You hit the nail on the head buddy… too many people who are not qualified all of a sudden becoming A/V experts because a company sent them a free copy or because they want something EXCITING to put on their thumbnail…
I havent watched mine yet... I think the bluray looks good, no need to bash it to talk about how good the 4k looks...that being said, the BluRay, to me, from your side-by-side, has a very "digitally shot look" to it... Id stake money that it was digitally sharpened (not dnr but sharpened) the 4k looks more "filmic" soft and creamy while retaining detail...you also have to remember that IF you watch a bluray on a 4k player, it will UPSCALE that bluray and make it look better which can artificially close the gap between the two... as far as dark and light, that is hard because the variations, as you mentioned (and we talked about for hours lol), in people's tvs....I for one am not as big of a fan of the digital look of the bluray with added sharpening and the blown out highlights that lose detail (that scene with the smoke on the ground is one big blown highlight to me that lost detail - you can tell they had lights under the smoke and on the bluray it just becomes a big ball of light the 4k retains more detail and natural smoke look BUT I am a bigger fan of the color grade on the bluray- by a lot! It is a taste thing...to me, the 4k looks like someone shot on film the way film is supposed to look and the bluray kinda looks like someone shot it on digital - which will never be as good to me as film lol....they should have used the same color as the bluray though!
I never thought of that, you would know since you are also a filmmaker, let me ask you a question, I don't have a 4K TV, just an older hi-def set from like 8 years ago, is it still worth purchasing 4K's over the Blu-Ray? Will I see a difference. I currently own about 104K's, mainly for the bonus features.
For me at least, it all comes down to the setup you are viewing on. If I watch some 4ks on my oled in my office, it can look darker than when I watch on my 150 inch screen / projector...where some movies look so much more vibrant on the projector to me, than the TV...which is an HDR thing i believe. But who knows, either way I always appreciate someone doing a side by side like this. That old blu ray was great when I watched it last too.
On 100%! It’s all about the set up & how that set up is calibrated. Yea 4ks looks different in my main tv vs the 1 in my office or bedroom 🤷🏼♂️ only 1 of my tvs is properly calibrated though.
Not to discredit the points made, but I highly doubt these 4k screenshots are even with HDR enabled let alone with Dolby Vision. Screenshot by screenshot itself isn't that fair of a comparison when comparing video in motion with higher bitrate versus a lower bitrate. If your TV, player, and sound system don't support HDR, Dolby Vision, and Atmos standards you are going to have a subpar experience with this disc.
@@SkronkJappleson ya I was wondering the same thing. I got my copy and noticed a big jump in quality. I agree the Bluray is getting some heavy criticism, but the 4k is in another league. Granted, I'm using a Sony A95L with my UBP-X800M2 .
Ok to really evaluate the images we need to know how you’re capturing the side by sides. Are they being rendered on a 4K screen and captured with a 4K camera? When you were running the images in slow motion the 4K image seemed much more blurry then what I see on a full screen image. Not questioning your method but the details might explain some of the inconsistencies that I am seeing. It almost looks like these were being played back via a MKV rip and rendered on a computer that is having a hard time displaying the images (FYI I’m watch TH-cam on my 4k 65” TV that I also watch my movies one so maybe I’m seeing something different than others.)
What’s the sound like compared to the blu ray ? Not many talk about the sound. Has it got Atmos ? Or has it been remastered ? It’s not all about the picture .
Honestly I don’t have a sound Susan I can really speak on that. But I’ve heard the sound is amazing! It’s sounded good on my tv but I don’t notice sound quality that well lol. It does have an original lossless DTS 5.1 & Dolby Atomos
I have noticed a lot of 4ks are darker and you can’t see certain scenes as clear or sharp as you can on Blu Ray . Seeing them side by side I prefer the Blu Ray
@HomeCinemaEnthusiast, I was thinking the same thing. There were a couple of scenes where the 4K looked a tad better, but my money is on the BluRay. Guess that means Arrow wouldn’t send me a free copy if I started a channel. No biggie there. I would rather buy what I want to buy and not have to shill for it and tear the BluRay down to get it… Thank you, @LastMovieStanding, for giving us the straight truth without any spin and for coming with the receipts. It’s a refreshing bit of fresh air after the total spin of the other three. I like Ken, but I have to question when he last watched his BluRay to say the 4K is superior. But I wouldn’t be able to hold my head up high if I had been the TH-camr who said the 4K “obliterates” the BluRay with a straight face. After you brought the receipts, it’s as a clear as a 4K he was being hyperbolic-and was just plain full of BS! Keep up the great work, man.
The lack of knowledge from you and this reviewer is incredible. SDR content is mastered at 100 nits because it is suppose to be displayed in a dark room. But most people watch it at 200 or 300 nits depending of the settings of their tvs. That's why it might look brighter than HDR in some cases. You can raise the light output of your tv while watching SDR but not in HDR because the dynamic range is fixed in the content and unless you manipulate de EOTF if there's a scene at 50 nits it's going to be display like that. Sometimes creators decide to master their movies at low nits in HDR. The idea is that the movie has to look at its best in a dark room environment like in the cinema. Then there are some other things to consider. The first one is what kind of display you are using. I started in the realm of 4K with a Samsung MU7000 (an LCD panel). It wasn't bright so 4K movies looked dark like Fury Road even when it was mastered at 4000 nits. When I upgraded things started to change: I went with a Samsung Q70R, then an LG C1 OLED and now I'm using an LG G3 OLED. The last one looks the brightest (1410 nits at a 10% window) and now Fury Road looks vastly different. And then... How good your display tracks the EOTF? How good does it do tone mapping? How good does it cover the DCI-P3 and Rec2020 color spaces? What's the tv's color volume? You see if your display doesn't handle properly all these 4K features you won't experience the true benefits of HDR. And even might seem that your movie in SDR is better. Most reviewers don't even have elite tvs and unfortunately you need one of those if you want to give a real assessment of picture quality. Otherwise is just a bad review.
