- Hereditary (2018)
When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited.
Director: Ari Aster
Writer: Ari Aster
Stars: Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne

When I tell you that this is quite possibly the creepiest film i've ever seen you better believe it! It perfectly captured this sinister, uneasy, eerie atmosphere. Ari Aster absolutely smashed this movie, these super long pauses adding to the already intense vibe, and the incredible soundtrack taking it even further. I thought this movie was great and i'm inspired to start my own cult, if you wanna join then just hit that subscribe button!

the grandma definitely tried putting paimon in every male in her family. annie said her brother hanged himself and his suicide note blamed their mother for “putting people inside of him”. being she had DID and he was schizophrenic, people interpret it as hereditary mental illness but in reality he was being possessed.
yes definitely!!!
Well she missed her oprotubity with Peter . I love how accurate this is as far as being real and paimon is as real as the Bible stories or mythology . Can’t believe these guys haven’t seen this movie I really think this is gonna be a movie that stands the test of time this is our shining .
@@RobbyRockaholic She tried to kill herself and Peter when she was sleepwalking because in some way she knew Peter was going to be paimon.
@@eloisecole3579 yes, that’s definitely something to chew on, as messed up as that is she subconsciously knew, or… As fucked up as letting your child, and yourself on fire is… What if it was God’s work, because Peyman is the devil or a demon, so maybe guards fighting the fight too lol
"I didn't I was trying to save you!". In her nightmare she subconsciously knew her son would be a vassal for Paimon and tried to kill him before birth
Oh really? Makes sense
That's a really cool take, i didn't even think to look at it this way!
I remember catching that on my second watch, makes the movie that much more tragic
Everybody misses that Annie did not knock over the turquoise paint. It fell over by itself.
And you can see the light shine behind her right before it knocks over
And landed on Joan's number no less.
Yeah she tried to grab it and then the light shimmer appeared. Every scene Paimons around you see the light shimmer.
Charlie’s coffin was also turquoise…… wtf
yall are like the only react folks on yt who pause movies to discuss stuff further and I love it
Oh mate it's gotta be done i think, otherwise we'll be talking away and miss some key information! Adds a lot of time on to the raw footage but definitely worth it!
@@JackWillReactI was honestly glad you did that; whenever I see reactors just keep talking about what they just saw I'm like "PAY ATTENTION YOU'RE GONNA MISS THE NEXT BIG THING".
This is specially true for movies like this, where every single shot seems to have a key detail to understand the whole story.
I keep saying it but it’s a crime that Toni Collette didn’t get an oscar for this.
I'll never stop saying it!
@@heidihoglund8792 me either!
Honestly, the entire movie deserved an Oscar.... Not the cast... The entire movie!! 😂
@@RealBradMiller sure, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. But Toni Collettes acting is the very best thing for me, she is amazing and especially in this one
@@lupine.spirit161 Totally agree!
20:40 I’ve looked at so much info about this movie I feel like I took a class on it. The clicking noise is made by Paimon. While possessing Charlie, he does the noise a lot and then when he finally possesses Peter you hear it once again. The noise itself is a calling sound made when hailing a camel. If you recall in the picture of Paimon, he is riding a camel and on the saddle there is a collection of severed heads. The clicking sound is just one that Paimon makes out of habit in the movie and it’s kinda proof that Paimon was in Charlie the entire time. Grandma got Charlie possessed when she was a baby which is told via other clues in the movie.
i think the clicking is supposed to sound like a bird
Clucking like a bird, because Paimon is a bird. Where did you read it’s the sound to hail a camel? That’s ridiculous.
A fave of mine. I always thought Annie trying to kill her children (while she was pregnant with her son & while she was sleep walking) was her way of subconsciously trying to save them from her mother
Omg i never even thought of that in that angle
I'm here dying of laughter about you guys instantly trusting Joan hahah. "Joan seems like a great gal" "Of all the characters in this movie so far, I'm feeling most comfortable with Joan". You guys are great!
never trust the nice person.
