Abandoned- 1800's stone cottage full of old items/Stuff everywhere/Lady lived a simple life

  • This explore I take a look at a very old settlers cottage that would have been built in the late 1800`s as a simple workers dwelling. It seems a long time lady owner/resident lived here up til around 1987. Perhaps the husband passed away some time before and she was left to live the simple yet hard life here. There are many many things left behind indicating the lady was a mother and lived here a long time and no modern updates have been made to the dwelling other than electricity back in the middle of last century as this location is some way out in rural area. While editing this video I also realized that there was no plumbing and the well at the side of the house along with the rain water must have been used right til the last days here. No shower/bath were seen although the little area near the tank may have held a tub for bathing at some stage. The outhouse I did not see and could have been hidden in trees at the back. This old decaying gem is a real piece of history with a tale or two tell to say the least. Hope you enjoy the video. Cheers.
Thanks to Bev who gave me the tip on this place and suggested I check it out! Cheers Bev :-)

Wow! I love love love this! If I was very wealthy, I would buy this and restore it to its former glory! Just knowing it was an old stone cottage, I would buy it sight unseen. I would also keep the pie safe, that big crock with the lid, the rolling pin, the vintage coctail glasses, that picture on the wall in the bedroom, and the old green stove. I can only imagine how very happy the first family to ever live in it was... Thanks for another great video!

That cottage is really something, Paul! :-D You can definitely see the English influence on it and the old stove is drool worthy. I would love to get my hands on the lace dress that was hanging on the hanger in the bedroom. :-D This may sound silly, but I collect old and vintage wedding dresses and loan them out to brides who cannot afford them. The dresses get to come out in their glory and the brides get to look exquisite in them. :-) I'd be doing a week's worth of cardio if I had walked into those cobwebs. lol The pie save was very nice and it's always a treat to come upon old dishes/cutlery and think of the meals and desserts that were eaten and enjoyed on/with them. :-) The "Get Well" card really takes one back to the life the lady must have lived, loved and cherished. I look forward to your next video! :-)

Yep very early cottage for sure this one Mary, must be one of the first in this spot and be historic. Wow you lending the pretty wedding dresses to brides is an amazing thing Mary, what agreat idea. I think that dress may have been one too hey? :-) Many cobwebs here haha, as long as I dont get those black ones on me im fine lol The card was a personal touch that always puts extra meaning to these places. Thanks for watching Mary :-)

@@urbexindigo5164 Hi Paul! :-D Yes, this cottage is very early and the pink paint denotes it as well. :-) It's a shame that it's run-down. It has good bones and needs some TLC and it would shine up like a new copper penny. :-) Yes, I loan antique and vintage wedding gowns to brides. It's a small way that I can give back to the community and the brides' smiling faces makes it really worthwhile. :-) I would bet you a dollar to a donut that the dress had been the lady's and perhaps she had pulled it out, reminiscing on her own wedding day or to pass it on to a daughter or grand-daughter. :-) So are the black spiders venomous? We have black widow spiders here that are venomous (their bites can kill children and the elderly) and brown recluse spiders whose bite causes tissue to necrotize. Nasty bites indeed. I've seen some of those spiders that are as big as dinner plates that you all have there. No thanks! lol In high school Biology I had to collect several different insects and arachnids (spiders) for a class project. I did get a troublesome black widow spider that had made a home in the shelter where my family's water softener was kept and I was also able to get a brown recluse. Got a good grade on the project. :-D That card was indeed a personal touch. To think of the lives lived, loved, who started a life there , friends and neighbors who came for parties, dances and fellowship. :-) I love these rural places you find. I was enjoying seeing the fresh green grass by the fence. :-)

Very nice video, Paul. I appreciate the care you take to disturb as little as possible-very respectful.
That was an old icebox just outside the bedroom(?) and I really think the dress was a wedding dress.
I think to live without running water, one would have to grow up without it to be really comfortable-that would be the sticking point for me.
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was a pretty popular American pop rock group of the late ‘60’s that disbanded in ‘71.

And oh the dusty plates on the old table, the cups lying under it, if only you had shown them to us with close-up. They are treasures too, please please show crockery to us (when possible), the pattern, the stamps under if any, the style, they too are testimonies of the past and could tell us when they were used (I guess I'm actually begging you :D) . Cheap or expensive, they fed so many people, quenched their thirst, were part of celebrations sometimes. In the video some of the bottles looked really old and precious with intriguing shapes, and the bread and pie safe was wonderful! I really love your comments in all your video, they are so positive, so respectful, never boring; you never make fun of the poor remains or belongings, we can really tell how much you care about them and their past. If everybody was like you, and many of your viewers who comment so nicely, so many beautiful houses would have been spared demolition and preserved, not in Australia but everywhere else. And there would be less horrible modern creation disfiguring nature nowadays. Thank you!

I always get sad when I see videos like this, the house just left to rot away. Personal things just left behind. I could never do this to my parents home or my grand parents. To me it's disrespectful, I can picture the old lady sitting on her verandah, all on her own, staring out onto the fields. Come hell or high water there must have been someone who could have cleared the house out. Some amazing things left behind, the metal headboard, metal cake/fruit stand on the verandah, dinning room chair (now know as mid century modern), pie safe and some of the crockery. If only I had the money to buy and restore all these old houses. Once again another amazing video Paul, many thanks.

