It's something special when a figure gets the well deserved recognition. I don't think I seen anyone sing as much praises before as with Cyclonus and that's saying something. Still hoping to find this guy! I ended up watching this after knowing of the rerelease with the toy accurate deco for Generations Selects and man the darker purple there looks nice for sure but I do have a preference for the lighter purple from Kingdom weirdly enough. Absolutely fantastic review, mate!

Looking back, this figure really was a sign of how GOOD mainline figures were going to get. After this and Kingdom, we got Legacy, then Evolution, then United and there have been so many amazing figures all throughout

Shame I've apparently lost my chance to get the upgrade kit for at least the arms, though, but I still find its transformation more fun, has a better car carrier mode, and based on a 3rd party upgrade to make the cab a separate robot, shows that it didn't need the partsforming armor to have an accurate G1 Ultra Magnus
I can't wait to see what else they do with this mold. I know there is a rumored selects one. which I hope is different color wise unlike scourge and the sweeps for the 86 line. Maybe just in Grey and a dark purple to be his armada , but were have to see. I really hope we get a shattered glass color of this guy those hot rod colors will look great on him. I also like on this figure with the arm you have a mega-man blaster if you want just for fun. And since its the back of the thruster you can add in blast effects lol.
For those wondering, part of why Doc is upset by how good this thing is is because he primarily reviews figures that have issues, because those are more interesting. With something as perfect as this, said problems don’t exist.
To be fair, the cartoon model of Cyclonus's vehicle mode has intake vents on either side of the cockpit where those gaps are, so I think it's a deliberate design choice. Too bad the right one is slightly warped on my copy.

With the mini masterpiece I would say that he actually surpasses most, especially if you consider the fun factor (as a person who does collect a little MP) . This review made me convinced to get this mold, probably a repaint since the purple here is the only thing i'm not too fond of.

You know how good this thing is? My only actual nitpick is that I think he should've had the soul patch had in more scenes in the movie and show than not. But clean shaven Cyclonus isn't bad either. If that teensy bit of personal preference is my lone imperfection, then whatever drug HasTak took to make this poor punching bag of the mad Emperor of Destruction BE so gloriously amazing, I hope they keep injecting it into their brains for future waves of BOTH Kingdom and SS86, especially Galvatron and Rhinox, maybe even beyond in future lines.
I heard that they were gonna do more G1 stuff in Kingdom but they wanted to do something for Beast Wars 25th anniversary so they split it between SS and WFC.
Yeah, I absolutely ADORE this figure, and it's gonna be really hard for anything else to hold up to the standard it sets, though that's at least gonna help my budget since I'll buy less figures now (aside from anything they slap a Starscream on, I'm still a Starscream Simp)
Repaints I usually avoid, cause I'm usually a "version of the mold" collector, but I've already bought 4 others just this year already with the 2 Cyberverse figures (Deluxe and Battlecal), and my preorders on the Bumblebee movie and Core class versions. lol

I've been away from transformers after losing interest some time in 2017, man have I missed out on a lot. Transformers One brought me back to the franchise, and I'm happy to see all the new stuff that has come out. Kingdom and Studio Series is what I always wanted. I've had fun recollecting old Bayverse figures I used to have fun with and a couple masterpiece figures, but DAMN I need to get my hands on this guy, I'm just put off by all the stuff I've heard about figures yellowing.
To me a mini masterpiece will always be a figure that is a decent representation of both modes, fun to transform while being both unique and straightforward, absolutely zero structural transparent plastic, and no shell-forming unless it absolutely makes sense for the way the transformation is shown on screen.
Hey is anyone else having an issue with the joints tightening themselves? Cyclonus has a yellowing issue, and it has been yellowing a lot for me where the joints are, elbows, hands, shoulders, ankles, etc. And for me at least as its gotten more yellow its also been getting much tighter, I can't move the arms anymore without fear that I may genuinely snap them off there's that much friction now.
I NEED to know if the leaked "Cyclonus' Armada" has a darker purple or even better, a full toy inspired deco like Selects Galvatron ASAP because the longer I wait on the Kingdom version, the more expensive and hard to find it'll get.
Like I said, I don't hate mechanical detail. This guy knows to not overdo it, while making it compliment the design. It's simplistic mechanic detail, that doesn't take away from how sleek he is.
Just wish the right bicep swivel on mine wasn't loose. Ehh it can hold a pose, it's grand. The transformation on this thing is just perfect in terms of how things flow. Though funny enough my favourite thing about playing with this figure, when I'm not transforming it, is just moving the head and neck around the place. It just feels nice.
@@DrLockdown I'm not too fussed about it since the rest of the joints are tight. And even then there's probably a way to fix it... if I wasn't nervous about taking the arm apart XD It's only annoying during transformation or if I try getting him to hold the Paleotrex weapons.

