btw idk if people bothered you about this or not but I don't see any comments on it. You say "A-gill-i-tee" with a hard G at the beginning of the video. The word is pronounced with a silent G, so it's like a-jill-i-tee. Your english sounds like possibly a second language though? and if that is true it's amazing how good at it you are
@@TEFFTPATTERN Oh, hehe there's been a few but that's fine, I don't mind. Agility is one of those weird words I can never remember how to pronounce. Weirder still I've always pronounced the word "Agile" correctly lol
it still looked pretty good.. hey i played the heck out of this game, i found that soul capturing/enchantments from golden saints was OP when used with the "constant effect" could crash the game making speed too high haha.. good times :)
I bought Morrowind on release day along with a friend of mine and we put THOUSANDS of hours into it. Explored everything. Tried every class. Did the craziest glitches and exploits imaginable until it crashed out Xbox's lol. To this day those are still some of my favorite memories. No other game has ever come close to Morrowind.
Me and my buddy made it a goal to "catch" him by running under him and talking to him. When we succeeded, all it said was "I don't want to talk about it", which was absolutely perfect.
When I played Morrowind on its original release day, I bought the massive strategy guide, made a powerful Orc Warrior, did all the quests, beat all the bosses and eventually found a full set of Daedric armor.
I recieved it as a birthday gift along with that phone book sized strategy guide. As a 15 year old and with the internet nothing like it is today, that book was virtually essential. Especially to a noob like myself who had never played an rpg in his life. Great frikkin game. Glad you found a full set. I think the daedric style from Morrowind was the coolest looking of all the games, not to be a "purest" by any means I just think it was the most creative, daedric specifically.
damn I should have bought the guide. I got lost in Vivec and quit trying to follow the story. Then I just largely treated the game like GTA after and ignored all the questing by using the console to make my character a god and I'd just run around killing npcs in towns.
2Ton yesss. Couldnt agree more. I had to delete mgso as it was taking a toll on the performance. I then decided to replay the game through the openmw and to me it was better tgan the overhaul
Yeah, the vanilla graphics really don’t bother me that much. The game came out in 2002 so of course it’s gonna look outdated. Besides I love the Argonian and Khajiit’s funny legs.
Acrobats works great as a minor skill. Extremely easy to level up without using a trainer, which advances your character level. and it’s a universally beneficial skill. Jump running is faster than not jumping, and jumping to untouchable areas is also an excellent way to cheese a tough battle.
Yeah, this guys nuts saying no experienced Morrowind player would ever use those skills. Why would you not contribute your characters constant running and jumping to their skill progression? What a fool.
You guys clearly weren't around on the forums back in the day where min-maxers would have a fit if you said you chose acrobatics and athletics as anything but misc. skills lol Anyways, it was probably a badly executed joke on my part, but there is some truth to it. Having acrobatics and especially athletics as skills you gain level progress from takes away the control of when to level from the player, though this is not as important in Morrowind as it is in Oblivion with its broken level scaling system
I just remember playing as a mage and Caius told me to go out and explore. So I came back as Archmagister of House Talvanni, Archmage of the Mages Guild, Patriarch of the Tribunal Temple, Grandmaster of the Morag Tong and Master Thief and Master of the Fighters Guild. I guess that I’ve made quite a backstory for my character to begin his adventure as the Nerevarine
Bro I legit just said the same thing. I just noticed that first mission I took so seriously and got immersed that I literally did nothing but explore, side quest and it all b4 ever started thar quest again. What a time to be a live it was. Dope game man the best tes ever
i might be mistaking but i remember like ive made it to become Archmagister of two houses: Telvanni and Hlaalu contemporarily. Was that real? Played so many hours when i was young...
Morrowind is still my favorite game of all time. I still listen to Jeremy Soules OST of Morrowind and Oblivion most nights. I have seen footage of the Skywind Morrowind and the Beyond Skyrim Morrowind, but it does sadden me that it lacks that soul, that lackluster and excitement I expected. I never knew of the original concept and the massiveness of Morrowind that wasn't. I'd phone call my mate simultaneously us both playing Morrowind, neither of us having a true bearing at the next mysterious cave we might find... The days before fast travel except for a Silt Strider. Finding so Constant Effect items like heroic artifacts you sought hard to come across. Julien I wish, I still want him to expand on this story. Ideas of the Black Marshes, the Origins of the Dwemmer, those catchphrases like "you N'wah" and "Filthy Swit". Morrowind was my Lord of the Rings, a game so encapturing that you imagined yours on ideas about what could go on when the game was turned off or that hill you didn't have time to reach. Thank you for this.
