I have had my U1 blue fully tegimented for about a year and a half. I work with my hands in pretty rough conditions. On the ground, on rooftops and all over uncomfortable places. It still looks brand new. This thing is a tank and I love it.
Sinn continue to be underrated in my opinion. Their accuracy is always top notch. My current Sinn 104 green runs close to zero on wrist all day and maybe plus or minus one, off wrist. They have some great designs and as stated, it seems they are unconcerned with following others and just want to make high quality pieces. I think I might pick up this one. I could imagine many thinking this might be unattractive but I love it.
Agree. Regrettably I sold my 104, however it was probably the most accurate watch I owned. If there is one criticism I'd say they need to improve their deployment clasp.
Agree with the general coolness of the brand. Looking at the Watchbuys website though is disappointing. It’s like they just carry a small portion of the brand’s calalogue, and even those it seems that 60 - 70% are out of stock...
I know NO ONE who doesn’t like this watch! Everybody I show it says: GREAT WATCH! The only „downside“ for some of them is, that this watch is very „tooly“ and sporty. So it’s not wearable in every occasion.
I bought the u50 late last year and had to wait about 3 months for delivery. When it arrived, I was dismayed by its weight. So I kept putting off using it or sizing the silicon straps. I’m an avid scuba diver and while I use digital metering equipment, I also wear analog equipment as back up on every dive. About 2 months ago, I decided to try out the u50 before making a decision on keeping it. I used a nato strap to avoid sizing the silicon straps in case I didn’t want to keep the watch. As soon as I wore it, I realised it was exceptionally well designed - the weight disappeared and it felt very comfortable on my wrist. And as a diving tool, it is perfect. Legible and sound and perfect luminescent markers for night diving. It is clearly a precision tool and extremely well engineered and presented. Confidence inspiring. As soon as I returned from that dive trip, I sized both the red and black straps and will keep the watch and use it on every dive. Frankly, I like it so much, I have been using it as my daily and giving my Rolex Explorer (2010, 114270) a break. Good diver’s watch for divers.
I’ve had a U1 for six months now, and the legibility cannot be overstated. I’ve heard people comment on it, and it was always clear from pictures that it’s true. What isn’t clear until you wear one for a month, is just how much it’s true. I’ve worn Seiko divers since 92 iirc, and have always enjoyed their simplicity and legibility. The U1 is on another level. In low light, the ONLY thing you see is the hands and markers. It’s like voodoo. Also, even though the lume is not as bright as my seikos for sure, it’s more legible after a couple of hours. If I wake up at 3-4 am wearing a Seiko, I have to squint to see the time and it takes a few seconds to read it. The U1 is almost instantly readable in the same circumstance. These watches are fantastic, and my U1 will forever remain my daily.
As a commercial diver,U1 nothing else. I got a lot of Watches but when iam welding in 170 Meters. It's the Watch you cannot break or scratch. And you can wear her to a Tuxedo or a diver Suit. Great Watch greetings from Germany.
@@TeddyBaldassarre i once visited their mini museum. A really great place. Btw, would you sell your 556 for this one or would you better keep the 556 with it’s more casual design?
I owned and loved the Sinn U1 for about a year. I had to let it go for financial reasons and miss it so! This U50 though is really a win! Watching that little Chicklet second hand go around is a pleasure. The T2 is also high high on my list. I love what Sinn does, they are so unique and cool. Save some money, dont buy an omega or rolex, enjoy the coolness of these German rigs!! The tegimented metal that Sinn does is INCREDIBLE, almost as hard as sapphire and crazy scratch resistant. The fully teg models are probably worth the extra cost if you want a real tank of a watch! I had the one with only teg on the bezzel and wow was it perfect despite trying to abuse it at one point by doing car work with it on. Review the Sinn 103!!! Is it the perfect vintage chronograph? I think so! In person the 103 sa st is just a dream. Another one I really should not have sold!!!! I will be buying a 103 again soon, its too perfect. Also the Sinn 140 is super cool! All the Sinn!
Sinn timepieces are fantastic tool watches! As mentioned, probably not for everyone, but for those who dare to be outside - and surpass - other mainstream brands. Yours faithfully, a humble owner of a Sinn pilot chrono for two decades.
As someone afflicted with small wrists, I’m so glad to see Sinn getting slightly smaller. Now, if they can just come out with a model with the sword hands from the the UX.
Just got mine a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it and it’s not like I needed another dive watch. My recommendation is get the fully tegmented version. This is something that truly makes this brand and watch unique plus it will keep the watch looking new. Bracelet is awesome but one complaint. No micro adjustment but an old technology of 3 holes for the pin to move around. I’m sure cost is a big factor and frankly for the money this is still a value buy relative to other brands with less quality. For me it was a choice between the U50 and the EZM 1.1. Soooo glad I did the u50.
