Dude! This is what I've been telling people forever. The SPT drives PHENOMENALLY for a CVT even in stock form. Everyone who's been talking shit about it has clearly not driven it and just assume its trash because its a CVT. I'm glad you were able to drive one and give us the thoughts that every other owner shares. Looking forward to the video you do on the SPT at your local dealership.
I know dude it was surprising. I plan on doing a full review of a 2024 SPT in the coming weeks.
I have a 21 legacy xt and it is a blast to drive and I am so glad to see you guys try the new spt in wrx!!
@@HeavyMetalWRX if you haven’t done your full review yet, when you do try out the launch mode that they’ve hidden in the GT as well. You have to fully disabled track control by holding the button, not just track track control, but fully disabled, then you hold down the break hold down the gas. It will hold rev and when you let go the break, it will launch, but it will let the CVT behave like a true CVT. It goes to peak power and holds RPMs at peak power while the car accelerates as quickly as it possibly can. I have beat stick shift VBs off the line in my GT this way.
As a daily driven grand tourer, which that GT stands for, it makes perfect sense. My neighbor had an FA WRX CVT, and he loved that car. I see a point in it, too. Besides, most buyers will buy manual anyway. It's just a nice addition.
Also, I know a person who is vastly interested in the GT because he lacks a foot to drive a manual. No need for hating GT especially when there's a TR now.
Exactly. What bothers me so much is just because someone CAN drive manual why do they have to hate the auto? It's not like it's marketed towards then. People always say things like "they SHOULDNT have a WRX with auto!". What an assholeish thing to say trying to keep someone else from having fun. Such a shame.
I've taken my WRX there a few times. Very knowledgeable and they do great work.
Oh that's awesome. They really are great peeps.
Coming from a WRX GT driver myself…. The WRX is best as a manual transmission car however this is probably the best performance CVT transmission car on the planet. GT is very underrated and under the radar because there not many in the dealerships and on the streets. *** I have test driven the TR btw already we have 2 in inventory at our local dealer and that’s the car to get without a doubt. Only reason I didn’t trade in my GT is because the deal offered by dealership for TR was not worth it.
Yea people don't realize I'm not saying why a sot over a manual. However, if you NEEDED to this is definitely one of the best, if not the best CVT, I've driven.
I have a manual but I don't hate on automatic owners. Mom always told me to be nice to woman.
Shame on you 🤣
@@HeavyMetalWRX lol 😆

😁
Great review of the GT. The driving modes and the ability to tune them in different modes is super cool.
Tbh I knew it was ok but I wasn't not expecting it to be that good. People really need to put their egos aside and test drive one.
This was my shop of choice when I was in Chicago for work. Chris and all the guys at 6* are awesome. Sold one of my cars to them before I went back to FL. I see they still have the Subaru sign I gave them on the wall. 😁
That's awesome! They do fantastic work. I'm so glad they let me come by.
I got my Premium VB with the SPT and was surprised how good it is in S#. The shifts are so crispy.
I completely agree!
I've got a CVT(2015) built...love it they have never been a bad car even then. I'm glad to see people finally giving it a chance, especially with the new platform in which my wife has in manual.
I think it's important for everyone to be able to enjoy. There's no reason to gatekeep things. Ever.
This info is sweet and so is that shop. Awesome video!
It's a great place. I'm so thankfully they let me come out and do a showcase. Try also handle VBs as well so it's important for new owners to see what options they have.
Nice video ! Nice ride ! Well done !
Thank you! I'm slowly learning how to shoot these showcase videos better.
Great video Awais. And rundown on the WRX GT 🤘🏽
Thanks! I'm slowly getting the hang of going out on location. 🤘
Love the outlook on this vid! I had a rental Nissan Kick to take on a long road drive and made me miss my SPT wrx. For a CVT it drives amazingly compared to other manufacturers. It is a great daily for someone driving 80 plus miles a day for work! Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to your 2024 review.
You should try drive a VB with a CF driveshaft
If I can ever get my hands on one!
Just saw that WRX GT at a cars and coffee recently. Super cool bolt on mods!
That's awesome! It's nice that the auto cars are getting some tuning love.
