    I just had to come back to this vid and say thank you so much for this info! I tried making a cologne with the Club 190 instead of the Dark Rum that I normally use and what a HUGE difference! My normal blend smelled so different that I had to modify it. I could actually smell the EOs in it without the covered scent of rum! And it blended without any effort. Valuable advice, wonderful demo and I truly appreciate you sharing this!

    This is great information. Basically a no to Witch Hazel and Vodka, because neither mixes well with EO or FO and no to Isopropyl Alcohol (99%) because the scent is way too strong and it dries out the skin too much even though it mixes well with EO and FO and only use Grain Alcohol/Everclear or Perfumer's alcohol because they both mix well and don't over power the scent from the EO or FO. Thank you so much as I'm a beginner and researching information.

    Great video! Trust me, I have watched MANY TH-cam videos where the person rambles, and you DO NOT ramble, you explain things in an in depth and understandable manner. Exactly the info I needed to clear up the Witch Hazel vs Isopropyl vs Vodka debate. I am VERY picky about my perfume, and have always had problems finding that exact scent I want. I have now gotten into pure essential oils, and I can't wait to start making my own perfumes. Since I am a newbie to DIY perfume, this video was perfect to help me get started. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Thank you for taking time out to teach! I had a person say they would teach me but of course that's when they were trying to get my business and money with them. They created my fragrance but when I asked how to make it, they got upset and I still don't know how to make a fragrance that is supposed to be mine.😢 So thank you for being so giving and not selfish in your passion. 💗

    Also, if you use alcohol in products like this to sell, you cannot ship to customers in the US via air mail or internationally. It must be labeled appropriately and shipped ground only which can be more expensive than first class or priority. I see people breaking all the rules and if caught, the fine is not worth it. Great break down of these ingredients. I cringe when I see people selling witch hazel and essential oils. I call it snake oil.

    I was thinking to make my perfume. Few days plan. Finally found your channel. Just watching and had a good idea. I was so excited and used 70% Isopropyl which I had at home. I mixed with 100% pure coconut oil 1/3 more equivalent. It turned out excellent! ☺️
    Thanks for sharing. On my way to experiment more scents from essential oils.

    I love this video!!! I just wanted to say thank you so much for giving me the right information before I start making my perfumes. I love every beauty product a women can get their hands on but the cost is so high. You spend a lot of money of perfumes that take a toll on your skin. Our skin is also an organ which many people don't know or forget. I am so excited to start making my own organic perfumes so I may smell nice without the damage to my skin. You are so amazing for doing this!!!!

      Goooooood evening, Oscar Castellanos, and welcome to the community! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 We pray this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in excellent health! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
      To answer your question as to which alcohol creates the LEAST change in the original formulated scent would be, in my opinion, 200 Proof Perfumer's Alcohol. Second would be be the 189 Proof Everclear or Club 190. Because the consumption alcohols are legal to drink, they do not carry the denaturants necessary for a perfumers alcohol to keep the taxes down. Despite the PA having some denaturant in it, it is slight and undetectable... and it's cheaper without sacrifice of quality.
      I hope this was helpful and that you and your loved ones have an absolutely LOVELY day! 🌞🌞🌞

    Excellent demonstration and information. There is a low enough water content in the isopropyl alcohol, so that the oils will dissolve in it because the alcohol portion of the mixture is high enough to make the oils fully miscible. However, that smell that you mentioned is from the compounds they use to 'denature' the alcohol, or make it bitter so it will not be consumed by humans or animals. They use things like castor oil and wintergreen oil to do this, and the combination of these and some other toxic additives are what give 'rubbing alcohol' it's distinct odor. Perfumers' alcohol blends are denatured with many different things as well, namely bitrex.

    I’m so glad you visualized this! It’s definitely helpful. I’ve made some with medical alcohol but the alcohol smell certainly has an effect. It’s not impossible to work with but you definitely have to take its own scent in consideration. I’ll give everclear or perfumers alcohol a try, at least to smell the difference for my own blends.

      Have you checked to see if EverClear is sold in your state? That is what I usually used until my store no longer carried it, but instead was selling Club 190. You could also order perfumer's alcohol which is a lot cheaper due to it not having the alcohol tax added onto it.
      I currently don't sell my perfumes, but have thought about it. 🌸 💮 🏵️ It's something I may do in the very near future. Or maybe write a formulation book since I'm technically an author.

    Great Job this is very informative, I just purchased my essential oils as this will be my hobby going forward.
    I have some very expensive parfumes, edt, and the like; that after I become just decent In my perfume making I will give away the cologne's I have.
    I have some nice fragrances like Bond No 9 products, Tom Ford, Chanel Blu, Allure, and many other top cologne's.
    Giving them away will be my motivation to recreate my own unique brands I am very excited.
    After seeing this, I only will use Everclear, or Perfume Alcohol for my creations.
    Peace n Happiness.

