can i change those into Celsius ?
Tx
wow is very professional complicated process
Hi mate, this worked great for me. Thank you!
great video! do i have to reprogram the battery if i disconnect the negative terminal for repairs?
Nope, just simply put the negative cable back on the terminal and clamp it up. This procedure shown in the video is if your replacing the battery itself for a brand new one.
Ive had good luch with Deka batteries, put 130k miles on one in an e46, croaked after sitting at the shop for three weeks, It now has a Mercedes Benz brand battery in it😆.
Great vid man! I have a question, my current battery in my BMW 1 series is an AGM 80amp, 800CCA. I've ordered a new AGM one 85amp, 800CCA. I've also bought a OBD scanner which has a battery registration function. I wanted to know, as the new battery is 85amps, will the software still be able to register it? Or will I damage the electrics putting in a higher amp battery? Cheers!
Very useful info bro keep up the good job
Thanks bud!
Good video on that George, that is the bit I am interested in the computer side about these particular cars , they are full of modules and I look forward to when you get in to it
Cheers John!
i replaced my Battery yesterday on my 2008 Audi A6 it was a Varta 110AH and it was still the ORIGINAL 14 years old !!! i bought a 90AH instead of the 110AH but i guess its good enough. I let the engine run while switching over the battery, so i didn't had to do any "re-programming"
Isn't this really risky to do though?
@@Fromaddicttoentrepreneur why would it be ??
Thank you for the video, it's been very helpful.
Great video, well explained, especially the use of Inpa and NCS expert. Thanks!
I also have the BMW E65 and I have changed the batterie quite a few times so far myself without ever registering the battery with all that software. What's the point of doing that if it works by just removing the old and putting the new one?
Because it makes the battery last longer.. why have you replaced it multiple times?
Hello my friend, I have a BMW 7 Series, but the alternator does not charge the battery because I bought a new battery
I also replaced 5 used generators without interest. Do I need to program the new battery?
is it necessary to code if I previously had a 90AH battery but now I have a 95AH
how to know wich module you need for coding?
Hi, I got my bmw x5 battery changed recently, it was 90ah and 900 cca, and the new battery they installed for me is 92ah and 850cca, but based on the scanned after they changed, it's still showing 90ah, I wonder if that could cause problems? cause after we got our car we have many errors related to the battery from the scanner.
Hello, aren't the fault codes kind of random? I changed battery recently without back up in my X3 2011, and I got a number of fault codes, but I succeed (!?) in deleting them. One door window I had to drive up and down 1-2 times before the fault code disappeared!!! Maybe not what you expect to have to do.
But after seeing this video I think I have to check the programming. I don't quit trust the tool I used! After all.
Hi George, thanks for the great videos.
Looks like registration of the battery replacement takes longer than the actual battery replacement 🙄
Haha yes depending on which model you have👍🏻
Hello, I dont see the BMW software kit? The page is not working any options? Thank you
Hi george. I replaced my e60 bmw with a 105ah battery and followed steps with ncs expert. But after coding it shows 80ah same as before i changed it. I read somewhere i can only put 90ah max for mine as theres no 105ah setting . Next setting is 110ah Any help? Thanks
Do you know how to george?
Hi mate i was wondering if you could help me I have a 2010 530d e61 but it is an ex police vehicle, when i go through CAS on Inpa i get completely different options
Why do you not use a memory saver with 12 volts? Is it not needed? What memories does the car loose when you switch over to new battery and not use a memory saver?
Do you have an up to date link for the bmw software?
Thanks in advance.
I don't know if someone has commented that you didn't say anything about what you did with the ventilation hose, or better what should be done.
Some days ago I changed the battery in my X3 2011 to a Varta 95 Ah/850A AGM from an original battery 90 Ah/900 A AGM.
The hole for the ventilation hose seems to be blocked in the Varta battery which wasn't the case in the original one!
Is there some kind of automatic ventilation if or when the inside pressure rise?
I plugged the ventilation hose in. The plugs are only there for transport and should be removed on delivery👍🏻
Can you code in ISTA as well ? Is there a tutorial on how to code with ISTA ?
My e92 oem battery lasted for 11years. Ive just changed it in 2020 november.