I saw this in theatres. When the Mom floats up into the treehouse, everyone was silent until one dude exclaimed "what the fuck" and the entire theatre started laughing 😂
Both incredibly valid reactions 😂
The part where Peter gets possessed in broad daylight in the middle of the classroom might be my favorite scene. It’s terrifying
Yeah, he can’t move. It’s like sleep paralysis. He has to smash his face against the desk to get free.
The only time the mom had free will is when she was sleepwalking.
Annies husband was also her psychologist before marriage. This is why the cult couldn't break him into submission like the rest of the family. And when they did he was suseptible to being burned.
A24 released the screenplay to this movie that describes what's not always obvious on screen.
The cult wanted to give them the illusion of choice, putting the flyer in the mail slot. They didn't take the bait, so Joan showed up to the art supply store.
Joan also told the spirit that she brought his favorite chalkboard. At the art supply store, you can clearly see her with a new chalkboard in the shopping cart.
yessss an hour long treat! “hey you like fucked up stuff right?” is exactly how my friends got me into A24 movies 😂
Hope you enjoyed the video! 😊 Hahaha, i love that, A24 definitely owns this genre doesn't it 😅
Hilarious video once again guys, Jack’s “thoughts” once again predicting almost everything is amazing😂
this film should have been called "Poor Peter".
lmfao at the way you guys caught on to the cult stuff instantly at the funeral
Who's walking around carrying out rituals if they aren't in a cult am i right? 😂 Annie dropping hints straight away!
i cannot believe you guessed most of the plot twists as a joke lmfao
They didn't. They're barely doing this reaction after it's been out for so long and there are HUNDREDS of other reactions on TH-cam prior to this. They didn't goes ANYTHING. 🤣
Facts u prob didn’t catch: Charlie was never Charlie. She was Paimon even before she was born, hence why she never cried. Her death was planned by the cult. (People are saying that every random person you see is a part of the cult, even Peter’s crush) At the end, it’s not Charlie possessing Peter. It’s Paimon. Peter died when he jumped out the window and then Paimon possessed him. Lastly, Paimon rides on horses, and the clucking sound that Charlie was making is the sound you make when you want the horse to go forward.
“Did you just swim through the air?” “Silently as well” 😂
“Well she’s not choking anymore” 🤣🤣🤣💀
Ari Aster is a strange and wonderful man... you should give Midsommar a watch, too :)
I loved this so i definitely need more of Ari in my life! Midsommar is definitely coming soon!
@@JackWillReactwatch his short film ‘The Strange Thing About The Johnsons’ for a something pretty out there, fun tor the whole family
As a Swede, I approve of this.
I've seen all three of his films ("Hereditary", "Midsommar" and "Beau is Afraid") in the movie theatre. I watched all his short films here on TH-cam. Yeah, I'm a huge fan. Looking forward to his next genre-bending (western-noir-dark comedy) film titled, "Eddington".
Your thoughts on Joan when she first came into the movie was actually hilarious
So ready for this reaction based on the thumbnail alone 😂
Hahaha it was so disturbing! The way Annie was behaving right at the end was just so unsettling!
@@JackWillReact as disturbing as the movie is, you guys had some hilarious reactions. "WhatsApp for the dead" comes to mind 🤣
When Annie is consoling Charlie, the film plays Paimon's theme as a lullaby - which I think is brilliant, and it's one of several things in the film that you won't catch until at least the second viewing
"Well she's not choking anymore." He not not right.
This was AMAZING. I’m so excited to watch your other reactions.
If you haven’t seen them- “Midsommar” and “Talk to Me”
So glad to hear that you enjoyed the video! I've seen talk to me, but Midsommar is 100% on the list, give me more A24!