I just finished my first morrowind playthrough, I actually had athletics as one of my major skills, it kinda helps you in the early game if you go heavy armour and you are impatient about your running speed but it gets useless in the late game. I just love how alien and strange this game world it's, casual racism, slavery, 300+ years old dark elves supremacists mages, a bubonic plague who zombifies its victims, the last obese arachnotron dwemer who is also infected with corprus, the fact that you can kill pterodactyls with shuriken stars, you can kill a GOD and a GODDESS, the tribunal temple has literal demons as slaves and the crazy lore in books and conversations. They don't makes games like this these days. Anyway your video it's fantastic, it's a shame you only have 200+ subs, your videos are TOP QUALITY, keep up the good work :)
@Arthur Simsa Kinda weird to think about how there's only been 18 years since it's release, yet the graphics makes it almost feel like it was made during the stone age!
I started with oblivion. Was given a copy of morrowind in 8th grade year by a senior we were both kinda outcasts in a very small school. And I fell in love with Morrowind since my first play through
Lmao the "@" doesn't show up in my comment notifications and I assumed you were commenting on my Rugrats video and I ended up agreeing with you on Reptar being a demi-god
12:08, lol, yeah I love how he, and the designers, just say straight up "go and get some experience in the area first. Settle in, look natural, THEN come back to me for missions of importance." While it would be understandbale to also ask one's operative to stay close and not do anything risky in the world before possibly important missions, this "go and get experience" approach also has a sense of being organic, realistic, and under-represented in games. And hey, you would want a newly released prisoner to get their barings and develop some social skills first before sending them out into the world to accomplish your goals xD
Also, Caius just needed time to grasp the significance of his orders and devise a plan of where he can send you to learn stuff about the Nerevarine Cult. :D
What I liked about Morrowind's dungeons in the vanilla game is that many of them are short and unique, there are few slogs. (Tribunal sewers are where it went downhill) Later games every dungeon has to be a 2 hour trek with absolutely every idea utilised so they are all the same (Skyrim).
This is exactly how I felt when I played Morrowind for the first time. Also things like levitation, means that developers could add all sorts of secret items wherever they want
First played Morrowind some time after the release, in 2004. I found many aspects of its gameplay clunky and a little distracting, but the more I travelled around the island, spoke, read, listened, the more it sucked me in. The atmosphere is unmatched, and I still haven’t seen a game world that combined high concepts and details so well. These cultures, faiths, politics, myths - all complex, with many facets, and thus believable. It managed to present what’s at first glance a race of xenophobic slavers as sympathetic, if troubled, people who you wanted to learn more about and help. Exceptional immersion.
You guys must be trolling. He is using some terrible and questionable mods while complaining about basically everything, wasted 30 minutes here before noticing this was less about the game and more about his uninteresting opinions.
Wow!! I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did! This was meant to be background noise for when I'm trying to sleep but got sucked in and watched the whole thing and loved it all. Please make more long vids like this, this was brilliant!
It's funny - I played all of the game through, twice - and STILL, I enjoyed your rehashing of it in its entirety! Very entertaining, good commentary and you've earned a sub today!
At long last I have broken my habit of restarting it with a new character, it finally feels wonderful. I am playing a religious Apothecary with a grudge against the Cyrdolian empire, and to that end she is an Initiate in the temple, has an apartment in Vivec where she collects alchemical supplies, books on Dunmeri history and religion as well as curious artifacts she finds. The artifacts thus far are a Dwemer staff and an Orichalcum axe. Oh, and she has a few scrolls for tourists on the major cities and regions of Vvardenfell. The plan for her to become a heretic and gather Daedric and Velothi lore, while living in the holy city and working part time for the temple, and eventually have her try to join house Indoril. She does have her own unique fire spells, a few magical items, and have created magical reservoir potions to compensate for her mediocre talents. And at this point, she is only level 4.
I always assumed that the prophecy is just a way for Azura to craft a worthy champion to do her bidding, e.g get rid of the selfmade gods, and that the pc is not really Nerevar reborn in the literal sense. This would also explain why the cave is full of failed incarnates: "Nerevarine" is a title, given to someone who passed Azura's trials and not truly the reincarnation of Nerevar.
I agree but it also makes you wonder about the ring moon and star which was enchanted to kill anyone who isnt neravar. Of course this could all be azuras doing
I could be misremembering but I thought the whole point of the failed incarnates is that while people fulfilled parts of the prophecy to become the reincarnation of Nerevar/Nerevarine, they didn't fully fulfil the prophecy fully. When you talk to the incarnates they basically tell you why they failed or which parts they didn't fulfil iirc. Not to mention I think it's a great plot device because the PC isn't truly the Nerevarine up until the trials are finished, as opposed to someone born destined for greatness already like the envisioned Hero of Kvatch or the Dragonborn. Anyone in Morrowind could in theory be the Nerevarine. I don't know how much I'm teaching people to suck eggs here, but the whole point of the Nerevarine was a way for Azura to get revenge on the tribunal without them knowing who it would be as it could be anyone (until the trials were fulfilled), so they couldn't use their oppression to prevent/kill the Nerevarine (without doing what they did which was silence people from talking about it).
