Shaq saying that Penny was on point his 1st year but not Kobe.... Kobe was benched his 1st 2 seasons and he didn't play in college, which helps a little bit..... Kobe 2nd greatest player of all time and Penny is one of my favorite players ever!!
For the most part they were different eras. They only went head to head on a handful of reg season games. Kobe is royalty with 5 rings and so many great moments. Penny was legit in his era. He had a ton of game and I always enjoyed his handles and passing.
How are they different eras? They got drafted 3 years apart. That’s like saying KD and Lebron are in different eras because lebron was drafted in 2003 and KD was drafted in 2007
@@CapnDiddles because statistically Penny dropped off around 2000 and Kobe ascended at that time winning 3 rings. Penny was in the finals in the 94/95 season and ECF in 95/96. @@CapnDiddles I think different eras because the East in the mid-nineties - you had the Bulls, Knicks, Pacers - but Orlando came along had a two year period of success with Shaq and Penny being the exceptional players at their positions. Shaq would join the lakers later and he and Kobe became dominant from 00 to 03/04 and later Kobe and Pau in 09/10. @breezemidge4127 score like mj for sure! I seen Penny go off on the #1 seeded Heat and take them to an elimination game all by himself. Pre-Injury Penny was something else battling Jordan and Pippen on every possession.
It was August 1997 at the Great Western Forum when Magic had his charity game there. Kobe & Penny went back and forth 6 or 7 times down the floor playing basically one on one. The other players just stood and watched on the court. This was before Kobe's 2nd season. Kobe's competitiveness was apparent. Penny was kinda of surprised how hard Kobe was going at him. I think Kobe won that matchup that day. After that day I knew Kobe would be a future All Star. I did not know he would be the closest thing to Jordan we would see. That game was also the only time Magic and Kobe played together. Dope game!!!
Penny was my favorite player growing up as a kid. It killed me when the Rockets beat the Magic in the Finals, then Shaq left Orlando for the Lakers. As much as I love Kobe, there are moves that Penny did while playing ball, that I have never seen any other player replicate.
Penny was amazing and very much like Magic. But no, Kobe came in like THAT, it took Kobe two years to destroy all those denying him his spot so they no longer have any excuses.
He didn’t come in like nothing. He was seen as a hotdog and an MJ wannabe. His work ethic and desire to improve his game and having a target of trying to be better than Jordan is what made Kobe Kobe. He didn’t succeed in that but did cement his own legacy.
Kobe came in blowing in-game dunks as told by Nick the-QUICK-and remember those air-balls in the playoffs against Utah ??? Plus,Kobe was god-awful on defense his first couple years in the league too.Even Lebron started for Cleveland as a rookie.

4:29 Fake picture. Kobe never went to Duke nor worn their jersey. They were possibly his #2 college pick even though he loved what Coach K was about. However, he was actually interested in the Tar Heels (or could've been his #1 college pick; never worn their jersey either). He wanted the competition & to compete with Tracy McGrady. Dean Smith actually sent Kobe a letter saying he was going to stop recruiting him (Kobe) because he believed Kobe "Bean" was going to go pro.
Penny was awesome the technical skills on ball for shot creation and opportunity was better than kidd and nash during 90s,so sad that injury ruined his game.
Kobe was in the bench for 3 years before starting. It's quite unfair to say he wasn't any good, in fact, he was really good in the minutes he played, just too young.
That Orlando Magic team with Hardaway and O'Neal that went to the finals against the Rockets was one of the best teams put together on paper that did not win the N.B.A. championship. They were all young and good enough to get there again but it never happened.

I really miss watching Kobe. The guy was just phenomenal. Penny was my favorite player at one point in time in the 90's. I really liked his game. Another player who was also a favorite of mine in the 90's was Shawn Kemp.