    As a geochemistry PhD student, I love this video. It's a great demo that shows miscibility.
    I do have a question. I am just about to start experimenting making perfumes. I want to use whiskeys like smokey scotch or bourbon and rum. What ratio would you suggest to carrier alcohol and essential oils? Thanks!!!

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much, Jono, for your lovely comment! Wishing you and your loved ones all the very best and hoping you stay safe and healthy all year long! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
      As for your question... and a very good one, at that... using whiskeys, scotch, bourbons, and rum are excellent additons to a fragrance. Just keep in mind the ratio of alcohol to water and mix it with the higher grain alcohol such as Everclear or Club 190, or you can use the perfumer's Alcohol that is 200 Proof which will allow you to use a little more of the whiskeys, bourbons and such when decorating your fragrance. Commercial fragrances will use up to 25% distilled water depending on the materials, and their miscibility, used to craft the fragrance concentrate. These highly aromatic alcohols do add an amazing depth to final fragrances, at least, in my opinion. I think this is a great topic to cover in a future video to showcase exactly how you can use these fragrant alcohols in a personal fragrance that is unique to your vision. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
      I can imagine using these alcohols as a base for tincturing, too. Oh the possibilites! You have my creative mind going!!! LOL :-)
      Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas and allowing us to become a part of your fragrance journey!

    I enjoyed your tutorial very much.
    I do have one thing to add, however.
    When a bottle of alchohol, which is made for beverages; the "Proof", indicated will always be TWICE the percentage of the alcohol content.
    For example, 151 Rum is 75 and one half percent alcohol. Since the ingredients of any given liquid, or substance, can not go over 100 percent, which is it's entirety.
    Like the perfumes you are demonstrating, ingredients must be measure and added carefully to the formula, so that we can insure our results are consistent and repeatable later.
    Thank you. I will look forward to more lessons. You are a good teach.

    Hi hello! Thank you so much for this video. I'm just beginning my DIY fragrance journey, and I made a batch with 40% alcohol last night . . . turned out like your vodka sample haha. Wish I had watched this video first.
    Anyway, I want to try again, and I will be going to pick up some Everclear this afternoon! However, I do have a question. The batch I made last night used Mezcal (80 proof) as the alcohol; I used Mezcal because I love the smoky smell, but
    1. It obviously wasn't high enough proof for the EOs to be miscible.
    2. The smoky smell was WAY too overpowering and buried the EOs.
    That being said, when I try again with Everclear, can I still add a small amount of Mezcal in order to introduce that scent? Will it properly mix? And what would you suggest for ratios? For example, would something like 75% Everclear, 15% EOs, 5% Mezcal, 5% Water work?
    Thanks! Stuart

    thanks so much for sharing this knowledge with everyone like this. I was going to make some perfume using my jasmine which isn't cheap with isoprop but am glad i watched this first so not to waste my jasmine. The price of perfumers alcohol is not too high so why not use it. For now i'm going to probably just make a solid perfume until I get some.

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Truly my pleasure, Ophelia! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 Solid fragrances are just as lovely, in my opinion! You should check out Creating Perfume's website for their Jasmine wax that is the wax left over from extraction when creating a jasmine absolute. OMG... IT IS GORGEOUS! I should do another video on it.
      But, you would need VERY VERY little Jasmine Absolute in your solid fragrance because the essence of the jasmine petals are left in the jasmine wax. I believe you would fall in LOVE with it. AND, it's CHEAP! I actually added the wax to perfumer's alcohol and shook the heck out of it. I let it set for a week and the wax separated and settled to the bottom. What was left was a VERY strong Jasmine perfume. I'm telling you, that is a little kept secret... I just may have to talk about that this Monday on our Live Stream! THANK YOU for the idea! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

      Truly my pleasure, Manny. Thank you for watching and allowing us to be a part of your fragrance journey. Might I suggest using DPG for fine fragrance as it is used in all commercial fragrances due to its miscible properties in alcohol and water. Hi Alora,
    Thank you for doing this. It really answered a lot of questions I wasn't getting on google searches. So everclear and perfumers alcohol are the best to mix, but what would the result be if you used a 95% - 190proof moonshine?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truly my pleasure James Pershing, and welcome to the community 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜
      If Moonshine is definitely 190 Proof (95%) alcohol, you are GOOD TO GO! 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜 Moonshine sold in our spirits store is not that strong. But if you know of someone who can make moonshine via distilling, then I say GO for it 🌼 🌺 🌸 💮 🏵️ There is a way to test the alcohol to make sure that it is, in fact, a higher percentage of alcohol. Most folks who do alcohol distilling have the buoyant checker thingy. 😁 😋 😁 😋 😁 😋

    Hello, Alora!. Thank you so much for the video. It is very informative.
    Could you please tell me what is going to happen if you mix the same mount of essential oil with the same amount of 70% Ethyl Alcohol? Is the oil going to dissolve well in the alcohol?
    Thank you!