As a german, I play it in english and have improved my language a lot by that. Morrowind is a game monster and if you really want to play it, it can easily take 200 hrs to get it done (more or less :o) ).
Idk why but I spent sooo long collecting books, scrolls and blades. I would take over the empty manor in balmora and put my scrolls on the shelf’s and the blades on the tables. I would stack huge piles of books in the balcony by the guard tower. I spent years playing morrowimf just messing around. I love morrowimf. The music itself just reminds me of my childhood
God this is my favorite time of all time. This was a brilliant analysis of this masterpiece and I really hope some people who were on the fence about playing it are convinced to try it after seeing this. Brilliant video!
I loved the world of Morrowind. It's so dark, gritty, atmospheric, adventurous, and beautiful. The culture seemed so rich, from the architecture to the clothes. I love the subtle hints to the history that you have to piece together yourself. It has this quiet, elegance that you would expect from an ancient land of dark elves. Exploring was the best part of Morrowind, and it gave you time to really immerse yourself in the world and feel more freeing. And as limited as the soundtrack was, it felt more impactful, like it was the soundtrack of the land more than one of the protagonist.
35:33 so begins some epic exposition. Truly cool concepts. "See that giant moonrock about to obliterate a city? You can climb that. There's a whole self-contained ecosystem up there."
I found a way to make cliff racers useful- use their racer plumes (which are very low weight) to drop in front of temples and dungeons you've already explored. The game never deletes dropped items so this way you know if you've already plundered a place.
53:40 that's not a statue, that's Akulakhan aka the Second Numidium, a gigantic golem based on original Numidium's designs that Dagoth Ur was building under Red Mountain. The Heart of Lorkhan was supposed to be the source of Akulakhan's power.
On Marksman, there's only 2 races that give a 15 plus weapon skill, meaning there's only 2 opportunities to start the game with a lvl 50 weapon skill, one of them is wood elf for marksman the other is redguard for long blade, meaning if you want a sneaky Character marksman is actually not a bad choice. You can choose the lover sign for an extra 25 agility for extra hit rate and sneak success, or the warrior to boost your hit rate for all weapons by about 10 percent. Marksman isn't as bad as they say.
"Only Major and Minor skill level ups contribute to your character leveling up, but they doesn't really tell you this." haha Anyone else who is around 36 years old know what I am about to say? ; ) You see, in ancient times of the year 2000... Games came with printed instruction manuals. These manuals contained a guide to how to play the game. The manual for TES III: Morrowind explained how leveling up with Major and Minor skills worked in detail. I remember the pages. "Oh, to be young..."
Yeah, I grew up during those times, but I totally forgot there was such a thing as manuals back then haha. To be fair to Morrowind though, that's about the only thing it doesn't explain in-game, unlike a certain sequel.... Oh and you're probably the first person to comment about the manual on this video!
Great work on this video. Of course, people who watch it are Morrowind fans, so positivity about the game is very welcome. I have really enjoyed the trilogy Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. They're somewhat different games, but certain aspects of gameplay are persistent. It's a great balance, also the sense of an overarching universe is there. As for Morrowind, it's a sandbox game, before it was really popular. The developers left enough freedom so that you can replay this RPG more times than other games.
The aspect you choose is the form he takes. Strength is a bear Agility is a wolf Guile is the hunter. Or something like that. I love the fact you don't know every little thing about the game. You rock my dude
56:36 You dont need to kill then, you can use the 'RA' ( Reset Actors ) command to get npcs out of the way, they will just snap back to their initial positions.
This is my favorite kind of combat. This and Mass Effect 1, were in first and third person view, but the ability to succeed in combat, were entirely based on the characters stats and not the players ability to press buttons. It made it far more immersive and like a RPG in my opinion. Yes it's frustrating when you miss what feels like it was a hit, but you have to use imagination somewhat.. your enemy is dodging, blocking, the players character is huffing and puffing, not skilled with the weapon, etc.
I came into this game knowing nothing about Elder Scrolls and found it charming. Was blown away by the freedom given and I literally just ran around doing whatever happened to me. Was a messy experience but everything was new and impactful. The first time you explore Vivec city is second to none.
@@songbird6414 It's entirely possible that the title of "Nerevarine" is used by Azura to describe someone for their deeds and if they fulfill the prophecy as opposed to literally being the reincarnation of Indoril Nerevar. Notice the ghosts in the shrine are the failed incarnates, not the false incarnates, meaning they could or could not be reincarnations of Nerevar, but just didn't fulfill the prophecies for one reason or another. Uriel Septim and Azura could have just seen you were the right person at the right time. Also, the wise woman says "you are not the Nerevarine, but you may become the Nerevarine," which implies it's a title given to someone. Dagoth Gares and Dagoth Ur recognize you as Nerevar before Azura does however, so it's possible that the Nerevarine is both a title that you must become (like mantling) as well as something you are born with.
