@@AlbesADV Thank you for the reply! That's no lie, Ducati is a total PITA!! Did you do the valve check on your Tuono yourself, or did you send it to a mechanic? Just curious of the "cost to own" of the Tuono V4. As a previous owner of a Ducati, it was exactly as you said, a "nightmare". Never again!
@oychoppa i haven't done a valve clearance check yet, but when the time comes, I'll do it myself. The only time I take the Tuono to a mechanic is to do the firmware updates, all the other maintenance I do myself 😀👍
Hi Albe, First ride today for me. Sun was shining only 12c, cold, but enjoyable. You forget just how fast these bikes really are. Keep it sunny side up.👍
Nice Rev, thx 😁 . Shifting from 3rd to 4th shouldnt be a problem if you are over 6000rpm generally. Sounds in the video as you are at 4-5k.... Also this is described in the manual as well i think. If you want shifting without stutter under 6k use the clutch. I dont know any stock bike without a heavy double clutch that quickahifts up well under 6000. Interesting would be a comparison from the topheavy tuono to the bottom heavy Japanese Inline4 Bikes 😊👍
I didn’t know that. Had a Dorsoduro that (even with clutch) shifted rough sometimes and super clicky perfect other times. I am also a low RPM rider by nature. But in case of Dorsoduro it was a bit of a crap shoot, or I am just crap off course.
I plan to get a left over 2018 model. Do I have to do the service? Is there a service light that comes on that only the dealer can reset? I plan to do my own .Thanks
I recommend to do at least the first service at a dealer, just because they will update the firmware and can't blame you if any defect surface later on
@@AlbesADV lol yea haha video on our channel. But i looooved it! Getting another one soon. Something that you just cant feel with any other bike. Amazing awesomeness.
Does Aprilia Literature such as repair/service manual and parts catalogue readily available on the internet? How about Diagnostics and Programming? Can this be done on your own? I asked coz we have zero Aprilia dealership in my region. It can be bought on Grey Market though, but after that; you're on your own.
You can find the service manual online, I did, and you can use Guzzidiag (free program) for the programming. There are a few venders online that have OEM Aprilia parts like af1racing.com, but I don’t know if they ship where you are.
Thanks a lot for the video and advices. I want to buy a used tuono factory. Do you know if I can put the rear seat of the tuono rr on a tuono factory. Thanks a lot
Thanks for your response. Me too I think so, I have seen a video a guy had put the rear fairing of the tuono factory on a tuono rr. That’s why I am thinking it’s possible. But I prefer I ask you.
It's been 2 years since this review, would really love to see an updated review, and maybe some words about running costs too? What's your thoughts on the "old and scary terror" of valve checking btw?
Hi, that is a good idea. When it comes to valve checking, I haven't looked into it yet but if it doesn't require crazy expensive special tools, I will most likely do it myself with the shop manual in one hand and tge internet on stand by. 😀🤞
Nice review! I own a 2016 tuono rr and i love it. My tuono doesn’t have any issues with the quickshifter tho, mine is always smooth. Maybe your chain is a bit too loose? I haven’t heard of this kind of issue, perharps the quickshifter changes from 2016 to 2017 created a new problem?
It's interesting to hear you mention a jerky quickshift. Mine is about as smooth as the BMW S1000R, best on the market IMO. The cruise control flashing is annoying enough that I only turn mine on when I'm using it. Well done brotha. P.s. if you're close to SoCal you should come to Palm Springs July 26-28 for SCMM. Hope to see ya there
Well, start from the fact that both bikes are absolute beasts, if you are looking for something laser sharp and clinical the s1000r is the bike for you, if you are looking for an animal to grab from the scruff of the neck and manhandle into submission the Tuono is the bike for you. Now it's up to you, either way, those are 2 awesome choices 😀👍
I'm able to run 120 to 125 miles on a full tank, when the low fuel light comes on I have about 10 miles to empty. One can make do with anything, but it's going to be a lot of fuel stops. 😁
@@AlbesADV My bad, I'll go take a look at those then! :D Thanks. Glad you didn't have to do any special maintenance. That's good to know. Thinking of getting a 2019 for myself.
