When will the 2025 version come to Malaysia? Saw some videos of it in China and the improvements are nice. Heard that only the dark interior version is available in Malaysia, hopefully the salmon color will come over as a choice.
$10k AUD more here in Australia for the AWD Performance. 160kw/215hp more is worth the $10k which is really nothing for this kind of performance. And two whole seconds faster to 100kmh/62mph than the RWD Premium, which is significant even being 200kgs-300kgs heavier. You’ll be looking at a good $15k more for a Tesla with similar performance. And double the overall cost for an ICE car that can keep up. If I had to buy again, would do it again. Drove a Premium and just didn’t have the kick, which was a deal-breaker. But to each their own!
Unfortunately the annual road tax for the Performance variant here in Malaysia would be a deal breaker for those considering the Performance over the Premium variant. Its almost triple the rate of the Premium.
Performance isn't everything. Australians have a weird obsession with straight-line speed despite overzealous policing and strict speed limits so there isn't really a point. Range and day-to-day usability are far more important factors to consider. For context, Aiman was an editor at an Australian motoring publication for 4 years.
Nice car and great value for money. Similar price here in Australia. One slight concern is that the ground clearance seems a little low. Not sure if it's a an issue in the real world and it might not be any better on the Tesla Model 3.
I test drove the car today as well. The AC was a bit too cold for me so we turned it off on the driver side. I wonder if you drove the car I was in next. It was Premium RWD Black.
Had a Performance for 2 months and it’s too cold here in Australia. Cold days, 10C, I usually have mine at 30C. So found the opposite of you. Maybe just individual preferences. Came from a ‘21 BMW G20, and it’s def colder than that by a margin.
I think the Seal will attract more buyers than the M3. The quality is better and the more conventional interior is more convenient for most potential buyers.
Agreed on the quality interior, the pricing as well. I'm interested in Seal Performance. It's sublime when I test drive it before. The only dilemma I had is, software support for M3 is better. That's my only reason for still not shooting the bullet 😅
Thanks Aiman for the review, which as always is excellent. Found that the segment on the charging realities most useful. Is it ok to charge everyday because it is an LFP battery tech? How different is this to others?
LFP batteries are not as energy dense as NMC or LI batteries, but they remain stable for longer. They also don't suffer from the same thermal runaway in event of an undesirable incident. BYD themselves recommend charging the car to 100% as much as possible, and DC charging at least once a month (if we're not wrong).
@@julianhee1455 1. You can charge it to 100% every time. 2. Superior charging curve. 3. Better aftersales service. 4. More user-friendly cabin. 5. Better ADAS systems. 6. Better build quality & NVH. 7. More comfortable ride. 8. Better service network.
As usual, quite a detailed review and it seems this car offer good value for an EV. Quite impressed with the charging curve which is a practical feature. The only missing part is the ADAS system. Was looking forward to some opinions on the ADAS system. It seems that the BYD ADAS is still not up to a level where drivers feel confident or like to use the system. Wonder if this car has any improvement in the ADAS or BYD has made improvement on the software.
We covered that in our Performance review. The ADAS system on the Seal is very reliable, though it likes to hug the left side of the lane a bit too much. This happens alot with cars or systems calibrated for LHD markets. But Aiman doesn't like to use lane-centering unless it's bumper-to-bumper traffic so it didn't seem cumbersome. Otherwise the ADAS system was engaged on all motorway journeys, and proved to be a very solid drive assistant.
Mate, yours might have a battery issue, mine is consistently 550 plus in mixed driving and 480 in highway only driving, and that’s the average in the tests by the car reviewers aswell.
@singlaland, I am leaving in Malaysia and driving Premium model. With current ambient temperature around 35 degC, Spot mode and standard regent., I managed to get around 450-500km range.
The overall refinement, power, and value is worth it. Had the Performance 2 months now and very happy with it. A software update fixed a lot of the glaring issues, but not all. But for the price, $75k AUD driveaway is downright cheap for what you get. Can easily overlook the shortcomings with the UI and software.
Yeah, better than a half past 6 panel stitching on Tesla where the company is on the verge of collapse with Elon’s eccentric behavior. You will cry when the company collapses
@@nemoralia- not even crying, BYD has a huge reserve. Can’t say the same for Tesla. Accept the fate one day once the “OTA” creed collapses alright. BYD manufactures 70% of the worlds iPad, unlike Tesla selling dreams and burning cash since the company was setup

I don't understand the current fascination with fixed 'racing' style headrest for the front seats.. it's uncomfortable and gives a bad view from the rear.
Agreed. Hate them. Have had a Performance for two months now and have gotten used to them. Had a ‘21 BMw M340i and had the same fixed headrests. Not a fan but they become un-noticeable after time.
Single phase goes up to 7kW, you don't need a 3 phase charger. 3 phase charger is only needed to charge 11 or 22kW EV's Also after the roadtax announcement, RM300+ for Premium and RM900+ for Performance.. it really Seals the deal on the Premium

Yes. These are LFP batteries.