This figure is basically what earthrise starscream should have been. Also I think you'd enjoy ss86 Grimlock more than the others. He's just as good as figures like siege spinister and astrotrain in my opinion.

I got Sons of Cybertron Cyclonus myself/Got him at Botcon 2011 and my general thing with collecting transformers is that unless the figure is really good, I don't like double-dipping on a character I already got. IE POTP Jazz. Yeah, he was not a good figure, but he was the best looking one of the Jazzes I had/Animated & RID-2015, and plus I just frigging love Jazz. Looking at Cyclonus? I might just nab the Kingdom version because DEAR GOD, this thing looks like LIQUID SEX PERSONIFIED. Holy shit, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at your excitement with this figure, especially during the Light-Piping bit. GOD that was good.

How is robot mode the worst part of the figure? How about the paint on the gun that feels like cheap spray paint that feels like it will chip away with relative ease.
Really? I think it looks lush, and my copy is super sturdy. Plus the robot mode is amazing. It's just ironically the worst part because the vehicle mode is amazing.
Oh yea, the underside is clean... If you completely ignore the entirely exposed torso and shins, which is not different than every single other jet transformer. If just the chest and shins poking out is considered clean, then POTP Starscream is also a masterpiece.

Knowing Hasbro's potential repaint nonsense and/or logic, I 100% believe that they will pull a Studio Series KSI Boss on us and repaint this figure as the Armada (Y 'Know, that 2nd Cyclonus that we never saw again). This would give them an excuse to release this mold in the Studio Series 86 line as it would feature the same *SUPER* Movie accurate paint scheme that the Unite Warriors Cyclonus is adorned with. We would then go out and buy that figure and pretend that *HE* is Cyclonus while the actual Cyclonus from Kingdom becomes demoted to the Armada status.
Yea, really REALLY nice figure... The only conplain from me would been the head, not gonna lie I never liked the G1 head. And it would been nice to see him with IDW head. But at the end of the day this is just my opinion. Other wise, yea, this figure is GORGEOUS. And quec warning about "retro labels"..... Lazy hight brow posted a story about a expierienced costumizer who was trying to apply stickers on his SS86 Jazz view days ago , and well.... The windshield on him CRACKED easier them an egg shell, and he was gentle with it... In short BE CAREFULL .. Just In case...

Also why are the bits on the sides of the chest even painted? Transforming it reveals the parts to be the same colour plastic as the chest, so painting it is a waste of money.

I just don't like the G1 Cyclonus design, mostly due to the bunny ears because of Headmasters. Cyclonus as a figure IMO, is just meh, I'm not really a fan, its not my kind of figure. What I love is rekindling a spark like what Archer did in Generations and Classics, new designs that make sense are great, like 2010 Sullgrin.
I can't believe that the masterpiece title is used for over engineered figures that compromise fun and good engineering for the sake of G1 accuracy and shelf looks when figures like THIS deserve that title far more. heck they could just upscale it, give it a few more accessories, tweak the knees, and just call it a masterpiece and I still think that it would be better than 90% of what modern masterpiece churns out

I don't mind. The core robot doesn't partsform, so I don't mind the armour

There already is a sword upgrade, Matrix Workshop made one with it, a blaster based off Cyclonus' Targetmaster's gun form, and 2 additional blasters

before you pointed it out i didn't even notice the sides of the chest were painted and not molded it's that close, and i have this figure
The gaps near the cockpit are weird, but then a similar shape is in the nosecone in the next segment, so it looks as it was planned that way.

