We have Chinese EVs and ICEs on our side of the border, here in Mexico. We've had them for around 5 years now. The main issue we've seen with those is parts availability and reliability in electronics and some steel parts such as control arms or subframe welds coming off. The main deterrent is the lack of parts availability. Minor fender benders will have you with no ride for months. Everything is on backorder from China. Folks will rather order parts from AliExpress than wait for the insurance to fulfill and repair. Very cool and pretty cars. Just not there yet in terms of logistics and quality.
so same issue with cars like from japan and korea where parts are the problem or rather their shipping time and price of the parts. but chinese can make it work faster with a local storage for every part
This car was released back in April I believe, it was due to the tariffs that u don't see a lot of TH-cam videos on this car. Now Xiaomi just announced and showed the SUV version called Xiaomi YU7, and obviously as mentioned in the video the SU7 ultra
The SU7 ultra that lapped the Nordschleife was a completely stripped down prototype, so it's actually competing in a class with cars like the Volkswagen ID.R The taycan is completely road legal, including non slick tires which makes a huge difference
I would 100% get one for $41.500... It's basically a no brainer if you compare it to the competitors on the market. Anything close to it is $50.000 and above. Can't wait for them to come to Europe.
@@Clumsykae Because that's how the chinese are going to take over the western car market. Sell good vehicles with decent quality long warranties for cheap, chinese car companies don't need to make money because the CCP can just pick up the slack and fund R&D, when chinese brands are perennially installed in our car markets they'll allow themselves to increase prices.
These will never go for $40k in a free economy. China offers substantial buyer rebates for EVs, which were paid directly to manufacturers for vehicles produced in China, not for imported cars. They are exemped from 10% sales tax, Chinese government subsidizes EV R&D with dedicated government funds. You could easily get a $30k Tesla if US uses tax payer money to do these as well. But of course the average comsumer can only see a MSRP and screams "why can't we have things like this?"
@@CanadianStig990 looks like free market is working as attended. The U.S. Government could always subsidize their EV industry even more so the consumer can buy cheaper U.S. cars.
Just a quick note, you can actually change the language to English, you will need to go to settings, then system and tap the s/n around 10 times fast. It’s a bit complicated but I can confirm it works as I own this car
The US would never let Chinese cars in US. The market disruption would be devastating to US, Japanese, and Korean brands. Despite the security, build quality, and reliability concern, Xaomi made a great product for the price.
The stories about this car emerging out of China leave alot to be desired, but Im trying to be cognisant of the fact its a phone company venturing into the EV space. If they can fix the reliability issues it can do well but for the price point you cant have brakes wearing off when pushed hard consistently or bits coming off. They're well in the game when it comes to software.
Xiaomi has updated a hidden English mode after software update 1.4.0. You can change the language by going to Setting - System - parameters & info, then tap the Kernel Version for several times. I hope you enjoy it❤
In the design you mentioned McLaren, Porsche, Tesla, generic Chinese EVs. It just sounds like an amalgamation of things, which isn't surprising because the design team were a combination of domestic designers and talent poached from European manufacturers. What they ended up making was a blend of their different experiences.
Car is insane, might be the new SRT for America, how on earth do you produce such an insanely high quality car for so cheap, and with that amount of horse power you’re asking for trouble 😂
Compared with BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes C Class, Tesla Model 3, Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, Acura TLX, Kia K5, Genesis G70, Cadillac CT5, Dodge Charger, & Other Midsize Sedan Compared with Xiaomi SU7
I believe there will be a time when chinese products wether cars or anything else will stop being considered bad quality. They are really stepping up their game.
personaly waiting for the SUV version and europe entry ofc. also looking towards the onvo l60 in europa or rather who every comes here first makes nice sales
I remember when I lived in China, the default was Chinese cars were trash. Plasticky, even worse than the worst Kias. I visited China this past winter to see my family and most of my Didi drivers were driving BYD EVs. I was shocked by how nice they were. A lot of them put a lot of miles/kms on their vehicle. I asked them about the reliability and most of them said they didn't have many issues (at least not more than you'd normally have with a vehicle). Then I asked them about the price. 140,000 yuan. That's around $19k for a quality midsize EV sedan with tons of standard features. He asked me how much EVs costed in the US, and I said you'd be looking at around $40k starting for a Model 3 and he said, "how could anyone afford to drive in America?" Despite Americans making far more than Chinese people on average, corporate executives have made us poor and ran off with the money!
Cheap brakes, aluminum wiring, faulty airbags and seats that break in half in a crash, pass. Curious how this thing would do in IIHS testing since they are more thorough than Euro NCAP of NHSTA
aren't those front brake calipers fake? There was that guy who crashed on a track and his brakes beneath the fake calipers were like the size of an economy car's brakes
Day 12 of asking to review the M5 E39 What do you call a car made by a phone company? - A Mobile 😅 (I'm sorry if my joke is corny or cringe, my grandpa loved it so that's all that matters 🥲)
I remember seeing where I think it was this car, or another EV where the “brembo” brake pads were actually a very small 1 piston pad setup and the brakes failed, which cause the driver to perform evasive maneuvers to scrub speed before we rolled off into gravel 😂😂 there’s a reason why Chinese EV’s are illegal, their trash. I would not trust this EV to go down the street. Otherwise whoever has “cheap” EV’s would clean house in the states. But Manufacturers are focused on sub 300 mile range $60k+ massive truck and SUV EV’s.
The problem with the SU7 is the general lack of safety. The car is loaded with features and equipment, but if you just search for Xiaomi SU7 crash on TH-cam, you'll find some scary evidence of their lackluster safety, such as brake pads that are about ⅓ the size of the fake caliper around it (not exaggerating)

Fair enough. But quality is not problem any longer. Sales has proven that.

Man I wish that we can have this exact car here in the US. It's a reason why Ford's own CEO loves the car himself.
he'll never give it up either
we could get this for 40k but the gov wants their 100 percent cut so 80k... str8 BS
still a better value
At first I thought he would review a phone
I was thinking the same thing when did they start making cars now 😂

for building this car, xiaomi ceo even got a racing license
I am a bloody subscriber from China and look what I just find out! BRAVO!
Thanks to the EVs, the dream cars are affordable to everyone now, in China though.
This is the first genuine driver's car among all the Chinese EVs.
It is my dream come true.❤

Yea, I think it's probably like Tesla's initial build quality. They'll figure out the hardware before long (I hope)
Watching this on Xiaomi phone 🤳❤
They're amazing deals for this price and very powerful
Seems like their car lineup will follow suit
We need a what it's like to live with video with this car

good morning miles! front and side look kinda like a taycan, and the rear kinda looks like a lincoln mkz. anyway, that thing is crazy value for money
and happy early birthday to me! (its tomorrow)

You guys should take a look at the brake pads
You mean the pads that kept failing 😂
xiaomi is pronounced "see-yow me" with see-yow being a single syllable
Or to be simpler, Shall Me
Finally you got yourself a Chinese EV❤
i personally find it reminiscent of an audi e-tron

Really hope Chinese cars to get into the US. The car market is insane here
It would certainly introduce a little more competition

They rate of improvement is wild
The car that they lapped on the Nurburgring is highly modified and street illegal

XIAOMI YU7 ❤
Ok I quickly see the Chinese influence on these comments wow! Miles
America is slacking in many areas nowadays smh
in that color it would stand out more , and the price is concerning i mean is too good to be true
And it's a FREE color while black and white are optional. They know any car delivered will be a moving ad on the street 😅
It for sure wouldn't be $40K if it was sold in the U.S., but who knows how large the tax/tariff bill would be