Its a vague prophacy that becomes a description of what must come to pass. A man born in a hospital will arrive in the Olympic stadium. He will defeat the reigning mens Olympic 200m champion in the final race taking the world record. He will face many challenges to get there. First he must show himself fleet of foot to his earliest instructors. The next trial is to defeat his formative peers both locally, nationally and then internationally. Sponsorship he must obtain from the Great Brands. Following National success he will receive Olympic funding from his government. Many days he will be seen training. Neither distraction of injury shall derail his rise to be Olympic champion and world record holder. Many will claim to be the fordestined champion but they shall fail before the chosen one shall be revealed by his deads.
It's interesting how Morrowind is technically smaller than most other elder scrolls games but it feels so much larger. I remember as a kid I got lost in vivec for probably 10 hours the first time I got there
I think part of it is how dense the following games are and how much easier it is to discover caves and such since they pop up on your compass when you're within a certain distance from them. I think Vivec gets a lot of undeserved flack for being too complex but it can be a bit cumbersome to navigate if you're not used to using the local map and asking guards for directions. I like it though, and it's kinda sad how we'll likely never see anything else like it again from a TES game
I ALWAYS pick Athletics as either a major or a minor skill. It's nice to move faster. Also moving faster is actually a tactic you can use in combat for evading spells and even physical hits. Also... I'm not 100 % sure but I think that high level of Athletics makes you lose Fatigue slower while running
I always choose either athletics or acrobatics as a major skill sometimes both for expediency. If you know what your doing it just makes u level up faster. Can't believe you say not to.
Eh, it was kind of a joke to begin with, but there is some truth to it. It's not as bad in Morrowind as in Oblivion, but even here it takes away some of the decision of when to level up since Acrobatics/Athletics will just keep going up no matter what. It is a good way to gain some speed and Strength early on tho
That Thong amulet probably isn't a piece of underwear. A thong is only more recently considered a piece of underwear, historically it was more likely to refer to a narrow strip of leather used as a fasten or hold something. So that Thong item is probably an amulet crudely tied to a thin strip of leather.
It's funnier to imagine that it's a piece of sentimental underwear handed down through the generations though. Besides, I don't think I was able to spot it around my character's neck when wearing it lmao
I love Morrowind, it is seriously my favorite game of all time, and I have played ALOT of games from all genres and all systems (PC is the best hands down). I probably barely have done half of the game, with a lot of different play throughs and a shit load of hours it is embarrassing. I swear it is huge let alone doing all the quests in the game and I mean EVERY quest. Then with the expansions you get even more to explore and kill and loot and immersive lore and a lot of other RPG elements that is like crack for us hardcore fans. It is the most immersive game I have ever played. Great video! Like this shit guys!
Haha, it took me an embarrassing amount of time and playthroughs to actually finish it, much less actually getting just half way! Thanks for watching :)
This is the best vid concerning the actual story out there. Just wonderful, and perfect for both nostalgia and introducing people to what actually occurs in this game (cause it can be difficult to follow). You need far more viewers, cause you deserve it. Blessings bro.
Hold up I've only watched a few minutes of this so far sure but you're telling me you only have 14 subscribers and 100 ish views?? Wut surely there is an explanation for this
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Here you go: www.reddit.com/r/Morrowind/comments/edrd9r/morrowind_retrospective_video_i_found_which_i/ I don't know how much it will help but it helped me a little when I did it for a video once. Lets just hope people see it :D
"Marksman is pretty much useless.." Marksman is my main build A tip if you want to be good with the bow : 1. Get yourself familliar with the arrow's trajectory That's it. Levelling up is easy if you've mastered this. For me, I don't have crosshairs now and still enjoy being a marksman.
This video is fantastic, full of depth and interesting information. Keep making content of this flavor and 2020 will definitely be your year, we'll make sure of it :)
No it wasn’t, there are a ton of ways to get around movement speed in the game, Morrowind in surface area is like a puddle, but the depth is like an ocean. Morrowind is so dense with content related to world building, lore, and immersion. Skyrim and Oblivion are like an ocean in surface area, but have the depth of a puddle. That is the difference.
When I played Morrowind after my first TES experience Oblivion I was shocked at how much more content it had, it was such an engrossing experience, no other RPG had as many skills and things you could do. I was very disappointed with how the later games kept stripping these things away, skyrim disappointed me greatly in this regard, also because of it's lower customization and its cliche dragon story. I did try Daggerfall after Morrowind, I didn't find it better but it was at least an enjoyable experience.