Hi Victor, I never had a problem with the heat, it's just like most other motorcycles, I can tell you is way less than any Ducati superbikes. (Panigale)
@@AlbesADV Thanks! Thinking of getting this bike. I want a bike that that is easier to live with but I love the looks of the RSV4.Would it be possible to convert the tuono fairing to an RSV4? Sorry for asking too much questions haha :)
You can add fairings to the bottom side of the Tuono easily, the front fairings are a little more complicated because of the handlebars but nothing is impossible...
I have just bought this bike (2019 factory), i have a question, mine on cruise mode it turns to the right automatically, and i have to move my body waaay to the left to drive straight (this withouth handling the handlebar) , is that normal? Also my front brake makes a weird beeeep noise when i brake it hard... Just noticed these two things on mine, just wanna know if this is normal or not, thanks!
Hi, mine tends to lean to the right as well, I think is a combination of the weight of the giant exhaust and the slight lean that every road has. When it comes to the brakes, if you still have the OEM pads, they might be part of the recall and need to be changed, I’m going to make a video about that soon, or you have a little pebble stuck in the caliper.
@@AlbesADV Yes, they changed the pads on the first 1000km service, but they still making noise... Mine despite road lean always turns to right, it feels like the front wheel it's enforcing to turn right, weird thing. Right now i'm looking to change the exhaust withouth voiding my warranty, but they only give me the super expensive akrapovich exhaust... Thanks BTW! It's an awesome bike i love it! (except the absurd consumption on city).
TomeuRR yes, that is weird, let me know if by changing the exhaust the stops wanting to turn right. The Akra, sounds good but the one that doesn’t void the warranty is pretty big. I agree, the Tuono is a thirsty beast and one more thing, as soon as the low fuel light comes on start looking for a gas station...I might have run out of fuel before...😂
I have 3000 miles on the bike so far and no issues, I know other Aprilia owners that claim to have no problems with the bike. It seams like most of those guys lamenting issues messed around with the bike, adding mods here and there or have gotten the bike used etc etc. for me so far so good and you can bet that if I ever have a problem with it there will be a video posted about it.
@@AlbesADV I think the newer Aprilia's are quite reliable these days, but people always love to bring up previous problems. Same with KTM, even though they are said to be quite reliable these days :)
Burns a quart of oil every 1500 miles and my chain stretched out with tight spots after about 1200 miles. I have less than 5000 miles on this machine. Love the bike but I don’t really trust it much.
@@deankruse4491 went for a gen 2 1290 SuperDuke R, about a year ago. KTM is not necessarily known to be more reliable but so far, the bike itself has been almost flawless.
The Tuono feels more like a race bike even if the power is comparable. I think the deciding factor for anybody considering the 2 bikes is riding position and looks because as much as people think they can, the average rider can’t really tell the difference when it comes to performance and suspension, they are both fantastic bikes and even professionals have a hard time picking a winner.
I own a 17’ Tuono and a 16’ SDR and I love both bikes, would really hate to pick one over the either. Really depends on the type of riding you do, I would pick the tuono for highway/twisties and ktm for urban environment, not to say it cant do those either, just that the tuono feels more at home in those environments. Ktm is a more comfortable bike and easier to live with day to day imo. Ktm doesnt mind putting around town all day, tuono gets pretty damn hot if you don’t keep her constantly moving. The highest temp I got the ktm to was 190f vs 230f for the tuono riding in the city. Ktm has more comfortable ergo’s and gets better gas mileage. Tuono is a lot more confidence inspiring and really makes you want to push it. Ktm is more laid back fun hooligan type riding. Two completely different bikes and philosophies used in making each one. Both bikes are equally capable, those are just the feelings I get when I ride each one. If you’re choosing between the two, you can’t make a wrong decision either way. I would deff suggest trying to get a test ride on the ape and see which one speaks to you! Lmk if you got any other questions!
