    Old school mechanic here, cool video. Those are one of the many tricks when replacing your battery on a BMW without registering the battery. Another trick, is when you replace your AMG battery with another AMG battery. All you gotta do is install the Negative terminal first, wait 10sec. Then install the positive terminal, wait 10sec. Then start car, the car will start. Then reset time on your vehicle and everything go back to normal. Like I said that's one of the tricks to do when changing out your battery, with out registering your battery. But overall very helpful video.

      NEVER PUT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL FIRST AS IT WILL SHORT OUT COMPONENTS WHEN YOU PUT THE POSITIVE TERMINAL

      Textbook mechanics who don't know the how come and why or the ones that are afraid to do negative terminal first. If you understand the theory you can do the negative terminal first but you have to be very careful not to orc or spark or ground by accident the positive cable.

      I’m gonna replace an AMG of same model with another AMG. If I go with the negative first would it work fine ? Coz according to bmw the registration is not for the battery for alternator to control charging power to the battery

    this will get you out of a pickle but registering the battery will let the computer know how to properly charge the new battery. not doing so will just make your battery life shorter and possibly have other battery-related issues down the road

    Thanks for the vid. I put a new digital cluster in my E92, and the batter registration was deleted or something, because it started acting like it did before I registered the battery several months ago. Inpa wouldn't work with this new digital cluster, so I had to disconnect that sensor, and it seems to be working better. So thanks for the vid. Cheers!

    Idea for all from a gramma who never had battery swap issues before my =1st bmw. Bought 2006 525i from grandson with brand new 🔋. 3 years later- no start. Electrically charged it, drove 5 miles fine, shut off, won’t start and battery 1.4 to 1.7charge differential= toast. . The battery 🔋 💥
    New agm and will follow great instructions. 👍🏻
    *Have always put 1 sock on the negative then 1 on the positive cable end until you get new battery in so you don’t short out anything.*
    Will buy a unit that reads what needs to be read to recognize the new battery. Thank you again.

    That’s a great hack! Thank you for that info. Now let me give you some. There is a code reader out there called Launch Elite 2. This thing is very affordable and will allow you to code your battery your injectors and pretty much anything else to do with your BMW. You can put new plugs in and check to make sure they arefiring in spec. Just hook it up to Wi-Fi. Let it download the downloads that are available and you are set to go. There are also additional downloads that you can pay for such as for Audi. It’s $58 if you need it. You get free downloads when you hook to Wi-Fi if downloads are available. After being told we could not access BMW computers without going to the dealership this code reader is a game changer. Also, if you find anything that this code reader does not address, you can send that information to the company and they will include it in a download.

    Awesome video brother.. But look, I read where the alternator works on these (well maybe 7 series only? 02+)like an A/C clutch to keep from overcharging the system, so it cycles. Is yours charging OK and does it cycle like a 7 series? Thanks for the video.

    • @lornebruce8200
      @lornebruce8200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All those programmed controls are in the BMS. There is no clutch on the alternator. The alternator will not overcharge the battery because there is a charge regulator built into all car alternators. The BMS operates separately from this but inline as it is installed on top of the positive post of the battery on a BMW. It can work fine sometimes and be a pain in the butt the rest of the time. Many regard it as another way to sell high price batteries and additional scam reprogramming.

    • @lornebruce8200
      @lornebruce8200 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Actually that cable comes out of the BMS which is that flat box mounted over the positive post of yours battery. Normally if you disconnect it the car will function fine with a few minor resets on like the clock and so on. The directions for that is in your owners manual. I have not ever heard of any issues with bypassing a battery BMS. If anyone know of a legitimate problem please share but this is done a lot by rally racers so a bigger battery can be used for slalom racing lights. Also some high amperage sound equipment require a non BMS setup. The line about battery life being is mostly a dealer myth. I had a dealer tell us that when I first got into BMW’s and I found out through battery builders that it is not true. The BMS can also be programmed to fail the battery after a specified number hours of use and even hours of storage. Always use a (float) type charger if storing batter either in or out of the car. You have to ask yourself,.. would BMW or any other car maker and design engineer things that would deliberately fail and require dealer replacement? If the answer you come up with us (No) then keep taking your car to the dealer and paying thousands. You are welcome to do that, but for the rest of us who may just look good smell good but broke, we will keep finding our way around these stupid flaws.
      Just sayin. :) y’all have a great day.
      Update here; changed out my dead/programmed/$1100 BMW dealer replaced battery with a Costco agm. Used above post method always negative first plus full disconnect overnight unplug sensor wire. Hook up neg. Start/run for a short drive. Hook up sensor. Everything fine. Also there are mechanics out there that will do the program for 40 bucks. The simple stuff should remain simple but just wait until you see all the EV’s stranded on the roadside. Computers are not the answer to everything people.