You mention that Bloodmoon questline where your choice makes a proper difference, and that these kinds of things didn't happen in the main game. The Fighters' Guild questline does have a pretty significant split towards the end where you can either follow Sjoring Hard-Heart's orders even though he seems a little too brutal, or if you talk to Percius Mercius (who Caius Cosades has mentioned that he trusts) you'll find out that Sjoring is corrupt and is working with the criminal Camonna Tong syndicate to eradicate the Thieves' Guild. One quest giver will have you kill some key Thieves' Guild leaders, and the other will task you with weeding out the corrupt Fighters' Guild leaders (one of whom you may already have bribed during a Thieves' Guild quest). I think this questline is thrilling as hell personally.
I remember printing the Vvardenfell map twice the size taping the bond papers together then mark the quests areas there together with my notebook where i write directions. Didn’t last though, only until i bought the guide book which I consider my priced possession. 😂
Man, this game was so good. Wish Bethesda would try to be more creative with their world building again instead of making another uninspired medieval fantasy sim. Dragons were cool, but c'mon. A universe with Dagoth Ur and the tribunal, netch, crazy mushroom towers, a dwarf with spider legs, and now we're resorting to DRAGONS?
Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim for me. There are deminishing returns for this series for me. I loved Morrowind so much, Oblivion the curse of bad level scaling, Skyrim no thanks grind fest.
Amazing video! So much nostalgia watching it. Morrowind is definitely the best Elder Scrolls Game, by a distance, and also one of the best RPG's of all time. I'd give up a bollock for a Remaster.
Wait. You call Morrowind a good RPG? Please, try the Dragon Age series, the Dragon Quest series, Neverwinter Nights or the Gothic series. Those are RPGs where your choices have impact (some more some than others) and the world remembers your deeds.
Played this gem as somewhat of a joke a few weeks ago since I have a reputation among friends of hating new games and only playing older games, but fell in loce after 2 days or so. It just feels soo... alien compared to some of the later games.
15:55 See, this is a perfect example of still learning something new in Morrowind nearly 20 years later. I had no idea trying to merely alter a dwemer item is illegal.
Someone else pointed out that they might have attacked because I tried to use one of the soul gems I stole from her during the first 5 hours of gameplay. I didn't remember doing that of course so I was really confused of why everyone in the Mages Guild got so mad lol
when I first played this game I disappeared from the real world for like a month. people were showing up at my house to make sure I was ok. I had about 75% as much fun playing oblivion which still puts it up there with my favorite games. Im playing through skyrim now after starting and quitting it several times in the past and it just feels very bland. there are cool aspects and amazing mods but the base game feels half hearted by comparison.
22:25 to 22:55 was hilarious. I'm playing through Morrowind for the first time in years, and although I miss my old Xbox, I wouldn't go back to it. Having the expansions at your fingertips from the start is awesome. The whole game is awesome. And I don't even have any mods installed.
I like the meta plot with Azura and the uncertainty of her prophecy being a case of you born to a role or being self made to fulfill the role. You talk about the books in the game and Azura and the box really hits the point of the game on the head. Azura's power seems to go both ways; being accurate and being proven wrong. The big point of the game in my opinion is that being preordained to do something Isn't probable, but if you put in the work and follow the steps it wont matter anyways because the results will be the same.
@@FromHerotoZeroYT came to say that Morrowind is a beautiful game for being just about the only game that depicts "Mantling" in a way that is conveyed to, and felt by, the player- and is legitimately earned, rather than given after some contrived set of steps or strange rituals or something
I think it's mostly for min-maxing. Having Acrobatics and Athletics as Major or Minor skills makes you level faster, yes, but since you'll jump and walk A LOT and level them up fast you'll waste the stat increase when Strength and Speed are at max. Oh, and also because you kinda waste the boost you get from having them as Major/Minor. I've done this myself every time I've played, it wasn't until I did research after the playthrough that I discovered that the consensus is "bad don't do"
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Unlike in Oblivion, you don't need to min/max in this game. You'll get powerful if you have a decently thought-out build. Enemies don't really scale here. If you can manage the slow ass walk speed up until getting the Boots of Blinding speed, then you have 2 more skills which you can put instead. Although, to new players I recommend that they put acrobatics and athletics anyway, cause I know that being slow is gonna ruin the game for them a lot :D
Yeah, that's a pretty good point! Properly managing your stats in Oblivion is so much more imperative since enemies scale with your level. I still like having a high Speed/Athletics/Acrobatics though
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Min-maxing is waste of time in this game. Too much of hassle and either way You'll be demi-god regardless of maxing attributes. Also, if You choose birthsign with attributes bonuses You'll have plenty free points to allocate. It's just not worth it. Just play the game and level up as fast as You can.
