The funny thing is, I've never heard this cover, I only know of both Depeche Mode, and Marilyn Manson, and I don't know my personal Jesus, but I used to be my own personal Lucifer, that started at age 10, that thing I became was a monster that fed on the fear of other children in my middle school, The Animal" by Disturbed is very similar to what I was forced to observe, but lacking ability to stop it

The personal Jesus symbolizes having faith in something larger than yourself, open to you and your uniqueness. Forgiving and embracing...accepting you for who you are, in your own way and in your own world view. Diana has magic in her voice.
In this song it more likely symbolizes something or someone that gets a hold of you when you're alone and vulnerable, and temporarily numbs the pain - a drug dealer, a cult leader, a prostitute, a televangelist, a casino, alcohol. It is a rather sinister song.
Diana is one of the few people that have been blessed with a beautifully transcendental, haunting, and magical singing gift.

I have never heard a voice like hers, it is very special indeed, but then Diana is a very special young lady! Помимо хорошей, грамотно сконструированной музыки, она содержит в себе возможности для разных истолкований - в зависимости от вашего культурного уровня, в зависимости от того, чем вы поглощены в данный момент своей жизни. В первоначальной версии были два основных смысла: сотворение кумира из близкого, любимого человека (об этом сказал и сам автор песни - Мартин Гор); другой, неочевидный смысл, извлекаемый, скорее, из очень популярного видеоклипа к этой песне: саркастическое - чтобы не сказать больше - отношение к официальной церкви. Ни того, ни другого мотива нет в кавер-версии Стёпина-Анкудиновой. В ней можно при желании услышать разговор о религии, об Иисусе, о ваших отношениях с верой - как серьёзный, так и иронический. Интонации, которые я слышу в данном исполнении, не позволяют отбросить ни одно, ни другое. В этом, среди прочего, состоит одно из достоинств того, что мы с вами услышали - возможность разных интерпретаций и толкований. @MentalAmanda I have been there myself 6 times now I owe you my life but I have stopped 3 of my friends from suicide I look after my friend Phil he has tried to do it by jumping in front of a train I talked him of the ledge and I found my friend hanging and gave her cpr and saved her life I lost a friend though suicide but what you do is amazing

Listening to this, I personally felt the lyrics to be very specific to Diana's life, but also touching on some universal truths.
The first stanza (with its soothing blues and whites) is Diana's adoptive mother (Irina Ponik) saying look into my eyes and find unconditional love, support, and safety.
The 2nd stanza (with more ominous darker colors) is what Irina saw in Diana as an orphan - the hurt, frightened, wolfing girl.
Finally, in the stripped down final verse with just Diana and her ukulele sounding so vulnerable, there are still lingering dreams of her frightful past which can't be escaped (she has commented on this in interviews). Hence the furtive glances behind her.
Diana and her mom Irina have such a deep love for each other it is truly touching. Irina has devoted her life to supporting Diana's dreams. Diana had a horrendous start to life with brutal physical and emotional abuse from her birth mother, was abandoned in the winter at the age of 3 at a bus stop with a broken collarbone, and eventually adopted by her mom Irina, who has devoted herself to Diana's healing and happiness.
Diana's initial version of this song was all ukulele like the last verse, and she was very reluctant to release the song because as she said "the first pancake always has lumps".

I too have aphantasia, as I can not "See" anything in my head I think in sounds. So music is very important to me. A good piece of music is an emotional experience and DA hits the mark. The other two that are important in my listening are Angelina Jordan and, primarily Aurora. I need a dose of her regularly.
As to religion, I consider all religions to be equal and dangerous. They all insist that you believe without evidence, don't think and analyse, just believe. They are all constructs of man and used by the powerful to control. Obey and you will be rewarded but after you are dead, break the rules and you will be punished. Spirituality is part of being human, it is in all of us to one degree or another.

Hello Amanda - I'm here because you reacted to Diana. It's been over a year since you reacted to her on your channel and listening to your comments, it struck me that due to the nature of your channel (or theme if you like) I'm wondering if you've chosen the two songs to react to due to the nature of their titles. So, not to belabor your approach, would like to add some context to what you were listening as it relates to environment in which they were presented.
First off, please understand these two songs were done within competition shows, so the songs aren't necessarily presented as reflections of Diana's person - other people have input into what she sings, and the arrangement and presentation of the staging. Consider that Wicked Game was done when she was 15 - and lived a pretty sheltered life - (at this point I might encourage you to read through her English language wiki - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Ankudinova). While she had her challenges, I don't think they necessarily are reflected in her song choices. Personal Jesus was another competition show when she was older.
As far as Diana's voice is concerned, it is quite unique, though as she's gotten older and she's matured it has changed a bit from when she was a teenager. Also I have to say personally, there were more interesting representations of her vocal abilities - Like Rechenka (Russian folk song about an orphan getting married and asking for her late mother's blessing", or Dernière Danse, a French pop song about being bullied and rejected. The second song's showcase, the most popular reacted to song was called "Can't Stop Loving You Dark Version" (which I personally hate), and a Russian rock cover of "Crow" (the best of the show imo).
I'm not looking for reaction videos, we're just talking information being shared.
And as much as Diana's voice goes, and her training, which has been extensive, there are few vocalists who have the mastery of the instrument that Floor Jansen has. I did leave a comment on your first time reaction to Floor but I addressed the technical challenges you had making the video with Just Jen. And look, while I've had my own mental challenges over the years which by no means were as challenging as yours, I do appreciate the support you bring to those who need to reach out for help. But my journey is really about the music without trying to read a lot into song meanings. So often over the years, I've treated the lyrics as part of the vocal instrument's contribution to the overall whole of the presentation.
One last thing I noticed with the Diana video which was your great approach to pronouncing her name. You and I took the same approach in doing it. I got into Diana a lot early on (not so much over the past year or so and that's more due to her being limited regionally to Moscow and those that hover over her). But I did make a video of her pronouncing her name if you're interested.

Wow this band knows how to convey their message. *Personal Jesus* reminds me alot of *Jesus Christ Superstar*.
It's a very good song in that it mixes all the sentiments into one ball of musical performance.
The EQ work on the live mix sounds great too, you can hear the different frequencies between verse and chorus.
The zany thing about this song and group is they remind me alot of a genre called Pop. It's almost like Deftones, or even Nine Inch Nails sounding, but with contemporary mixed in.
It's also really easy to write a song about Jesus. But Personal Jesus not so much. It's like have faith, then defer, then abscond, then refer, then bop.
The Pop genre is fun and Depeche Mode is pop.

Для меня этот вариант исполнения является прямым предупреждением о привлекательности Антихриста,и о том как легко человек поддаётся жизнерадостному обаянию свободной и празднующей саму себя, ни чем не ограниченой, свободной похоти. И это обаяние охватывает легко ,уютно и приятно всякого человека,который привык искать беспрепятственного удовлетворения своих желаний и стремлений к удовольствиям, даже сама жизнь для такого человека становится удовольствием, так как такие люди боятся полноты правды , чистоты целомудрия и глубины понимания жизни, они боятся настоящей разумной и чистой радости жизни и предпочитают этой чистой радости жизни свои приятные похоти ;