@@danielgarcia21 Exactly!!!! Sometimes HDR grades are a bit darker like in ''Alita battle angel'' but 99% of the HDR bluray discs are brighter than the SDR bluray.
I recently got dazed and confused on 4k and it's very dark especially for a film that has a lot of sunshine scenes and shadows are just blocking people's faces
For this release, the Blu ray is a better value because u can get it for like 5 bucks vs like 40 dollars 4k. There difference doesn't justify the money
I got a 4K player for $2 with remote at a garage sale. I have no 4K discs though and I don't know how much better the quality is. I buy Blu-rays for like $1 a piece. I got The Crow for $2 but I really want to see the 4K because I heard it is incredible and so much better.
@@edbeasant9494problem is these 4ks are now the price of a AAA videogame and I know these movies didn’t near cost that much to remaster. I’m to the point I’m just saying no more unless it’s just a film I really cherish and will rewatch again and again and loaded to the brim with hardbound booklets, multiple discs, treasure trove of extras etc.
I watched the 4K in full. Legendary film. Looking good but they brightened it up slightly too much. A few scenes look too bright. Overall it looks good though. Picture quality 9/10. If they slightly lowered the brightness it would be 9.5/10. Interested to see what the arrow bluray looks like or this without HDR on
I’m sticking with my Blu-Ray until 4k price drops, after 4 yrs on TH-cam and my other channels. I’ve never pushed any products don’t believe in as a consumer, even if I’ve got it free. As big or small channels we should be giving honest reviews of products.
@@thelastmoviestandingI never bought demolition man ever so I’m buying the new arrow video this Tuesday on blue ray I don’t have 4K and most of the time the blue ray is cheaper thank the 4K
@@RobertQuant Not sure if there is a quality difference, but you can get a copy from Gruv for probably much less than the Arrow release on Blu-ray. Just got a copy as part of their holiday sale, ended up being less than $7.
I think another issue ive seen with the "Reviewers" is even when they have something "critical", or not "super positive" to say they are walking on eggshells with their comments because god forbid they should actually have to buy something!
The art of the oversell. That's exactly what these TH-camrs are doing. We all have to earn a living, I guess, but with each new release on 4K, they're still starting to feel more and more like snake-oil salesmen to me. Thank you for your videos, LMS, and thank you for your honesty.
Exactly why I stopped following MLM. I felt like I was being sold to and it was inauthentic. I want real perspectives, the good and the bad, the praise and the critiques. Everything can't be a perfect 10
@@MrJwhdz1 I couldn't agree more. In regards to MLM, I also feel that he exhibits a lack of general film knowledge that makes his praising of certain 4K titles even more suspect. I'm not talking about an extensive knowledge of film history here, but rather things that any film fan worth his or her salt would know. And if there happens to exist something of a knowledge gap about a given film or genre, the fact that he can't be bothered to do some research before filming a video just makes him seem like even more of a huckster, unfortunately. It might be perfectly unintentional on his part, but that's how I feel about it.
Biggest issue with Demolition Man in the UK: I saw this film at the cinema back in 1993. They dined at Taco Bell. On the UK VHS (and later DVD) release, they also dined at Taco Bell. However, in common with a lot of Warner movies from the 90s, the UK release had several cuts so the BBFC rating could be dropped to a 15 (rather than an 18). Not being able to play NTSC discs back then, I sought out an uncut release in PAL format (technically 576i rather than 480i by modern standards). I found an Australian import, and discovered that the Taco Bell gag had been replaced with Pizza Hut. The movie has also been shown on some of the digital channels in the UK (ITV4) as the pizza hut version. Fortunately the Blu-Ray version available in the UK (which is the one I have as part of the Stallone box set) is uncut, and has the Taco Bell gag. I have a 4K TV, but only a 1080p blu-ray player. I've tried hooking up the laptop and playing 4K material at native resolution. When I'm a foot or two away from the screen (65" OLED) I can see a slight difference. When I'm sat back at normal viewing distance 12 feet away from the telly I can't see any difference. (I had a routine eye test in the last few months, my vision is pretty much perfect.) Blu-ray (in PAL countries) appeared to be a 'solution looking for a problem'. As it turns out, it found its 'problem' and the average TV size has gone from 32 inches to 50 inches. 4K, however, is a 'solution to a problem that doesn't exist'.
Valid points. I’m personally finding it difficult to fully trust the reviews coming from TH-camrs who get the discs for free. I find it hard to believe most can remain truly impartial if it means risking future freebies. I also dislike the growing trend of tearing down previous releases to give a favorable review for the 4K upgrade of the week.