I was all set to buy a 2023 Limited w/manual last year. Found the one i want, and started to talk to the dealership. As I was scrolling their inventory the very next car was a 2022 GT (new) that was heavily discounted, and was less than $1000 more than the Limited I was looking at. I went on TH-cam and several channels I follow all said the CVT was either better than expected, or “pretty good.” So I took a chance and chose to do the weird thing, and got the GT. Haven’t regretted it for a moment. Everyone who has driven it has come away impressed, even if they don’t intend to buy one.
I gotta say that was the best party about all the VB hate online. It lead the prices to drop and people got some amazing deals.
Nice to hear. I should check out the new GT one of these days. I have a tuned 2020 VA CVT and I've been pretty happy with it as a daily driver.
Oh man you are going to be incredibly amazed when you drive the new SPT.
Awesome video man! love these just as much as the tuner talks!
Get a legit camera man/woman! This channel is on its way up 🤣✌
Man I really appreciate the kind words. Idk when I'll get a camera person. I think it's going to be me shooting and timing for a while. First I need to upgrade my camera setup.
He behaved like I would letting someone take the wheel haha
Haha hopefully he wasn't too worried! I'm pretty careful with other people's stuff 🤣
Is there any drone on the Ti exhaust on cruising speeds?
Transmission is definitely overhated. Awesome car
I completely agree.
Bro that Legend of Zelda beanie! 🤘
Awesome video bro, have to catch up with your videos 🙌
Honestly, I have had my 2017 WRX for about 3 years. No issues whatsoever. The CVTs though require more frequent fluid changes at about 30K miles at least that's what the shop by me recommends (Subaru doesn't mention it being needed but it is)
Thanks man! It's my favorite beanie but looks like spring is finally getting warm. It didn't see as much use this year haha. No worries on the catching up. Depending on when you left I had some cool things happen. Stay tuned though because I have even cool stuff happening next week. Diode dynamics is doing their open house and theyre making a rally course!
@@HeavyMetalWRX of course bro! My ass was wearing a beanie in Florida. I'm always wearing them haha. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the channel. 🤘
My fathers '21 Legacy XT with the CVT is part reason why I have a VB, albeit in manual. Doesn't feel slushy like other economy car CVT's, it is not bad at all. Like you mentioned, felt somewhat DCT-ish with the simulated gear changes, felt premium. Would recommend anyone to drive it before saying it's bad.
Also waiting for you to review a Legacy XT like you had mentioned in a prior video, it's similar to the GT without the hood scoop and comfort mode suspension 24/7. No Cobb support, but have seen a few JB4 Legacy XT's out there.
Haha yes I did say that about the legacy! I finally worked a dela with my dealership so they are gonna let me grab cars. I'm starting with the WRX TR this coming week 🤘
The Zelda beanie. That’s what am talking about!!!
Haha dude I wore it a few times last year , because it's my favorite beanie, but it turned out to become synonymous with my channel. This and my R2D2. cjacket
That guy is intense
Got a deal on a 23 base with cvt. Prerfect daily driver
I have the auto with a tomei, love the lol barks when it switches gear ratios 🥴
Yea dude it was definitely unique.
Would be interesting to know how much power the manual and auto transmissions can handle.
The consensus with the tuner community is about 390-400tq on the 6apd and 350-360tq on the CVT. That's the generally safe area ..of course there are outliers but this is where most tuners are aiming for.
The biggest mistake Subaru made was not giving the GT a manual option. Or at least optioning the features (adaptive dampening, seats, etc.)
TR?
Yea but we have the other cars and now the TR for that. I understand wanting the adjustable stuff but I feel like if you're getting a manual WRX there's a very strong possibility you're missing it to taste.
What exhaust set up is on his WRX? It sounds nice
It's actually the Cobb titanium exhaust.
I do wish they gave us control over steering feel. It is indeed an experience to drive this on a highway especially on a windy day.
Dude our steering is so light. The GT steering gets nice and heavy and I love that.
Oh man, I get TOSSED around on the highway when there’s even a little bit of wind
Awesome video. #LimitedSPT
It really was a fun car to drive. I wouldn't give my manual up but if I had to I wouldn't be upset now.
CVT, all the fun with none of the work (or a knackered clutch-leg). :D
For real, there are some days I wish I could just have a relaxing drive home from work. Especially in traffic.
