@@OCTO358 Well you gotta have better skills to be able to play with better toys. Can't really expect someone who's been playing Skyrim for a couple years to instantly be good at Armored Core
There are basically two generations of Armored Core: The boost hop generation, and the quick boost generation. They're both great in their own way, but everyone has a favorite. Usually dependent on which game they started into the series on. I started with Master of Arena, so I will always have that nostalgia for the bunny hops. Which is why I like reverse joint legs in AC6 so much. Quick boosting along the ground feels very similar to the way boost hopping used to work. Which is just one of the many amazing ways From managed to bring pieces of all the old games together in AC6.
100% this. I never used chicken legs and I'm from AC2. Come AC6, however, the normal legs are garaged as soon as I get chicken legs. Something about the movement just seems more natural to me, but never figured out why. Turns out it's nostalgia lol
after many years of playing AC It's so weird just now noticing boosters heavily effecting the speed of non boosted air movement from jumping and falling. Great vid!
In AC4A Wonderful Body is an old school Raven with low AMS compatibility, and the NEXT hes given is a prototype meant to allow people like him to pilot them. In your fight with him he walks around and boost hops, and your operator comments on it saying "why is he moving like that?" He also says "NEXTs can do that? Then what am I doing!?" a little bit into the fight.
As a Gen4/5 player, I can’t imagine not having boost at all times. Major props to older players who kept the franchise alive until I was able to have a crack at em
Another point as of why bunny boosting was used back in the older gens, is because once you stop boosting, you completely stop for a full second, unless you tap again the boot button, essentially bunny boosting. So it is used not only to move with better energy usage, but also to avoid having to stop every time you boost
Exactly. You used the boosters to counter the delay from a hard landing. Made it so if you knew what you were doing you really didn't have to worry about the stability stat on your legs.
One of the best reasons to boost hop, however, is to charge your energy bar, while also not losing the momentum from just letting up on the booster. Even if you don't continue after landing, you still retain a continual movement, rather than just stopping still.
@@A-0602 Worst stop animation is in AC1-MoA, where light legs actually have a bit of a stutter in their step. Every two steps, there's a miniscule pause, but noticeable enough to really make you not want to run a lightweight build. On the other hand, Last Raven actually has more animation weirdness, wherein you can push your left analog stick (in dual-stick mode) forward not 100%, and the AC will casually walk like it's a BattleMech.
Even though it looked funny it really did come so naturally once you got to terms with the movement mechanics. I never knew that boosters affected aerial speeds in general though, or the bit about the hover legs
Seems like they realized this finally in AC6. You'll notice any timr you're in the air energy recovers slower because even if you dont hold the boost button your AC is keepin you afloat
I love the Hoverlegs. Hoverlegs are sluggish in the air, and them automatically gently landing causes a delay when you want to dash after being in the air...but in exchange, they can dash very quickly across the ground AND DEEP WATER. And while dashing, if you tap the Boost button just right, not fast enough to go from dashing to flying, the tap rate just slower then that, will let you dash more efficiently, using less energy, producing less heat, and you can change directions dramatically. Especially with Hoverlegs that have great braking ability. Non-tank legs have the Bunnyhop technique. Hoverlegs have this tap-dash technique. Practice zigzaging with your dashes in random directions. Move like you're teleporting around in short distances, like that movie Jumper, or Nightcrawler from X-Men.
Oh, and by gently landing, I mean the default ground or water hovercraft state. Hover legs do actually touch the ground when idie, or using certain back weapons when not Human+ or no OP INTEBSIFY.
Awesome vid! I will note that in 4th gen, effective RJ usage is very similar to bunny-hopping, as you QB along the ground, jump while at speed, qb in air as needed, then qb again just before touching down and jumping again. It's much more technical and timing reliant, but the principle is the same. It's a energy conservation and evasiveness rhythm, though it is not required by any other build the way that reverse joint builds do.
I use boost hopping a lot on my heavy biped build in AC6. Its slow cruising speed and high quick boost cost means a lot of times the hop is a more efficient means of avoiding simple attacks while leaving energy open for quick boosts when needed.
@tilting_cat3344 you just tap the boost button while boost is on to jump, wait to land, and then tap again to keep jumping. It consumes no energy which means you always have energy to quick boost.
