True story I had a dying patient in my ICU, and I had allowed the whole family in to say goodbye. The patient was unresponsive, but the family members began quarreling about who was going to take what,, right over the patient. Not shamed to say I blew a gasket, kicked them all out, and read them the riot act in the hall. We ALWAYS presume that patients can hear and understand, even if the can’t show it. I’ve had comatose patients later report whole conversations. Low-life’s.

@TwinDragons310 It's a pretty old-fashioned term that basically means to tell someone what they're doing is completely unacceptable. It can also be used as a threat to mean "If you don't stop/get out, we will MAKE you. By force if necessary." The latter one is based on the very old law that inspired the term.

One day, I needed some paper when I was at his house. He goes to his office and is in there for a bit. Then he comes out with a pad of paper, and there's a post-it with my name on it. Yeah, I know a family where the parents inherited a huge amount of expensive real estate and goodies from an adult child's estate. It was an old will made before the adult child had children. The parents didn't give the grandchildren squat. But everybody got - no kidding - a cheap $5 bauble from a collection. That was it. The old folks inherited literally millions of dollars worth of stuff and the grandkids got a $5 trinket. The worst part was that the grandkids had all joked about it in advance, that that was what they were going to get, and they were right.

The connection between alcohol and lost inhibitions are social, not chemical.
They have tested this in psychological studies with 15 years old kids from western society that hasn't tried alcohol of any form, give them virgin drinks for a few hours and they'll act as they're completely wasted, lost almost all inhibitions and accountability.
They did the reverse with some 30 years old adults from a society where the connection between alcohol and lost inhibitions aren't in their society, give them shots that's not far from pure alcohol (85%) and there's no change in inhibitions or accountability.
They were completely wasted them too, but they didn't change anything except for the slurred speech, reduced control over bodily functions and poor coordination.
So intoxication really shouldn't be that "get out of jail free" card as most western societies treats it as.
It's the trained behavior from the society that gives those results from alcohol.

Chipotle story: You may have a favorite spot to sit and eat, but you don't own it (the store does) and if it's occupied, well, too bad. Other people have no obligation to move for you. But did the bf say anything at all while this was going on?
Elevator story: OP, thank you for pressing charges despite getting your headphone paid for. Hope the pooch is doing okay.
Pharmacy story: Welp, Thor will probably have bailed her out (if able) but at a minimum she's got an assault charge against her. She will have been searched both by the cops while at the pharmacy and again at the station, so if she had anything illegal on her, there's that as well. And with any luck they did a drug test on her and it came back hot. All the more fun for her.
Housesitting/ER story: OP, I hope you at least went back long enough to get your stuff out of her house.

I don't think she needs to! If Karen is still working at BK, their going to find out about this and she might lose her job over it! My guess is Karen is one of those LOSERS who peaked in HS. A Mean Girl now thrown out into the Real World and sadly OP came into her path and like the loser that wants to "relive her glory days of being Queen B" she became her target, especially after proving better then her! I'm sure she tells everyone at the BK how she "got her fired" as well! And now she's likely to get fired from BK all because she couldn't control her Ego! Doing things behind their back likely made her gain a sense of invincibility and her type ALWAYS get confuse and start acting OPENLY! I'm sure without OP around, the quality of her work became VERY noticeable, especially if OP replacement was just like OP (In being a better worker then ole lazy pants)
Hell she might not even WORK at BK anymore! She might have finally got fired and is making that "tall tale" about getting OP fired to cope with how much more her life is crashing around her! Hopefully "Thor" finally divorces the cow!" At that point, I can't see her winning anything out of that and ending up in the streets!

I know exactly what you mean.
So I am out grocery shopping with my eldest son, he was about 16 at the time. We were browsing, picking up the basics as you do, and discussing what to have for dinner. My wife was working late that night, so my son and I were discussing whether to make her something fancy or simple for dinner. While we were wandering around, I happened to see this young woman come into the store with her guide dog and cane. I didn't know her, but I had seen her around town a lot, and thought nothing more of it (The staff in this store are great at helping disabled customers). My son and I were standing at the edge of one of the aisles out of the way of other customers, just about having decided on something simple for dinner, when suddenly my son took off like a missile, just as I heard a dog yelp in pain. I turned around just in time to see my son beating the crap out of moron. Now my son is not tall, about 5ft 7in, but he is built like a wrestler. I managed to get to him and pull him off the moron, and asked what the hell was going on. Seems that my son had turned around just in time to see moron kick the guide dog 'out of his way'. Never in my life have I ever seen my son so angry. Manager and cops appear, moron is arrested for attacking a service animal, fortunately the dog was not injured, just got a fright. Cop comes over to my son and says 'There is no need to kill them, just try to go a bit easier on them if ever there is a next time'. Then the cop turns to the moron, and I have never since seen a colder look on someones face such as the one the cop had. Never did find out what happened to moron, since we didn't have to go to court, since the whole thing was caught on CCTV.

Instead of going up to the person and having a conversation I'd tell my friend where I knew the person from and my friend would approach them and start a conversation and when the person was trying to figure out who my friend was say something along the lines of "we were in X class together." (my friend wasn't in that class, I was). 90% of the time the person would act as though they remembered my friend even though they'd never met him before. We did the same thing if my friend recognized someone and I didn't know them.

That kind of behavior is completely off the rails, and I'd be thrilled to hear what a Judge would have to say towards an insane Karen like that, because I'd imagine the reprimand she'd be getting would be pretty dang harsh!

And I can totally relate to op about being upset having to go to a hospital where you lost a parent…definitely not easy to do. Oh and one more thing: at least she avoided having to do anything like give a crazy cat medication or scoop up dead baby bunnies left in front of the house (which I did once and then never the cat out again) when I cat/house sat once.

Unfortunately, the story about the grandma is a very common one. Someone I used to know went into their grandfather's house and found him dead in his chair. They went through the pockets of the clothes he was wearing, his wallet and the rest of the house before calling the doctor! They apparently cried at his funeral, but I think that was because they didn't find much.

Story 2: we had a funny story like that in my family. When my cousin was a little girl, she admired a jewelry set my grandma was wearing. She asked "Grandma, can I have that when you die?" Grandma said yes. Then my cousin asked "Just in case you forget, do you want to give it to me now?" Grandma got quite a chuckle out of it and liked to tell the story now and then to tease my cousin over her audacity.
Many years later, when Grandma was cleaning out her house to move into my aunt's guest cottage, she gave away a lot of her extra stuff so she could downsize and no one would have any hard feelings over "stuff." She did give the jewelry to my cousin, so I guess being a precocious beggar can pay off in the end. 😄
