The Seal (82,5kW) RWD can do at least 360km on a highway with 130km/h @ -2c I've had it for about 4 weeks now and that trip is equivalent to my daily commute x2 👌 I highly recommend testing both versions of the car, since the AWD is a bit more soft in the suspension duo to the adaptive dampers.
Have you thought about replacing the suspension? When I tested it it was a bit bouncy. I am looking to replace it with AGT Shock suspension to make it less bouncy.
Great review. 20% off WLTP is pretty standard and considering the conditions like you mentioned. I think it is perfectly acceptable. Here in sunny Singapore, my car does very close to the WLTP range at full charge. My car under dynamic consumption, it shows 583Km of range. Paper is 570.
the signal stalk is at the correct side for the BYD. when you drive a manual transmission car at UK or Japan, left hand on the stick, right hand stroke the stalk, pretty standard.
@@GoksCarLounge in Malaysia (LHT like UK), Japanese cars always make it on the right. except some lazy manufacturer (like proton), make it to the left so that they can use same parts for LHT and RHT models.

One of the best and informative reviews of the BYD seal. You covered all the main points thank you. I am considering going EV in the next few months, and have been looking at the EQE and Seal reviews on you tube. I live near Milton Keynes and will certainly check out the seal.
BYD doesnt pose any threat to Mercedes because Mercedes buyers arent looking for bang for the buck but only prestige , they dont even care about the mileage or performance as long as everyone can immediately tell they are driving a more expensive car which set them apart from the working class, the money is well spent. Mercedes marketing know this very well and thats how they set the price and build their cars accordingly.
Very nice review indeed. The power discharge function is very useful if you have blackout, can power the fridge, washing machine and lights. Atto3 owner and ordered a premium seal as well.
The BYD Seal also has a vehicle to load, which is a feature not found on all electric vehicles. In Australia we have an entry level model called the Dynamic. It costs $49,888 Australian dollars before on road costs. It has a smaller battery 60.5 kW, 17 inch wheels no head up display and fake leather seats. Everything else on the upper models is standard on the Dynamic model. I have a BYD Seal performance on order in an optional exterior colour here called Shark grey for our market, which currently is only available on the performance model for $2,000 Australian dollars and I have also gone with the ocean blue interior which costs an additional $1,500 Australian dollars. The Seal performance model costs $68,498 Australian dollars before on road costs. The white exterior colour is free on all models, a metallic colour excluding Shark grey is an additional $1,500 Australian dollars.😮
I also had one on order in Australia but had to cancel due to low ground clearance issue(s) See my post above. Make sure you're happy with the low clearance before completing your purchase. The demo RWD I drove with under 600 km on it had graze damage already under the front bumper leading edge. It's quite a low car compared with most others.
In Australia we have the entry level Seal. Still a very nice car with a lot of features but sells for the equivalent of just over 25K pounds. Cars, however, tend to be a lot cheaper here than UK/Europe.
So your view is that it has to be god because it was made by a European? "The Chinese may have the money but it takes a genius European car designer to build an excellent car because of the inherent superiority of Europeans" ?
My issues with it after a test drive: - The interior gets dirty quickly - Small boot - Small access to the boot - Bad front seats - Price (55k EU) which would allow me to look at other brands
Mate, that was a fully transparent and incisive test of what is without doubt as game changing for UK as when Japanese motorbikes arrived here. Love seeing the family too👍... Didn’t hear mention of IPace. We’re EPace drivers, still not confident enough with charging infrastructure to fully commit. IPace would be our go to.
Thanks Peter! I don’t have much experience with Jags. I have done photoshoots with the EPace and Ipace SVR but they were only for a day. If you can have a second car which is EV that would be a good way to integrate it into your life. The infrastructure is getting better… as I said not perfect but better. Thanks for watching!