Maybe they're overselling it, maybe the blu ray is better than they say however, this is ignoring the WCG, the HDR and it's being shown in a small window with compression and the 4K still looks notably better most of the time.
Decide to see I’m using my LG 77inch C3 and the textures on faces look wonderful and blacks are great. I do want to ask you how calibrated is your tv I know as you said every tv is different but my viewing is nice on the 4k so I wonder your settings or tv. But yeah Blu-ray looks fine.
Thanks for posting this. I agree 100% that a lot of the other youtubers are “Salesmen”. I’ve learned to not get caught up in the FOMO. I appreciate your honest assessment and I bought a copy of the blu-ray.
Props for calling our disingenious reviews. Thats my words but i appreciate it. Im not putting down anyone but people are definitely selling this movie while putting the blu down.
They want access to boutique movie companies .but they really fear the algorithm turning on them for being negative . They are terrified of unemployment.
Thank you for raising the obvious problem with sycophantic reviews done as positive press releases for companies rather than actual critiques of the format and disc. There have been some tremendously welcome upgrades of films to 4K especially from Arrow with obvious visual and sound improvement and they rightly deserve praise but some of the examples praising this new transfer quoted here were embarrassing and with comparisons questionable. LOVE Demolition Man and this commentary hits hard as I already have that Blu-Ray disc to hand so may well hold off for now and have the player interpolate.
Arrow did a great job on this release, & arrow did go all out for this, the chunky box, booklet, including the international cut, & a TON of special features. But most people don’t care for all that lol I think it’s cool, & we all collect for different reasons. If you own the Blu-ray, you own a fantastic transfer of the film, this 4k isn’t a huge upgrade in quality (visually), & that’s okay. I just hate all the overhyping a product that looks the same to me as the Blu-ray hahaha
@@ps5andstuffhere besides the point. If they recieved a copy from a company asking them to review it I highly doubt they would be 100% honest. So when the “paid promotion” caption comes on I turn off. And Trust me the companies are monitoring those channels to see what is being said.
I don't always agree with you, but here I definitely do. I think 4K discs are often way overrated. I get 4Ks, but I don't automatically upgrade on everything, and often don't see much difference. On a related topic, FOMO, I think the guy at In Search of Physical Media really pushes FOMO hard. I think I'm done watching him TBH.

Dude, I loved the side-by-side shots and your honesty. Over the last year or so physical media reviews on TH-cam have become a hyperbole olympics of trying to out-do each other's over the top sales pitches trying to appease the distributor that sent it for free. I am sure most the releases and transfers are great but the belittling of older blu-ray transfers is so over-blown. And if that is not their intention, that is how it comes across. It's to the point where I have stopped watching most reviews.
So your comments about the release are honest but everyone else is a salesman and you are above approach. Not everyone gets free copies. You are being so passive aggressive. You are acting like your a professional image analyst. Well, what are you running your images on and what device are you streaming from? BTW, your video is streaming at 1080p. Your comparisons are useless. You can't illustrate 4K and HDR when your not streaming it on 4K or with HDR. If you want to critique image quality then stream an honest quality. No wonder the bluray looks good. What a joke!
Dude you are 100% correct. I just put my bluray in after watching the 4k and unless you are watchiglng on a 140" projector you wont notice much difference between the two. 4k is better but on a 65" flatscreen the difference is not that noticble. People saying its massive step up are lying or have not put the bluray in recently.
I went over to Physical Media Report's respond video to this video, and in the comments the BIGGEST and most celebrated comment is "Well, if you're not watching this movie on an OLED panel, then you're not gonna see much of a difference. So you're watching 4K discs incorrectly, therefore, your opinion doesn't matter." Look, I have an OLED panel myself with Dolby Vision and the whole nine, but I also own an LED panel. A decent mid tier LED TV. And let me tell ya, if you have to watch this format in an OLED in order for this format to look good? Then the 4K format isn't very good to begin with. I say that, because EVERYTHING on my 77 inch LG C1 looks amazing. Whether it be Blu-Ray discs, streaming or of course 4K UHD discs. But they also look great on my LED tv as well. A good transfer of a film doesn't need the help of a high end OLED panel to be a great transfer. That's what makes it..... a great transfer to begin with. An OLED panel would only enhance the experience, not define it. So, if you truly believe that is OLED or bust? Then 4K is trash. Of course I don't believe it is, although the sentiment of ONLY being great if your equipment is top of the line is bogus to me. A great transfer is a great transfer.
I agree 1000% the labyrinth 4k is almost unwatchable with how grainy & noisy the picture is. For me the same with the ghostbusters 4k. I feel like i'm gonna have a epileptic seizure watching them. ( & I don't even have epilepsy!!)
Watching the 4k with Dolby Vision and Atmos was the closest I'll ever get to seeing it for the first time again. Truly impressive disc and one of my favorites on the format so far
Demolition Man is a great movie and I am sure it looks incredible in 4K but I have seen the movie like 10,000 times so I don't know if I could enjoy it.
I love your honesty, I’m subscribed to the first two TH-camrs and to be honest, if I know they’re reviewing a movie they got for free, I don’t watch it because I don’t want an advertisement, I want a review from someone who took their money to buy it. You buying a taco, 👍🏻 you buying a Pepsi 👎🏻 lol.