Having a Sinn U50 dive watch, is like sitting in your Landrover Defender Tomb Raider and watching at all the SUV´s out there on the streets. Best regards Oni
Great comprehensive review. I want one. I had a 104 that I recently traded that was pretty much +/-0 day. After a week +1 total. I never really bonded with it because of the high polish and chunky non-drilled thru lugs. Seriously considered getting it blasted. If it was 39mm with a SS engraved bezel, an inky black dial and the case and bezel had an overall fine brush or soft blast finish I would have kept it. This U50 really appeals to me. Love the thinness, the finish, the bezel matching the case, the crown position and the strong tool presence without being elephantine in size. Much appreciated with 6 3/8" wrist. Unfortunate for me however is the price of admission.
@@AcmeRocket I know what you mean, think im going to start saving up for a u50 now. Being a submariner and not having a sub inspired watch just feels like there is something missing haha
Great review Teddy. Lov my U50T on bracelet. This model will give Sinn more respect and owners of the 104 or 556 a diver to get. The technology and durability is great for Sinn owners an the watch community. Keep the reviews coming. Stay healthy and safe Thank You for your work.
My Sinn U50 MOP black tegimented is arriving this Friday. I actually gifted my U50 last year - so I was missing this perfectly sized tool watch. Ordered the silicone strap too. Love Sinn. Have the 556i and the Damanzener ( very limited ) watches.
I previously owned a Sinn EZM 9 but at 44mm was a little too big so I sold the timepiece but thought it was phenomenal. I recently purchased the U50 SDR T and absolutely love it as a beater. It’s accurate, indestructible and esthetically appealing. I changed out the thick Sinn silicone strap for a red Rubber B Tropic Strap and found it to be more comfortable. This is a great complement to my Rolex tool watches and Tudor BB pro and Pelagos 39.
Nothing against WatchBuys, but if they're out-of-stock or don't carry the Sinn model you're looking for, there's a great AD in Germany that I've bought from called Classic Watch. The owner's name is Bernie. He's super helpful and carries a handful of watch brands, including Sinn. He doesn't take CC's, but uses PayPal. I received my Sinn from Germany in a week or two, to Oregon.
Sinn is the best! Support a small company that makes wonderful and unique sturdy watches!! The entry level Sinns are nice, but it really gets started on value around this U50, U1, T2 all the high tech ones. To me, they feel on par with stuff 10k+. Despite its tool looks, it feels and looks very expensive in person. Rolex doesn't need another customer!
Teddy your videos are top notch, the resolution angles let us see these watches like no other video I’ve ever seen and I’ve been and obsessed watch channel reviewing for many years now. I love you and your girlfriend and I can’t get enough of your videos.
Sinn 50 Thankyou Teddy for a great review .As a lover of Tool watches this watch for me ticks all the boxes and your review did it justice ..so refreshing to have a watch that screams individuality
The Sinn U50 is already a future purchase for me. Currently saving for the 556, and then I'm thinking I'll be saving for a Nomos Tangente 35 afterwards. Also looking at the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 and, like I mentioned, the U50.
Love Sinn...I’m currently looking at the U1 SE, fully tegimented in black (from Watchbuys) I like the larger size at 44mm, and those syringe hands are so iconic! Thanks for the great content Teddy!
This my grail...iam looking at the u1 for years now..but the u50 looks so good 😍 I think this is the most beautiful watch and It has his own look, I love it
This is a nice one. Bought my U1 SE from WatchBuys -2 years ago. The rep spent a LOT of time with me on the phone to ensure everything was perfect with the sale. Love the Sinn products but you gotta like the bigness and utilitarian look of their watches.
I’m a kind of watch noob and not at all sure this is for me (or that it isn’t). I just want to thank you for this video since it shows a different look and approach to a diver.
Been wanting a Sinn, but couldn't decide U1 or U50. Going with the U50, it's right inline with my daily go to the GSAR, the thinner Sinn will be a plus. Thanks for helping me with my decision!
Great review and I like this piece for its more subdued and matted finish, which is more utilitarian for a premium dive watch. Btw, you and I have the same wrist size so your hands-on videos are also a great reference for how the piece would look on me. Cheers, Teddy!👍🏻
I love it! I passed on the U1 years ago because I felt it was a bit too large for me, and I'm not a fan of their bracelet. If I buy a U50, I'll go for the rubber strap. There are a couple of other watches in my sights, though, and I just bought a Clerc Hydroscaph to satisfy the itch for a dive watch.