Really neat old cottage, I think perhaps other folks might have dumped their junk (like all the tvs) into this place once it was abandoned or whatever to avoid dumping fees? Very cool find. I'm always amazed that folks don't have toliets in their homes. My hubby and I loved Gary Puckett's music. Snakes give my the chills so I'm so happy you've never stumbled upon one. Glad you aren't nervous about the spider webs and some of the creepy spiders lurking near by. Jude say's Paul's video, mum say's You need help Judith. Moving along that pie chest Amazing condition, Love Those Antiques, That green glass dish in the pie chest may be Citrine Green Uranium Glass, if it is it's quite valuable. @9:09 The metallic finish on that pot was beautiful. Wow, what an amazing old place. It’s a proverbial treasure trove from days gone by.
Now I’m not too old 😜but I can remember those tellys with the tuning dial, my grandparents had one.
When I see places like this it makes me think of the people who lived there, their lives and what happened to them to cause their home to be abandoned along with personal items. It captivates and saddens me. Thanks for sharing 🤗💕🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Good Morning Australia! I hope you and Miss Fisher are doing quite well. That is quite well from a distance....A long distance. I don't want you and Miss Fisher getting too close.
Great find. I spotted something as you walked out of what you thought to be the bedroom. I think it was an ice box. These came along in the late 1800's and were usually lined with tin, cork or zinc. What I saw, or think I saw, was lined with a material that came about a little later. The pie safe was fantastic. When you see items like these, by removing them, in my opinion, and placing them in a museum or a historical home that is open to the public, would be more of a preservation effort. All would benefit.
"What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."(Pericles) Great quote I think.
Good job mate. Miss Fisher would approve.
Side Note/Here is a great line my great grandmother used quite a bit. "We're intellectual opposites. I'm the intellectual and you're the opposite." She often said that too me. Hmmm.

What a great cottage. I always think about how many people were born, lived and died in such places, and what their lives were like. Did they long to get away or prefer to stay right there until they died? What were their passions and interests? Was the property in the same family since the cottage was built? I'll never know, but I always do wonder. Next time you come across old crockery, get a shot of the front pattern and back stamps on a plate or two. If the pattern and manufacturer can be identified, that's another clue about the residents, and some of it can be quite valuable today. In that cottage, I'll bet some of the crockery dates to the time it was built. Thanks for a great explore!

There were some amazing pieces in there, what a lovely cottage it must have been. That pie safe is something I would seriously purchase. The TV and chairs are very 1950s, the clear aqua bottles are a patent medicine bottle, and worth good money. The pie safe would fetch good money at auction. I like the armoire with shelves, but unfortunately they don’t fetch much these days. Great folk art dollhouse, that would bring serious money at the right auction. The chairs are great 1950s examples, along with the cabinet TV. I think, in its day, this would have been a really nice place to live. Was that cracked wall rammed earth? That great big earthenware jar and lid are seriously valuable (depending on condition).
Personally, I want the pie safe and kitchen tools, I collect antique kitchen gadgets and cast iron and clay cooking pots, muffin pans...just about anything to do with kitchens from any time up to the 60s, the earlier the better. I really liked this one for some reason, thanks for taking me along. I have missed you while I was away dealing with life. 🖤🇨🇦

Urbex Indigo it’s a good thing I don’t have every old piece I fall in love with, I wouldn’t be able to move. Over the years I’ve learned a fair bit about a lot of things, and it’s all fun.🖤🇨🇦

Hi Ghost Rider :-) You've got a good eye! I noticed that old boiler too and growing up, my parents had one and we'd put harvested fruit in jars then put preserve wax over the fruit to harden. The preserves lasted for ages! One year we preserved some apples from our apple trees in some large Mason jars. Those preserved apples stayed fresh for years. Several years later, my dad had a hankering for some apples and snagged the jar of preserved ones and ate them as an afternoon snack. He said that they tasted great and was happy that we had them on hand. :-) Mom and grandmother would always take their preserves to the county fair and always came home in the ribbons. :-)

I've heard of Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, "Woman, Woman", "over you", my fav. "Young Girl"...good memories. Popular from about 1967-1971. Carol Hensels seems to have been popular in the 1980s. Along with the TV's I guess you called it, someone had to have been living there as late as the 1980's. amazing. Thank you for sharing.

I think the cabinet in the living room could possibly be an old console stereo. Had to listen to Gary Puckett on something. And yes, I remember them.

This so sad that someone's life has been reduced to a pile of junk. Someone had memories in this cottage, now they're just forgotten. This place is very old you can tell by the stonework and the windows. That stove in the kitchen was definitely a antique. I do hope someone covers that well before a child or animal falls in. By the way I thought you fell a couple of times . Nice video a shout out to whomever gave you the tip. As always be careful and be safe.

It is one of the most wondered things when you come across a place like this Leslie....why was it all just left like this. the card indicates 5 children too. Very old place with so much history, should preserved and restored. thanks for watching :-)

My Mum cooked on one of those. My job was to clean out the firebox every few days, also had to chop wood & collect & split what she called "deal" (kindling) wood.

I love how you call 1850's or 1880's really really old. when i was in Switzerland i stayed in a hotel that was built in 1650. In Germany....i think...i stayed in a castle that was early 1500's. the owner actually didn't know the exact date.

I always want to save these places. Three story doll houses are uncommon. Looks like it might have been hand made. My Granddaddy made my sister and I each one, early sixties. Love Gary Pucket here in the states. That crock looked fabulous with the lid and all. Was this out in the country or close to 'civilization', if you want to call it that. The dress reminded me of prom dresses of the early 70s. Cheers mate!

Hi WindHorse, yes the dollhouse did look hand made. I do now know I knew Garry Pucket from hearing the songs haha/ Lots of neat old things in here and yes including the dress. :-)

Gary Puckett and Union Gap were late 60's. Young Girl was one of their hits. That house looks bigger outside than it was on the inside. Good find and interesting contents inside. Have fun and stay safe.

The style of the tv cabinet is mid century modern. 1950's. The pie safe is awesome. There was an electric heater in what you thought was a laundry
