i only buy covers for my steels. in fact i took off all my slips to keep in a separate box. you gain a surprising amount of shelf space when you remove 100 paper covers.
Just started to buy these protectors (roughly 6 months or so ago) for my 4k steel books and like you said, the Arrow releases I own too. Totally agree EBay has some great prices on these protectors in 10 packs.
Thanks man!! I actually got 1 thing wrong in the video cause VS accidentally sent me the wrong slip 1 time, the VSU covers I talk about are actually VSAs so even I’m a little confused haha
Great video! I love plastic protectors and use them on all my physical media because they look uniform on the shelf even when they are different widths. I have used Dan from retroprotection for years. IMO, he's the best. His service is 2nd to none, and prices are amazing. His steelbook protectors also fit VS and Arrow slipcovers flawlessly, so I buy a ton of them. You can buy a pack of 25 for around 18 bucks. I use Katana collectibles for any case that Dan doesn't offer, like the Second Sight Dawn of the Dead set.
@thelastmoviestanding Agreed! I also love how most of Dan's protectors don't have that annoying film that you have to peel off of each. Those get annoying! Lol
Great topic! I got Malkos for about 80 of my favorite slipped 4Ks and bought a 100 pack of Malkos for steelbooks during Black Friday for something like $68. I actually love the tabs, they keep them well secured. I love how clean all my slipcovered 4Ks look all in a row in their Malko jimmies, as well as the steelbooks. I'm ordering more for the rest of my 4K slipped 4Ks. I also got Malkos for some of my favorite VHSs. The other thing I've gotten into this year is making custom slipcovers for my favorite movies that either didn't come with slips or I was inspired to make better looking ones. Gotta say I'm thrilled how they came out.
Thanks for the video. I have a question I'm hoping you might be able to help me out with. Do you have any idea what type of protector would fits A Nightmare on Elm Street ultimate collector's edition?
I wish there was a way to keep the J-cards inside the steelbook without folding them. Your example of cutting off the top and bottom and taping it to the inside of the case is very cool looking, but I'm not a fan of permanently damaging the J-card. I know it's just paper, but you know, the collector in me just can't do it...
@@thelastmoviestanding I usually hold mine over the shredder and just gnash off just enough for them to fit, or you can burn them with a propane torch, but the fumes can be harmful, so I can't recommend this advanced technique.
Good to know, some movies that we collect are expensive or have higher sentimental value than others. Nothing worse than ripped slip cover or dented Steelbook.
@@EvanW笑 hey so I just wanted to let you know there was a mistake on my end with that part, i think VS sent me the wrong slip so I was confused, I think I ordered the VSA slips 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ I’m going to do a small follow up video to explain the mistake. I don’t want to mislead people
@thelastmoviestanding Oh okay cool, glad you were able to somewhat get to the bottom of it! 😅 And thanks for following up. Hope you can get the ones you need/want instead.
Never understood doing this, just putting them in and taking them out of those plastics can do damage, maybe more than not having them. What shelf damage. are we talking about? I have a small collection about 1k movies, but i cant conceivably see myself damaging them by the removing a movie from the shelf that a plastic case would help.
I think VS must have sent you the wrong protectors for the VSUs. I always buy a VSU Protector with my VSUs and so far all of them fit the big VSU release.
also, every single protector i buy from VS does come with the protective layer to peel off, it's just clear, not milky, but it is a plastic layer to peel off.
Yea they did send me the wrong 1, I releaized that after I made this, they sent me a VSA cover when I ordered a VSU & releaized I ordered VSAs. I’m going a small follow up video to explain my mistake not to confuse people
@@thelastmoviestanding Awesome that you make a follow up! :D Video is still great and informative :-) btw, in case you own those limited edition Umbrella releases, i mean the normal ones, not like the mario one, those fit perfectly in the "2-Disc Side Loading Case" protectors from VS 🙂
So, I'll buy protective sleeves for my records, but I didn't really consider that for my movies. Would I buy these for my whole collection? Hell no, but there are some I would consider it for. Like for steelbooks. That artwork could get scratches or dinged up easily enough even with careful handling over the years. And if you have a favorite movie that you cherish and it has a deluxe steelbook packaging, I can understand wanting that extra layer of protection. I also really like the idea of making custom slipcovers and keeping the J-card with it. I think I'll do the same
Something like that might make more sense if you have such editions in your collection, but for me personally it's not for me as I don't own such expensive packaging. This also shows me that I am not a collector of this kind 😅 Your video was interesting nonetheless.
@@Horror_Collector4Life its not for everyone lol these protectors. I just discovered them this year. It’s more to show people these things are out there. I appreciate the support though 🙏🏻 even if what I’m talking about sometimes isn’t for you 😂
I keep my J-cards too, in a huge pile in a cabinet that smells like mildew and raccoon ass. IDK why. I need someone to come out and look at that cabinet. I love Little Darlings too
I only get steel protectors because they scratch. Even then, I've got about 10-20 without 😅 I need to buy more. For anything else it seems a little unnecessary.

I've been collecting for years and had no idea about covers!
I always buy dvd steelbook and Blu-ray protectors from retro protector. Love how they ship.
Yea Retro is legit!
I only have a few protectors for certain special editions. Most of my movies just sit on the shelf in this room.

They started making and selling acrylic cases for steelbooks.
