Goes to show how good MP-13 was that it took almost 8 years for anything to come along to challange it
this has been in works for a long time, Fansto-- er "Robot Paradise" just takes a long time to release anything.
i love fans toys, they are a huge part if my collection. i cant justify their prices any more. i know if you dont have an mp Soundwave this a great figure to get. but i wont be replacing my mp figure...but, thank you for another great review :)

You will love it
The FIBRIR tape surprised me with how much I actually like them. I was so-so and thought I'd just keep the MMC ones on display, and still might, but I love the way they look and that they're smaller in scale so they don't have to appear almost insecticon sized in the collection. The paint on it is immaculate though, I love the metallic red on it. Can't wait to see how the rest of the cassettes turn out.
The Acoustic Wave is a work of art. The proportions and shape of the figure is more streamlined and improved from MP-13. The head is bigger and shape looks more accurate overall, and the hands are probably the best I've seen, it's always a plus to have fully articulated fingers. I really like the way the tape deck looks on this. The gold border is eye catching and the size of the window to the head is more in line with how it looks in references and the show. I always though MP-13's chest window was too big but I think that's because it looks that way due to the size of the head in comparison to it.
Man, this thing is glorious! This is the best Masterpiece-scale G1 Transformer out there. I don’t know how it can ever be topped because it’s THAT close to perfection.

this matter of such high prices disappoints me a lot, smacks of speculation and is a clear sign of taking advantage of the passion of collectors. In fact, pre-orders run out immediately. I cannot afford to pay 250 € / $ for a figure even though I know it is of excellent quality without any doubt. Motomaster, to give an example from $ 170 has reached 270. .. this is my regret. I am happy for those who can afford it. Thanks for the review.

As much as I love mp-13, this is a definitive improvement.
Unfortunately I ended up canceling on this guy. Just don’t see the $250. Especially since he looks more like a mild update to MP-13 than a drastic one.

So nice. Can't wait to get my hands on mine. Wasn't completely blown away by the cassettes...they seem kinda hollow from what I've seen here and on the renders. Not too worried cause I think Soundwave is gonna look awesome with the MMC tapes!

I’m impressed.
He looks damn good, but I'm not entirely certain it's one of those "ZOMG IMMEDIATELY SWITCH OUT THE OFFICIAL FOR IT!!!" figures they've done in the past... Their Hot Rod was one of those figures where, even with its flaws, was pretty drastically better than the HasTak Hot Rodimus offering they'd given us previously.
And the little switches and potentiometer wheel on the side of the alt mode are actually a throwback to the original toy that has them as well.

Just putting the word out: for any 2023 runs of Acoustic Wave, his hip connection point may be assembled backwards. I couldn’t get the buttons part of the alt mode to sit flat no matter what. After watching and re-watching multiple review videos (including this one) I realized the piece with two screws that hold his legs together was actually backwards on my 2023 copy. So I took it part, flipped it 180°, and now the buttons panel sits flush in alt mode. It’s a bit of a pain to fix, but I am so much more relieved that it was fixable and now he looks perfect. So I’m just spreading the word.

Wow, that is by far the best MP transformer ever created, no contest. People saying they can’t justify replacing the Takara, I’m usually like whatever, but are you out of your mind? I missed the preorder and will never own this or any MP figure again(unless they make Bumblebee look as good as he does now, without the awful feet/backpack, or Sideswipe2.0) but this is the best TF I’ve ever seen.
I watched Deluxes review earlier today, he looks fantastic. I think the thickness of the paint and and resulting stiff tight joints and squeak could be because it’s the first release from a new factory as we haven’t had this issue to this extent for a while from FT. Looking forward to receiving my copy from Terry, but I’m in the U.K. so I’m not expecting to receive it until closer to the end of the month….the anticipation haha.
Think I’m going to go with a mixture of toy / toon look, I’m not keen on the toy head or red knees but I like the other pieces.
I was thinking of doing the same thing, mix of toy and toon

MMC cassettes FTW!!! I love this RP-01, but I have the Takara MP-13 and MMC Rumble and Ravage. No advantages to trading in for Acoustic Wave- not that I can see. This does look great though.