@@Anthony_K Thanks for the detailed response. I've demo'd a heap of bikes from several manufacturers, also owned a decent amount over the years, one at a time. Just curious from the perspective of Albe what he had thought, considering he's owned and reviewed the Tuono in detail. Thanks guys!
According to the Tuono owners manual: R=race, the most aggressive mode is sport with most responsive map and higher engine braking. I'm going to post a picture of the manual on all my social media.
@@AlbesADV Hi, before I commented, I double checked with my owner's manual. I wrote that with my manual in my hands. However, I do have a 2012 tuono v4.
That might be why, lol, I had to pull out the manual too when I read your comment because road made way more sense than race, but then, there it was. I posted a picture of the 2017 manual on instagram @albesadv .
@@AlbesADV so weird because the t,r,s was carried over from the Aprilia Dorsoduro and shiver (I used to have a Dorsoduro) and there, r=rain, s=sport t=track. I also don't understand why they have two modes that are so similar. If I'm it racing the bike, I hope to be on the bike track.
Ciao Fabio, up to this point I’ve never had a problem, the bike is being very reliable, when it comes to the cost of maintenance, I do the maintenance myself, the only maintenance I had the dealer do was the 600 miles service (1000km) and it was only $220
Also, how tall are you? I've been really peaking at the RSV4 because of my height (6ft 3in) but if I can fit on a Tuono without looking silly, I'd rather save the money.
Hey man great review, I really love the Tuono, and am torn between the MT 10 and this, the only thing that worries is me is the reliability... how is the reliability for you? Any problems popped up ?
I'm actually 6'2" 220lbs and the bike feels really good, sometimes I use the Tuono instead of the f800gs to commute to work (62miles each way) because it feels better on the freeway, less vibrations at speed and the cruise control. 😀👍
Engine braking and the power delivery as well according to the owners manual, this is straight off the manual "the engine map called TRACK is designed to allow for best power management under any circumstance AND low engine braking " The engine map called SPORT is the most responsive AND has a higher engine braking"...
@@AlbesADV allow me to continue: "The engine map "RACE" has an even more reduced engine brake in the medium/ high range compared to the "TRACK" mapping. Recommended for track use." Power delivery RACE = Power delivery TRACK. Different is only engine braking
@@AlbesADV Frankly speaking, I did not notice a difference, except that the Sport mode is chopping the fuelling like crazy. As Track mode is recommended for track use, I would not expect that the Sport is more responsive, as it is recommended for road use. I personally use always Track mode. BTW: You've mentioned lean angle indicator. You can see the maximum lean angle for a lap section, if you put a display in Race mode.
Try doing power wheelies on SPORT mode you will feel the power coming in sooner and more abruptly, race and track are recommended for the track because the power is smoother and peak power is at higher RPM which is where you would actually be most of the time at the race track. Yes you are right, you can see the lean angle, but you have to put the race mode on and start the lap timer, I was talking about if you are just riding around get on a twisty section of the road and you wonder how much you were leaning, unless you set up ahead of time, the bike doesn't record it.
It would be neat to see if they actually helped.... maybe a shoot out... average rider on that bike vs a pro on a similar bike without the bells and whistles
Casey R. I’m sure there’s an advantage or else they would put it on bikes...but I’m old school I like 100% control over my machines...however having said that MOST riders aren’t comfortable turning with the ass end using the throttle lol
Hi Lukasz, the Tuono is a thirsty beast, I believe I can get around 110 miles per tank, mixed driving, sub 40 gph and when the low fuel light comes on it's time to head straight for a gas station. Other than that, I LOVE IT!!!!!
