- No one expected Ford to make such a BANGING car, and the reason they canceled it after just 6 years was RIDICULOUS.
Welcome to the Downfall series, and today’s autopsy is on the Ford Focus ST.
The Focus ST was the brainchild of Jost Capito, who wanted a performance-oriented version of the Focus for the US. With a 2.0L turbo engine, it pumped out 250 horsepower and 272 ft-lbs of torque, making it as fast as the GTI and Civic Si with a fun driving behavior.
Even Jeremy Clarkson praised its engine, but the technology and features around the wheels didn’t impress everyone. Sales dropped from 14,000 units to just 2,000 a year. The final nail? Ford's decision to stop making cars in North America, focusing on SUVs instead.
So, while cool people loved the Focus ST, that’s why it failed and why it will never come back to the US.

My 16 ST was one of the beat cars I have ever had. 325 hp to the wheels.
What mods you got bud? That's the sort of power I want as a daily.
@@rezolute4249 OFT stage 2 tune. HKS unequal length headers, HKS cat back exhaust, can't remember the brand of cold air intake. Probably going to supercharge it in the next few months. Gotta save a few pennies for this one. Because I will upgrade the clutch at the same time and have a custom tune done.
I have an ‘18 Focus ST and I absolutely love it. I had a Fiesta ST before, but I like that I can fit more things in the Focus, it’s a more spacious interior, and it just does the job really well. It’s comfortable enough to be a daily but sporty enough to be tossed around turns and gas it a little when you wanna go a bit faster. Mine is tuned to ~330hp, and I know it’s not the fastest thing out there, but it definitely is one of the most fun. I got mine on the pricey side because I bought it some years ago, but I’m seeing now that decent ones start in the $10k-$12k, and then anything from $16k to $22k will get you a REALLY nice one. I’d say that’s a great bargain of a car. Even stock with the 252hp they’re pretty fun to drive and still take quicker corners.
I'm really tempted to pick up the fiesta st. Cute little car, supposed to be a freaking blast to drive and honestly, the size is almost identical to my OG ZX3. I know the focus name was carried on but the Fiesta really feels like the real spiritual successor to the MK1 focus.
Honestly wish they just kept the last generation, I would’ve bought one because they finally updated the interior gave it some nice color options more power and an LSD for the same price. I’m just sad America’s car culture sucks

The focus st is the platform to start out on. Aftermarket support out the wazoo, decent power potential on stock internals, amazing handling, the only downside I say is how small the turbo is and that it falls flat on its face

My wife picked up a 2016 from an older lady and her daughter. Primarily driven from Washington State to Montona state. For only 6G. I cannot explain how much of a steal she got. This car goes hard! And I want to mod it out but it's my wife's daily

Honda crz is an underrated car. Yes it may be slow and a hybrid but it handles incredibly well and its a great first car. (From the uk btw)
Still in sale here in the eu. But it sucks that here in italy, being 280 hp it's over the 250 hp limit and you have to pay the supercar tax and it's too costy 😢

I’d love a ST or RS. I’ve just got a bone stock 13 focus se manual sedan as my daily. I’ve put 120k+ miles on it with no major issues. Good car, don’t care what anyways says.
if you are looking for a fun 4 door hatchback with a futuristic interior buy a mazda3 2021 with some corcksport parts its a sleeper hatch.
Love my Focus ST, only way I'm getting rid of it is if they come out with a proper Maverick ST
I'm making 317whp/421ft/lb in my '18 ST. The problem is that you can't safely make 300whp in them with stock turbo. You will most likely land between 260-270 whp on 91 and only see 280+ if you spend more money on parts and mixing fuels vs just getting rid of the stock turbo. Ford also used a universal intercooler for all their turbo vehicles, so switching it out for an inexpencive unit you can find will get you 20+ hp and keeps your charge air temps way closer to ambient. Stock intercooler will have you using over 200° charge air. Cooler air = more power and longer engine life. My last gripe with the car are the speakers. No matter which package you get, they are not that great. My wife's 2019 Buick Encore base has better speakers... With all that said, I love my ST

Mk1: 2.0 4 cyl n/a 170hp
Mk2: 2.5 5 cyl turbo 225hp
Mk3: 2.0 4 cyl turbo 255hp
Mk4: 2.3 4 cyl turbo 280hp (still in production)
Not in America... So not so relevant to an American.
Bought my 2018 ST3 3 years ago, and I will never get rid of this car. Hot hatches are disappearing, and by the time I'm bored with this car, the market will all be EV crossovers.

3 of my friends had a focus st they all sold them one went big turbo e85 made 380 something another blew 3 engines eventually just parted out the other would track it a lot did 1:27 streets of willow with some bolt on Cobb tune 100TW tire coils and bucket seat fully gutted not to bad

I still loved everything about my fost I loved that car so much but I'm looking at used rs so yeah can't wait for that
Thw focus st is one of my dream cars, I love how it looks, how it sounds, how it drives, when I had the opportunity to drive one I definitively knew that it was majestic, sadly they were too expensive to import where I live and that was a huge impediment for me to get one and now I already have one of my dream cars and with another one I wouldn't be able to pay for them both.

Sadly the only ones I can afford are R titles... Or high miles. Probably end up with a Speed 3 though because the ST I was lined up to buy straight up disappeared from Marketplace after the guy flaked on me.

In a way i like the Focus ST and RS, but they're like kinda like the Citroen DS3R or the Renault Clio Cup, a bit too childish, so it's more like a car for like a 20 year old rather than a 30 year old, at 30 you'd be starting to be more into like a wagon or sedan or coupe with bigger engine, the saying goes "boys never lose their toys, the toys just become bigger" but at some point you pick comfort over it being just a toy.

Gr corolla is way better. 300hp 1.6l turbo 3 cylinder in a lightweight package with a 0-60 4.9sec and an intelligent 6speed manual with toyota reliability.
