  • Bad weather, so plan B. Cruising around doing pest control. Made a basic mistake in this one, so hope everyone can learn from it. I know it was a good reminder for me and I’ll be going over my shooting preparation for the future. Hope you enjoy. Thanks all for watching and Commenting.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sako are doing 2750 fps.
      I have used the American eagle 130 gr hollow points and they were flying out at 2830 , not bad for a 16” barrel. They were doing 3080 fps out of a 22” barrel. I just can’t get them at the moment.
      I’m reloading some 125 gr SST at the moment so I’ll see how they go.
      Cheers 👍👍

    Love the commentary, super educational. Just wondering do you have a shot cycle? i.e. 3 breaths then being pulling on the trigger.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi George, yes I try to, It depends a little on the situation. If I’m already calm and don’t have a high heart rate I just take a breath and get it done. Sometimes you end up waiting a while for the animal to present a good shot so you have more time to get ready. It’s different if there is a shot that needs to be executed faster, either the animal moving towards cover or a follow up shot that needs to happen. There is always the option to not shoot though regardless of the pressure you think you’re under- eg safety reasons or risk of a wounding.
      In a perfect situation I would be in the prone position, weight the bipod a little.
      Firm rest under the butt of the rifle- this ensures the bore axis recoils back level without tilting.
      Check the wind.
      Input ballistic data.
      Nice natural point of aim.
      No cant in your rifle/ scope.
      Check scope settings- magnification included.
      Parallax adjusted for.
      Check data and dial elevation.
      Check wind again.
      Front hand on the fore-grip or over the scope if possible .
      Wait for the animal to present a good shot.
      Deep slow breath- hold- blink- squeeze.
      Keep your eye on the target though the scope until you confirm it’s been cleanly harvested reloading while you do this, looking for a follow up shot if needed.
      Of course it doesn’t always work out that way and in many cases you can’t shoot prone either so you always find yourself adapting shooting positions.
      Cheers, thanks for watching 👍👍

      @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting I've just discovered your channel, but plan to become a regular viewer.
      Whilst I agree with most of what you say regarding the FOM (Fundamentals of Marksmanship) I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean regarding breathing.
      My understanding is that you just breathe normally, and break the shot during the Natural Respiratory Pause (NRP) at the bottom of the breathing cycle...

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@neilb1619 Hi, glad you are enjoying the channel. There are many shooting styles and I’m certainly not saying one is wrong or right. The main thing is if it gets repeatable and accurate shot placement for the individual it will get the job done. I do agree with you for the most part however it can get difficult to use that technique if your breathing is elevated or your shooting from a difficult position. It’s ideal if you’re prone and been stationary so your breathing and heart rate is down. If you’re active I personally tend to need a way of timing my trigger break between breaths and possible movement depending on the shooting position. Just what seems to work for me, of course there are different ways of doing it. Muscle memory plays a big part too. Hard to break habits ha. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍😁

    What brand is the jacket your Waring

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the jacket in this video is a Stoneycreek Stowit jacket. They are very compact and still very effective. I usually buy several sizes too big as they are not a parka design. By getting the bigger size they come down a bit lower if I don’t want to wear over trousers. They are very affordable compared to a lot of other jackets and while the don’t have all the features I’d rate them as one of the best value for money jackets. I have 3 of them.
      The camouflage is home made. I’m starting to do a lot more myself. Just experimenting with the pattern etc.

      @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting actually, I was going to ask about the rain smock that you are wearing in the video, specifically because I like the camouflage pattern!
      Could you give some details on the base colour of the jacket, and what you did to create the pattern, please?
      Also, HUGE kudos for replying to all of the comments.
      Certain TH-camrs ask for opinions in the comments section, then NEVER reply.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the jackets colour is olive green. I then have used Crylon camouflage spray paint. Important to use “camouflage paint” or some sort of matte finish as it won’t reflect and gives a dull look that really blends in. From there it’s just about using colour that works for your area. Keep your finishing layers thin and just use quick bursts with the can. This insures a good amount of blending and avoids contrasting. Sometimes less is more. I often use the base colour of the jacket to be part of the pattern. Thanks for watching and your support.👍😁

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting

      Yes the 308 is a very efficient cartridge for short barrels. With hand loads im getting a 168grELD-M going 2530 out of a 16” barrel. I could push them a bit more but the accuracy is great where it is. Would be happy to shoot out to 550-600yards if conditions were really good. Wind certainly blows the 308 around so it is usually the limiting factor.