Love this car, but group 50D in the UK is crazy when you compare it to rivals that are MUCH lower. The Kia EV6 GT for example that's in group 45, despite being more expensive, faster to 60 & more powerful. I hope this changes once they have more data to base it against...
wow first gen BYD, cant wait for the inevitable upgrades in the next few years! we've seen what the Chinese manufacturers have done with the phone market.... smashed it wide open, now everyone can get an affordable phone
Thanks Gok , looks like BYD are gonna make decent inroads in new EV car sales with the Seal , it loos like a real direct Tesla model 3 rival and the specs etc look good value by EV costs - I’m in Ireland where they are currently just started promoting BYD ( as ‘the car brand you haven’t heard of ‘) and i think looks like it will do well …i would point out Ireland has a frustrating amount of speed ramps and the low profile of the seal could be a tad problematic - otherwise everything you pointed out looks really good imo - one small critism if i may - its just so overly done now picking a range location of a couple of hundred miles and seeing how the real world EV performs , its self fulfilling prophesy stuff that imo is best avoided at this stage - 95% of buyers drive a daily commute well with the 200 mile range of the BYD - spending so much time in reviewers talking about the one journey that is gonna stretch the range is kinda pointless - as you say the exact same thing could be appl;ied to ANY car - its just pointless - by all means do the journey for thr review but please spare us the whole -oh i had to stop and charge the car stuff - your reviews are way too good for that type of content IMO…keep up the good work
Thanks Dave! I’ve done a fair few EVs now and I don’t want them to be “samey”. Plus it was a fun road trip where I had never been :) but appreciate the feedback.
Test drove a BYD seal today, came home and cancelled my Tesla order 😂 i was very impressed to say the least, the build quality, ride comfort and power delivery was incredible, BYD Seal performance on the way😊
@GoksCarLounge have now had the Seal for a few weeks and loving it!! Great car for transitioning from an ICE vehicle to an EV, very efficient, comfortable and that instant torque Wow!!😊 Glad I chose the Seal over the Tesla, love the look and the interior feels very premium where as the Tesla felt very cheap inside and to stripped back for my liking
I am driving a Honda Hybrid, was very happy with it until last year went back to China tried my brother's BYD Seal, can't forget how satisfying to a car like that.
30k (pounds) - 3k incentive (27k) in Australia for the premium model and under 36k for the top end, 3.8secs 0 to 60mph model, but competing against a Tesla s3 long range(no needed service warranty and the best refuel servicing in zee vorld yah)for that price so has to be.
HUH. The base model is AUD $49K, the performance is AUD $69K. Not sure where you got those figures from. And the incentives were dumped in several states on 31 Dec 2023.
@DashcamsTasmania The 3 grand still applied in most states so long as you ordered by the 31st of December, the rebate will be honoured when you take delivery even if it's not until early 2024 providing you meet the rebate criteria at the time of ordering.
Thanks for this review. Really enjoyed watching and your comments. I'm here in Western Australia and already have a BYD Atto 3 which is quite a remarkable small SUV. I think I'm going to give the Seal Premium a go. The Seal Premium is mid spec for us. It's RWD only with a 0-100kM time of 5.9s. It does get a bigger battery than the Seal Dynamic which is the base model here and it gets just about all the extras of the top of the range Seal Performance similar to your review model. The only thing I'm not so keen about is that it's a sedan rather than an SUV like the Atto 3. That said, we'll still have the BYD Atto 3. At around AUD$63K inc on roads - GBP33K drive away, it's an absolute bargain. I also get a AUD$3500 state government incentive too.
Excellent review. I have a seal on order, should be here very soon. From all the reviews I’ve seen, the general consensus seems to suggest that this car is more of a grand tourer than a sport sedan. That’s a good move to differentiate the car from tesla model 3 or other cars of its size, but I would really love it if the car is tuned more toward sportiness, especially given its acceleration figure. Maybe stickier tyres and aftermarket suspension, if it ever becomes available, will help transform the car though its range will surely be reduced.