Teddy, glad you are also promoting German watches. I am done with Swiss CONglomorates. German for me.. for my Mission Critical Instrument. My choice is the SINN U2 SDR EZM5. Cheers
I want this watch, but it definitely suits the rubber strap more than the bracelet. For this reason, I don't think I can purchase it as I need the watch to have more than just a 'casual' weekend look; which is what the rubber strap gives off. When spending that amount of cash, I'd want it to be able to pull off more looks and have more versatility. ...love the design and legibility. Great watch
I have a sinn 13.1 but I love this watch. I’m saving up now! The 13.1 is 15mm but it’s a chrono. But it’s also 41mm dia. I have a 7.25 in wrist and 41 is plenty big for me. I love the u1 but I feel like this is a slightly better movement with a much more comfortable size.
Had one of the first U1 a couple of months ago (sold it due to size issues). After a dozen years it looked like new despite not being tegimented (except the bezel that is always tegimented). Even the outer AR coating showed nothing but minor scratches. The submarine steel itself is much more scratch resistant than normal stainless steel. In my opinion tegimentation is overkill. The silicone straps tend to be a little bit stiff when new and sweaty in summer. But the Us are strap queens anyway and wear great on Natos. My Omega certified master watchmaker always got exited about the U1 when testing its water resistance because the case design that is so stiff that it hardly compresses under 10bar pressure. A true post apocalyptic watch and a true icon in my eyes.
Hey Teddy. As the proud owner of the 556, 104 & U1 SE, I am a Sinn-aholic. With Laco, Damasko, Stowa, Junghans & Junkers in my boxes as well ... I am a German-watch fan!! I’ve been eyeing this U50 since it first started to surface last year and will find it very difficult not to add it to the collection ... as many have responded here, the only problem with Sinn is that they do so many things right. The U50 is another example! Thanks for another excellent presentation!
Have had a U50t on order for 2 weeks now through the Canadian dealer. Love it’s purpose and especially the date, very practical. Dress watches make me feel uncomfortable.
With that black and red design, they should have called it the Cardinal Sinn, or not. This is THE perfect example of form following function. I think that with the exception of nostalgia, it kicks Doxa's Sub 300T to the curb. Nice job, Teddy. Thanks.
for a daily beater 24/7 that will face the abuse of all day activities and wearing at outdoor work and will face some hard wearing Should i go with sinn u50 or the muhle SAR ? you described both as tough as nails that can take a beating , so which one is more durable and will not age quickly and show tear and wear and scufffs easily ? I am talking about the non tegimented version ..
Regarding the movement. Thank you for informing us that it is a chronometer equivalent. The discussion of ETA and Selita movements and their accuracy for watches of this tier are often never mentioned. Please continue to touch on movement performance on future reviews.
This watch is really nice . I think you should do a review on a hailos fairwind watch . It’s such an amazing watch . I know you would love it !! It’s from Canada and it’s amazing
I have my reservations about the movement being the SW300. I actually would have preferred the SW200, as I am very comfortable with the ETA2824-2 (what the SW200 is based on) but have had some terrible issues in the past with the thinner ETA2982-A2 (which the SW300 is based on)
Teddy I am back and forth between the U1 VS the U50 what would you recommend for a 7 1/2 inch wrist between the two. I feel like less is more and at times like the thinness of the u50 but am worried it will look to small due to the dial bezel ratio. I own watches from 38mm to my max a planet ocean 45.5 2500. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for all the videos and great content. Keep up the amazing work
Great review once again. I’m a self professed Sinn aholic. The U series was what initially got them on my radar. Ended up getting the 857 UTC all black tegimented which is still my daily user.
Teddy - I have just recently gotten in to the watch thing. I have done some serious deep dives into watches. I purchased the Drive De Cartier about 8 years ago and just purchased the Zenith Original Chronomaster. I have now gotten into this S50 as a change of pace watch. What is your opinion of the silver bracelet versus the black one? I would appreciate anyone's input. Thanks in advance.
Love both but the tegimented Steel bracelet is lovely and makes it more wearable in different settings. You can always buy the rubber strap later anyway. It looks great on a NATO too
My non tegimented U1 is turning 6 this year. I've taken it everywhere and never babied it but can pass off as LNIB if not for some light wear on the clasp. About as tool watch as tool watches can go.
Great review. I just wish Sinn had some “brick and mortar” AD stores that I could actually try on the watches. Maybe I’m old fashioned in the way I like to buy a watch but I like to see how it looks and feels on my wrist before I buy it. I know what sizes usually work for me but other factors always come into play. And the hassle of returning the watch, possible restocking fees, and refunds just isn’t worth it.
