    100 Agree with your comments around Car Play. I’m on my second Tesla and truly love my car. However, I travel for business and rent cars all the time. CarPlay is damn near standard and is a huge miss by Telsa. Thank God I use Tidal for streaming, but CarPlay would be a nice feature.

      I don’t understand this criticism. There is no way Tesla could support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The Tesla operating system is so tightly integrated with the vehicle itself, there is no way they could possibly give the UI over to another operating system.

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We had some initial repairs (fit and finish issues) very early on when the car was first delivered. Trunk realignment, replacing interior a pillar, he part above the dash was discolored,and tightening a windshield wiper bolt that was loose. Also had the charge port door replaced within the first month or two as well due to a faulty sensor. Other than those early things in the first month of ownership, nothing major until our car was hit from behind and we had to have the bumper and trunk replaced. Tesla service has gotten so much better in the Raleigh area where we’re based. It was a very easy process to have them replace all the parts and blend the paint in-house.

    Not a Tesla owner, but the criticism I hear from you and others surrounding carplay/android auto is irrelevant when we're talking about Teslas.
    The OS Tesla has is far superior to carplay/AA in every way, and does the same things anyway. I seriously don't understand that criticism.

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  ปีที่แล้ว

      But it doesn’t, Tesla’s OS cannot mirror all the apps people have on their phone. For example, Amazon Music, TH-cam Music, Pocket Casts, Waze, etc. Also, Siri and the Google Assistant (for certain things like playing music) are more useful than Tesla’s voice input.
      Tesla’s software is great for a lot of things but being able to support a ton of different apps and services and play media is still an area CarPlay and Android Auto are better at. - Josh

    1000% agree software updates sometimes change too much at once and you have to re-learn how to do simple functions in the car. There was a brief period where the driver's profile wasn't in the top bar and was instead hidden in a menu. I about lost my mind with that update. I'd kill for just a plain old cruise control to not have to deal with phantom braking. And if I could just get the wiper blades on a stick by the steering wheel back, I'd be a happy lady. The auto wiper blades don't do so well with snow so those cases I'd prefer to manually adjust

    I'm going to add another dislike - noise. It's probably fine in california, but on rough northern european roads the road noise is terrible. For a car in this price range the level of sound proofing is inexcusable, and it's my primary dislike of my Model 3.
    I agree about the software updates - coming out in a morning to find that your car GUI has totally changed and you need to learn it all again is just not acceptable to me. Add features, tweak bugs yes, but don't overhaul and redesign the whole thing (and for the worse).

    No CarPlay is a deal killer for my family. The apps we use have no equivalent in the Tesla nor Google Auto environments.
    My friend has two Tesla’s (S and Y) and he has his iPhone suction cupped to the dash. Funny that he interacts with a tiny screen instead of the built in huge one. He paid $60k and $130k only to use a $10 suction cup.

      Yup. But that's what the Model Y offers. If the Y had been available back when I bought my 3, well, it would be a Y and not a 3. Problem is I am not sure I can justify a swap now when there are more utilitarian, SUV like options coming to market from other makes and we still have an ICE truck to replace. This may be our first and last Tesla if they don't offer more models soon.

    I dislike Android Auto, don't miss it in the least. Tesla streaming works great for me. Continually having my phone plugged into the car, as Android Auto requires, is not something I like. Phantom braking is a big pain; I totally agree, normal cruise control would be a great great addition. I particularly dislike that Teslas cruise control forces the windshield wipers to be on when the car detects rain. The windshield wipers go into auto mode and freak out. I never use cruise in the rain because of this. I use Rainex, generally don't use wipers. I find wipers irritating.

    Excellent points made in this video, Josh! When I ordered my Model 3 in June 2018, the base car did come with ordinary cruise control. $5,000 paid for traffic aware cruise control among many other things and $3,000 paid for the future of full self driving.

      I don't think any of these points is a "deal breaker", and I'll probably still buy one, but they don't make one any more confident in their purchase, and it certainly wouldn't help sway petrol drivers if they saw this. Cruise control and trunk dripping don't require new engineering and it looks bad when a car that costs half as much from 20 years ago has it figured out.

    If Tesla had an app store and allowed me to download TH-cam Music and Podcasts, I could live without Android Auto since Tesla's GPS is solid. I usually have Waze on in the background to notify of police. Another complaint is when I am in traffic in autopilot, it doesn't maintain a 2 car length. It's not very consistent. The full self driving is definitely not worth the extra $12,000. Luckily, I subscribed to it for only one month to find out that the only difference other summoning and self park is that it changes lanes by itself only when you signaled for it to change lanes. Also, when the windshield wipers are in auto mode and it's misting, I find that the windshield wipers either do not wipe enough or they wipe too much. The 2022 Model 3 Performance is engineered amazingly. My complaints are not with the vehicle itself, just with the software integration.

    I sum up my Tesla experience, after 1 year of 3LR ownership, in this way. As long as you just treat it as an efficient EV car/motor combo and don’t get distracted by the spurious and flawed form over function issues; a retrograde move by Tesla in more ways than I care to list here but do ask, you’ll be okay. It’s only when you try to use it as advertised that problems occur. Most of the design issues appear to be due to Tesla designers skateboarding to work in checked shirts while carrying a Latte and spending lunch breaks in sensory deprivation pods, rather than being car designers.

