MP is still a good toy though. The hips aren’t that bad, and in fact, they allow for the plenty of options to do mostly all that you want, and when you get used to it, it has even more range than Acoustic Wave. That said though, both are still equally solid and valid options for an MP-scale Soundwave. The choice is yours, and either one you go for, you won’t be disappointed.
With the interchangeable parts, I actually mixed an matched to combine toon and toy to make him look similar to the original masterpiece. I kept the toon face and window while having the toy shoulders, knees, and shins. I left out the side pieces on the legs because I didn’t know they could transform with the figure (I did ignore to instructions due to the track record in the third party world). At least I can add those to make him more like MP-02 Soundwave. I wish it had some more molded in details that FansToys is known for, but it’s a great figure nonetheless.
Loved the review. There were so many things you covered that other reviews ignored (like a detailed transformation and the fact that it tried to find the middle ground between cartoon and toy accuracy). I also had no idea that the cassettes were that bad. On parts swapping, I like the idea but I don’t think mainline will be able to do it because of child safety laws. I suspect 3rd parties can get away with it because they are not pitched towards all ages (Optus Pexus, for example had a 14+ or 16+ age group on the box).

There is a locking piece that keeps the sliding rail in place. I have this figure, and the only complaint I have is about the hollow knees, and I keep him in toon mode.
I don’t know if anyone else has said this, but there are locking tabs in the waist so his hips do not wiggle side to side, just thought I would mention that, and I didn’t realize that certain copies of frenzy were that bad, mine is really good and I actually like the transformation but I have no intention of getting many more fans toys. I only wanted this I got it I think it’s perfect for what it is I was able to get it for only $100, and for me, I think that was the perfect price to pay for it, and the extra cassettes, this was an amazing review, and love the figure, I keep mine with the toy shoulders, knees, and knee caps, with everything else toon, and just wanted to say you did amazing job and let you know about those locking tabs inside the waist before you fold the skirting armor from the back
The thing I love about this guy is you can mix and match Toon and Toy accuracy like the old MP's. Like I love the Toon head and legs... but really want the Toy knees and shoulders.
If you ever get the urge, give their Breakdown a shot. Transformation is pretty easy and fun, articulation is better than expected (double joint elbows and knees as well as an ab crunch), feels great in both modes, looks fantastic from all angles in both modes, countach mode has the doors, hood, and pop up headlights like MP sunstreaker, and (my favorite part) it somehow *mass shifts* from a car barely bigger than MP sunstreaker to a robot almost as big as prime. It’s an all around good time imo, if you don’t mind the aesthetic that is.
I've heard a lot of cases where people have done that. I think most of the people I interact with are doing that. Not sure about people outside my space though

A very handsome figure. I think even his Toon mode looks pretty good. Also one of the few fans-toys figures and can say that seems to have a worthy price. i'm not sure if i'll ever get him, i'm distancing from MP and the closet I ever got to FT was Thomas, but this guy looks swell.

one nice things about he cassettes is they technically have a cartoon accurate alt modes as well as toy accurate if you flip them over to the side without the cassette the details are almost 1-1 with the show models (laserbeak is a bit off due to the grey wings tho) which i think was a nice touch for people like me who don't want my mp figures to look like 40 year old toys and would rather have them look as much like the cartoon as possible unless the cartoon models are stupid like warpath (why the fuck does a tank turn into a skinny robot) but yeah this figure is worth the half a grand i paid (fuck you aussie taxes) and sidenote dx9 gewalt doesn't just focus on the robot it also focused on a pretty accurate mig 25 jet mode
MP13's hip system was never on point...wonky ass bullshit. 😆😆😆😆😆 Dunno whodafuq at Takara possibly thought that was great design decision, because it absosmurfinlutely wasn't. Despite that, it's a pretty cool mold, albeit extremely dated at this point. (I'd still get like the Toy House Factory KO to replace my Hasbro Year of the Goat Soundwave and his Minions) Meanwhile, that FansToys one loses me on the price, as per usual, AND the overpriced shitty Tape Minions, too. And still no Ratbat, Wingthing, Enemy, etc.? Guessing that they're gonna pull a Takara in repainting this into Soundblaster to include Ratbat, and have Wingthing, Enemy, and maybe Slugfest & Overkill (or even Buzzsaw, if they haven't done him yet) as a separate set.

I really want to continue the core class stuff, but with timing and such it's proving difficult. As for legacy prime, I'm not sure. I do have a legacy review planned soon, but it's not prime. Don't have him yet, and my inspiration to write about figures is elsewhere at present
You know, I am legitimately surprised at how fun that Transformation looks. While I'm not a fan of the sacrifices in cassette player mode at that price, I have to admit it is one of the only times you've said "this complex transformation is quite fun" and I've believed you lol. Another thing abt this figure I like is that I don't think it necessarily outshines MP-13. I think the two can live in tandem, with one succeeding in areas the other fails. This in contrast to, say, Crimson Wings and MP-52 in which (in my opinion) Crimson Wings just does everything MP-52 does but better
I personally think where mp13 succeeds, it's by a small margin, but where acoustic wave wins it's by a kilometre. I'd say it's a knock out of the park, at least for me

It’s a good thing that a ko company decided to take the original mold of this figure include ravage and laser beak and only charge 80$-150$. 28:59 also don’t know what image your using since if you look up soundwave G1 you will find that soundwave has those white parts on his legs
Something I think alot of people take for granted is that true cartoon accuracy would mean that the cassetticons wouldn't look like real micro cassettes they were more of an approximation and with that considered lazerbeak and ravage aren't as bad from an accuracy standpoint.