      Goooooooooood morning, IS MZ, and thank you so much for joining us. I hope this message finds you and your loved ones in good health ❤️
      Excellent question. First, you would want to see what your essential oil is soluble in. To do this, you can head over to TGSC (www.thegoodscentscompany.com/search2.html) and do a search on your oil.
      Once you find your ingredient, click on it and a new window will pop up. If you look to the right of the page, you should see something like this:
      Soluble in:
      alcohol
      fixed oils
      paraffin oil
      water, 42.87 mg/L @ 25 °C (est)
      Insoluble in:
      water
      glycerin
      The information above came from a search on Patchouli Oil / CAS# 8014-09-3.
      Generally, all natural essential and absolute oils are soluble in 95 - 100% Ethyl Alcohol with no beading or clouding of the product. I've tested at 87% and it looked okay. You could, technically, only add enough Essential oil that will get diluted in the alcohol portion of the 70% Ethyl Alcohol. I was able to successfully dilute 1 drop of Cassia Bark Essential oil into 10 ML of Witch Hazel which has 14% alcohol and 86% distilled water. That 14% was enough to dilute one drop of essential oil... but not 2. The final product was starting to cloud and some beading occurred.
      So, my suggestion is to add one drop at a time, shake and annotate your findings for each Essential Oil you have. Because, due to the alcohol content, SOME essential oil gets mixed. I have, in the past, when using vodka, would add my oil... shake it like mad, then let it sit for a day or two. The oil that did not get mixed would sit at the bottom of my vial making it easy to siphon off the top the alcohol/distilled water / essential oil that DID get dissolved. Then, repeat the process until I had all the oil dissolved. :-)
      Hope all that makes sense and that it helps.
      I hope you have a LOVEY day making masterpieces through scent.
      Many huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs being SCENT your way!

    Hello, I really enjoyed the video! If I was to use the club 190 with an essential oil, would this be considered a "natural perfume or mist?" Healthy to breathe in if you spray it around your home?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Goooooooooooooood morning, Alexia Ousley and welcome to the community! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 I hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health.🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
      I am extremely grateful that you enjoyed the video! 🤗🤗🤗 To answer your question, it depends on the supplier of your essential oils. Make sure that the Essential Oil supplier is 100% natural or (Aromatherapy Grade) so that when you blend it with the alcohol, you will have a nice room spray that is safe for your family. HOWEVER... be sure to dilute your essential oils to a very high alcohol ratio so that when you spray, the essential oil will be finely dispersed within the mist and not fall so heavily onto your furniture which can cause damage to your things. Essential oils are able to eat away at furniture polish, varnish and even wax on the floor or hardwood floor coatings. They can also stain, depending on the Essential Oil used, fabrics on your cushions. So, my suggestion is to spray pillows designated for freshening your space... or blankets and curtains that you don't mind washing over and over when the color becomes dull. Also, another great tip is to make sure you have an area rug over hardwood floors when spraying Natural Room sprays because Essential Oils are very strong chemicals. This is why they should NEVER be worn neat on the skin.
      If you are looking to make a perfume to wear on your skin, make sure you DILUTE your Essential Oils to no more than 10% to 90% alcohol. If you are using restricted Essential Oils such as Clove, Cinnamon, Nutmet, or even the bark oil I used in this video... BE SURE to dilute to LESS than 1%! They are THAT strong and can be very harmful on the skin in higher doses.
      Contrary to popular belief, Essential Oils ARE CHEMICALS... they are NATURE's CHEMICALS just like our bodies are filled with Chemicals, too. And they should be used with caution.
      Okay.... I hope this was helpful and please forgive me if it felt like I was preaching at the end... I just want to make sure you are safe. Have an absolutely GORGEOUS day!🌞🌞🌞

    Very interesting! I landed here by chance (watching a BBC documentary about perfume) but I always enjoy learning "practical science" stuff like that. I do have a question though: if I dissolve the oils in alcohol and then add the mixture to something else (let's say I want to make a diy cleaning product nicer smelling) will the oil separate again? Or does it somehow "bond" with the alkohol molecules and stays dissolved? Thanks alot and have a lovely day!

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gooooooooood afternoon, Rara Avis, and welcome to the community. We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health. 😍🌼🤗
      That's an EXCELLENT question! If you dissolve your fragrance in Alcohol, will the oil eventually separate if added to a cleaning product that is not miscible with oil? With my experience, the oil will separate from the mixture if a non miscible ingredient is added later or, at the very least, will cause cloudiness. This will only happen when the threshold has been reached for the alcohol and oil bonds to be weakened due to the water being present. However, it's still okay to shake your mixture before use if you are using it for cleaning purposes. The fragrance is SOOOOO minute that it will most likely disperse evenly with each use. Again, you can shake before each use to ensure this. ❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜
      There are also a lot of DIYers who don't mind the beading of fragrance oil when mixed with Vodka or other non-miscible ingredients and will shake the mixture before each spritz. The only difference here is that there is more water (which is what causes the separation), less alcohol... but the same amount of fragrance. So... shaking and spritzing is perfectly fine if you are using this for your own personal use and don't mind the additional step. 😊😊😊
      I hope this was helpful and thank you, again, soooooo much for joining us! 💓💓💓💓

      Gooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon, A_nDinG, and thank you soooooooo much for joining the community. ❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜 We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      You are absolutely correct. Most of the time, oil is lighter than water, especially when dealing with fattier oils that we cook with. But with essential oils, some oils, like the one I used in the video, are more dense and heavier than water. When steam distilling, the hydrosol will either be at the bottom of the separation funnel or on the top. Cassia Bark is one of those oils that would be at the bottom of the separation funnel and the hydrosol on the top. 🌻 🌼 🌺 🌸 💮 🏵️
      My understanding of why some oils are denser when distilling is that they are made up of heavier, molecular materials that come mostly from twigs, bark, stems and other heavier materials. But when distilling more of a "vegetative aromatic material" like petals, the oil will be much lighter and will float. 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
      So... what I SHOULD have said is "Water and oil don't mix, rather, they will separate. Depending on the density of the oil will determine if it will float or sink." 😁 🙃😁 🙃😁 🙃
      Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for pointing this out! You ROCK! 🤗🤗🤗

      Gooooooooood morning, raj kamal, and welcome to the community! 😘😘😘 We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗 My apologies in my delay.
      You have SEVERAL wonderful questions. 🤗🤗🤗
      Depending on the type off Essential Oil or ingredient used and at what concentrate of Fragrance Concentrate you use in your final blend will determine if a fragrance will stain your clothes. Most, if blended properly, will not do so. However, it is ALWAYS a good practice to take a few white samples of cloth such as Silk, Cotton and Linen and spray your final product blend on each one to see if they will cause a stain. 🌼🌼🌼 Again, this was an EXCELLENT question!
      You can make professional grade fragrances quite easily from your home by choosing the highest quality of PROFESSIONAL ingredients. You can find a HUGE list of ingredients used in the perfuming industry, here: ifraorg.org/en-us/ingredients Currently, there are 3,999 ingredients listed by IFRA Org that have been tested and either approved for use, restricted, prohibited or contain Specifications for use. You are absolutely correct, BluBun Animationz. 🤗🤗🤗 Too much water will cause the fragrance to cloud up due to the water and oil not being miscible. There has to be enough ethanol grain alcohol in the solution to dissolve the oils.

    hi, have you ever heard of DMSO? in the US they will not label it a drug but over 1000 documented medical studies conflict with what FDA is claiming . its labeled a solvent only and works great on the body and is said to be able to bread down other drugs without compromise them and its also fastest substance known to pass through our skin. have ever tried using that? its not alcohol based but might still work IDK just a thought.

      I have heard of DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide) but have never used it as a solvent. I believe that since it is an oxidizing chemical, it wouldn't be an ideal carrier for fragrance since we are wanting to prevent our formulas from oxidizing the best we can.
      But I love that you are thinking about the possibilities! It goes to show you are a forward kind of thinker and that's AWESOME in this industry 🤗 🤗 🤗

      The most cost effective way of making perfume would be to use Perfumer's Alcohol. However, if you cannot acquire perfumer's alcohol, then isopropyl myristate for spritz type fragrances or fractionated coconut oil for roll-on fragrances.

    There's a way around it with the isopropyl alcohol whatever scent you plan on using...your base note like citrus, for example, you can keep the peels in your alcohol and it helps it blend better, same goes for exotic scents or herbal ones. Fair warning there will be a bit of color in it after.

It SUCKED the color out of the rind and my tincture is indeed ORANGE! LOL... but it smells divine! I would NEVER be able to spray it on my clothes as it would stain them. But... it was really cool making these tinctures. I did one with Basil and another one with Rosemary. The rosemary was INCREDIBLE. The basil, I think I need to add more leaves. 🍃🍃🍃🍃

      For fine fragrance, you will want to use Perfumers Grade 200 Proof Grain Alcohol. However, you can also work with ETHYL SPIRUS 95% which is close to Everclear. And of course, IPM or IsoPropyl Myristate which can be found at CreatingPerfume.com You should ask Susan about her new Natural Carrier called TEC.

    I couldn't tell from the video but at the end was the 190 equally clear as the perfumers alcohol? I know initially you said the perfumers alcohol was clearer, but at the end of the video they looked equal but i couldnt tell. Trying to decide if I need to buy PA or if 190 would work.

      Believe it or not, Perfumer's Alcohol is a LOT cheaper than Ever Clear or Club 190 and the Perfumer's Alcohol is 200 Proof which will allow you more control over the overall water content in your final product.

    Hey Alora! Happy new years!
    Wanted to know if you make perfumes with other alternatives like Cyclomethicone , Carrier oils or Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride for those Roll On perfumes some people use. Have you used this? Do you have a videoon it?! Or would you please make one if you had the knowledge of it!