More A24? the Lighthouse. And yes, Midsommar. Sad we won’t get a Talk To Me reaction lol
@@JackWillReact YES, A24 for the WIN. So glad you’ve seen Talk to Me- I legit still think about that movie on a weekly basis.
At 55:43 - Why did Peter go to bed with his shoes on? The night before (or two - it's hard to keep track of time), his mother choked him in the middle of the night. So... He wore his shoes in case he needed to run.
It's not weird - it's clever.
Lmao 30:57 “rookie error.” If you watch closely you’ll see she never touched the blue jar, it appears to fall by itself! 😂
Welcome back boys hope you're feeling better. Been looking forward to this one
Ah appreciate that! Glad to have you back for this video mate!
You guys should watch the “everything you missed in hereditary” the lore in this movie is amazing
I died when you guys said “oh I love Joan”
4:25 Crazy concept, kids sneak out lol
I don't know if you'll ever see this but you guys are fantastic! 💜💜💜 I'm painting as I listened to you and I had to stop because I was laughing so hard and I didn't want to mess up the lines and dots! 😂😂 "Look what happened to her- Her head fell off."🤣😂
Just stumbled across your channel and 4 minutes in im liking it. Subbed
Ah appreciate that mate! Glad to have you here!
I'm glad you guys are back! Also, I am happy you both are feeling better! 🙂
54:46 unfortunately no, that would be an excruciatingly painful death.
very non-instantaneous. but yeah, he's gone.
That's such a horrific ending for Steve, he had such a rough time in this movie
I can’t wait for this channel to get bigger
The quality and content of these videos deserves it♥️
Those are some really kind words, thank you so much! Still got a long way to go and loads to learn but it's all part of the fun! Appreciate you being part of the journey 😊
"Yo, What's up grandma?... How about you step out of the darkness, yeah?" 😂😂 I'm using that... on any little old lady that creeps me out 😁🇬🇧
This is hands down one of my favorite horror movies of all time, even though it always leaves me feeling depressed and with a sense of dread. However, watching you guys react to it had me laughing almost the entire time 😂
This is definitely up there for me too for favourite horror! I'm really happy to hear that we were able to alleviate some of that sense of dread for you 😅
Loved this reaction! You guys were so on point with the analysis and noticed so many things most reactors don’t! Also love that you guys pause the movie and discuss ❤ SUBSCRIBED!
been missing you guys. glad you’re feeling better.
If this the vibe Midsonmor and Talk to me are a must watch!
Both sooooo good
When Joan is introduced and you guys gush about how safe you feel with her i laughed for 20 mins. thanks for that.
just made it to the doormat scene and im gonna laugh for twenty minutes more. subscribing.
You are delightful! So glad I found your channel. Looking forward to watching everything you've posted and keeping up with future vids.
Welcome back, lads!! I'm so excited to watch you 2 enjoy this amazing film!
Thanks, Meghan! Really appreciate you stopping by and checking out the video 😊
Love y’all’s dynamic! New sub 😄
Great video and... small channel? You guys are amazing!! Keep it up, can't wait for more content ❤
instant subscribe. I've NEVER subbed to anyone after viewing just one video before but I can already tell that this channel will be a real treat
Loved the reaction!! First time watching and you guys are so insightful and good at spotting important details! I've honestly never seen a reaction to this movie where the reactor was able to deduce _this_ _much_ before the ending. Great stuff, definitely subscribing 🌟
Hope y'all are feeling better. I've had Covid for a week now and I'm finally feeling better myself. After watching this movie the first time I went back and looked up Paimon and his mythology and after reading that I went back and watched the movie again and each scene made crystal clear sense. Also I believe that Leigh was trying to put Paimon into her husband and he knew. That's why he starved himself to death. I'm really enjoying y'alls reactions to this movie!