Mine does not burn a drop of oil, when it comes to Tuono or Super Duke, at this level of bikes its just a matter of personal preference, they are both fantastic bikes 👍
Hi Albe. Is traction control independent from wheelie control? I mean does it wheelie the same in the different TC levels when not modifying the wheelie control?
Hi Elie, the wheelie control is independent from the TC but with the TC at level 7 or 8 when you try to wheelie the TC senses the slippage and cuts the power.
@@AlbesADV Cool! I did see it on the television back in the day and was sure he was going to crash but somehow he saved it. Good man you explained a lot to me about the bike just ordered a 2019 aprilla factory 1100 and my wheelies control will gather dust can't wait 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
LOL, unleash the beast.
It performs when its actually running I have had friends that got rid of them because of reliability issues
People keep saying that, but all the Aprilia owners I've met that didn't mess with the bike, by adding some sketchy mod, had no problems, me included, so far.
valve sometimes are to tight on those ...need to be make valve inspection after 10 000km just to see if everithing is alright in there
Valve check at every 20k not 10

Great video! How was the maintenance on this bike?
The maintenance is fairly simple, oil, filters etc, just like any other V4. Unless it’s a Ducati V4, then it’s a nightmare 🤣
I love MY18 Tuono. Race map, ecu done, Akropovic de cat etc. Great vid.

Thanks Albe's, Mine is in Black. Looking forward to getting back on her in the spring. Keep safe my friend.
Black is always a great choice, ride safe, spring is coming 👍🏼
Hi Albe, First ride today for me. Sun was shining only 12c, cold, but enjoyable. You forget just how fast these bikes really are. Keep it sunny side up.👍
The riding season is here. 👍
Great video. What about low speed ride, down town or somerhing?
Hi Corneliu, the bike is very tame at low speed, easy to ride on a stroll down town.
Wow. What an impressive machine. Great video.
Thanks Jack
I have the same bike in the same color. Nice review, thanks! I'll have to do that tail tidy on mine.
The tidy tail looks so slick, doesn't it
Thanks for this review, super helpful

Nice long term review. That engine sounds amazing, did you ever considder an aftermarket exhaust?
Yes, I'm leaning toward an Arrow exhaust, but we'll see
@@AlbesADV Yes that would look nice and probably save a bit of weight.
Yes, quite a bit of weight
Did you remap the ECU or just added the slip-on?

Thanks. Great review in my opinion.
I plan to get a left over 2018 model. Do I have to do the service? Is there a service light that comes on that only the dealer can reset? I plan to do my own .Thanks
I recommend to do at least the first service at a dealer, just because they will update the firmware and can't blame you if any defect surface later on

Such a cool bike, great review
Thank you
Haha just looking through videos and i saw that i commented 3 years ago on this bike and i just bought a 2020 RR
Lol, good choice
Thanks a lot for the video and advices. I want to buy a used tuono factory. Do you know if I can put the rear seat of the tuono rr on a tuono factory. Thanks a lot
I believe so, they have the same frame
Thanks for your response. Me too I think so, I have seen a video a guy had put the rear fairing of the tuono factory on a tuono rr. That’s why I am thinking it’s possible. But I prefer I ask you.
Yes you can!
Thanks.
So with factory there are only different suspensions and the rest are the as same an RR version.
Thanks Damios
It's interesting to hear you mention a jerky quickshift. Mine is about as smooth as the BMW S1000R, best on the market IMO.
The cruise control flashing is annoying enough that I only turn mine on when I'm using it.
Well done brotha.
P.s. if you're close to SoCal you should come to Palm Springs July 26-28 for SCMM.
Hope to see ya there
I'm in Riverside, I'll definitely try to be there. 👍
Albe's Adv sweet brotha, I'll look for ya. At Chaparral my Tuono will be in SABCrazy's tent.
I'll do the same 👍
what about the 2019 should i buy it i am 6 ft 220 lbs and 30 years ridding experience torn between that and s1000r which one you think
How's your fuel range? I know not set as a touring machine but can one make due with it on long trips?