      Gooooooooooooood evening, JiniusBeauty HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your loved ones as well!!!! 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗 You are absolutely a sweetheart! 💗💗💗💗💗
      The only alternatives I use for making body oil are IsoPropyl Myristate (IPM) or Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO). Cyclomethicone, I believe, is like a silicone based ingredient used in hair products to help tame the curls and frizz. But it's also an emollient and humectant, so... I don't see why it couldn't be used unless it has dampening properties or it does not mix with the ingredients. I've never actually tried it.
      If you get a chance to try it out, PLEASE let me know how your experiments turn out as I would love to share your knowledge and results with the viewers! 😍😍😍😍😍
      I hope you have a SUPER LOVELY DAY and please keep me posted!!! I'm excited to know how it all turns out!!! 😍 🌸 🤗 😍 🌸 🤗

  • @jessicajessie1849

    Hi. Thank you for making this video, the information is very useful. I'm making my own perfume with essential oils, I was not able to locate EverClear/Club 190 or Perfumer's Alcohol here in FL, do you think it would be okay to make it using EverClear 75.5%/ Vol (151 Proof)?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Goooooooooood morning, Jessica Nurse. We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      Everclear 75.5% has 24.5% water which is WAY over the limit of water to alcohol for a fine fragrance. My suggestion is to give it a try. Shake it extremely well and then let the mixture separate. If the Essential oil rises to the top, siphon it off using a syringe until all that is left is the alcohol mixture. Shake the bottle again and let it sit. Siphon off the top if there is any additional separation. Keep doing this until you have no more separation.
      If you have heavier oils like I had in this video, that oil will drop to the bottom. Therefore, you would want to siphon off the alcohol mixture from the top and place it in a different vial or container before shaking it and waiting to see if more oil settles to the bottom. Repeat the process until no more separation occurs.
      Once you have no more separation, I would say your fragrance is good to go. However, you will have a lot of water in your mixture. So, be sure to keep it well sealed and place it in the fridge. Check for any bacterial growth. If you find any, cease usage and blend a new one. 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜
      I hope this was helpful and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🌷 🌹 🌷 🌹 🌷 🌹 🌷 🌹

    Thanks! This is helpful. I think I'd use the perfumer's alcohol. But if I want to make a room spray instead and not perfume (so, less fragrant), what percentage or ratios should I use oil:alcohol:distilledwater? Or should I use pure alcohol still?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gooooooood afternoon, Iflip Over... My apologies for the late response. It's been a crazy week at work as well as dealing with my daughter's numerous school activities. I hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      Room sprays are blended differently than fine fragrances. Plus, the presentation of what it looks like in the bottle is not important. Especially if you are making it for your own home. 🌺 🌸 💮
      Room sprays can use Vodka and Essential Oils or Aroma Chemicals and all you need to do is shake it like crazy just before spraying. I would make smaller batches in order to protect the EO's from developing bacteria. Or, you can use witch hazel. Whichever you prefer. 😊😊😊
      Percentage wise, you can go with 3% to 5% Fragrance Concentrate to 95% to 97% Carrier (Vodka or Witch Hazel). Again, be sure to shake it like crazy before you spray. And if you have a dark bottle you can keep it in, all the better. 💚 💙 💜
      I hope this was helpful. Also, have an absolutely WONDERFUL weekend!

      Thanks for the info. I usually find formulations for room sprays using distilled water as the carrier (majority). And I'm guessing it's because alcohol is too strong and would be more like a perfume rather than just a room or linen spray. Thanks again!

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly!!! 😍 🌸 🤗 Alcohol is more or less meant to dissipate so that only the fragrance is left on the skin... also, it helps give LIFT to heavy molecules.
      But with natural room sprays, it's not designed to go on the skin and the fragrance tends to fall in beads and lands on carpets, furniture or even drapes and curtains.
      Alternatives to atomizing room sprays are Reeds that release the molecules over time. Also, you can make potpourri which tends to last a lot longer in a room AND gets dispersed over time. You can impregnate the potpourri with your favorite fragrance and then recharge it when the fragrance starts to lose its potency. Also, using sachets or even handkerchiefs that are scented placed inside decorative pillows also can help a fragrance last longer in a room. 😊 😋

    Hey Alora, Thank you so much for sharing this informative video with us. After watching this i have one question in my mind that can we use Dipropylene glycol (DPG) or Water Solvent (WS) or Propylene Glycol (PG) to make percentage of oils instead of Alcohol or these 3 solvents make oil blurr (Cloudy)?, Please help me out in this if you know any thing about this.
    Thank you