A nice practical review. I doubt it is a car for the Australian market. Cars for Australia (and New Zealand) don’t have “Build Your Dreams” emblazoned on the boot. We also get 3 models (as other commenters have noted) a 60kWh RWD “base” model, a 82kWh RWD long range model and a 82kWh AWD performance model (£32K, £36K and £42K respectively in NZ). I have test driven the Seal. As a current Tesla Model 3 owner, I like that it has a driver’s display and HUD, proper blind spot monitoring and an indicator stalk (on the correct side for me😊). On the same test drive route, the Seal Premium (as it’s called here) - 82kWh RWD had consumption figures 10% worse than my Model 3 RWD. Considering it weighs 300kg more, I thought that was pretty good. And 10% better than the Ioniq 6 I tested. In all cases the temperature was about 18C though. Since I get an average of 130Wh/km in my Tesla year round, I reckon the Seal, even at 150Wh/km is still going to get me over 500km (340mi). It rarely, if ever, gets below 0C here though.
Dingbatt, the seal sedan, is selling well in Australia. Build Your Dreams has been removed and replaced with BYD only. This is how all future vehicles will be sold globally.
I said it on one of your other videos how interesting it is to see all these Chinese cars coming in. SMART and even VOLVO is now Chinese and have to say all very good EVs. This Seal looks great, not gonna lie very much reminds me of the facelifted model 3, and on the back the light resemble the EQE. But for the price it is very good, and looked great build quality. The video wad awesome. Have you driven the small one, the dolphin? Is that any good? Also, on the armrest, what is rectangle looking thingy with a + sign in the middle?
It’s a NFC area but couldn’t figure out what for.. possibly pairing phones? Thanks for watching mate. Dolphin will be on the channel some point in the next months 🙏🏻
The indicator stalks for right hand drive cars should be on the right! That is the side Japanese cars have them because they drive on the left like the UK. The only reason why most of the cars in the UK have left side indicator stalks is that manufacturers make mainly left hand drive cars and the stalks are adapted for them and they can’t be bothered to adapt them for right hand drive versions which sell less. So you are only used to the wrong side! The BYD has it correct.
BYD is an incredibly aggressive firm, and well financed, they are going to be a savage competitor to VW and other mass-market auto brands. I don't think Mercedes or BMW will be affected; BYD is an not a status brand.
You do know most Asian and North American car companies have the indicator stalk on the right, even here in Oz and the US as well as Asia. European cars have the indicator stalk on the left. It’s just how a majority of cars have been built for decades. I’ve had VWs and BMWs for 15 years and the stalk is on the left. Drove and ordered the BYD and it’s a right hand drive here in Oz and the stalk is on the right. It’s just how it is! The side the wheel is on has no bearing on which side the indicator stalk is on. Cheers mate
Own Tesla 3 long range dual motor and looking to buy another EV. Will drive one brother in-law's new BYD Seal top specs to see whether that could be right choice. Still another brother in-law owns a Tesla Model S 100D and he is also interested in the Seal or Polestar. No more ICE, even though a Porsche GT3 sits in the garage, neglected.
It's not just a heated cabin that takes away from your range in a colder climate. It's the temperature of the battery which needs to be optimal to work well. So the battery has to be heated as well.
Was this the 390kw. Version you drove? Great review - this has just come up as a lease option under the NHS fleet services and something I’m now considering even taking into account I can’t charge outside my home.
Hey mate. Yes it was :) top of the range. I would advise having regular charge points you have access to. Public charge points are 3/4x more expensive than what you would pay at home. Bear that in mind. My Taycan ST video explains all of it you want to watch. Thanks for watching
Test drive Mercedes EQS500 last Friday because Mercedes is offering USD42k (RM200K) discount to try sell non moving stocks in Malaysia, then last Wednesday, on labor day, went to local BYD dealer and tested BYD Seal. My test drives conclusion are as follows: On looks BYD Seal have the upper hand. On my arrival at Mercedes local dealer, first look at EQS500, the car looks futuristic but internal it feels cramped, it has a huge LCD panel across the dashboard, it is overkill. EQS500 LCD panel collects dust and visible with naked eyes, and it is awful. The windscreen also reflecting some of the dashboard components, it is very irritating and distracting views during driving. On the other hand BYD Seal 2 LCD panels is nicely positioned and suffice for size car and agrees that the layout is good and is proportional & practical. BYD’s LCD screen ability to change from portrait to landscape is really fascinating. Headroom in BYD Seal is better than EQS, even I had adjusted my seat to the lowest level possible. On the build and finishing, BYD seal beats EQS hand down, during my close inspection of these cars body, EQS poor body joints between the bumper and body gaps are big as compared to BYD seal, EQS does not carries Mercedes premium status anymore, really surprised to see such workmanship on a Mercedes also these are showroom cars. These car performance and handling are closely match. Conclusion BYD Seal is definitely a better car to start with any EV purchase.
