      I agree with you all ! I have had the luck to ride an rd 350 LC once and also a V4 once and my God what really got me about the v4 was the braking power ! Never experienced a bike that can stop so well before! I ride a 990 smt ktm now but if I had an extra 4 k I think I'd buy a v4... a little bit unpractical tho haha

    In Germany, this bike is commonly known as "The Thunfisch" or "The Werksthunfisch" (tuna or factory tuna) and is widely considered the best naked bike inside (and probably outside) the man-known universe. The name is derived from a spoof translation of the word tuono (tonno) and most people call their tuono "Thunfisch." There is a video of the "Thunfisch Ausfahrt 2018" (tuna ride 2018) online, where 70 tuonos ride through Austrian streets. I highly recommend you introduce that name to the English audience ;D

      In your neighbouring country (CZ) we call them the same way "tuňák" (read like: tooniack) - means "tunafish".. Very very very popular bike, as you say, probably the best naked!

    I went to Switzerland with a mate on his Tuono, I rode my Versys. We were worried about the fuel range, to the point he carried a syphone kit, but in the end not a problem at all, in fact he managed to get 120 miles on one occasion. The noise in the tunnels... perfection, what every engine should sound like.

    Italian exotica. Like the man said its not a motorcycle its an event.
    The sound is superb, the power brings an instant smile of surprise and pleasure, the handling flatters you, it looks like it will kill you. When bikes bring all these attributes together they become more than the sum of their parts and take on an event like experience when ridden. Great stuff.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% agreed! ...all the same attributes of my Panigale incidentally...(but without the comfort)

  • @awdeveau
    @awdeveau 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I had the 2015 1000cc version and now the 2017. The 2015 was an awesome bike but the updates in just the 2 years are night and day. People always ask about reliability with Italian bikes and I can say I've had no mechanical issues at all. On the 2015 I had one of the headlight lense fogging up for some reason but was replaced under warranty and with the 2017 I have over 11k trouble free miles on it already.
    I'll agree the fuel range isn't the best but is only because when you ride one you can't help but twist that throttle. Smiles per gallon! Also with the smiles per gallon will come rear tires, this bike can chew a rear tire in a hurry, but its balanced out because the front spends the majority of its life in the air!

      @@TheMissendenFlyer Seems the limiter was set at the low 'break in' level. Delivery is perfectly linear and is as strong at the limiter as it is at 7k. It's a train of an engine...
      If like me you are pre-programmed to V-Twin audio, its easy to shift too early on these. It just goes nuts from the point where you 'feel' you ought to click up (about 9k)

    • @bram461
      @bram461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Missing the best part of that engine by having the Rev limiter set so low. It doesn’t really get going until after 8k.

    I thought you'd like the Tuono V4 when you finally got around to riding one TMF. I love mine, its true, you can burn through the fuel tanks capacity in short order, but if you ease the pressure on the throttle, 40 plus mpg is possible. I rode mine back up to Yorkshire from your neck of the woods when I first bought it and sticking to the speed limits it averaged 44 mpg.

    • @andrewdok
      @andrewdok 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no way it's 80 miles. I've got a '17 and ripping it I still get 120 a tank, if I'm usiing it on the highway I can get up to 150miles a tank.

    • @mrkoopsy

      120 miles until low fuel light on my RF

    • @sk2283
      @sk2283 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The guy has let paranoia get the better of him, I have a 2017 RF and you get over 100 miles before the fuel light even when pushing on. The newer bikes actually have a slightly larger fuel tank than the original V4’s, the tank is bigger than a lot of other sports & naked’s
      You can get 130+ miles if you’re steady

    Always great videos. Many thanks.
    About fuel gauges:
    In this modern day and ages of technology, I'm still fascinated by comments wishing for a fuel gauge. How antiquated!
    I don't need to know how much gas I have in my tank. Really.
    What I want to know is: "How far can I ride before I run out of fuel?"
    If I had a choice between choosing a "fuel gauge" and "distance to empty" I'd choose the later as it's more useful.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love that bike. Had a chance to ride one 2 years ago. At that time I could not believe how wonderful the stock exhaust note sounded. No idea how they got away with it, but I gather that has been strangled now by new regulations. I live in Texas and part of my test ride was stuck in hot summer traffic, not stopped but slow moving. The engine overheated a bit. No warning light but it did start knocking a bit. It cleared right up once I got up to speed but that was a bit worrying.