    The UI looks much worse now than it did when I first rode a model 3, and the more time you spend staring at it to get basic functions to work, the more danger you are to the road.
    My impala from 2007 doesn't dump water in the trunk because there's a gutter that the water flows into, and since the gutter is inside the trunk, it doesn't obstruct airflow. Why can't a brand new, luxury-priced car figure that out?

    How do you feel about the lack of buttons for simple stuff like climate control? My experience of trying to use a touch screen whilst driving is that it is much more difficult and requires a lot more concentration (away from the road) than buttons, where most of the action is done through feel. Such buttons could easily be linked to the software for a hybrid control system. Or am I wrong? What is your experience? Also, it strikes me a HUD would be nice!

    • @6MonthsLater

      I don’t mind it for climate as much because you adjust and memorize where the buttons always are on the screen for turning the temp up and down. Another thing I use that I forgot to mention is voice commands. They work very well for doing things like “turn on recirculated air” and so on. A HUD would be cool, but after 4 years, I don’t think it’s necessary to be honest. There is something very nice about the low dash in the car and being able to just watch the road and drive. For sure, my 2018 model 3 is not perfect. I am on the Beta program and while I experience phantom braking, I find that most of the time when it does it, it's just dropping a few mph so it hasn't been scary. There have been some things that for sure it needs to improve on some more, but the progress has been notable and I'm happy to offer my assistance to help make to program better. And for road trips, I do find that driving in Autopilot (as oppposed to FSD) is much less fatiguing and in some cases I find that it's safer since I can be more aware of what's happening around me knowing the car has got the basic stuff handled.
    Regarding Android Auto, my experience w/ those systems is that it takes over the whole screen so that basically over-rides the Tesla controls which would be bad. If the two could co-exist in a functional way, maybe this could be ok. But I'm perfectly happy w/ the existing UI since most of my interactions w/ the car controls is using voice activation. And the Tesla UI, I think, is really quite good, so again, I do not miss Android Auto.

      @@Dave--FkTheDeepstate First of all it's the safety aspect of not having to jostle my phone around. It's two main things related to maps for me. First is that it is easier/safer to reroute on that big screen, while driving, in case there is traffic on your normal route. I usually remember to check the route to the grocery store before I leave, so I know if there's a particular way I should NOT go. But the real keen thing I've noticed is for when I'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with. If I have a calendar event with the location filled out, Google will import that location before the calendar event, and the car will prompt me if that's where I want to go. So as long as it's in the calendar correctly, I don't make a mistake and put the wrong place in. It's the tiniest detail. But really, daily I would like to ensure I'm not about to get on a highway with backed up cars, and fuss with my phone to check it.

    Toyota just said that they would go to vision only automation. That said, there was a good reason to move away from radar. Elon just didn't pull that out of his butt. He said Tesla has tons of data where the vision system conflicted with the radar system. Upon further analysis at the Tesla mothership, the radar was found to have been wrong. Radar was not worth installing nor maintaining the software for and so all future efforts will go towards vision data collection and analysis. ps: my wish for vision would be to include thermal vision cameras to scan left and right forward for dogs, cats, deer and kids, even at night.

      I agree. The vision based system makes sense, but it should definitely be better than human vision, not restricted to it. Thermal imaging is super important for states with a lot of wildlife on the roads

    I have a Subaru with a stereoscopic dual camera system regulating my adaptive cruise control (no radar). I have had zero phantom braking incidents in my four years of ownership and I use the system daily. I have driven many vehicles that rely on radar and all of them have had phantom braking issues. I agree with Elon based on my own experience the camera system is better.

Is he a hypocrite because he can like something, but still accept it's shortcomings and be transparent and inform others about those? Is it your belief that if you love something you should keep quiet and be unwilling to talk about the things that can be improved upon?

    My perfect car is an electric sports/muscle sedan with android auto, and it's surprising that it doesn't exist yet. The model 3, mustang Mach e, and most sports cars fill 2/3 of those criteria, but none satisfy all 3. I can't imagine it being far away, so whoever figures it out will get my next purchase

    Not having Android or Apple Auto doesn’t matter to me. Tesla inbuilt Maps, Navigation, Spotify is much better and ahead than android auto.
    On top of that to let Android or Apple auto in the Tesla environment is creating opportunities for the key Tesla feature autopilot to be hacked by tons of other apps supported by those platforms

    Your IU opinions are subjective, and many like the newer UI updates. The best UI upgrade Tesla can make, is a option for parents to remove Disney+ from the infotainment menu forever! All the other infotainment stuff you start out with, frankly are lame whiny stuff. Tesla's are for driving, not for sheep-gaming. If you're being paid to throw shade on Tesla or question Elon, all the eloquent intonation and video editing in the world is not going to keep intelligent people from seeing right through you. One serious problem with your video right now is timing, right when the corrupt establishment is shaking about losing their corrupt control as a result of Elon being for the people, in everything he does and makes. You made a few Tesla related videos in your first year or two of Tesla ownership, and then hardly anything on Tesla since then until suddenly now you've somehow got to throw a little shade right after Elon gets two factories online. You're acting like paid establishment puppets, with the caliber of Ben Sulking, Doug DeMoron, Engineering MisExplained, Scotty Kilmer. Most of your points you tried to sound byte were outdated and already improved upon. It's obvious you were targeting viewers who were just beginning to do their research and don't yet know much in depth about Tesla. Your earlier videos were objective and good, but now someone has got to you - very very disappointing.