I was hit with a second round of it right after we recorded this video, but can confirm it's all good now thankfully. Sorry to hear about your covid, hoping that you'll make a fast recovery now the first week of it is down! I was just thinking about reading up on this Paimon chap myself, i'll definitely do that now. I also think that Leigh trying to put Paimon in her husband is a great theory! Glad to have you here! 😊
Definitely subbing, you guys are hilarious
Hey guys you've got a new fan and subscriber from Gaborone in Botswana, Africa ❤ this is one of my favourite horrors and I enjoyed every bit of your reaction 😂

@@JackWillReact OMY YEY HIHI
First of all, hats off to the thumbnail 😂. Brilliant. Also, I love that Jack is all about racing toward conclusions at 130 mph, and not afraid to take sharp turns along the way. 🤣
The first A24 film I saw was The VVitch. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. Very weird flick about a family in Colonial America.
I hadn't heard of it until about 10 minutes ago, after checking it out i'm already excited to watch this, looks right up my street!
Definitely highly recommend the vvitch
You two are top tier intellects.
I've watched loads of people react to this film, no-one calls it faster.
One of my favorite horror movies. Great reaction guys !
Thanks mate, appreciate you stopping by and checking out the video!
New subscriber here 👋...love your reactions. Keep up the amazing job ❤
Was just wondering when I was gonna see my favourite boys again. I'm glad you're both feeling better again now! Toni Collette will forever be an icon for this performance, such a shame she didn't get the award recognition she deserved
That's so kind of you to say, we're certainly glad to be back on schedule, got a few more movies lined up too that we're already excited to watch! I am stunned that Toni Collette didn't win any awards for this performance!?
Great reaction guys. I'd heard of King Paimon somewhere before this. So ended up geeking out a little finding out about him. The lore this film uses is pretty much spot on. A few fun bits the film changed:
The book you see is even one of the few books containing lore of Paimon (12th century), they just changed the title of the book.
King Paimon is actually 1 of 9 kings of Hell. So the thing about needing to face in a certain way is incorrect.
The other change is the beheadings. His lore contains nothing about that. The reason it was included was the art work you see in the book. He has 3 heads hanging from his belt. So they changed that. But it adds a Lot of extra scare.
Hope that helps you guys sleep a little more soundly.
Hope everyone is having a great week & much love to everyone from here in the UK
Great reaction lads. You called so many themes and details that most first-time reactors miss. What a creepy, unnerving masterpiece! Cheers :)
Really glad to hear you enjoyed the video mate! 😊 I gotta say i bloody loved this movie, i wanna watch it again already to find things i didn't notice first time round!
Of all the reactions out there, you two are catching the most in the first watch. Very entertaining watching you two figure the story out 😄
Hey guys I found your channel 2 days ago I’m off work today so expect a good old fashioned binge season! lol loving the content, much love and respect from Philadelphia 🫡
Ah Philadelphia, that's so cool! Welcome in, mate! I hope you enjoy the videos 😊
@@JackWillReact absolutely loving the content
I love how you guys are friggin hilarious and very intuitive as well😂😀
Lol jack you reaction was prissles 😂and natural and wow your observation and noticing was soo good cuz many people didn't notice many things.👍
I gotta admit, u guys figured this out pretty quick! Charlie's possessed, a cult, grandma cult leader, Joan, even grandma killing off the whole family!
Toni Collette is an iconic actress.
I will never NOT click a new Hereditary reaction in my recommended.
Aaaaaaand subscribed. 9:56 sealed the deal. I mean it was sealed when I saw the clip of you sucking in the candy and choking right at the start, but.
This was a fun watch. I love how the voodoo doll didn't completely cover James Bonds gun in your video remake 😂.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Haha, i'm working with limited supplies, it was the best i could do 😂
this was one of the best reactions to hereditary I’ve ever seen, the jokes you made, and some of the more serious moments retakes that I’ve never heard before, and truly had me cracking up!🤣
Oh wow that's some high praise! Really glad to hear that you enjoyed the video 😊
The joking early about grandma being a cult leader and the attendees of her funeral being the cult members and your dismissive chuckling had me dying.