That’s like saying KD and Lebron are in different eras because lebron was drafted in 2003 and KD was drafted in 2007
@@CapnDiddlesI swear I was wondering the same thing
@@CapnDiddles because statistically Penny dropped off around 2000 and Kobe ascended at that time winning 3 rings. Penny was in the finals in the 94/95 season and ECF in 95/96. Kobe wasn’t even drafted until 96. Now they did face each other on occasion when both were playing at a high level, and that’s why I said “for the most part”
@@springfieldbearpatrol2937 I get the point you were trying to make. Penny had success before Kobe got drafted. Penny gets injured and those plague the rest of his career while Kobe is in his prime and they only battled a few times when both were at a high level. I just personally wouldn’t use the term “different eras” lol
@@CapnDiddles I think different eras because the East in the mid-nineties - you had the Bulls, Knicks, Pacers - but Orlando came along had a two year period of success with Shaq and Penny being the exceptional players at their positions. Penny in particular had the funny Lil Penny commercials. Few knew about Kobe at that juncture. Shaq would join the lakers later and he and Kobe became dominant from 00 to 03/04 and later Kobe and Pau in 09/10. So different eras with the Penny eventually dropping off and the makeover of Shaq and Phil Jackson leaving the East and MJ retiring.
Shaq is correct!
Penny was on the MJ path!
And I mean the path of being 1 of the greatest/Hall of Famer!
If he didn't get injured.
Kobe did wat penny couldn’t while faces similar injuries
@@DuckThePoet ummm similar is not the same as the actual.
Example:I got into a car accident.
They got into a car accident and died.
Similar,but not the same.
Kobe's injuries came after he achieved the Pinnacle.
Pinnacle meaning he won 🏆
Kobe, had injuries in 2000 and missed the first 6 weeks of the season. Kobe, had knee plasma injections, Broken fingers, injured shoulders, etc and played through most of them. What if Kobe never had a major injury how much better would he had been? Kobe said in 2010 he had to change his shooting form due to an avulsion fracture on his shooing hand.
@@Mike1122. He would have been the same person he was,GREAT!
He couldn't have gotten any much greater 😏
Penny had I can't play anymore injuries!
Tracy Mcgrady had I can't play anymore injuries.
It's a difference!
@@riofacts8283 no he wasn’t, 😂😂 Kobe was injured very early on in his career like rookie season overcame that shoulder injury over came that sprained ankle, broken finger, etc while winning a championship so they definitely had injuries but it shorten one’s career span while the other just was either tougher or luckier. How ever you put it Kobe was better
Great content bro!
*Good work yet again, BTM.*
Great throwback!
Kobe was great no doubt but Penny could score like MJ and asssit like Magic. Penny,Magic and J.Kidd have the most unbelievable passed
Score like like MJ?… bro maybe in 2k.. not in real life.
@breezemidge4127 score like mj for sure! I seen Penny go off on the #1 seeded Heat and take them to an elimination game all by himself. Pre-Injury Penny was something else battling Jordan and Pippen on every possession.
@@breezemidge4127 MJ wore Penny's kicks IN GAME, I'm just going to leave it at that
It was August 1997 at the Great Western Forum when Magic had his charity game there.
Great video
Even tho he was a Knick, i got to see Penny play in real life.
Penny vs Shaq,Kobe, glen rice... penny held his own vs that Lakers team
@@kerry-j4m because the lakers had 3x all star in eddie jones, van excel, and shaq. That lakers team already good even without kobe
@@BooperDooper-qb2nd So true. That's why Kobe didn't start,Eddie Jones was a vet at Kobe's position and Del Harris ( then Lakers coach ) didn't want to start a rookie/high-school player.Harris was all about veterans.
@@kerry-j4mwas LeBron suppose to sit the bench in Cleveland? They were a bottom feeder organization so the NBA fixed the lottery so there home town hero from Akron could play there. Carmelo should have won rookie of the year the media gave it to LeBron for essentially being the number 1 pick. Kobe, was 17 when he was drafted so it took him a few seasons to gain his footing but when he did the Lakers took off and 5 titles later, 33643 points, over 7,000 rebounds, over 6200 assists and 5 Championships makes him the only player in NBA history with this resume. The only player ever!
The Magic didn't go to the finals in Penny's first year. They went in his second. Shaq don't even know his own NBA history, lol. Also, if Penny didn't get injured, I believe he would've of been a top 10 all time player and top 3 point guard ever.
Penny, Grant Hill, T Mac, and D Rose are the Mt Rushmore of "What If" in the NBA. Brandon Roy and Greg Oden also make that list.
