I've typically been spending about $30 a month, and then I saved up for the AllTheAnime Christmas sale which I got 34 movies from for $190. Normally their blu rays go for about $20 each so getting them for around 5-6 dollars each is great tbh. Great Vid :)
Thank you for this video. I’ve been thinking about getting out of this hobby, your spending confirmed my decision. I don’t want to spend money like that anymore
I restarted my physical media collection this year. From zero movies to around 400 blu rays and 4ks. Mostly thrifted and from sales online. I've spent around $800-$1000 so far.
I more or less just started with physical media this year. When I look at all the things I want to have from the past, I'll have to spend a lot in the future
This is wild and such a great idea. So in 2025 I'm gonna make notes and track what I buy just to see how bad it is by year's end. This is gonna be fun.
@ price shouldn’t matter. Are you poor or something? It’s easy to find deals on 4ks and the quality is 100 times better. Only time you gotta pay full price is only limited editions which are amazing and worth it
@@bachtuna Yes price does matter if you're being smart. If I upgrade fully to 4K I'll have to buy a new OLED 4K TV and a 4K player than can play those discs with Dolby vision to really experience the higher quality. Also the difference isn't 100 times better trust me. Blu-ray quality is still higher than 4k streaming due to the higher bit rate from physical media. I'm perfectly fine with Blu-ray quality and the cheaper prices of the discs. Many of your favorite movies and tv shows will never make it to 4k so why upgrade? Are you suggesting to repurchase all my discs again to 4k? It doesn't make any sense I'll take advantage of the cheap prices and continue to build my Blu-ray collection.
Spent around 10k $ for 65% of my items. I live in the Philippines. We dont have physical media here. 35-45% of my money goes to shipping fees, taxes, etc. Like a 35$ movie will cost me around 10-15 dollars in shipping
It was a good year for collecting! 😁 I just started again after a long hiatus. Glad I found your channel and AVA Pop Culture! I think I spent 1200-1500 from November to December.
I don't know how much I spent this year but so far this is what I've bought this year. 369 DVDs, 608 Blu-rays, 61 3D Blu-rays and 169 4K UHD Blu-rays. I'd imagine that I spent around $400CAD because I buy movies to quick flip for what I want and we have 5 Amazon Return stores, 3 Walmart Return stores and 2 Costco Return stores in my hometown and each store offers a $1CAD day and I have bought many discs at a buck a piece and quick flip them for some of them upwards of $15 store credit each.
This year i bought 460 blurays and 4k's, mostly boutique stuff. Around 50 tv series and 10 dvd's. If i add all those up ive spent around 8000 canadian dollars. That is manageable... the problem with me is that i collect videogames too. Spent almost 6k on games + the 8k on movies... i think i need some counseling haha
LOL I have kept every receipt...when I put them together at the end of the year, I'll let you know... I am not sure if it is that much on just movies but if you count my player, speakers, new tv etc it probably is
I like keeping track of movie expenses because it does help keep you accountable for it. Makes you take a look at your spending and make adjustments. I don't know what my tally is at the moment. I do the numbers each month with my Collection updates.
This is a good idea. I need to start keeping track of my Goodwill buys as there's really not a way to track those specifically after the fact. There were two big dates for a majority of my buying this year. That was Amazon Days and Black Friday. Quick glance, I'm looking at around $850 including my Panasonic UB820. I'll typically go to Goodwill once a week. I'd average I buy at least one movie per visit, meaning that'd be an additional $200 or so, so that puts me easily over the 1K mark this year. Man, now I feel kinda guilty...
I honestly keep ZERO track of what I spend on the hobby. If I have funds to spend towards it, I spend. If I don't, I don't. Sometimes I miss out on stuff with that method, but I'm trying to track myself better in 2025.
I buy from several site (never from brick and mortar stores anymore). I buy TV series too. I don't have prices, but every "order" has physical media in it. I have placed 498 orders in 2024. There were, at least, 600 titles purchased from Amazon alone. I have a problem.
Damn my man.. makes me question how much I’ve spent myself, but I dont really want to know now lol I’m at around 1,000 blurays and 4ks, no DVDs. Im keeping track next year for sure. Thinking about sticking to a monthly budget.
I spent around $5k last yr. After buying my New Pioneer 4k player , I see 2025 being a expensive yr for me , Having my new home with dedicated home theatre built and a lot more room to store my 4ks 👌👌👌👌👌
With all the titles I got this year plus getting stuff from a friend that passed. I got over 799 ish titles. I spent at least over 9-11k this year. I post on Reddit every year about all the titles I got. I buy really hard and OOP titles/boxsets etc.

I spent around $2,538. Thats not counting what i bought at local shops, which wasnt much. But this surprised me. I feel like i should spend less next year but... who knows! Lol
loving all these movie ideas your doing. I did not keep track of my spending this year, but I will do this for next year. If I had to guess I would say I spend around 1500 just from a basic tallying up from my memory. A bulk of that spending came from buying used movies.

I collect Blu-ray and pay $1-3 per disc. Started collecting seriously 4 months ago and have about 500 so far. I've spent less than $600 for all.
Embarrassing to buy blu rays and not 4k
@bachtuna Not when you factor in price. I paid $1 for 95% of all my Blu-ray discs. I can pickup 100 Blu-ray discs for the price of 10 4k discs.
Cheapest Blu-rays in my area are about $6. You're lucky!