I'm waiting for a manufacturer to make a functional soundwave, a bluetooth speaker where the shoulder cannon is where the lithium battery is and the cassette is a USB flash disk storage for music. That'll looks awesome!

What was the piece he said you couldn't transform it with it on there because it gets in the way at like 24ish minutes in? I don't remember him talking about it at all except when he said that.
You cant transform it with the outer toy leg pieces attached, I accidentally cut the footage of me installing those outer panels so you never saw it. Check my versus video to see it more directly

Great review! I was agonizing over this so I missed the ShowZ preorder and couldn't find it anywhere except TFSource and it was much more expensive. I don't have an authentic MP13, just a KO so I hope I don't regret spending the dough. Thanks!

From what I'm seeing, it's going to be great, so I think you'll be alright. Most people will have some form of MP-13, there've been so many made in the last 8 years. It's going to be a fun figure to mess with and pose and have in the collection.
Did you forget to flip the white panels back in when in bot mode? The white panels on the legs inner sides of both knees
Does it come with a Decepticon sticker for the chest?
No. All fans toys come without a sticker
For fans of the Toon look, does the Non-tapered shape of the lower legs on RP-01 not bother you? They are still pretty blocky as seen on MP-13. On a Soundwave 2.0 from Takara, Id expect to see that tapered leg shape you see on recent toon accurant MP's e.g MP44, MP-39, MP-52, MP36 etc. Also the lower legs are not particularly smooth on the sides, which is another thing id like to seen on a properly toon accurate figure. I think this RP is nice, and would consider a purchase, but its more like a V 1.5 and not as soon accurate as people like to think.
Adding the side panels for the legs gives you the tapered look

How tall are they
I ordered mine two days ago at toy dojo I got lucky there was one left after I purchased it said after out of stock. Thinking that I was going to get mine shipped out by the end of this week but I emailed them and told me that they won’t have the second batch till 2 weeks from now but someone told me that Eddie mentioned the other day that they will have more this week so I’m a bit confused… 🤔 oh well.. I guess I have to wait.
Toydojo only got a small batch, more coming next week, shipping occurs in order they were received

What kind of upgrade were you expecting? Honest questions. Most of the articulation is there or improved, it retains a lot of what makes MP-13 great but improves on the proportions and aesthetics. If not that, then what?

Another excellent reviews TM. This does have a place in any collection and is an amazing alternative to MP-13. Some of the color choices are ehh...as we've seen our friends painting the gold to a more yellow and the white.
I can not wait to have mine in hand and display both in my collection.

What's wrong with the white? I kind of like it and the ones I've seen repainted on the MP-13 look like this too. The gold is different, though. Yellow is more toon accurate, but the gold just looks premium lol. That's just my personal preference on it, I like it more than I thought I would but only because I love the improved tape deck chest as a whole.
This is infinitely better than mp-13 and fans toys deserve to up there prices they know their worth, yall tripping bout 250 for a premium toy but bought mp-52 that can’t even stand. Plus all the after marked scalping , fans toys deserve getting their money. I am sticking with my MMC tapes but those look great too!
Is the blue for sure painted? There seems to be some confusion if it is painted or just colored plastic?

What are you asking exactly? Is it the same? It’s the same character. I assume you’re referring to MP13 when say the “original”, but I could be wrong. MP13 was sold 11-12 years ago, and was designed/put out by Takara. The articulation on this version by Fanstoys/Robot Paradise is way more articulate, and overall built way better than MP13. Is it better overall? Most definitely. It is made by the best 3P company making products today. This version is brand new and benefits from modern engineering. Fanstoys is also known for using a fair amount of die cast, which any true G1 fan that grew up playing with the toys will tell you is the best. If you never watched transformers in 85 while playing with the toys as you watched, you will never get how this figure, and other Fanstoys figures are so awesome.