Sinn is Great, I have my U2 more than 10 years. Only the rubber strap at that time was Not so nice as they are today. So I’m thinking changing it in a NATO as you Showed it or on a Steal bracelet. The watch on the Steal bracelet Looks very much „aus einem Guss, from the same Moduls“ as we say in German.
I believe Teddy says the dial is gloss black here, I can't find the exact moment right now. Many other sources report the dial being matte black. Can anyone confirm that later releases are matte? Teddy probably got an early press release given the date of this video. Thx.

Agree. Regrettably I sold my 104, however it was probably the most accurate watch I owned. If there is one criticism I'd say they need to improve their deployment clasp.

Great chilled out review, great watch really like the 104. Like the relaxed style, stay off the coffee.
Possibly the very best watch for a one-watch collection! Can't think of a more clear time teller.
Who is the Canadian dealer?
Missed these videos due to my exams 🙁 Feels Great to be back watching your videos Teddy👊🏻👍🏻 Cheers!! 🥂
Thanks Rohan 🙌🏻 that’s a dedicated student haha.
I wish I wish they put the sword hands, bezel and face from the UX onto the U50. The U 50 is the perfect size!
Loving the U50 as well. A unique looking diver amongst the flood of divers in the market.
With that black and red design, they should have called it the Cardinal Sinn, or not. This is THE perfect example of form following function. I think that with the exception of nostalgia, it kicks Doxa's Sub 300T to the curb. Nice job, Teddy. Thanks.
What's your take on the mother of pearl Sinn U50?
What wrist size would you generally recommend choosing the U50 over the U1 for wearability and comfort?
Not sure why he says “glossy black dial” a couple of times. It’s matte black, no?
Now this is a watch
for a daily beater 24/7 that will face the abuse of all day activities and wearing at outdoor work and will face some hard wearing
Should i go with sinn u50 or the muhle SAR ?
you described both as tough as nails that can take a beating , so which one is more durable and will not age quickly and show tear and wear and scufffs easily ?
I am talking about the non tegimented version ..
The U series now has the correct size for everyday wear, but needs an option in this size with the high-accuracy quartz ETA 955.652 movement.
Me too! A few years ago, i thought that Design was ... Now I Love ur! It’s unique and legible. I ❤️ iit now!
I regretted to let go U1 because of its large size. U50 seems like the perfect size for me. 👍
Very utilitarian simple and not flashy. It's very East German looking and has stark contrast. Love it...
Maybe the U1 looks better than the u50 when you showed them next to each other. The extra space on the dial makes the hands look better to me.
Tremendous review!
The more I see Sinn pieces the more I crave to one!
Großartige Taucheruhr aus meinem Heimatland. Sinn ist meine Lieblingsmarke und das wird meine nächste Uhren Anschaffung auf die ich spare.
Seems like a great cheaper and more wearable alternative to the Tudor Pelagos
How would you compare the U50 to the Muhle SAR Rescue Timer?
Regarding the movement. Thank you for informing us that it is a chronometer equivalent. The discussion of ETA and Selita movements and their accuracy for watches of this tier are often never mentioned. Please continue to touch on movement performance on future reviews.
This watch is really nice . I think you should do a review on a hailos fairwind watch . It’s such an amazing watch . I know you would love it !! It’s from Canada and it’s amazing
This is what a true dive (tool) watch should be. I love it.
Sinn U1/U50 will be a classic in the future.
The finish is amazing. Ultimate tool look.
I have my reservations about the movement being the SW300. I actually would have preferred the SW200, as I am very comfortable with the ETA2824-2 (what the SW200 is based on) but have had some terrible issues in the past with the thinner ETA2982-A2 (which the SW300 is based on)
Just ordered the limited edition mother of pearl version. Looking forward to its arrival!
I really appreciated this one, Teddy . . great review!
It looks great on a NATO too
Terrific review. Thank you. Wonderful watch. Makes Submariner seem like a jewelry watch.
My non tegimented U1 is turning 6 this year. I've taken it everywhere and never babied it but can pass off as LNIB if not for some light wear on the clasp. About as tool watch as tool watches can go.
Currently rocking the Sinn 105 st sa. Both are great watches
Sweet vid. My 👁 is on the EZM3.
Wow. Was trying to decide between a Pelagos and a BB 58 but that U-50 T on a bracelet is awesome….
just picked up my U1 in Tokyo yesterday and they mentioned price is going up 10% as of today.
I believe Teddy says the dial is gloss black here, I can't find the exact moment right now. Many other sources report the dial being matte black. Can anyone confirm that later releases are matte? Teddy probably got an early press release given the date of this video. Thx.