If you're ever in dallas, you have my info😏
Dude I'm trying to make it to Cobb for a behind the scenes your and interview session at the end of May. They are going to out together a Subie car meet hopefully so we can all hang!
@@HeavyMetalWRX Okay bet, i’ll come out too!
What doesn’t make sense to me is he says he wants an off-road car, in the same sentence says he didn’t like the vb fenders.. if any car needed fenders it’s an off road wrx
Haha people's minds change!
Love you bro but this is long for me! I’ll skip through and watch what I can. Hard to pay attention for 45min 😅 thanks your your time fam
Haha bro no sweatm this is why I put time stamps! Sometimes the tour videos get long. 🤣
Just wondering if anyone viewing this video has ever driven both a Porsche PDK and a Subaru SPT, and how they compare?
These are two completely different transmissions. I actually drove my buddys Boxter. It's an actual dual clutch transmission. The SPT is still a CVT that is tuned slightly different than an economy CVT. There is no comparison, the PDK is better hands down.
I’ve driven a couple 991 gt3’s, not even close to comparable. Not on the same planet honestly. The SPT is great but it’s not a PDK unfortunately 😭
Thanks both for replies. Yes, I took it as given up front that the PDK would be far superior, just wanted to get an idea what the “feel” was, in comparison, considering they are both non-manual. Don’t think I will have the chance to find out for myself! :)
With only 20 percent of us who actually know how to drive a standard; why wouldn't a manufacturer concentrate on making all there cars auto? The Golf R after 24; you cannot get a stick in Canada. So they will be all auto. I wouldn't mind one of these so at least everyone in my household can drive it. It's the way things are going; can't hate on it; just learn to live with it.
Thankfully Subaru has not given up the manual. How ever I still do believe having options and the fact that you can get a WRX that makes the same whp as auto or manual is Great.
It’s not that it doesn’t drive well it just the pure laziness from Subaru not to put a dct instead of Cvt. They already have a manual just make the components for the dct shift forks should be way cheaper then developing a cvt trans
This just in. For-profit Company retuned parts they already have for new products. 😂
Why is no on talking about your turtleneck. I haven't even seen one since I wore one intentionally to match my mustache like 5 years ago
You know, when jeans timing this I thought to myself "people are really gonna laugh at this turtleneck". It's the only one I own and I love it 😂
I'd trade my 6 speed in for a 8 - 10 speed DCT or similar.
An actual dct would be amazing and better than this SPT, no doubt.
Someone pleaase check on Chris. The man does not seem ok
No your not saying that name right. Not even close lmao!!!
Got em 😂🤘🫡
@@HeavyMetalWRX 🤣🤣
Guy seems so depressed
had me till automatic
This is the mindset we need to change! Judging without experiencing it is what keeps you thinking it's bad 👀
I mean, I did when I test drove it before I got my MT Wrx 23. You even said “ it feels like I’m driving my wife’s suv “ I know that was in the lower mode but still just silly.
Keep up the videos!
@@TheLallo0000 it's true! But the fact that it can go from my wife's SUV to stiffer than my 6spd definitely is a plus! The best part was the steering was way stiffer than mine. I know you know what I'm talking about. Driving on the highway and the steering is just all loosey goosey. I wish we at least got that.
Pronounced Shom-berg.
Thank you, I knew someone would know haha
Zelda 😂
It's my favorite beanie.
The only time I see manual WRX owners saying anything negative, or even mentioning the CVT at all, is when CVT owners make those annoying “I don’t get the hate for the CVT!” posts, presumably after their buyer’s remorse kicks in lol.
Just enjoy your cars, CVT bros. Who cares what other people think.
…and buy a manual next time ffs
It's the fact that any time there is an auto in a performance car enthusiasts will actually say "this car should NEVER come with an auto, just learn manual". That's a pretty poor thing to say. Why deny your fellow human the joy of experiencing a car just because YOU wouldn't choose that drivetrain. The less people that buy a car the higher chance that car won't come back. Also idk why it's so hard to understand that some people CANT drive manual because of knee, spine, leg issues. In my community in STL we have 3 people with spine and knee issues in the mustang community and they get dogged on. It's dumb.
Those wheels are hideous.
Noooooo I love em 😭😭
@@HeavyMetalWRX colour code the flares only to throw it all out of whack with the wheels... lmao
Nobody wants a "loaded wrx" dummy's