@@thelastmoviestanding, yeah, but you had to drink it too. That’s really going one step beyond in getting with the vibe. (I would’ve filled an empty bottle of Pepsi with Coke if I had to actually drink it.) 😄
The channel "In Search of Physical Media" should not be trusted. The only reason I'm subscribed is I'll know when a preorder is out. I'll purposely go find it myself so he doesn't get the affiliate commission. But the dude is a total douche and lies. He's been caught in lies and keeps arguing his stance that he lied about. "Mid-Level media" is a bit better. Dude will tell you if not worth buying in 4k or worth buying at all.
@ I use to be subscribed to his channel, I really liked his vids, I even bought a tv series that I never knew was out. But I unsubscribed from him because he’s homophobic. The Last Of Us series came out and instead of just focusing on the tv show’s quality as a whole he was making fun of one episode and he was replying to a few of his homophobic followers who was attacking the series because of one episode. I left my comment calling him out and unsubscribed. If you’re going to review movies and/or tv shows you can’t bring your personal opinions on certain topics that you agree or disagree with nor religious beliefs into it.
I've always thought we'd get better TH-cam reviews if the studios didn't send some reviewers free copies. So much easier to really like something if it's free
One of your best videos yet. I love the comparison videos. I don't have a lot of these blurays as I started to recollect movies in 2019, so most of my collection are 4k's.
I don't understand why so many people nowadays act like 4k completely blows blu ray out of the park and that blu ray is now obsolete. Personally when it comes to most side by side blu ray and 4k comparisons, I can barely tell the difference. I only have two 4ks, Scannercop 1 and 2 because they come with blu rays and this is the only way to own the movies on blu ray. I've watched a few minutes of both the 4k discs and blu ray discs and there isn't a big difference in the video quality at all. However I personally prefer blu rays over 4k because while I typically only notice a small difference between the formats, I like how blu rays typically have a more saturated look color wise compared to 4ks which typically look greyer and darker and blu rays are typically much cheaper. This reminds me of how many physical media fans hype up the criterion collection like it's the greatest blu ray company of all time and as though it's so prestigious. I have one criterion blu ray and I certainly don't get the hype at all. 🤷🏽
Have to agree about the skin tones looking better on the dvd. I also thought the orange lighting in the city scene near the start of the comparison looks better than the blu and 4ks blue lights
Yes. You Tubers ruin everything. I didn't even know Arrow did a release for "Demolition Man". I have to spend more money, now. Thanks. 😄 Joking aside, great video! Appreciate the comparisons. (Great to see you gave Pizowell some shine. His breakdown reviews are tops, imo. Genuinely enjoy his channel.)
I'd go out on a limb and say all 4Ks look better than any blu-ray especially for older movies. If you don't have an OLED, Mini LED, or high end projector, then you shouldn't be reviewing movies in my opinion. That's where you truly see a difference in picture quality and sound.
Oled for unnatural over saturated colours, Colour banding, and poor motion. Projectors, which can't correctly display HDR, and anything over 65" loses detail.
Wonderful talk, comparison, and I really felt educated by your hard work, thank you so much! I know anyone that isn't watching 4Ks is seen as missing out, but I custom fan-boyed years and years back with the DVD then BR plus finding the movie tie-in book and the Panasonic 3DO game (with specially shot footage by Stallone that the other versions of the game didn't have, FMV stuff really) so that's me all sorted! It's Arrow's extra content that I love, and commentaries, but I feel alone in this (plus almost all physical media of the last 5 years dropped commentaries due to streaming taking priority in budget cuts I suppose). I know some Arrow releases have new commentaries, so that can swing it to me for BR (but this is 4K we're talking about, I still don't see a reason to invest big to get 4K esp when flipping DVD looks softer warmer colours! Wow! Anyway thanks again, this we so eye-opening! My DVD on a simple Maxim CRT still looks good, the BR on my Samsung looks great, and I agree that the box there doesn't quite do it for me either, if it opened out into a cross like The Omen collection SE DVD, or slid open in the middle like the Fifth Element SE DVD then maybe, or had really cool alt art like Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Arrow tin then yeah lol
@@DarkSideOfTheMoon90 because some boutique stores like atomic video store or Diabolikdvd get them to customers before release date. Atomic is fantastic about that. They got me Friday the 13th 09 nearly 2 weeks before the release date.
Demolition Man isn’t exactly T2 or Aliens so I was already on the fence about shelling out to upgrade. Thank you for saving me $50 and my shelf space thank you as well.
I don't have the Blu-ray but got the 4K. I haven't watched yet. What are you watching on? Capturing the comparisons on? Often times 4K looks like crap compared to Blu-ray on my LCD computer monitor, but when I watch on my OLED 4K vast majority of the time is far superior to the Blu-ray and blows my PC monitor away in presentation. Knowing how you are doing your comparison will help your viewers understand your perspective.
For me personally, the Bluray is not worse just because there is now a 4K disc. I mean, is this even about the film or the format and how it looks on an OLED 🤔 I've loved Demolition Man since the 90s but that doesn't mean I'm making such a bad impression of the predecessors like DVD or BLURAY. People, are you really so spoiled with the 4K now, the whole thing borders on obsession when I hear we need this and that in 4K. I know that I'm not the target audience for 4K, but I've never experienced anything this extreme with any other format. I watched a film I liked in 4K myself, it was Blade 1998, and I found the picture to be too sharp and some scenes seemed weird to me because there was almost no film grain left. And that's exactly where the problem lies for me. Films like Demolition need the film grain. I grew up with film grain. The film was shot analogue and if you go and create a never-before-seen image, there's not much left of the original right ?