@@williammckeever9043 do you own any other Fanstoys figures? If you do, then you will know that Fanstoys is a premium made figure and is multiple times better than takara. Also, Fanstoys are made to be displayed, and not necessarily transformed all the time.
Yes about 20 or so and I understand the construction quality but for the same articulation or minuscule improvements I don’t know if I should spend three hundred dollars I mean when I purchased all of the dinobot none of them individually were as pricey but when I purchased Astro train he was besides looking really nice he was just ok I love fans toys but I am starting to look into figures I can pose for photos and stop motion so I guess I am asking is the articulation significantly better than mp13 or just no because besides the new hands and slight ab crunch and I do mean slight nothing seems better and I have had mp13 for a long time and handled it a lot and had no issues so I know it’s quality is pretty good

my only concern is if the paint is metallic enough!!! i wish he were a brighter, more striking blue. oh & whens FT Ratbat?
Ya the blue paint is a bit dull, but overall I like it. I am sure they will make more tapes now
It's brighter than the MP-13 from what I can see in other videos and photos. I think when there's a lot of light the paint will come though. It's got what looks like the usual paint finish of FT stuff. MP-13 was cast in that blue plastic and glossy but always appeared too dark. I always had a hard time noticing the different paint scheme between him and Soundblaster because the blue was so dark.
It’s interesting to see people commenting what amounts to a coping mechanism, where they claim Takara version is better, and this isn’t worth the upgrade. I understand the mentality that comes with denial, so I’m not bashing anyone coping with fomo or what ever else. That being said this is undoubtedly the new MP soundwave on the block, and Takara version is completely irrelevant, and that’s ok.

I would disagree with the TT being irrelevant...that's just pretentious. There is a place for both in a person's collection and an appreciation for such a long standing piece. Now this new one does have a lot of the "bells and whistles" that for those fine people who prefer it but it also lacks some of those detail aesthetics that brought people into the collection. MP-13 was my first MP figure I purchased when I got back into collecting, so YES it does hold a place in my memory and will still be proudly displayed..Same as TMreview's affection to MP-10 because of the history it has for him. So you can say it's coping...or you can say it's appreciation...and I'll say that touting how irrelevant something is to you and projecting it to others...well that's just a little bit of insecurity.
Finally...whether someone has one or the other...they win! if they get both..Bonus!

@@MWRogers the irrelevancy comes into play when you put the two figures side by side. They both are trying to fit into the same spot in your collection, subjectivity aside, it’s safe to say most people would choose RP in a comparison. That means most people are going to REPLACE Mp-13. Making it irrelevant to someone’s collection. Of course you can add sentimental value to a toy, but don’t expect that to be the zeitgeist.
I agree. This whole thing is intriguing, but I understand why. From the start MP-13 has always been one of if not the best MP figure as a whole, so it set the bar very high. The aesthetics were off and we're definitely seeing that now compared to Acoustic Wave. Though, things like a fun and simple transformation, shelf presence, and nice detail and articulation and affordability make it hard to replace.
But Acoustic Wave improves on the looks of the robot (and retains the great look of the alt mode) and there's no denying it. The colors are more accurate, the proportions more accurate, and they give us options with extra parts to make a G1 toy look too. Maybe the coping is also due to the hard to obtain availability of this?
@@Scro10m Again, I disagree with that assessment. Yes there are going to be subjective views when placed side by side..and that will come through in TM's vs video. That being said, there are some aspects of the RP that are not "improvements" when compared to the MP-13. And I'm not saying that collectors who do get this figure won't swap..but there are collectors, like myself, that will have both and display both..they don't need to be on the same shelf or fight for it. So assumption aside..there are those who do hold favor to sentiment and may have that as the KEY to keeping one or both in their collections. Assumptions are like...well one can finish the phrase.

Figure looks amazing, particularly happy that you confirmed the white parts are actually more of a grey, as that's show accurate and what I was hoping for.
Only minor disappointment is the height, as it's too tall in comparison to MP-29. I can live with it on account of everything else being so good, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish it was half a head shorter than MP-13.

@@MWRogers Toon accuracy is the goal for a lot of collectors right now. The value held by MP-13 is mostly sentimental, and some of it has to do with the fact you can find a KO it virtually anywhere 😕😕😕

And I would disagree with your assessment of the goal of "a lot" I believe the TOON aspect has been pushed upon the collectors...some from feedback, some from competition with other brands..that being the case..there are collectors that will have both versions in their inventory...so again..you keep pushing the sentimental line out of simplicity and ignoring, maybe to cope, that others aren't so quick to jump to the new shiny...and value the aspect of both versions.