The thing is in 2017 it showed sign of the battery not being able to keep heated seats, heated rear window and start and stop on and in winter it will struggle. All power was mostly reduced to being able to keep the car starting up or alarm on.
I have now a problem the auto start/stop stopd working the new battery cant seem to clear that problem. Carly cant seem find the fault of the start/stop nor can i even deactivate that function. The idrive will beep to tell me start stop is malfunctioning only when i shift into 1st gear on start up.
Hi mate, I need to change the battery on my BMW e63 and I've just bought the tools, should be similar steps with the software as in your video?
Yep!
Once you've coded the correct battery ah in NCS expert, do you need to register it again in INPA?
Yes
Question? If I put the same battery specs all across the board. Just different brand does the car still need to be coded? Understanding it has to be registered for sure. I already figured that out everytime I turn the car off I have to set the time and the car is tell me about the discharge.
Need programmed
Good video, however, on my e60 M5 I can’t get to change to 105 ah, even following you stet by step. It still read 90 ah. Any insight?
Because there is no such input for 105ah.. You need either a 90ah or 110ah battery for your car
@@GeorgeAusters interesting, but a 105ah bmw battery was in it from bmw dealer when I purchased the e60 m5 from them last year. Thanks for the insight, friend.
Great vid mate. 👌
Cheers Marc!
The vechile could not be identified successfully. Check vechicle interface and 'PAD active'.. NET-0015: HOST NOT FOUND. What's the problem?
Hi George, thanks for another great content video and putting this up so soon after our discussion on the live stream. As in the previous comment, can you advise on where to obtain the software and rough cost, and which one to use for an average jo. Simply put which is the easiest to use.
Here you go👍🏻

Hi mate,
I am switching from 90ah to 95ah, does this require coding or registration would be enough?
Both
Hi, quick question as i see an inconsistency between B-Tool app and my actual battery. App says that i have a 91 Ah battery but i actually have an 110 Ah. Is that an indication that the battery is not registered? I bought the car with that battery already installed
Correct, battery needs to be registered
Hi again George where do you get cable and software from please?
In my case I don't have battery_kappasete Instead it's klasse_batteries 90ah if I change it NCSexpert gives me error
George im not into the computer stuff, please tell me that i can just take the old battery out and put the new one in !!
That's exactly what i thought all this time as well....
You cannot👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters really, i cannot on my 2006, X5 e53 ??
I used to have a 2004, 530, e60 and i changed that without issue. Sorry but can u confirm ??
If you change the battery with registering it and you have an IBS then it will reduce the life of the battery
You can just put a battery in and leave it at that
Hi Goerge, having a issue with my car since the cold weather, wipers not stopping (had to take relay out) cluster has multiple lights on Airbag, ABS, DTC etc, wing mirrors stopped working, steering wheel buttons stopped working. Speedometer not workimg but rev metre is , fuel guage going nuts, Charged the battery overnight no change, bmw 2010 E92 coupe - Any idea what it can be, car stock and only thing i haved had changed is ABS sensor with ring (aftermarket).
You haven’t been charging directly from your battery have you?
@@GeorgeAusters No mate i watched your video and connected it from the engine bay left it to charge overnight. Also from reading forums, some folks have said its fuses but i checked them all and cant find any blown :(
Hi. If the battery model and everything is same, do I still need to register it ?
Still need to register it but no need to code a different battery size
@@GeorgeAusters thanks a lot. got it. Btw the fault I got on my iDrive is “Battery not charging”. Would you say it’s got to do more with the alternator ?
Hi George, I have a 320d 2008 is the software full version and can I run full diagnostic on the software Thank you Really Enjoying Your Vlogs.
Yes, absolutely
Do you know why ista wont communicate/recognize my car
You are best bro❤
Hi, Can I put a regular wool blanket on my bmw battery in the winter?
I would not recommend that! Any spark and bye bye BMW😅
Great video as always ! Can i code my battery to one not from the list? I have now in my car 95ah_agm battery, but CAS coded as a 90ah_agm.
You can do but always best to have a BMW size one
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks George, but what simptoms can couse not coded and not registered battery ? Mine is showing only 76% charged.