I believe you! In fact, most blu rays look great. I only updagrade if the blu ray transfer looks like an upscale of an old DVD scan or the movie was transferred with poor quality and no restoration. Otherwise, you're correct. The 4k hype isn't convincing. I have tons of 4ks and some look worse than the blu ray or similar to the blu ray scan.
I m still watching dvd's, unless its one of my favorite movies I won't upgrade it. My collection is probably 60%dvd 30%bR 10% 4k out of about 2700 movies. And yes for me, not much difference between br and 4k on a 75"tv, i m upgrading to a 120 inch tri laser projector so we ll see if i see more difference there

Thanks for all the work that you put into this side by side comparison. I have to admit that you have a point. The 2011 blu-ray looks similar to the 4k in every scene. Certainly this is NOT a night and day difference between the two versions.
I don't own the bluray, so when it went up for pre-order, I ordered it immediately. I am impatiently waiting for it to be released. I keep seeing all these unboxings, and mine still hasn't even shipped yet, and I ordered day one of the pre-order.

Your point of view is considered. Since no 4k release existed prior to this for Demolition Man, I did not need anyone to "sell" me on this release. Arrow's reputation stands on its own and is good for me thus far. I purchased n just got in the mail. Haven't watched in over 10 years. Excited to see it again in 4k quality. Last time I saw it was on DVD.
Im starting to think this same way. All most all the 4k i have bought are about the same as blu ray. Only ones I have seen a difference in is new movies nothing older.

I only buy dvds now if they don't make it on blu ray and sadly a lot of old comedies from the 90s are only on dvd. But with the 4k I do have, I don't see enough of a difference to make the jump to 4k. The blu rays are just fine. Like in this video we are commenting on. From what I saw the blu ray looked better. I all most wish I had kept it. I'll do a review on demolition man in a few days after I watch it. I'm scared to be honest. Cuz from what I seen in this video it didn't look as good. @@MortonsReviews yeah, DVDs are great for old TV shows, sitcoms, and the 480-SD looks good for those shows, especially on a old tube set like I have, with a good CRT (1969 RCA New-Vista) I think 4K is better suited to Streaming, but yeah, would need a huge screen
@tony--james i mean you can definitely see dvds low quality compared to blu ray. I only have a 55 inch i think and it's a big different. But something are just so good you have to have them both matter the formate.i think 4k is only good for if you have a really big TV and I guess 55 isn't big enough lol.
If you can believe this, I'm still spinning my snapper cased flipper DVD - the widescreen side holds up surprisingly well, even upscaled to 4K on a 65 inch display. Did Arrow release a disc only edition of this?
I used to be an encoder for mainly dvd and bluray for deluxe digital London around 2014, some clients wanted us to capture a SD 720x576 digital tape master (BBC period tv movie) and up res it to 1280x720 via final cut or premiere. The manager obviously said no, but that shocked me how some companies would save money by digital up resing rather than going back to the film negative and re scan.. In terms of bluray it has tonnes of detail and sharpness and it would be quite easy to upresa 10bit HD to 4k with a bit of sharpening and a bit of Noise reduction...in terms of colour grade they might have smoothed out the Harshness of the bright highlights (so bright light on a person's face) making sure the blacks sit at 0 on a waveform monitor... Maybe reduce the contrast so grey areas and almost blacks would be a bit brighter. I'm probably going to buy the bluray... But indeed what a great movie.
Are you seriously trying to use your heavily compressed 4k “screenshots” to downplay this latest restoration? I have watched this 4k already on a 65” LG C3 and to come to any sort of conclusion that the Blu-ray outmatches the 4k is WILD. This is straight drama farming.
if you’re happy with the bluray, cool. the 4k is worth getting if you have the money and don’t own the bluray or got it cheap. the 4k is unquestionably better but of course it also comes down to your tv, 4k player and whatever hdmi connections you have plus your sound equipment. some 4ks aren’t much of an upgrade and some 4ks- Beverly Hills Cop, Gremlins for example- aren’t as good but if you’re dealing with a proper native 4k scan of a restored negative chances are it will look better. then we get into if there’s a change to color grading like HEAT and your preference. getting a 4k has more ingredients than expecting an upgrade which is actually frustrating. as for this release, it’s genuinely terrific, blasting previous versions. shot by shot comparison isn’t the be all and end all it’s the overall presentation and frankly there’s few films- usually decades old- that yields best results. you can have the best equipment on the market but if the 4k process isn’t top level or the grade was messed with there’s nothing you can do except stick with the version you love. in closing, since watching it on release this is the best it’s looked and sounds and the box set is really cool for fans. thank you for the honest opinion.