Yeah, but you only really need to reach level 6 to complete the game. Instead of having level-ups where you waste modifiers that are automatically placed on a maxed stat from gaining Acrobatics/Athletics levels you can be more flexible with where you want the modifiers to go if you choose those skills as Minor skills. But hey, it's only for optimizing the leveling process a bit and you really don't need to do it, t'was just a tip and mostly for the sake of a joke. Thanks for watching! :D
picking acrobaticts as major or minor skill is really good, since it gives you strength when leveling up. and i jump everywhere which makes leveling very fast and i have 100 strength at level 10 or something
Best game ever created. I agree 100%. Just added 402 mods with OpenMW and good lord does it look and play fantastic. Zero ctds. Im gonna spend 300 hours on this playthrough. With Tamriel Rebuilt along with expansions and modded expansions it'll keep me busy for the next year.
The game for me broke my immersion over 100 times because of the amount of googling I had to do thanks to bad directions. I can't believe I had the mental stamina and endurance to bare this unforgiving game on the Xbox. And there was also this weird bug where the silt strider guy at balmora would disappear an never return. It was great for its time but it hasn't aged as well as so many Morrowind fans claim. What I liked about the game: Levitation No fast travel Superior magic system And overall better game mechanics than any of the other Elder Scrolls. And the water looks very good for its time. And with mods makes me just lose my mind. And don't even get me started on Morrowind Rebirth.
I think there's two instances in the main game where the directions are just outright wrong. I didn't really have any trouble navigating just from in-game directions. Also Morrowind Rebirth is fucking class!
The pack in map showed the location of literally every overworld cave, mine, shrine, tomb, stronghold, etc on the island. The Daedric shrines were even all named, so long as you could decipher Daedric. I swear, gamers have gotten so used to constant hand holding that they're near useless without an arrow and radar to follow. Not only do those things break immersion, but they preclude the joy of discovery that you feel from exploration. Exploration is nearly nonexistent in games today. Following an arrow to a location is not exploring, no matter how cool the location is when you get there. I don't understand how the same generation of gamers that made waypoint arrows, colored "follow me" lines and radars necessary is the same generation that made Minecraft successful. Good luck if you ever try and tackle the Outer Wilds without cheating. All of the above plus a crash course in theoretical quantum physics. Or you can be led by the hand using a guide and complain about how little there was in the game. It's alright to be temporarily defeated by a game. That's how they're supposed to be designed.
@@willrichtor Yes the map was good however the directions to get there are terrible. And it's not due to the generation of being hand held. One guy who got this game on release also struggled to find quest locations. If the directions were correct and not over complicated than it would've been a breeze. I went through Oblivion and then Skyrim before this game so admittedly it was very disorientating in n terms of graphics. But boy was this game immersive in the sense where is gave you a sense of belonging to the world. It makes you feel like after all the hard work. You DESERVE the title of arch mage unlike Oblivion and especially Skyrim
This is why I plan on playing my first playthrough with the coop mod. A friend of mine is an old player, so it'll be a bit more manageable. Like having a guide who knows the terrain.
Well, that's the beauty of Morrowind I guess. I'm sure I wouldn't have happened upon it even after 140 hours. Also I looked up what it does and damn, that is definitely something I'm going for straight away whenever I decide to make a soultrap/enchantment mage
@@Arcanua Well, I've never really gone for a playstyle that I need it for I guess? I don't like searching up stuff about games like this either. And uhm... I've only played Skyrim for 14 hours >.>
What is your logic for not putting acrobatics or athletics in major / minor skills? I've been playing Morrowind off and on for 16 years and I always make my characters with at least acrobatics in my major / minor skills. Easiest way to level up in the game.
Well it's not as critical as in Oblivion and it was mostly for the sake of a joke. My logic is that you don't really need to level up fast and not putting Acro/Atlethics in minor/major skills gives you more control over which stats your level-up bonuses go to

The magic system in Morrowind was so much fun. With the way it allowed the player to balance negative and positive effects. That scrolls at the start, and later those enchanted boots that give you permanent levitation, but also 100% blindness. I was so incredibly disappointed they completely ruined it for Oblivion and later Skyrim.
Damn, TH-cam processing REALLY butchered the image quality on this one...
I was gonna make a comment about that 😅 it's still a good watch bro
btw idk if people bothered you about this or not but I don't see any comments on it. You say "A-gill-i-tee" with a hard G at the beginning of the video. The word is pronounced with a silent G, so it's like a-jill-i-tee. Your english sounds like possibly a second language though? and if that is true it's amazing how good at it you are

When i first saw that like week ago i almost died laughing
Me and my buddy made it a goal to "catch" him by running under him and talking to him. When we succeeded, all it said was "I don't want to talk about it", which was absolutely perfect.
When I played Morrowind on its original release day, I bought the massive strategy guide, made a powerful Orc Warrior, did all the quests, beat all the bosses and eventually found a full set of Daedric armor.
And the world rejoiced.
I became the Fucking Nerevarine.....
I did all that and then killed Vivec and took the second gauntlet cementing myself as the true master of Morrowind.