While I agree that this figure has some improvement, articulation and style than MP, I feel nothing for this figure. Maybe because even if the MP has the weird hips, the Masterpiece one still has charm and has the simple but enjoyable transformation. Plus I have the 4th Party KO: Toy House Factory Sonic Wave, which is a good and cheaper option since the official is hard to come by. Either way, great video nontheless.
It's a good thing MMC made proper scaled Cassetes, so i can just box the FT ones and display the MMC ones. Anyway, MAN I cannot wait to get my grubby hands on this figure

I just think they should focus less on stopping bootlegs and more on improving their craft. Iron factory has knockoffs made from their figures all the time, and they still do well to this day.
While I respect your opinion about fans toys I personally don't like them for a few reasons 1. Like you said in the video, their business practices are by far the worst in all of 3rd party transformers. They think they're all high and mighty so they jack up their prices, make less amounts of a figure and it's just the worst. 2. Their transformations and the feel of their figures are often bad or just meh. A lot of their transformations are needlessly complicated and the plastics they use always make this terrible squiking sound. 3. Their figures most of the time feel lifeless, like their figures look really close to the sunbo models but they don't feel like the characters. There is more I could say but this comment is already too long. Edit: A lot of their figures also have subpar articulation compared to other 3rd party figures.
Those last two were actually things I covered throughout the video, and why acoustic wave is different from the normal releases. I totally get your opinion on the regular stuff. Their huffer especially...hoo boy that looks bad

Sucks that the game never got much traction. Regrettably released around the BLM movement, and people didn't feel right to play a game about police officers, even if the game did cover corruption pretty heavily

This is the only piece I am interested in when it comes to fans toys. Same thing for X transbots, I am only interested in their punch/counterpunch. If they were to miraculously start making rid figures instead of G1, then it would be a different story.
Iron factory didn't do a super Megatron. They only did an IDW one. Also those two reviews are too new to be worth doing a second opinion. The main reason I do that subseries is to replace the old rubbish videos
Nah it's a valid complaint. When you're spending $300+ on a figure, you don't want the paint to flake off from simple gentle use. If you drop it on the floor, fine: that's on you. If it's sitting on a shelf and the paint starts peeling, that's an issue
We need a masterpiece Optimus Prime that has the G1 toy look, skinny legs , the stickers of the arms , the deep yellow eyes, the big hands all of if, c'mon is the original design it deserves more love

I think you might not be old enough to truly appreciate the g1 cartoon esthetic. Not all characters need to look dynamic and heroic. I love guys like Huffer, trailbreaker and cosmos just the way sunbow depicted them.
I did grow up with the g1 cartoon. They had it on the internet back when I was a kid. Several of my friends also grew up in the 80s while it was first airing, and while some love toon accuracy, others want the toy style. I think it's less age and more preference

I feel this takes the same form of FT’s Grimlock, in no way 100% accurate kinda toy kinda sunbo and very very stylized

@@DrLockdown I do love the fact that Jaguar is actually a full size cassette...because that actually makes it accurate to the "G1" alt mode Ravage had in Beast Wars, where the animators didn't realize he was a Microcassette (and given how often Soundwave's alt mode was inflated to be boombox size, I can understand why).

This is the only piece I am interested in when it comes to fans toys. Same thing for X transbots, I am only interested in their punch/counterpunch. If they were to miraculously start making rid figures instead of G1, then it would be a different story.
Sadly no one seems to want to, save for the easy scourge repaint whenever someone does a G2 Laser Prime

Iron factory didn't do a super Megatron. They only did an IDW one.
Also those two reviews are too new to be worth doing a second opinion. The main reason I do that subseries is to replace the old rubbish videos

Nah it's a valid complaint. When you're spending $300+ on a figure, you don't want the paint to flake off from simple gentle use. If you drop it on the floor, fine: that's on you. If it's sitting on a shelf and the paint starts peeling, that's an issue

I think you might not be old enough to truly appreciate the g1 cartoon esthetic.
Not all characters need to look dynamic and heroic.
I love guys like Huffer, trailbreaker and cosmos just the way sunbow depicted them.
I did grow up with the g1 cartoon. They had it on the internet back when I was a kid.
Several of my friends also grew up in the 80s while it was first airing, and while some love toon accuracy, others want the toy style.
I think it's less age and more preference

Not all people who watched the show as a kid (and grew up in the eighties) are obsessed with toon accuracy.
Choice is good for the consumer. More figures should adopt swappable parts.