I'm able to run 120 to 125 miles on a full tank, when the low fuel light comes on I have about 10 miles to empty. One can make do with anything, but it's going to be a lot of fuel stops. 😁
Thanks for the video! So... 2 years later? Still enjoying it? Any maintenance we should know about? do you still have it? :D
Hi, I still have it, I still love it, zero maintenance other than oil and filters change, (which are all on my channel btw 😁👍) it's a great bike
@@AlbesADV My bad, I'll go take a look at those then! :D Thanks.
Glad you didn't have to do any special maintenance. That's good to know. Thinking of getting a 2019 for myself.
No problem man 😀👍thanks for watching my videos
I forgot, I did crack my oil pan 😅, but that’s hardly the bike’s fault
@@AlbesADV how did you crack your oil pan? I want to make sure I don't do it.
Nice review. 🤙🏽
Hi Albe's Adv, is the heat coming out from the engine bearable (will it burn when riding slowly)? I am from Malaysia and it is hot and humid. Thanks
Right now i'm looking to change the exhaust withouth voiding my warranty, but they only
give me the super expensive akrapovich exhaust...
Thanks BTW! It's an awesome bike i love it! (except the absurd consumption on city).
TomeuRR yes, that is weird, let me know if by changing the exhaust the stops wanting to turn right. The Akra, sounds good but the one that doesn’t void the warranty is pretty big. I agree, the Tuono is a thirsty beast and one more thing, as soon as the low fuel light comes on start looking for a gas station...I might have run out of fuel before...😂
@@AlbesADV I have already, 20km after the night came on, and run out of gas ... i was pretty disappointed, i expect 40-50km hahahaha!
Lol me too
¿Any failure or similar issue? Something that could make me choose a Speed Triple R or a FZ1 insted of a 2011 Tuono V4 APRC? Thank you
So far the bike has been very reliable no failures or problems 😀👍
What can you say about the reliability of the bike? You hear so many people talk down on the reliability and the availability of Aprilia parts.
I agree, that is it, same problem with Ducati and Guzzi
Burns a quart of oil every 1500 miles and my chain stretched out with tight spots after about 1200 miles. I have less than 5000 miles on this machine. Love the bike but I don’t really trust it much.
@@deankruse4491 went for a gen 2 1290 SuperDuke R, about a year ago. KTM is not necessarily known to be more reliable but so far, the bike itself has been almost flawless.
Even though you don’t look down at the lean angle, doesn’t it record what your max lean to see at the end of a ride? I know BMW does this.
It does, but only if you have it connected to the app and the app is on
Is there any worries about all the engine or electronics probs from the past now ( bent rods etc )??
So far so good, no problems at all, I have about 4500 miles on mine and I ride it pretty hard.
Had you measured this against the 1290 Super Duke R at some point? I've demo'd the KTM, but not the Tuono.
Very well said
@@Anthony_K Thanks for the detailed response. I've demo'd a heap of bikes from several manufacturers, also owned a decent amount over the years, one at a time. Just curious from the perspective of Albe what he had thought, considering he's owned and reviewed the Tuono in detail. Thanks guys!
What are the service intervals in Tuono? Is Tuono using a chain or a belt in the engine?
Brake in service at 600 miles then every 6000 miles. The engine has a timing chain.
For as long as I remember:
S=Sport
T=Track
R=Road
If you been riding in R and thought it was quick and aggressive, you should try it in T...
I agree with you, let’s not forget the manual was most likely written by an Italian, 😂 😂😂
I want this guy to make audiobooks
Feel free to call Audible on my behalf 😁
hello can I ask you how did you find yourself, with reliability and maintenance costs? a thousand thanks
Ciao Fabio, up to this point I’ve never had a problem, the bike is being very reliable, when it comes to the cost of maintenance, I do the maintenance myself, the only maintenance I had the dealer do was the 600 miles service (1000km) and it was only $220

You can get one on teespring, there is a link in the description 👍
What part of California do you ride ? Ever do Angeles Crest Highway ?