Aside from the objectivity issues from these salesmen posing as youtubers, this points out some the of of the problems of the 4K blu ray format. 1. The leap in quality from Blu ray to 4K Blu ray is not as apparent when compared with going from DVD to Blu ray. (not enough to justify its price tag when factoring the cost of a new TV and player). 2. Your viewing experience will vary from one television to another. Some are better at supporting HDR standards than others, Different technologies are used (OLED, LED, Q-LED, and others) 3. You may walk away disappointed with UHD transfers due the your TV not tuned optimally to replicate the intended experience. 4. The differences between HD and 4K really are not apparent on smaller TV sizes. Even on large TVs (65-75 in) the differences may be barely noticeable. The best comparison for any format is with the original 35 or 70 mm print. I would be more interested in side by sides with HD vs 35 mm, and UHD vs 35 mm. And see which is closer to the intended experience in the theater.
These other videos looked sus, because nobody gets early releases unless there is a need to run promotion campaign. I will wait until price drop for this upgrade of beloved film ❤
Yeah, glad im not following a perty, jealous channel wanting to get views through fake controversy. Ill stick to channels who understand what opinions are. This kind of crap belongs on tiktok.
Great video, I love these comparisons and fighting the FOMO. It is healthy in this hobby to understand that not all or even most 4ks to be so much better than blurays
Damn. I was even impressed with the DVD. You should have left them unlabled. Thanks for keeping the channel real dude, and focusing on films themselves, and not just whats new and shiny. Your content is like no other in the space and I find that intriguing and refreshing- always exited to see a new video put out by you. Never know what to expect, but it's always interesting.

Thank you so much for this video. I love this movie and really wanted to buy the new 4k from arrow. Now I am not so sure. The Blu Ray shots mostly look better. Think I will just stick to catching this movie on streaming when I am in the mood. I am now a subscriber to your channel. Thanks again!
It would be great if we could get accurate info regarding the 4K transfers so that we could make a well informed decision on upgrading from our blu-rays. Sad to see some of my favorite TH-camrs playing the “salesman” game…
I haven't watched Demolition Man since the VHS days. Part of the reasoning is that I never got around to it so when the 4k came around from Arrow I pre-ordered it. I haven't watched a single YT review video yet but I'm excited to see it again.
I really appreciate your honesty. I'm afraid these guys are going to be pretty angry at you over this one. Even if you get some clapback, please don't let it change you. I like having someone in this community that I can trust more to just give me an honest opinion. Personally, you've convinced me to buy the Blu-ray. I just like the colors and tone better. This isn't the first thing you've inspired me to buy. I just got the DVD snapcase releases of Gossip and Chasing Liberty. These are movies that I didn't think I'd like and never bothered to watch them. I also got The Forsaken and the snapcase of Body Shots because of you. I have been building a library since the 80s, and I rarely buy anything that I don't love. I very rarely buy anything that I haven't seen before. Thank you for turning me on to some great movies that I overlooked. Keep up the great work.
Yeah those guys lay It on thick. The Gladiator '92 Blu-ray was a nice upgrade from the DVD,looks fantastic, hard pressed to see how much a 4K could improve it. They would probably just fuck up the temp and make everyone look dead. A preorder with my fingers crossed, becoming a collector habit these days as transfers are proving to be..an 'eye of the beholder deal..
Lol it might be tough to find out there, yea the Spanish bluray,it's worth it,I was legit impressed with how it looks,I'm Not over selling like some we know lol. Anybody who calls out these fake TH-cam reviewers, and holds them accountable for all the BS they’re unloading every day (just so they can get free stuff sent to them), is ACE in my book! You just earned a new subscriber, sir!
Since I’m not a TH-camr , I would like to say I have no respect for mid level media, that Kentucky boy is fake as a 3 dollar bill, and I say that with so much respect 😂
So let me start with my thoughts on 4k vs bluray on this. From what I see... I would pick Bluray over 4k. It's sharper and detailed. Color is better on bluray, metal shinier. 4k, compared to bluray, looks muted and at times cooler tint that I'm just not impressed with. Just my opinion. Also...Just gotta say, you're just about the only physical media channel I actually subscribe to. Specifically because you are not like these others you clipped in. No offense to them. I do watch videos of theirs as they may pop up on my feed, though usually not completely through. But the whole "selling" mentality annoys me and is why I tend to enjoy channels more like yours where I can feel the honesty and passion for the movies you actially enjoy, not just the new shiny. I find that a lot in the board gaming world also, where they upsell these games they got for free to demo or such that is coming to crowdfunding. It gets old. Seem like prolonged commercials, no thank you. Anyway... just wanna say how much I enjoy and appreciate your content and honesty in it.
I still buy blu rays and some 4ks, some have been disappointing. My blu ray copy of ZULU looks fantastic. Well done for telling it like it is, I have thought the same as you for a while now.
Great video! You put more work into this one video than many reviewers put into a full year of reviews. The hyperbole has gotten out of control with some of the reviews.
One problem . The video is terrible and he said the eye scene looked better on the bluray 😂😂. The 4K way more detail. He got exposed just for that ridiculous observation. He is looking for views
Dude, if that TV behind you is what you're watching the discs on - yeah, you're not always going to see a big difference between a 4K and a Blu-ray but once you get above say 77 inches or a 100 inches or more - yeah you do see the difference.
I only buy like two new release 4K blurays a year. They are just too damn expensive!!! I hate going to the theater, the ones in my city are trash Regal cinemas. I have to drive 20 minutes to another small town to a nice Galaxy Theater with recliner seats, alcohol, etc. Well for the couple movies a year that I I'm hyped for but didn't see in theater I buy on 4K. But even old 30 year old movies are retailing for $33 on release!!! Maybe everyone would be less critical of 4K releases if they charged a reasonable amount for them like $20. They already made money in the theater, then on VHS then Bluray then streaming. 4K bluray is like the 5th revenue stream, they have made so much profit so what's with the insane prices for these old movies???