Hey, thanks for the in depth feedback. Nice to see and hear people with real life experiences, as mine has been. As opposed to the people losing their mind because I mention Mercedes in the same breath as BYD. THANK YOU!
@@GoksCarLounge you are welcome, in fact I am a big fan of Mercedes, I am still driving an old Mercedes but think of switching to another Mercedes but not a Mercedes EV.
You covered things nicely. I ended up with the Australian AWD “Performance” model as I simply believe AWD to be the safer choice for driving on wet roads for less talented drivers like myself. I actually had no interest in buying an EV until this came out. It’s like BYD set out to build a great car which could compete with Mercedes or BMW…… Which just happened to be and EV. I just fell in love with the aesthetics of the car. Aftermarket wood look options for the centre console, sterling wheel and front seat inserts added class which was missing to the black interior. There’s carbon fibre look available also though Im not crazy about the whole ricer look. In Atlantis Grey this is an elegant yet sporty looking car and it’s very comfortable on the roads. I find the suspension quite firm so based on the fact a Tesla Model 3 is mean to to be harder….. Yeah, I couldn’t live with harder hey. This is a mode of transport. I don’t do track work. :)
Great video. I'm not even into cars but i saw something on the BYD company and thought why not see how EV's have developed recently. I think you deserve at least 10x the subscribers!

The Seal (82,5kW) RWD can do at least 360km on a highway with 130km/h @ -2c
I've had it for about 4 weeks now and that trip is equivalent to my daily commute x2 👌
I highly recommend testing both versions of the car, since the AWD is a bit more soft in the suspension duo to the adaptive dampers.
Have you thought about replacing the suspension? When I tested it it was a bit bouncy. I am looking to replace it with AGT Shock suspension to make it less bouncy.
@@deserialized I think the suspension of the RWD is perfect. So I have no reason to change or replace anything.
The AWD is bouncy and very soft tho.
@@mogensen84 ah, I thought you had the AWD. I will pick it up in a week and I will probably replace suspension.
Great review. 20% off WLTP is pretty standard and considering the conditions like you mentioned. I think it is perfectly acceptable. Here in sunny Singapore, my car does very close to the WLTP range at full charge. My car under dynamic consumption, it shows 583Km of range. Paper is 570.
damn commuting total of 180 km a day is insane, how can you manage your sanity driving that long every single day, holy fuck
well done BYD , your review was top notch.
Thank you!
the signal stalk is at the correct side for the BYD.
when you drive a manual transmission car at UK or Japan, left hand on the stick, right hand stroke the stalk, pretty standard.
That does make sense, but in the UK it’s always been on the left.
@@GoksCarLounge in Malaysia (LHT like UK), Japanese cars always make it on the right.
except some lazy manufacturer (like proton), make it to the left so that they can use same parts for LHT and RHT models.
That's because of cost savings for the European car manufacturers who don't bother to do a proper conversion for RHD. @@GoksCarLounge
and china drives on th eright, so doesnt make sense
@@GoksCarLounge When indicators became factory fitted in the late 50's the lever was on the right-hand side. I would think it changed after you lot joined the EEC. Go look at old Pommy cars at a car show.
One of the best and informative reviews of the BYD seal. You covered all the main points thank you. I am considering going EV in the next few months, and have been looking at the EQE and Seal reviews on you tube. I live near Milton Keynes and will certainly check out the seal.
Amazing! Thanks you so much for watching and I’m glad you found it useful. Let me know when you’re going in and I’ll pass the message on to them!
The people saying Audi is not surprising, as BYD hired Audis head of design.
Didn’t know! Thanks!
