I remember when Penny's signature shoes and collectible cards are rivaling Jordan's. He was very marketable. The true hybrid of Magic and Jordan. But Injuries robbed us of greatness.
This is real grown men shit and how you let someone you appreciate & respect them. Great wisdom on reflecting on past mistakes and growing from them. That opening dialogue was dropping a ton of free game.
Penny still my favorite player ever. I lived in Orlando during those days. They had the town lit up! Sad to see how ego's played into their breakup. Shaq was dominant, but Penny was a phenom and was more marketable. He became the crowd favorite and Diesel couldn't handle that. Will always hold that 95 team as one of the best starting 5's ever, and definitely THEE most entertaining team I ever watched play. It blows my mind Penny's not in the HOF. At his peak, every pundit was already talking about his potential to be the GOAT. He would have surpassed Magic as the greatest PG ever if he didn't get hurt. Wear Pennies, GET DIMES!!!
Hey man, me too! Any of us who were in Orlando at that time know Penny was THAT GUY. A hybrid of Magic and Michael, we LOVED that uniqueness to him. We'd talk about Penny all the time in school, Central Florida was filled with people wearing Penny jerseys, a lot of us cried when Orlando lost in the Finals to the Rockets. It was a special time! I was a fan through T-Mac's time, and Dwight's time, but Orlando never buzzed like it did in the mid 90s.
Same. I was SUPER heartbroken when I was like 7 hearing Shaq left. Even being in Eatonville, not able to actually go to the games, being a local when we were dominating was dope!
Might be the biggest what if in nba history. I compare him to Bird with less of a 3 and better finishing ability at the basket. He would have been better than magic if he continued his career. He just made really difficult things look like effortless fluid poetry.
He didn't have a long enough career playing at a high level because of the injuries. 1993/1994-1998/1999 he averaged 19ppg, 4.7 rpg, 6.3 apg and 1.9 spg. Career 15.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5 apg and 1.6 spg. After 2000, all of his numbers dropped .

But back in 96, I thought Shaq was crazy leaving Orlando because I thought they were the up-and-coming of Magic and Kareem and won 5 championships together. With knee issues for Penny, Shaq made the right move in the end, signing with the Lakers and winning 3 championships.
I’m glad Shaq finally said the truth and dived deeper on it. It wasn’t just Orlando didn’t offer the most money, I’m sure if it came just to that last point , Orlando pays Shaq the money.. It was more to it, Penny was arguably top 3 most popular player at that time 96. Shaq was young and was jealous it’s that simple.

I'm from Memphis and Penny's grandma lived in my neighborhood. Used to play streetball with him in the 90s. The difference between a NBA player and regular people is hard to imagine unless you play against them.
Shaq mentioned that Penny came in balling, but Kobe was straight out of HS while Penny came out after his Jr year in college. So based on age the timelines add up, actually by the time Kobe is 22-23, Penny's age as a rookie, him and Shaq already won 2 rings
Those years playing in college helped Penny's game and personal growth,Kobe coming right out of high-school lacked these things and also how to play a-TEAM-sport,thus,his ball-hogging ways.
From Nick Anderson's steal late in Game 1 to a 9-0 run to end Game 3 to a 14-0 run to end Game 6, the Magic found a way. It would be the final time that Jordan's Bulls were knocked off in a playoff series.

Outside of Mj in the 90's my guy Penny was the coldest if not for injuries may of surpassed Mj cause he was actually a better all around player and alot more explosive off the bounce he was a freakish long quick guard that we still have never seen another like he was cold blooded and he got the best signature line even better than the Air Jordan line to me💯

(Which both are true ) this world isn’t what you were taught and when that keep getting more know the elites will find a way to keep u sleep
Facts Shaq fake as fuck for calling him the other guy amd shit. But he was you guy in the other episode of his podcast. F Shaq
Facts.
@@gerrettj32 I just exposed shaq a couple days ago on this post about Kobe . And how he’s a Hollywood casual who is apart of the weirdos in Hollyweird . And that deleted my comment 😂😂😂😂 every time I speak truth on this app it gets deleted
Talking peak and skill, ability, agility, athletic, Penny is one of the best PG ever
The 1st 6 or 7 mins is wild zesty PAUSE all tht 😂😂😂
The only person Shaq likes hearing about or talking about more than Shaq is Shaq
Observations. 1: It’s like we were spammed with ads, either from the pod or TH-cam, with an interview in between. 2nd: “I came in him and you came in him” can’t even be covered with a PAUSE. That’s is way too WILD
The M- town Goat 🐐🐐🐐🐐
The fans were waiting for this
Penny my fav player all time! He was kicking Jordan ass
Outside of Mj in the 90's my guy Penny was the coldest if not for injuries may of surpassed Mj cause he was actually a better all around player and alot more explosive off the bounce he was a freakish long quick guard that we still have never seen another like he was cold blooded and he got the best signature line even better than the Air Jordan line to me💯
Hell naw. Penny ain't better all around than Jordan. He ain't more explosive. 😂😢😅
@@Bob-te3le At this time Penny was more explosive cause MJ was older Penny was a youngin and this is Penny before injuries and go look at his Memphis State college games well hell you see no one could stop him in the pros either and Penny had a better all around game than Mj he just had the least to work with MJ had Pippen who had a better all around game than Mike,MJ was like a 6'6 version of Durant and unstoppable scoring machine he was very efficient but he is still the Goat only thing that set him apart from other players is ferocious smothering defense he played on players but he could t stop Penny the only player that gave him nightmares like he gave players and that's the truth but MJ the Goat and if Penny had of stayed injury free he would if won rings and been in that discussion rite behind MJ because think about it Bron don't have no post game,Bron didn't have the lateral movement and footwork as Penny hell Kobe didn't either Bean just wanted to score and in the NBA record books he got one of the worst shooting percentages in league history so that leaves honestly Penny who should be #2 behind MJ and G.Hill #3 behind Penny but both suffered horrific career ending injuries Penny worse than Grant but they're both still iconic.
“You came in, him” is wild crazy
Man Shaq and Penny, this shit is legendary love it
The Orlando Magic were a very special and young team back then. =The NBA's most exciting and hot team. =It was a magical time for the Orlando Magic team, organization and fans.
Shaq didn't leave penny for Kobe, Shaq went to the Lakers then Kobe eventually ended up at the Lakers
July 18, 1996 is when Shaq signed and Kobe was drafted June 26, 1996
@@iammrhallkobe wasnt drafted there or traded there until 2 weeks later and even still Shaq didnt leave to join a dude who wasnt even 18 yet, Shaq went for the money and living in LA and Kobe jus ended up being a plus
@@moneyman4740 July 11, 1996 is when Kobe was traded to the Lakers which is still days before Shaq signed.
@@iammrhall who said it wasnt , u brung up the day Kobe got drafted like thats the day he went to the Lakers and even still Shaq didnt know about Kobe till after he signed and Jerry West said “i got this kid named Kobe” Shaq went cuz he wanted 100+ million dollars , not cuz of highschool Kobe , i dont know wat u cant comprehend
@@moneyman4740 my point is still true. Kobe was a laker before Shaq.