The way you guys kept jokingly guessing every next moment...😂
(correctly I mean!)
Absolute epic reactions, bois!
Expecting fuckedupness is exactly the right way to approach Hereditary.
At 18:32… They’re so observant, but they didn’t catch the breath of the person watching him from the outside??
If you guys want to react to more horror films I recommend you watch Rec, The Orphanage or The Others. The are different vibes between the three but they're all great!!
Great suggestions!!
This poor family! They've got no food. They've got no jobs. Their kids' heads are falling off!
Actually Annie was an artist and can be seen working through the first half of the movie, and her husband was a shrink.
I had my hand over the movie in the corner in that one scene where Annie was banging her head on the ceiling and you guys full screened it LOL Thanks guys
HE NEEDS SOME MILK
JUST LET THE BOY DRINK HIS MILK PLEASE
For anyone who may have the same questions as Jack & Dan here are some answers:
Q1. why touch grandma's lips at the beginning? A1: The woman seems to be rubbing an oil or liquid of some sort on the grandma's lips, this is a reference to the old Christian practice of "anointing" the lips of royalty so that their souls may slip from their bodies more easily. It ties in with how possession in the film is often depicted with the victim's mouth open.
Q2: What is happening when Peter is attacked in bed? A1: Most commonly accepted theory is that its Annie's hands grabbing his head and she isn't trying to manually decapitate him because if you rlly pay attention she's grasping at his jaw & trying to pry his mouth open. Shes likely possessed momentarily by Paimon who through Annie is trying to force his mouth open so he can possess him. (this is assumed because the odd behavior was preceded by her supernatural interaction with Charlie's sketchbook)
Q3: What's up with Charlie's clicking? A1: Paimon is described in folklore as speaking in a different language when summoned. In order to understand him you have to command him to "speak plainly". Ari Aster the director described Charlie's click as a "cluck" and Paimon is often symbolized by birds. The common understanding is that Charlie is a "nonideal" vessel so while she is possessed it isn't his preferred body. Since she's possessed most assume she's clucking as a result of Paimon.
Also at 30:57 you can see Annie reach for the orange paint but the blue one spills on its own. this spill causes her to notice Joan's contact info. The cult/Paimon's magic has been at work since the beginning
Happy Sunday, guys.😊
Happy Sunday to you too, hope you had a great weekend 😊
You appear to have a “drinking problem”- eventually you should watch the comedy “Airplane!”, but only after Jaws, Saturday Night Fever, The Poseidon Adventure (1972) for references. You might be able to get more of the jokes from the 70’s and 80’s.
"well shes not choking anymore" fucking hell lmfao
You guys needed to watch this in the dead of night in the dark!!
I can imagine that would intensify this movie so much! Maybe i can buy a night vision camera for when we record horror movies!
Love your reactions!! You guys are hilarious and inquisitive! Off topic, but if you haven’t seen game of thrones/house of the dragon, I and many others would be psyched to see you two add it to your reactions list in addition to the movies!
My name is also Jack so you know that means I know what I’m talking about
Haha I'll always take recommendations from a fellow Jack! We've both seen GoT and HOTD, but maybe we could add HOTD season 2 to the reaction list?
Hi! I did a short from this video. Where can I send it to you?
This was really funny! Loved the reaction. You should watch The Witch, I think you might enjoy it. Cheers!
49:20 Can we just RELEASE Peter from all this stress?!? 😂
There is a deep dive on Herditary that is over 4 hrs long but it is fascinating. A lot of the lore they didn't even go deep into, or barely hinted at, the background of the cult & Paimon being so rich. There's another doc on Hereditary that is interesting on the nature of Piamon.
Well, you guys figured out the film in the first ten seconds.
52:33 the actor legit broke his nose there, for authenticity
Oh look Radcliffe and Grant are back ❤❤