I wish BYD can enter the US market ASAP. My next car will be a EV and better to be a BYD.
us banned it
Looks like they may come to the USA by building BYD vehicles in Mexico
Just like the western always says " For security reasons" WTF 😆 😂 😅 🤣, they know that lost the game.
if US ban BYD, then bring it to Canada. I would love to own one of these. Everything I see is better then Tesla.
NIO also good
the interior looks gobs better than any tesla, not just the 3. I wish BYD would come to the US.
No, your politicians stop you from buying cheap and good products from China! Enjoy your GMs!
My wife and I own a BYD Song and a Bao 5. I don't know what they are called in overseas markets. But they are nothing but fantastic so far.
Good to hear, we don't have those models... yet
just saw one on Singapore road, a very good looking car.
Very nice review indeed. The power discharge function is very useful if you have blackout, can power the fridge, washing machine and lights. Atto3 owner and ordered a premium seal as well.
Great review, awesome machine, amazing kit as standard.
In your opinion, what are the top🔝 three colours?
Thanks Doc! Looks quite nice in black and white actually…
Yes! Feature I experienced in the Atto3. So cool!
Yes very inflated here sadly :( not just EVs
Only annoying thing for Australia is the charging port is on the RHS.
not really, cars tend be megaexpensive in australia. the only brands that havnt followed that trend are polestar, tesla and byd.
@@kingprone7846 Don’t agree. Subaru Forester base price in Australia is AUD 38,000. In UK it’s £38,000. Way cheaper in Australia.
I love your test with the public - that was brilliant, and says a lot about its styling and build quality. 😀
Thank you! :) glad you liked it hah
Not surprised! Byd hired a famed European car designer to create the Seal.
So your view is that it has to be god because it was made by a European? "The Chinese may have the money but it takes a genius European car designer to build an excellent car because of the inherent superiority of Europeans" ?
but the tech part is byd origined
So tell us, what's the name of that "famed European designer"? So "famed" that you don't know the name. LOL 😂
@@nakedbrownape It means that the style of the car would resemble western preferred design patterns.
@@nakedbrownape european designs are superior that is correct!
Loved the balanced and practical review. Keep up the great work.
Thanks bud! Appreciate it!
My issues with it after a test drive:
- The interior gets dirty quickly
- Small boot
- Small access to the boot
- Bad front seats
- Price (55k EU) which would allow me to look at other brands
Really like this car.
Thanks for watching!
BYD Seal Excelence is an amazing car.
BYD has plugin hybrid models of this car selling in China even cost less than the Dynamic version. I would wait for the plugin hybrid ❤
The seal dmi is a totally different car, just share the same name.
Hi, here in Mexico this same version cost 41k pounds, tremendous value
Nice! How does that compare with equivalent Tesla?
@@GoksCarLounge the new Tesla Highland AWD is about 4k more expensive
Good review. The reviewer is cool, good, and calm. Liked. Thxs.
Thanks dude 👍🏼
Love this car, but group 50D in the UK is crazy when you compare it to rivals that are MUCH lower. The Kia EV6 GT for example that's in group 45, despite being more expensive, faster to 60 & more powerful. I hope this changes once they have more data to base it against...
I hate insurance companies.
wow first gen BYD, cant wait for the inevitable upgrades in the next few years! we've seen what the Chinese manufacturers have done with the phone market.... smashed it wide open, now everyone can get an affordable phone
Gorgeous and extraordinary car!
Really like this car. Very tempting!
Couldn’t fault it! Thanks for watching
@@GoksCarLounge Me neither. Drove one a couple of weeks ago 👍
came from a malaysian rally driver drifting this thing on a busy road!!!!! it seems awesome!!! didnt realise its 4 x 4 too!!!?
DEFINITELY Getting this Over the Tesla
Not a good choice. Tesla is superior in every way.
Thanks
Test drove a BYD seal today, came home and cancelled my Tesla order 😂 i was very impressed to say the least, the build quality, ride comfort and power delivery was incredible, BYD Seal performance on the way😊
Hey James! Thanks for watching! I’m glad people have given it a chance and not dismissed it for “being Chinese” let us know how you get on!