Looks great, but not worth the hassle or money to upgrade.
The hassle part I can agree with. It was by stroke of luck that some people got the preorders in for this, and for such an important character. But an upgrade is an upgrade imo, and sooner or later most people will eventually upgrade. I know that this one isn't perfection...but for sure it is an upgrade. And I love MP-13.

I dont think its fair to compare takara masterpiece soundwave which was made 2011-2012 to the new ft version video the engineering alone is much different. But its A great review as always. I cant wait to get mine with all the cassettes.

Hm interesting point Ron. But both pieces are aimed at the same spot on a collectors shelf, and certainly present somewhat similarly visually. Its the comparison everyone's looking to see if they want to pick up an interpretation of a character they likely already own, so it's safe to say we will be seeing this comparison a lot. I think it's also a testamont to the sucess of MP13, so there is something to be said for that.
I know where you are coming from Ron, but I believe it is a fair Comparison. To show how good MP13 really was/is eventhough RP will win.
@@bradbattley1509 MP-13 will always hold that title of best MP, and one of the OGs. Looks like most collectors will stick with him, but there's too much slander on the RP. It's a definite improvement in a lot of ways, so if you can swap out MP-13 for it, then why not?
I like to think of MP-13 as the childhood friend and you have to go to a different school in a different city. You make new friends, etc. But MP-13 will always be there when the other friends move on and lose touch after high school. You move back to the hometown and he's still there, just as awesome as it was all those years ago, and you pick up where you left off as if nothing has changes haha.

I like FTs stuff, but this seems way to OverEngineered to get a Simple Boom Box. Honestly if FTs would just Take MP 13 and KO it with die-cast, Paint, and hardware I would like it a lot more. For something that came out 10 years later is not that much better.
If you’re suggesting that a company like Fanstoys “KO” a takara mold, you are no fan of Fanstoys. Fanstoys is a “boutique” toy manufacturer that caters to G1 fans that have a refined taste in what we expect in a collectible. Most Fanstoys collectors do not spend a lot of time transforming the figures. The engineering is what it is because of the adherence to the cartoon aesthetic. It’s not engineered to be fun. You can by a CHUG at Walmart for that. Oh, also, this thing destroys MP13. That too is what it is.
You must be a FTs Fan boy, and you don't need to tell me what FTs is, I own about Every FTs item they have put out, from MP01 trailer, Gray QuackeBlast, to the rare Telsa and current Combibers so I know. As a G1 and MP Collector myself I have my own tastes just as everyone else. It also doesn't mean I don't understand the Content, and I do not have to like everything FTs produce. I'm just expressing my thoughts on this new Soundwave, and like I said given that FTs had 10 years to develop this after Takara, it's not that Great of an improvement. I was Not directing my Comments to anyone or any company in any way,, shape, or form. I was just giving my Opinion of the item reviewd, if you like the item you win...as for me I will pass on this just as I did on FTs 1st attempt at Sea Spray.

You could try modding your mp13 if thats what you're looking for. I don't know why you would suggest a 3P company get into KOs, sounds like consumer confusion to me. If you're interested: 3P companies are passionate enough to design and produce their own pieces. KO companies are essentially plagerising other companies' designs, creating consumer confusion, and damaging the repuatation, sales, and profitability of other companies so that they can steal their sales with much less investment. MP designs do not come cheap and have many stages to reach production. I would personally argue that those who choose to support KOs and understand what KOs are doing to the industry are ultimately aiding to sabotage affordable and qualiy collectables in the years to come more so than what has already been done. Food for thought. This RP01 for example is encouraging me to buy MP52. Whereas the MP52 KO that also just came out is not encouraging anyone to buy the official.
Here we go again...Folks Really. Did I suggest the FTs should KO MP 13...I don't see anywhere that says I Suggest this to or from FTs. I was merely stating my opinion that if FTs did a KO of MP 13 with the FTs (touch) I will like it. I'm glad you like MP52, It's a piece I would Never buy, just like MP29. We all have our own tastes and What each Item/Character means to us. Sadly there's many Collectors that don't understand the meaning of a Collector.