This isn't a typical mass market release this is a boutique release that's aimed at collectors that comes with a book, poster, art cards, stickers, a fancy slipcover, reversible art case, and another custom case. Hence the $33 price tag. I agree that it's too expensive but these Arrow releases are truly worth getting if any of them are your in your favorites list.
I appreciate the effort man but most importantly your honesty and open approach. I was really hyped as everyone else because this movie was my favorite when I was kid and still it has same value and vibe but lets not be victim of capitalism just because we love something and desire. Again, you did a great job by bringing a real perspective here, thank you by heart.
@@thelastmoviestandingsometimes they could be lying 🤥 just to make sure the 4K sells well 😅😅😅 only people like u watch the blue ray knows the real truth 👍👍👍
Very good video! I didn’t have the blu so didn’t do any sort of comparison in my video review. But from what you showed here there’s definitely some pop in that blu ray version that doesn’t look all too different from the 4k. Even the DVD didn’t look bad. 😂
Thanks man! The dvd looks great lol it’s only issue is the compression of its format. It’s not really fair to judge a 100gb disc vs a 9gb disc 😂 but the colors in the DVD I really like.
I pretty much just watch comparisons and thenake my decision from there. Le Labo De Jay is pretty good at comparing them. But with the cost of new movies I'm in no rush to buy any nee releases. I hate the over pricing of movies now, paying 20 or 30 dollars more over an already over priced item for something in pressed tin and some foil cardboard? I mean come on!!!!! I'm here for the movie, not the packaging.
Hey bud, well you sold me on FIRE ON THE AMAZON! Hee Hee. I like your channel because you're not bought. One guy says he didn't get paid to promote a storage system BUT then, in the same breath, he tells you he got it for FREE!? They should have to post a disclaimer stating that they got the copy for free.
So you like the 4K better I take it. I think the Blu-ray is a better presentation overall
Blah blah blah blah blah
@mystical9054 🤡
Blu-ray still looks amazing
@@freddykruger1118 🤙🏻🤙🏻yea it does!
It doesn't look washed out. Not sure why 4K always looks this way.
I’m curious about what equipment you are using to make the comparison and how the images are being processed…
Just curious, what TV are you using?
Sticking with my laserdisc copy.
Yes it has a new Atmos mix
This is worth it on the Atmos upgrade alone, great mix.
5 years from now: OMG you guys, the 8K version of this movie is so good you can see things that were never even there before!
Not happening
They can’t even sell 8k TVs right now. Doubtful we’re getting 8k physical media any time soon.
I have noticed a lot of 4ks are darker and you can’t see certain scenes as clear or sharp as you can on Blu Ray .
Seeing them side by side I prefer the Blu Ray
I’ve noticed that too, not with all, but some, yea too dark or too flat
@HomeCinemaEnthusiast, I was thinking the same thing. There were a couple of scenes where the 4K looked a tad better, but my money is on the BluRay. Guess that means Arrow wouldn’t send me a free copy if I started a channel. No biggie there. I would rather buy what I want to buy and not have to shill for it and tear the BluRay down to get it…
Thank you, @LastMovieStanding, for giving us the straight truth without any spin and for coming with the receipts.
Agree! The 4k (as with most) are just top shelf release. Cool to have, but not always worth the upgrade from a good mid their release like a Blu-ray.
@LILGHETTI this has way more special features and a new atmos mix. If you don't give a shit about those then this isn't for you.
I got a 4K player for $2 with remote at a garage sale. I have no 4K discs though and I don't know how much better the quality is. I buy Blu-rays for like $1 a piece. I got The Crow for $2 but I really want to see the 4K because I heard it is incredible and so much better.

I think another issue ive seen with the "Reviewers" is even when they have something "critical", or not "super positive" to say they are walking on eggshells with their comments because god forbid they should actually have to buy something!
I like the blue ray more!😮 The 4k has been really exaggerated.
For this movie, frankly I’m happy with the dvd 😂
Biggest issue with Demolition Man in the UK:
I saw this film at the cinema back in 1993.
(I had a routine eye test in the last few months, my vision is pretty much perfect.)
Blu-ray (in PAL countries) appeared to be a 'solution looking for a problem'.
I am so glad Warner Brothers and You Tube is letting people show the truth, such BS!!!!!!!!
Any youtube “reviewer” that recieved the copy for free cannot be trusted to be imparcial, Infact they should be ignored alltogether.

You ran your mouth and didn’t make any sense. Desperate for attention isn’t cute babe. Try Bumble.
The tv and its settings are going to make the difference. Completely agree
4k remasters are not always better. I feel like the labyrinth Blu-ray is way better and less noisy than the 4k.
I just did a side by side with them both, and 100% agree, the coloring is better too.
Dude, "Fire on the Amazon's" gonna need to cut you a check......
you're welcome 😂
Let’s just all enjoy the fact that this movie is in the spotlight again.
🤙🏻🤙🏻amen to that!!!