Coming from the future, it is indeed a toy accurate Cyclonus, but unfortunately, the QC gremlin has struck with his shoulders. Mostly the left.
My only real problem is the weird knee joints, leaves them bending at an odd angle if you don't put a lot of work into it.

I got Sons of Cybertron Cyclonus myself/Got him at Botcon 2011 and my general thing with collecting transformers is that unless the figure is really good, I don't like double-dipping on a character I already got.
IE POTP Jazz. Yeah, he was not a good figure, but he was the best looking one of the Jazzes I had/Animated & RID-2015, and plus I just frigging love Jazz.
Looking at Cyclonus? I might just nab the Kingdom version because DEAR GOD, this thing looks like LIQUID SEX PERSONIFIED. Holy shit, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at your excitement with this figure, especially during the Light-Piping bit. GOD that was good.

One thing that does kinda bug me about this guy is that the elbows seem a little to high up the arm. Not as much as Wheeljack, but still a minor grip. And I get why they couldn't do that anyway

How is robot mode the worst part of the figure? How about the paint on the gun that feels like cheap spray paint that feels like it will chip away with relative ease.
Really? I think it looks lush, and my copy is super sturdy.
Plus the robot mode is amazing. It's just ironically the worst part because the vehicle mode is amazing.

If you completely ignore the entirely exposed torso and shins, which is not different than every single other jet transformer. If just the chest and shins poking out is considered clean, then POTP Starscream is also a masterpiece.

Knowing Hasbro's potential repaint nonsense and/or logic, I 100% believe that they will pull a Studio Series KSI Boss on us and repaint this figure as the Armada (Y 'Know, that 2nd Cyclonus that we never saw again). This would give them an excuse to release this mold in the Studio Series 86 line as it would feature the same *SUPER* Movie accurate paint scheme that the Unite Warriors Cyclonus is adorned with. We would then go out and buy that figure and pretend that *HE* is Cyclonus while the actual Cyclonus from Kingdom becomes demoted to the Armada status.
I mean I'd buy 'his Armada'. It's a great mould

Yea, really REALLY nice figure... The only conplain from me would been the head, not gonna lie I never liked the G1 head.
And it would been nice to see him with IDW head. But at the end of the day this is just my opinion. Other wise, yea, this figure is GORGEOUS.
And quec warning about "retro labels"..... Lazy hight brow posted a story about a expierienced costumizer who was trying to apply stickers on his SS86 Jazz view days ago , and well.... The windshield on him CRACKED easier them an egg shell, and he was gentle with it...

Also why are the bits on the sides of the chest even painted? Transforming it reveals the parts to be the same colour plastic as the chest, so painting it is a waste of money.
They are, and it's not apparent in the footage, but there is a plastic mismatch. The paint corrects it

I just don't like the G1 Cyclonus design, mostly due to the bunny ears because of Headmasters. Cyclonus as a figure IMO, is just meh, I'm not really a fan, its not my kind of figure. What I love is rekindling a spark like what Archer did in Generations and Classics, new designs that make sense are great, like 2010 Sullgrin.
Those figures do have a lovely charm. The beasties seem to be falling into that category

I can't believe that the masterpiece title is used for over engineered figures that compromise fun and good engineering for the sake of G1 accuracy and shelf looks when figures like THIS deserve that title far more. heck they could just upscale it, give it a few more accessories, tweak the knees, and just call it a masterpiece and I still think that it would be better than 90% of what modern masterpiece churns out