@GoksCarLounge will do, great review👍
@GoksCarLounge have now had the Seal for a few weeks and loving it!!
Great car for transitioning from an ICE vehicle to an EV, very efficient, comfortable and that instant torque Wow!!😊
Glad I chose the Seal over the Tesla, love the look and the interior feels very premium where as the Tesla felt very cheap inside and to stripped back for my liking
Can anyone shed some light on the UK pricing myth? It's almost twice the retail price in China. Surely it's not all because of import duty.
Went to look at one today after seeing one on the road last week
Ordered and looking forward to taking delivery
congrats! You from the UK?
I am driving a Honda Hybrid, was very happy with it until last year went back to China tried my brother's BYD Seal, can't forget how satisfying to a car like that.
30k (pounds) - 3k incentive (27k) in Australia for the premium model and under 36k for the top end, 3.8secs 0 to 60mph model, but competing against a Tesla s3 long range(no needed service warranty and the best refuel servicing in zee vorld yah)for that price so has to be.
Well AU price is cheaper and I picked up one but -3k aud to gbp price is bit much😂
Thank you from the other side! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it and having a good experience.
Just ordered the AWD seal - great review.
Thank you! Congrats!
Maybe stickier tyres and aftermarket suspension, if it ever becomes available, will help transform the car though its range will surely be reduced.
very gorgeous car. good job. BYD
UK ENJOYING BYD NICE 👍👍👍👍
great video, great test and great idea !!!!!!
Thank you my friend! ❤️
Thanks for watching! Interesting to see the variances locations can have, would make it difficult for brands to decide what to publish I guess!
Dingbatt, the seal sedan, is selling well in Australia. Build Your Dreams has been removed and replaced with BYD only. This is how all future vehicles will be sold globally.
The ones in nz still got build your dreams written at the back sadly haha.
@@GoksCarLounge You also get a card as well as the fob & u place the card in that rectangle when using it AFAIK
Ah yes… had the card with the Atto3. Loved using it… what’s AFAIK?

The indicator stalks for right hand drive cars should be on the right! That is the side Japanese cars have them because they drive on the left like the UK. The only reason why most of the cars in the UK have left side indicator stalks is that manufacturers make mainly left hand drive cars and the stalks are adapted for them and they can’t be bothered to adapt them for right hand drive versions which sell less. So you are only used to the wrong side! The BYD has it correct.
Hahaha. The Seal of Excellence. Nicely described.
Haha you’re the first to pick up on it 😉
Let’s go back this year and see if we can see the Seals 🦭
BYD is an incredibly aggressive firm, and well financed, they are going to be a savage competitor to VW and other mass-market auto brands. I don't think Mercedes or BMW will be affected; BYD is an not a status brand.
True! Let’s see how it goes
though im in china have seen many seals, your vedio present a good review:)
Thank you very much!
Cheers mate
Thanks for the review. Hopefully it can come to Canada.
I too want to come to Canada! Bucket list
Not happening.
Love the physical buttons and stalks, so much better than Tesla.
I don’t recall mention of the sound system. I assume it’s good?
we love all things chinese... BYD please come to brazil !!!!!!!!
That's a beautiful interior
Great review 👏
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Was this the 390kw.
My test drives conclusion are as follows:
On looks BYD Seal have the upper hand.
Whats the car looks like for a popular car? Is it like camry or corolla or something longer ( im talking about the length and inner space)
Thank you kind sir!
Good job with the review and I like your follow-up ccmments
🫡 thank you kind friend
How’s the cabin noise with motorway driving?

Good review. The only thing I think you missed is the charging power, speeds and times.
Thanks mate, thanks for watching.. I did mention it can take up to 150kwh. Then the times are dependant on where and how you charge :)
Would you class this car as a mid SUV? Would this be good for families?
SUV No, family car? Yes I think so 👍🏼
People still think only Tesla make EV car in these day. People need to know China got all the technology and machines to make premium EV car too. Wish they could go to China EV Expo to educate themselves more.