Hahaha I honestly went in to buy a Coke, but because of the 90s theme & it being in the movie, had to grab the Pepsi 😂
@@thelastmoviestanding, yeah, but you had to drink it too. That’s really going one step beyond in getting with the vibe. (I would’ve filled an empty bottle of Pepsi with Coke if I had to actually drink it.) 😄
To me, to go with the 90's vibe, gotta go with the Mexi Melt! Agree with the part about having to drink Pepsi. 🤢
@
I use to be subscribed to his channel, I really liked his vids, I even bought a tv series that I never knew was out.
I really appreciate that man 🙏🏻 you’ll love this 4k man! It’s really good. Plus it’s a chunky box.
@ THICC
Thank you for the great review. Just subscribed. Appreciate the side by sides and work put into this. Love me some Demolition Man.
I really appreciate it!
Have to agree about the skin tones looking better on the dvd. I also thought the orange lighting in the city scene near the start of the comparison looks better than the blu and 4ks blue lights
I love your honesty vs the paid shills ❤
Yes. You Tubers ruin everything. I didn't even know Arrow did a release for "Demolition Man". I have to spend more money, now. Thanks. 😄
Joking aside, great video!
For what it’s worth I paid for mine lol
How did you pay for it when you done a review before the release date?
@@DarkSideOfTheMoon90good point
@@DarkSideOfTheMoon90 because some boutique stores like atomic video store or Diabolikdvd get them to customers before release date. Atomic is fantastic about that. They got me Friday the 13th 09 nearly 2 weeks before the release date.
@@A_Floppy_Clocksometimes retailers get copies early. I got my 4k of Trick R Treat from Grindhouse Video at the beginning of October instead the end.
@@DarkSideOfTheMoon90 I did get mine 7 days early from Arrow and I paid for mine.
I mean, is this even about the film or the format and how it looks on an OLED 🤔
I've loved Demolition Man since the 90s but that doesn't mean I'm making such a bad impression of the predecessors like DVD or BLURAY.
And yes for me, not much difference between br and 4k on a 75"tv, i m upgrading to a 120 inch tri laser projector so we ll see if i see more difference there
@@porkepik32I mostly like DVDs 📀 for tv shows that are old but when it comes to movies I upgrade to blue ray and it also depends on the special features some DVDs 📀 have different ones than the blue ray or sometimes they take some that never make it to blue ray so sometimes it’s good to keep ur dvd 📀
That’s crazy! I ordered day 1 as well. I’m only pissed I paid $48 on Arrow when it’s $33 on Amazon right now 🤦🏼♂️😂
@thelastmoviestanding
I guess you paid for early shipping. Lol
I did order mine from Amazon and it was originally around $45 to $ 50 when I ordered it but now it is only $33.00. I guess that's why I'm still waiting?
Your point of view is considered.
Since no 4k release existed prior to this for Demolition Man, I did not need anyone to "sell" me on this release.
Arrow's reputation stands on its own and is good for me thus far.
I purchased n just got in the mail.
Haven't watched in over 10 years.
Excited to see it again in 4k quality.
Last time I saw it was on DVD.
Wish I could come over and watch it with you.
Dude thank you for doing this video. I’ve been thinking a lot of the same things for a while now.
🫡
4K is overrated.. Blu-Ray is more than fine, after living through even B/W TV, back in the day I'm not picky at all lol
Im starting to think this same way. All most all the 4k i have bought are about the same as blu ray. Only ones I have seen a difference in is new movies nothing older.
@@MortonsReviews also, I have 300 Blu-Rays movies, after slowly upgrading from DVDs and before that, VHS, I don't think I want to go through this again, I got all the ones I want,
@@tony--james according to my app I have 689 blu rays, 17 4ks 185 dvds and 7 3d blu rays. I would say going from dvd to blu ray is a great step but it's not worth it to do again. Maybe if you have a 100inch tv then it would be good but other wise. Blu ray all the way.
Was the 1080p blu ray a 4k compressed transfer? I'm new to the scenes, and I'm still learning. I started a theater room recently, so I'm researching.
If you’re going to do these reviews get the proper kit! If you’re doing this on an older tv or using a ps5 you’re not going to get the proper results.
The Art work is pretty bland
Aside from the objectivity issues from these salesmen posing as youtubers, this points out some the of of the problems of the 4K blu ray format.
1. The leap in quality from Blu ray to 4K Blu ray is not as apparent when compared with going from DVD to Blu ray. (not enough to justify its price tag when factoring the cost of a new TV and player).
2. Your viewing experience will vary from one television to another. Some are better at supporting HDR standards than others, Different technologies are used (OLED, LED, Q-LED, and others)
I’ll come back to the comments later… I’m off to watch Fire On The Amazon 😳

Exactly! I love this new 4k, but also believe in being fair to previous editions
Yeah Blu-ray is good enough for me. I’d still support Arrow. Their version of ‘Ronin’ and Man from uncle are the definitive editions in my opinion.

In the special features they said they made cast prosthetics bc the director wanted her to have a big chest.

TH-camr crying about TH-camrs.
What kind of tv and player do you use? Just curious
I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
One problem .
Anything beyond 65" loses detail due to ppi. You're as knowledgeable as the rest of the armchair experts.
@@DarkSideOfTheMoon90 Ha ha ha clearly you don't have a 4k projector then do you?!