Favorite game ever. Think I'm the only one who finds the original graphics charming
2Ton yesss. Couldnt agree more. I had to delete mgso as it was taking a toll on the performance. I then decided to replay the game through the openmw and to me it was better tgan the overhaul

I like them too. My Benedict Cumberbatch looking Bosmer is great friends with the Dave Chappelle looking Redguard in the Fighter's Guild in Balmora.
Jump running is faster than not jumping, and jumping to untouchable areas is also an excellent way to cheese a tough battle.
not to mention it levels strenght which is also important for every single build
Yeah, this guys nuts saying no experienced Morrowind player would ever use those skills.
Why would you not contribute your characters constant running and jumping to their skill progression?
What a fool.
You guys clearly weren't around on the forums back in the day where min-maxers would have a fit if you said you chose acrobatics and athletics as anything but misc. skills lol
Anyways, it was probably a badly executed joke on my part, but there is some truth to it.
Yeah and all in like the span of half a year in in-game time

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way

First played Morrowind some time after the release, in 2004. I found many aspects of its gameplay clunky and a little distracting, but the more I travelled around the island, spoke, read, listened, the more it sucked me in. The atmosphere is unmatched, and I still haven’t seen a game world that combined high concepts and details so well. These cultures, faiths, politics, myths - all complex, with many facets, and thus believable. It managed to present what’s at first glance a race of xenophobic slavers as sympathetic, if troubled, people who you wanted to learn more about and help.
Exceptional immersion.
This is probably the most wholesome take on Morrowind I witnessed so far. Have a like and a sub.

Sounds like an amazing playthrough 💪😎
I always assumed that the prophecy is just a way for Azura to craft a worthy champion to do her bidding, e.g get rid of the selfmade gods, and that the pc is not really Nerevar reborn in the literal sense. This would also explain why the cave is full of failed incarnates: "Nerevarine" is a title, given to someone who passed Azura's trials and not truly the reincarnation of Nerevar.
Yeah, pretty much how I see it as well
I agree but it also makes you wonder about the ring moon and star which was enchanted to kill anyone who isnt neravar. Of course this could all be azuras doing
She could have just killed them instead of turning the rest of their race into dark elves. I guess Daedra like to play the dramatic revenge game.

I use them for alchemy all the time, but your idea isn't bad at all. I might start doing it with some other item.
I never thought of that, that's a GREAT idea!

Can confirm, recently made a Bosmer archer and the ability to one-shot cliff racers and two shot deadra at lol 3 is satisfying on a real deep level.
Strength is a bear
Agility is a wolf
Guile is the hunter.
Or something like that.
I love the fact you don't know every little thing about the game.

But thanks either way haha

Failed incarnates werent actually incarnations of nerevar
I don't think the player character even is an incarnate of Nerevar tbh
FromHerotoZero can I ask what your reasoning is? I watch a ton of stuff from fudgemuppet so I like to talk about lore.

Acrobatics and Athletics skills actually help you level up faster. Jump and run everywhere and you'll level up in no time.
Except you cannot control it, so you cannot min-max. And the point of OP is precisely that you should not level up too early.
Did you just say fuckin “aguility” as the word “agility” 😂 we pronounce it “ajility” homie 😂 gotta love it bro 10/10 video

0:27 the difference wasn't the size of the map. it was movement speed
My first open-world love...
I built my first PC just to be able to play this with mods.
I put athletics as a major skill because it helps me level up faster
And miss out on tons of stat points.
I hate to say it, but the graphics mod is terrifying. Though I exclusively play vanilla or vanilla style mods like Tamriel Rebuilt.
Haha, you're not wrong
I remember printing the Vvardenfell map twice the size taping the bond papers together then mark the quests areas there together with my notebook where i write directions. Didn’t last though, only until i bought the guide book which I consider my priced possession. 😂
I love how despite all the frustrations, this is still one of the best games ever made
Man, this game was so good.
Hah, yeah, I mean even Oblivion was more creative than Skyrim despite the very generic fantasy surroundings
Morrowind>Oblivion>Skyrim for me. There are deminishing returns for this series for me. I loved Morrowind so much, Oblivion the curse of bad level scaling, Skyrim no thanks grind fest.
Thank you for this wonderful, nostalgic journey! I need to return to this game sometime soon.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Amazing video! So much nostalgia watching it. Morrowind is definitely the best Elder Scrolls Game, by a distance, and also one of the best RPG's of all time. I'd give up a bollock for a Remaster.
Well, there's always Skywind? But yes, I agree!
Wait. You call Morrowind a good RPG? Please, try the Dragon Age series, the Dragon Quest series, Neverwinter Nights or the Gothic series. Those are RPGs where your choices have impact (some more some than others) and the world remembers your deeds.
I love gaining Fargoth's trust then double crossing him. Fuck ya.