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gooooooooooood afternoon, zafar ullah. My apologies for the delayed response. I hope you and your loved ones are doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      DPG is normally used in cutting ingredients to proper levels. However, I suggest using IPM (Isopropyl Myristate) instead as DPG can be very dampening to the molecules. I've never heard of a Water Solvent for perfumery unless you are speaking of using an emulsifier? These, unfortunately, require your ingredients to be overly diluted and also weaken the final product. Propylene Glycol is used in Vaping and similar to DPG in that it dampens ingredients.
      When I dilute professional ingredients, I use IsoPropyl Myristate (IPM), TriEthyl Citrate (TEC) for naturals and Augeo Clean for stubborn ingredients such as crystals and powders. Although, TEC is proving to be a better diluent than Augeo Clean for resins, powders and crystals. However, if all you have is DPG, then I suggest using it and build your formula based on knowing you will be using DPG as your final product's carrier.
      If you have cloudiness in your final product, try taking placing it in the freezer for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then, filter it through a high grade qualitative paper filter (I use medium 9 CM rounds) or a coffee filter to help clear it up. I only ever use Alcohol as my final carrier, so filtering it is relatively easier compared to other diluents due to it's lower level of viscosity. Thicker dilutents, such as IPM, TEC, DPG, PG, Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO), and Augeo Clean, may take longer to filter to a clearer finished product. 😊😊😊😊😊
      Please keep me posted on how this works out! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
      I hope this was helpful and that you have a SUPER LOVELY day! 🌨️🌞🌨️

      Certainly, @MyBob369 ! Ethanol 96%, as long as it's pure, is commonly used in DIY perfumery. It's a good carrier for fragrances due to its high purity, ensuring the true essence of the scent shines through. Again, just make sure if it's denatured, that it's safe for the skin. Very informative. Can capryl glucoside make them more miscible with vodka or grain alcohol. Like 0.5% to 2%?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Goooooooooooood morning, Srikanth Santhanam ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      Capryl Glucoside (Caprylyl) is, to my understanding, a surfactant that is used as a cleansing agent that foams which, of course, would not be desirable in your fragrance.😀😀😀 Unless, of course, that is what you are going for. 😀😀😀
      Polysorbate-20 is also a surfactant, but... it's a non-foaming emulsifier and solubilizing agent that can help water and oil "bond" due to its molecules containing a hydro (water) loving end and a lipid (oil) loving end. The only downfall to this is that you need a LOT of Polysorbate-20 to water in order to make the fragrance miscible. And then, the most fragrance you can use is 5%. This is another reason why it's used in products that contain less than 5% fragrance such as creams, shampoos and such. But, not Fine Fragrance. 😊😊😊
      Also, when you use water in your products at higher levels, you will have to use a preservative of some sort so that the fragrance will not spoil due to unwanted bacteria that breed when water is around. 😜😜😜
      Ethanol Grain Alcohol is NATURAL and can be used in making natural products. It doesn't attract unwanted bacteria and it doesn't need any additional preservatives. If a person wishes to make an alternative fragrance using natural carriers, then fractionated coconut oil or triethyl citrate natural are perfect alternatives without having to use any additional ingredients other than the fragrance concentrate.🌸 💮 🏵️
      If you are okay with using synthetics, then IsoPropyl Myristate is the perfect alternative to using alcohol and is used throughout the Middle Eastern countries as a substitute.❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜
      I hope this was helpful and that you have a SUPER DUPER lovely day! 🌹🌺🍁🌹🌺🍁

    If you have a good essential oil blend and use perfumer's alcohol, how long will the fragrance actually last after you put it on? will it last at least for a few hours during the day?

    • @AloraDillon
      @AloraDillon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Goooooooooood afternoon, Jessica James I hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      The longevity of your fragrance composition is based on the ingredients you use to build it. If you are using more citrus notes with minimal fixative ingredients, such as woods, balsams, musks, etc, then your fragrance will only last for the life of the ingredients based on their volatility rate. Citrus notes are exceptionally volatile and do not last very long on the skin. However, floral notes can last anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours. Vanilla can last all day. And some woods can last months.
      So, when asked how long will your fragrance last, the answer is: for as long as the ingredients’ volatility rate.
      I hope this was helpful and that you have an absolutely GORGEOUS day! 🌞🌞🌞

      Thank you, @kimberlyg-fulton6571 for the lovely comment! 😍😍😍😍😍
      If you want to create a fragrance roll on, I would suggest diluting your Fragrance Concentrate into a carrier base designed for roll on fragrances. For example, you could use Fractionated Coconut Oil or Jojoba Oil. I personally like to use IPM and DPG combo since IPM is a skin softener used in skincare and DPG is perfect for bonding with the aroma ingredients in the fragrance concentrate. You could also add Fractionated Coconut Oil to that mix and vitamin E as a preservative.
      I hope this helps and thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your fragrance journey! 😍😍😍😍😍

    Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful. One question: I’m wanting to make room & linen spray. I use 100% undiluted fragrance oils. What’s the actual recipe to make this room spray with perfumers alcohol? Is it just the alcohol and fragrance? Or do I still need to use distilled water? And what fragrance oil percentage do I use? Thanks