Thanks 😊🙏
Hi George, could I ask you for advice? I have an original BMW Varta dead battery that is 90 Ah 900 A CCA. Ista suggests to replace it with another 90 Ah. For my BMW E66 760 Li 2005 restyling, do you think it would be better to replace the battery with the one you show in the video (110 Ah 920 A) or with another 90 Ah 900 A CCA? Thanks for your help.
To be honest, either is fine but the 110ah is bigger of course
@@GeorgeAusters Ok, tnks George👍
Hi mate, need to change battery on my 760 li too, would you say this is the best one to go for?
I would👍🏻
My e90s battery was replaced about a year ago by previous ownner. I see on the car log was not register any previous replacement, and the battery currently registered is a 90ahm agm while the battery in the trunk is a 95ahm AGm. What would you say i have to do now?
Register as 90ahm AGM
@@GeorgeAusters you mean register it as neweven the battery is 16 mothts old?
Great video
Thanks
Is this for AGMs battery? Just correct the amperage in that notepad?
You need to change to a AGM if you're installing one
@@GeorgeAusters Where do I change that in INPA or ISTA?
Hi, George the process similar to put a new battery on bmw 1 series E87 2010 120d
Yes but the battery is on the CAS module so even easier
@@GeorgeAusters thank you so much George
Thanks very good video 15:24
Hi George, if i use Ista to register the battery and it asks for the amps, do i still need to use NCS expert ?
No, you only need to code it if ISTA won't allow you to change the AH
@@GeorgeAusters Thank you! much love George
Where did you get software from ?
The software kit link is not opening
Is there anyway to change the battery amp amount easier like on an app with a plug-in obd2?
For some models yes
@@GeorgeAusters I had an e60 545i

How do you find out which module you battery is on?
Hi george is radiator repair fluid advisable in n52 with electric water pump
No I’d just replace the radiator👍🏻
Would I have to do this if I replace the battery with the exact same battery
needs registered yeah
How to do this on e87 ?
Hello my friend, can you tell me where i can get the obd cable and Software
Have a nice day

@@GeorgeAustersthis link doesn't work anymore. Will you please send a current link for these items. Thank you!
Hello George, cen i registered battery with Carly?thanks
You can register but not code
Thanks George!
Hi mate good video where did you get your k-dcan cable and software any help would be appreciated thanks
If you have an old BMW like E39 from 2000 or so. You can just simply change the battery. No reprogramming is required. I have done it on my with no problems. I think after 2007 and new cars, you need to reprogram or you battery will not perform at its maximum.
Any BMW with an IBS needs registering. This 7 series is a 2003 and has one👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters I guess I am lucky my 2000 BMW 528I does not have it.
hi why do bmws need to register battery like a normal car dont
Because they have an IBS
🙌🏼
Anyone close to Doncaster that can register me a new battery please really desperate
Can it be coded using ISTA d?
Not for coding no. You can register and change the AH if it’s in the CAS but not if it’s in the power module
@@GeorgeAusters I guess sticking with the same Ah & CCA would be the best option then if one is not able to code?
Yes, but make sure your previous battery was coded though as mine wasn’t
why do you register the battery?
For the IBS
@@GeorgeAusters is it dependant on the model of the car? I have an f30 2012 but my OBD cant connect wirelessly
Pretty much all BMWs after 2005 and some before
👍👏
5/5
Cheers
And if you DON'T have a INPA??? use bimmertool and do the same. Inpa is not so easy to get as bimmertool.
I don’t believe you can code batteries using these devices, only register them
@@GeorgeAusters And what is the difference when you put new battery in?? Just go to right oprion and register new battery. Easy 5 min of work.
@@kat0197 In cars where the battery isn't in the CAS module, you can't change the AH. It needs to be coded on something like NCSExpert
You need bimmer code. When battery is different.
Google "NCS Dummy"!!!!!
I have it
Bad car Bmw... drive toyota, lexus,Honda no problems
tape player lol
Haha yep! Will be upgraded soon though👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters does it have cd changer above the glovebox?
Yes
Weird I can’t find PWM module in NCS Expert
Only on 7 series
@@GeorgeAusters oh ok 👍🏻 mine is e61 530i n53. I used different method using NCS Expert and NCS Dummy. New battery coded and changed from 80ah agm to 90ah agm and then successfully registered using ISTA and your method 👍🏻 thanks George