My favorite custom spell to make was Fire Damage 1 point on self, Reflect Spell 100% for 1 second on self. Crashed the game.
Played this gem as somewhat of a joke a few weeks ago since I have a reputation among friends of hating new games and only playing older games, but fell in loce after 2 days or so. It just feels soo... alien compared to some of the later games.
That's one of the reasons why I love Morrowind the most!
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Exactly!
Gonna do a Khajiit custom class run!
I do like how quests like the boots of blinding speed have multiple outcomes even when they don't need to
Mournhold! City of light! City of magic!
22:25 to 22:55 was hilarious. I'm playing through Morrowind for the first time in years, and although I miss my old Xbox, I wouldn't go back to it. Having the expansions at your fingertips from the start is awesome. The whole game is awesome. And I don't even have any mods installed.
the thong reward got me in tears. godbless you, il give you my sub
I hate a notebook filled with alchemy combinations, where I stashed treasure and all kinds of notes about my game.
I love that
underrated channel
Thank you!
Yeah, I really like the interpretation of Nerevar not being something you are, but something you become!
@@FromHerotoZeroYT came to say that Morrowind is a beautiful game for being just about the only game that depicts "Mantling" in a way that is conveyed to, and felt by, the player- and is legitimately earned, rather than given after some contrived set of steps or strange rituals or something
After That 8 Hour Morrowind Retrospective, I Can Watch ANYTHING.
Well, there's a 12 hour Oblivion retrospective and a 20 hour Skyrim retrospective waiting for you back on Pat's channel, so go nuts!
@@FromHerotoZeroYT HO?! ONWARDS THEN! TO GLORY!
After hearing someone talk about this game for eight hours this video’s going to be a piece of cake.
I can't claim that this video is as good or in-debth as PatricianTV's, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless!
And thanks for watching :)
I preferred Strat-Edgy's documentary on this game but yours is still very well made and underrated even. Keep up the good work!
Huh, might have to check that one out then!
Thanks for watching :)
Why do most people say not to take athletics and acrobatics as major or minor skills? I always did, they go up faster and you level quicker.
Atlhetics is a good skill to have as a major! It make you go fast!
Why not choose acrobatics and athletics? It's the fastest way to level up.
@@FromHerotoZeroYT you can never finish morrowind :)
FromHerotoZero no fucking way could Bloodmoon or tribunal be beaten that early though. Bloodmoon is especially tough
Duckie Duckie
You’ve never seen someone beat the game at level 1, within 10 minutes of booting it up?
@@shaun374 That's only the base game
picking acrobaticts as major or minor skill is really good, since it gives you strength when leveling up. and i jump everywhere which makes leveling very fast and i have 100 strength at level 10 or something
The chad face of the Altmer chills me to my bones.
What I liked about the game:
Levitation
No fast travel
Superior magic system
And overall better game mechanics than any of the other Elder Scrolls.
The Strider dude is falling down off his platform to his doom.
This is why I plan on playing my first playthrough with the coop mod. A friend of mine is an old player, so it'll be a bit more manageable. Like having a guide who knows the terrain.
Played this game when i was like ten in my original xbox, didn’t know what i was doing but i was having a blast exploring.
70 hours in and you still haven't gotten azura's star! ^.
Well, that's the beauty of Morrowind I guess. I'm sure I wouldn't have happened upon it even after 140 hours. Also I looked up what it does and damn, that is definitely something I'm going for straight away whenever I decide to make a soultrap/enchantment mage
@@FromHerotoZeroYT O.o How did you not know of the greatness known as Azura's Star it's always done that, even in Skyrim. It's OP as hell x3
@@Arcanua Well, I've never really gone for a playstyle that I need it for I guess? I don't like searching up stuff about games like this either.

I love long retrospectives. Just subbed. Nice video, hope they are all this good.
Thank you! Hope you can find some enjoyment in my other content too :)
My logic is that you don't really need to level up fast and not putting Acro/Atlethics in minor/major skills gives you more control over which stats your level-up bonuses go to
"Literally don't start playing this game unless you have a couple of hours to spare, you'll be sucked right into it's world and you'll want to stay there for days" this is true, BEWARE
16:00 because you probably used the soul gem you stole from Gabrielle lol
Also, great video, you really deserve more subs
Lol, I never even thought of that.
And thank you! :D
This is the best Morrowind review I've ever seen! And I've seen a lot through the years. Great job!
Thanks a lot! :D
I once stayed up for four days straight playing Morrowind. What I did during those four days is a blur but I know I had a blast.
I wish I could still do that. Like, I probably wouldn't because you know, risk of death and all that but still
@@FromHerotoZeroYT lol, Yeah, I was in my early 20's at the time (I'm in my 40's now). I can't stay up for more than 24 hours now without feeling like I'm going to pass out. lol
It was way too OP, but man was it fun