      Gooooooooooood evening, Mirna Cherkawe, and welcome to the community. 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼 We hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health! 😍 🌸 🤗
      Linen/Room sprays can be made with Perfumer's alcohol/Distilled Water/Fragrance Concentrate.
      Normally, you don't need a large amount of fragrance concentrate in your final Linen or Room Spray product. No more than 5%. However, that's if you are using an actual undiluted fragrance concentrate. A lot of fragrance oils on the market are diluted so heavily that they don't perform well at these levels. Also, if you have a fragrance oil that was diluted with a Fixed Carrier (Fatty oils such as Jojoba, Almond, Sunflower, Olive, etc), then you will see a separation in your final product. This is a sure sign that your fragrance oil is NOT 100% full concentrate.
      My suggestion for your Room Spray or Linen Spray would be:
      80% Perfumer's Alcohol, 15% Distilled Water and 5% Fragrance Concentrate.
      I would HIGHLY suggest making SMALL batches since it does contain a LOT of water with no preservative.
      To prevent having to use a preservative, you can compound your fragrance concentrate at 5% with 95% 200 Proof Perfumer's Alcohol. 😍😍😍
      I hope this was helpful and that you have an absolutely GORGEOUS day! 🌞🌞🌞

    Thank you for this video! Will this process work if I have the pure perfume oil?
    When I put it on my skin it actually burnt me. Could I dilute it using this process?

      Goooooooood day, Joy, and welcome to the community! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 I hope this message finds you and your loved ones doing well and in good health.🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
      I am terribly sorry that you experienced getting burned by the fragrance oil that you had. Pure perfume oil can be harmful if it was not designed for the skin. For example, the perfume oil that you have in your possession could have possibly been designed for candles, potpourri or even incense cones or reed diffusers. If this is the case, then this fragrance was never meant to be used on the skin. All perfume oils that are designed FOR the skin should have from the manufacturer that they were designed for this purpose AND at what levels of dilution they should be cut to in order to create a final product.
      Please double check that the pure perfume oil that you have is safe for the skin. And if so, then YES... this dilution process using Club 190, Everclear or perfumer's grade alcohol will work beautifully with your Fragrance Oil.
      Please, please, please let me know how it all works out, Sweetie, and if you would like to get really nice perfume oils that are safe for the skin, you can look at Save on Scents website. They have over 3000 different fragrance oils all designed for the skin and that can be blended in an oil based carrier such as Fractionated Coconut Oil to create a body oil roll on, or in Perfumer's grade alcohol for a fine fragrance spray.
      I hope this was helpful and I'm looking forward to your response!
      Have an absolutely GORGEOUS day!🌞🌞🌞

      Alora Dillon thank you so much for your lovely reply.💓 I will certainly look into whether it was designed for the human skin. It’s suppose to be like a “knock-off” to a real perfume oil. I’ll call the company and get better details. As for the fragrance site you suggested I will definitely be visiting it today! I’ve always been fascinated by making perfume an I’m ready to give it a try! Thank you again and will keep you posted on my results. Have a beautiful day.💓

    Great video but I don't know anything about the municipal once. Which one is the best to mix the essential oils with that doesn't take away the shelf life of the essential oil and great for skin? Is it so bad that you have to shake your perfume before you use it? Thanks!

    • @AloraDillon

      Goooooooooooooooooooooood morning, TigerWild, and welcome to the community! I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well and are in good health! 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜
      Thank you for your kind comment 😍😍😍
      Essential oils are volatile, meaning, they evaporate rather quickly. They also do not mix well with water. So, my suggestion is to use a carrier that most essential oils can dissolve in, such as Everclear or Perfumer's Alcohol.
      For personal preference, shaking my perfume before use is not a big deal.. however, the majority of fine fragrance wearers like to have their perfumes crystal clear, meaning there is no clouding nor impurities present. And of course, if you plan to sell the fragrance, it might be difficult convincing a purchaser that the perfume isn't bad when they see a line of separation. You also run into the issue that water, without the right additives, will cause your perfume to spoil quicker due to it's bacteria loving properties. Alcohol does not.
      At the end of the day, it's about what YOU want, are willing to put up with and how often you plan to make new batches. If you don't mind making a new batch each month and are willing to keep your perfume in a refrigerator, then go with water and shake the heck out of it before spritzing. Otherwise, I suggest using a high quality grain alcohol designed for perfumery to prolong the shelf life of your perfume as well as dilute the oils completely. And if you REALLY are picky about the look of your fragrance, stick your final fragrance (alcohol and oil mixture - NOT WATER as it will freeze) into the freezer for an hour and then filter it through a coffee filter that is saturated with perfumers alcohol. The result will be a pristine, fog-free fragrance. 🤗🤗🤗
      If you are located in the U.S., then Perfumer's Alcohol can be acquired by creatingperfume.com/perfumealcohol.aspx.
      However, if you live in the U.K., Pellwall.com can supply you.
      If you live in Canada, botanicplanet.ca/perfume-solubilizer-liquid-3708 has it.
      If you live elsewhere, let me know and I will do my best to help you find a supplier. However, in the meantime, Everclear works best or 189 proof grain alcohol.
      I hope this was helpful 😀😀😀

      I think I'm going to go with Everclear but I have questions. I know all alcohols and all liquor alcohol's also have an odor. So my question is how much does it change the scent of the essential oils like if it was a slight sent that's not real offensive to those with sensitive or heightened sense of smell, or something men can use? Also is this method good for insect repellent? Thank you for that awesome reply, I never had a reply that fantastic, filled with the information I really needed. All I need to do now is figure out how to save the information on my computer. LOL! Thanks again, have a great day!