Hi, Southern California, I do ride ACH...when it’s not closed or snowed in. 👍
Where did you get that t shirt from? Would be very keen in buying one myself.
Also, how tall are you? I've been really peaking at the RSV4 because of my height (6ft 3in) but if I can fit on a Tuono without looking silly, I'd rather save the money.
I'm 6'3" and I think the Tuono or fairly comfortable
Hey man great review, I really love the Tuono, and am torn between the MT 10 and this, the only thing that worries is me is the reliability... how is the reliability for you? Any problems popped up ?
I had no problems what so ever so far and the people I know with a 2016 or newer Aprilia have had no problems either.

No it does not
Great video, thank you. Kinda wish Aprilia had thrown a kitchen sink in though... :D
Random question... I’m 6’0”, 195lbs. You look like you might be roughly my size. Is the bike a tad cramped for you at all?
I'm actually 6'2" 220lbs and the bike feels really good, sometimes I use the Tuono instead of the f800gs to commute to work (62miles each way) because it feels better on the freeway, less vibrations at speed and the cruise control. 😀👍

Sport-Track-Race power delivery is the same, the different is only engine braking.
Engine braking and the power delivery as well according to the owners manual, this is straight off the manual "the engine map called TRACK is designed to allow for best power management under any circumstance AND low engine braking "
The engine map called SPORT is the most responsive AND has a higher engine braking"...
@@AlbesADV allow me to continue: "The engine map "RACE" has an even more reduced engine brake in the medium/
high range compared to the "TRACK" mapping. Recommended for track use." Power delivery RACE = Power delivery TRACK. Different is only engine braking
What about SPORT, wouldn't you agree that SPORT power delivery is different than race and track?
I had no idea these bikes had so many gadgets
So much electronics on it and I’m afraid this is just the beginning
It would be neat to see if they actually helped.... maybe a shoot out... average rider on that bike vs a pro on a similar bike without the bells and whistles
I agree
Casey R. I’m sure there’s an advantage or else they would put it on bikes...but I’m old school I like 100% control over my machines...however having said that MOST riders aren’t comfortable turning with the ass end using the throttle lol
Hi great review. Subb Can you tell more about Fuel Consuption?
Hi Lukasz, the Tuono is a thirsty beast, I believe I can get around 110 miles per tank, mixed driving, sub 40 gph and when the low fuel light comes on it's time to head straight for a gas station. Other than that, I LOVE IT!!!!!
Thank you for respond. Im still thinking about Aprilia or SDR wchich one :) What about oil consuption theres any?
Mine does not burn a drop of oil, when it comes to Tuono or Super Duke, at this level of bikes its just a matter of personal preference, they are both fantastic bikes 👍
Hi Albe. Is traction control independent from wheelie control?
I mean does it wheelie the same in the different TC levels when not modifying the wheelie control?
Hi Elie, the wheelie control is independent from the TC but with the TC at level 7 or 8 when you try to wheelie the TC senses the slippage and cuts the power.
@@AlbesADV thank you
SuperDuke won’t leak oil like the Aprilla
Maybe, so far 3000 miles not a drop of oil...

@@AlbesADV Cool! I did see it on the television back in the day and was sure he was going to crash but somehow he saved it. Only time I went to the Moto GP was in Assen in 2004 where Max ended 4th on the Honda. Those where also the days when the BMW Boxercup was opening for the Moto GP and I owned a R1100S myself. The Tuono is a fantastic bike, I have a friend that learned to ride on CBR900 so it is possible to ride a big bike even if you are not that experienced. Since there is a chance of getting hurt I can't tell you, buy or not, what I can tell you is, if you get one do NOT deactivate any of the rider aids and try to use the most restrictive setting for a while, other than that, good luck