    During my summer vacation in Quebec I wanted to ride on the country side and figured I’d rent a touring bike to test ride. Haven’t found one worthy of my tastes but, that 2018 Tuono RR was begging me to try her for 24h... The best experience I’ve ever had on a motorcycle. Do I want one? Definitely. Do I need one? I would get into so much trouble. The acceleration, the sound of the V4, the road handling, just to name a few of the many attributes this bike has. I’ ll stick with my GS and Kawasaki Concours 14.... for now.
    I knew you’d love it.

    6:34 I recently bought a brand new S1000R, and this may sound silly, but the #1 thing which veered me away from the Tuono when I was in the market for this class of bike was the lack of a fuel gauge, even on the brand new 2018 model Tuono Factory. That just seems mad when it's got that fancy TFT screen; the omission of a fuel gauge! Interesting video, cheers guys.

    What a machine. As soon as I would be able to afford it, I think I would swap my Street Triple R (same livery as yours) for this one.

    hi, we really want Aprilia to give you a tuono for a long term review, in fact they will be the most benefited from this.

    Shocker... this vid has been out since Oct 2018 and I missed it!! Great vid once again Mr. Flyer! Was the Akra baffle 'out' do you recall?? Akra seem to make it a pita to remove them from their street legal mufflers (or was the full system fitted)?. If not was the muffler 'worked on'? Lmk. Thanks again.

    An absolute monster and a stunning bike to ride , I owned the original Tuono and tried one of these a while back .
    Still have my doubts that its a little overkill for road use though …. Sometimes less is more and a bike with more
    accessible power may be more satisfying long term ? … not a criticism just my experience.

    Bit gun-shy of Aprilia, had a 1000 V4, nothing but troubles, plus expensive service and valve adjustment, but boy that 1100 is beautiful, I'll keep my SP for now😊

    Dare I ask the question Mr Flyer! The MT10SP or this one? I can see you loved it in a short space of time, but it would be brilliant if you could have one on long term. I had the sports version - RSV4, nice, but that MT10SP....ooooohhhhh mama!!!!
    Im 6ft, 180cm, & found the Aprilia very very aggressive to say the least on the lower end of the body. The Tuono still has the same lower body/leg position as the RSV4, just that comfy upper body position. I found it too aggressive of a position for a naked.
    Hence why I went the Monster R. But I'm still feeling the after effects of knocking back purchasing that MT10SP. I couldn't have
    both, as my man cave is only for two bikes, and the GS 1250 is on the horizon. I just love Ohlins set ups on bikes. Firm, but not
    harsh. Beautiful review Mr Flyer, absolutely loving this format. Cheers groover ;-)

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I must admit I think this pips the MT10SP....can't go wrong with either though...

    • @gkbbao
      @gkbbao 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After test the two, I went for MT10SP. Reason? the fuel gauge. I know it sounds silly, but if your bike need to go fuel station every 150km, it is really stressful to not know how much fuel of your bike has left. If the tuono has the gauge, I defiantly choose it. It's brilliant for riding, sexy as hell, exotic Italian, most importantly the V4 sound is just something else.

    I own a 2012 and a 2017 Tuono, amazing bikes. The 2012 gets around 85 miles before the light comes one (smaller tank) and the 2017 gets no less than 120 miles before the light. Why two, the 2012 is a 1000CC and the idea was to sell it after I got the 2017 1100CC but the two bikes are so different from each other that I decided to keep both.

    I had the Tuono V4 Tuono 2017 version. Sold it 3 months ago. A regrettable sale in every sense. It was and is a tremendous bike. A bike that performs & is at its happiest above 7,000rpm. Take it above 7,000rpm and its a totally different bike. It's a magical machine. A rocket. My only criticism was its front end was flighty but it may have been my limitation as a rider. Around town (CBD) its over-kill. You don't get to use it. Great for out of town rides. The engine is a beast. Congratulations Phil. Enjoy.

    Beautiful bike. I owned t 2001 Aprilia Mille, 35,000 trouble free miles. Love my KTM but if I could have a 2nd bike the V4 Tuono would be high on the list....On a side note, great that you have guests on your video blogs now......