      Truly my pleasure, TigerWild. I will always do my best to answer your questions 😍😍😍 I hope you and your family are having a lovely weekend.
      As for the Everclear, I can honestly say it was my favored alcohol when diluting my essential oils. It's safe for internal use (LOL- right!!! Cough Cough) so it's safe for the skin and does not contain a denaturant like Perfumer's Alcohol does. However, Perfumers Alcohol is a lot less expensive because it doesn't carry the alcohol tax. But, the trade off is that you have to acquire it with a slight denaturant in it. It's extremely minute, but there nonetheless.
      Liquors such as brandy, cognac, whiskey, and bourbon are not high enough in alcohol content to be usable in a final blend. Neither is Vodka, as the video showed. The ONLY alcohol that is usable in perfume making is one that is 189 or higher proof. At our local market, moonshine is not even that high. Then again, they've never met my grandpa! LOL Distilling alcohol takes two to three rounds of distilling to get it clean and pure. But the highest a distiller can take it naturally is about 95% alcohol to 5% water... chemicals are needed to remove the final 5% of water in order to make a 200 Proof or 100% alcohol for perfumery. But honestly, a little water is perfectly fine to help give your fragrance some sparkle. Not a lot, mind you... just a little. Hence the reason why I LOVE Everclear... it already has the distilled water in it. 🤗 🤗 🤗
      As for changing the odor of your final fragrance, Everclear should be perfectly fine as it's nearly odorless whereas perfumer's alcohol has a slight difference in scent due to the denaturant. However, those with super sniffers will be able to pick up on it. The average sniffer will not. At the end of the day, the job of the alcohol is to one, protect your formula from anything that likes to grow in wet environments since NOTHING grows in pure grain alcohol... two, it gives your fragrance longevity... and three, it's a vehicle, more or less, designed to distribute your fragrance evenly while also getting those molecules spread out so they can start moving. We call this the "fragrance blossoming" effect. Atomizers are perfect for this. And like most perfumes that use pure grain alcohol, the alcohol dissipates rather quickly leaving you with the true scent of your fragrance.
      As always... when creating your final blend, remember that the LAST ingredient is the most important... and that is YOUR SKIN! Each person's chemistry is very different. Hence the reason Molecule 01 is so popular. The ingredient called Iso E Super reacts differently on everyone to the point it doesn't smell like what's in the bottle... and that's if you can smell it at all. There are a LOT of people who cannot detect Iso E Super... and then there are those, such as myself, who can detect it so much so that it's headache inducing.
      Insect repellent... I would say you should use a mixture of say Isopropyl Myrsistate (IPM) and alcohol only so that your fragrance oils have something to adhere to on the skin. Have you ever noticed how when you spray the repellent on your skin, there's a film like an oil? My guess is that it's used to coat the skin in a protective layer that repels insects for a longer period of time. You could try using IPM, other than alcohol, as your carrier. Plus, IPM is used copiously in the cosmetic industry since it's a skin softener. So much so, it will melt the exoskeleton of lice. Therefore, it's perfect for treating lice.
      Wow... I tend to write books when responding. I apologize 😁 🙃😁 🙃
      I hope all this was helpful and that you are enjoying a LOVELY weekend!

      So I should use the Everclear, isopropyl Myrsistate? Will this work with a roll on bottle? I got a small half ounce bottle, so I can keep it in my pocket, and use when needed. No apology needed I appreciate the information! It was awesome! Thanks!

      It's truly my pleasure. 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜
      As for the roll-on, I would suggest Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) as it is the perfect consistency for a roll-on. And, the oil literally has NO scent... even for a super sniffer. So, you can be assured that the fragrance blend you create will not be altered by the carrier. It may soften it, but not alter the scent. Most roll-on type fragrances are about 10% to 15% Fragrance to 85% to 90% FCO.
      Hope this was helpful! 💓 💛 💚 💙 💜
      Have a super lovely day! 😍 🌸 🤗

      Thank you for the suggestion in using a fragrance oil modifier. In fact, I have used one before in order to emulsify my oils in a water base 🤗🤗🤗 This is something I can bring up to viewers if they choose to make a water based product using an emulsifier.
      Do you have a specific product you like and does not weaken your final blend? And what type of preservative do you use to ward off the baddies? LOL We truly appreciate your willingness to share! ❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜

    Hi, this was really helpful but unfortunately I can’t find ever clear nor perfumers alcohol in Nigeria. I tried ethanol, but the alcohol smell just takes away from my formula. It evaporates on the skin but give my perfume a nasty smell in the bottle. What can I do?