Kwahi?
Yessir I luv penny too Kobe too both in my top 10
Hey Folks. I’ve been a Lakers fan for almost 60 years and have seen many players come and go. Kobe Bryant was as intriguing a player as he was insane. His drive for perfection was second to none. RIP Kobe 🙏
Great video!
Great Video bro!
I agree with Shaq that, it took KB 2-3 years to become KOBE(!), but that was straight out of High school. Penny played 3 years at Memphis (College) before getting into the league. I'm not saying one was better than the other, but I would say about the same, but Penny just had those injuries...
absolutely Penny hardaway was Kobe before kobe. Penny jersey was the first jersey I ever bought.
Penny...the original "next Magic"...dude was cold...his game was so nice 2 watch...and his Air Pennys were sweet...
Today, in 2024, a lot of folks are quick to be disrespectful towards our youth because so many are out here doing wrong or quick to judge them..A lot of them are surviving on their own doing wrong that's why their lives are being cut short and some are smart enough to do what they do while staying out of the way or they're simply doing things the right way..God bless them❤
Like always blessings to all our youth who are stepping in the workforce with a mindset to thrive with honesty, integrity, and peace,
pray for those who have been manipulated and steered the wrong way by older co workers or folks in their communities❤️
I'm glad that Kobe Bryant was a strongminded, determined young man who who came in the game and became the game like many young athletes before and after him..God bless his family daily
Kobe⚘️
That s great stuff man

Man whattt!!! Ain’t got time to write what I wanna say penny was a dawg mannnn never seen anyone like him smooth long dawg man
Penny Hardaway, potential legend that hit bad luck and all we can do is speculate.
Is this a re-upload? I feel like someone on TH-cam made a video like this before
Kool vid. Always liked Penny. Especially the foams....got Kobe over Penny, but I understand injury played a part in Penny's progression. Didn't know they had a run-in though. I like Kobe's ability to turn rejection into projection.
Kobe isn’t the only one he snubbed on an autograph. When my buddy was a kid he asked for an autograph and was the ONLY person around Penny and he said, “no kid” and kept waking.
Penny’s what his name is, a penny. Kobe, priceless.
Lotta kobe highlights for a penny video
4:29
Fake picture.
If Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady get injured they'll be in the Goat conversation in that order
Penny gave problems EVEN FOR HIS AIRNESS 💪🏼🏀💪🏼🏀💪🏼🏀
Thanks for this video
Unfortunally Penny will always be one of the biggest "What if" Players in NBA History
Penny is still my favorite player ever!!
Love em both but I wear my Pennies!!
Kobe was in the bench for 3 years before starting. It's quite unfair to say he wasn't any good, in fact, he was really good in the minutes he played, just too young.
Damn Kob'💪🏾🥶🥶🥶
I have to see Orlando penny or injured penny because penny was different came in better then Kobe bean let me watch
Kobe was just like Jordan, one of a kind. The will never be another MJ or Kobe. LeBron there will be many.
Mamba was giving them the business
That Orlando Magic team with Hardaway and O'Neal that went to the finals against the Rockets was one of the best teams put together on paper that did not win the N.B.A. championship. They were all young and good enough to get there again but it never happened.
Penny is the only reason ive been an Orlando Magic fan since then lol
Grant hill was the first Lebron
Penny was unstoppable
Kobe is The GOAT
😂😂 how when he’s ‘only’ the 2nd best SG ever?
MJ is my GOAT.
Shaq was right. Penny was everything Kobe was before Kobe. The only real difference was Kobe at times played out of control. Penny was never out of control.
People always wanna bring up the fact that Kobe sat down for 2.5 years but don’t realize those was his college years
Penny was the man if he wouldn’t have got hurt Mann Kobe was the man also two 🐐🫡
The Mamba all-time #1
I'm still not over the way Penny's career went; Penny, T Mac and Grant Hill, what a loss to the basketball world. Then you have D. Rose and a couple of others on the next list.
Switch Dame with Penny for the all time top 75 team.
Bill Walton biiggest what if ...but id put them next with d rose
Penny > Kobe in their prime(pure skill)
