I love Neil's voice, you could recognize it anywhere.
Neil tennant is the complete musician , can do it all and yes his voice is very unique every word is crystal clear ,nicely spoken dude , the younger generation of musical talent could learn a thing or two from this musical genius 🙏
Yes, Neil's voice so recognizable!❤
Absolutely!
It’s not his original style and amazing how distinct it became. There was an interview recently where he stated how he refined it based on interviews when he was journalist for a pop magazine
Bernards voice is pretty unique also.
Damn, 34 years later, this song remains so fresh, so vibrant and atmospheric ... It kills me to eternal joy. Masterpiece.
totally fresh
Joy Division,The Smiths and The Pet Shop Boys.3 of the greatest bands of all time together. What more can you ask for.Genius
Joy Division/New order.
Plus a little bit of Psychedelic Furs.... 😆😆😆😆
producer: ABC
and Soft Cell
New order *
I'm 57 these years of music were the best. I love this song. Just brilliant.
Same, and agreed.
Yep...grunge had some quality music but eventually killed a great musical era
Absolutely I'm 59 we were in a wild era. Gen x saw the end of punk that grew into post punk, goth and new wave/alternative. The end of disco that morphed into club music. And the birth of rap/hip hop
And that's just a part. There were those smash hits/bands ...loads of pop Great times. My favs were and still are Depeche Mode,The Cure and New Order. But I love The Clash,Blondie,Devo and the B52S
Me too im 57. 58 in the coming months. 👍
57 here too. Maybe I'm too nostalgic but stuff like this is 99% of what I can bear to listen to.
pet shop boys, new order, the smiths.... what a legendary mix
Morrisey 😊👍
Anne Dudley (Art of Noise) did the string arrangement
when Neil Tennant is your back up singer you have an over abundance of talent in your band
And on top of that, Johnny Marr.
Agree!! Without Tennant it wouldn't have been a hit.
It's an intentional Super Group... has my 3 favourite artists of all time. It was written by all 3.
Rockwell and Michael Jackson
@@carlosgalvez9312 without tennat it would have sounded lilke Mozart, he sounds like a boring annoying mumbling
Who is still listening to this masterpiece in 2024 after covid 19, social media, the death of good pop music and the world heading for a fall?
Looks like your getting away with it.
Me, pure genius 😊

Yes rediscovered this sing, forgot his good it is
Sensacional! Dá um aperto no coração de tanta saudade.😢
33 years old and still feels so fresh
I'm 71......Love it .!!
25 here, my da would always play it. LOVE IT
50 here, remember when this first came out, still love it.
Defo..
It’s a brilliant song with three fantastic musicians
It's time for another Electronic album.
Neil Tennant on backing vocals and Johnny Marr on guitar.
To say that Electronic had too much tallent is an understatement.
Its a rip off of rita lee atlantida. All that talent for a cheap sounding copy.
Electronic is the only "super group" that was worth a damn!
Yup. Johnny Marr, Neil Tennant, & this guy from New Order.
Crazy how Bernard Sumner can go from Joy Division to New Order then Electronic capturing a similar sound yet slightly more modern each time. I feel myself being obsessed with this song after following all 3 groups.
Released on 4 December 1989. Truly the last great song of the ‘80s.
Hello Kitty Lover Man! Thank you for the correction. Corrected with help from the “Grammar Guru.”
newsroom.unl.edu/announce/snr/2789/15239
Yeah.maybe yeah
I remember when it released. KROQ in L.A. used to play it of course it helped Johnny Marr was in the band
Fabulous song. But it shares the title with the Sundays' "This Is Where the Story Ends," also a 12/89 release.
@@carlhorowitz6321 The title of that title is "HERE'S Where the Story Ends" :)
The production of this song is impeccable. Strings, synth and a Spanish guitar, Bernard and Neil… what’s not to love! Such an uplifting track.
bass line is *clean. as. fuck.*
@@EconAtheist Marr's fingerprints all over that - always thought it was weird to have him as the central partner in a very electronic (no pun intended) act, but he probably contributed a lot more than just guitar and writing - he might be a wizard on the synths for all we know.
Paul dagger from Bristol?
Anne Dudley (Art of Noise) arranged the strings. There is an instrumental version as well which I love :)
What about Johnny?
There is no way in the world to express just how wonderful and meaningful this song is to me. It will forever be my favorite. Never ever getting tired of this. MAGIC!
Agreed! Timeless
The piano and bass intro is just divine 👌
I could just leave this song on repeat all day
Did you ever hear the Johnny Marr version with his solo band?
I have. When this first came out, this track lived in my head. My neighbors hated it.
@@krillin876he played it when I saw him!! So good
Yep.
Me too.
The greg wilson version is really good for this!

Love this song, make's me sad remembering the good times when life was free and easy and nothing mattered
Sad but true. Wow...wish I was a kid again when this was out
well..dont forget broke
Forget people and live your life
Ross you're so right now look at the planet....MISERABLE!!! We are lucky to have enjoyed those fantastic years!!
Word!!
This song is an absolute classic just by its simplicity. To add Neil Tennant is a work of genius. He actually makes it magical.
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever made, really.
It's up there with the best.
Yes I think it is
Brilliant
English talent. North west
💯❤
All of these 3 bands rocked, Johnny on the Guitars, Neil Tenant and Bernard Sumner totally killl it. We need these guys to come back with some new tracks ! it's almost 2023 come one guys who wants to see Electronic with some new tracks ?
I approve this message ⬆️
Two of the best vocals ever put together.
Timeless.
Ever❤️
It's wonderful isn't it, even back then as a 13 year old kid I loved both bands, this was a firecracker of a combination. I didn't really know much about the Smiths then but I did when they released their hits compilation in 1992, and that also ensured I knew Johnny Marr was a genius too.
Nowadays, nobody knows their names, unless you had a parent, who brought their kids up to appreciate true music!
Two of the best non-singing singers ever.
@@kildogery one of the most non-sense comments ever
Why do these songs wake you up and realise that Manchester music is so soulful, real, grounded and very much sad….. great city and missed so much ❤️
Brilliant song, Neil Tennant has a fantastic voice
The bit at the beginning where he looks to his left and obviously sees someone he cares about and his face lights up. Truly beautiful, i love that bit ❤
That's what I honestly noticed as well.🙂
Yes, it's just made me smile hugely.. Lovely.
I always wonder who he's smiling at.
Moments like this are so... human.
It was authentic too. That’s probably why they left it in. Bless.
Me too , that little smile he gives. Priceless
Pet Shop Boys + New Order = PERFECTION
And Jouhhny Fucking Marr!!! You can totally hear him throughout this song!

Take me back.
Better than anything that's came out last couple of years for certain.

I totally agree
One of my favourite songs of all-time. When life was free and easy.
This song still rocks 30+ years later
I will NEVER get sick of this song!!!
The whole album was good, right?
Renato Queiroz Filho yep indeed.
it's catchy but, let's face it, it would have never made the cut on a psb or new order album because it's simply not as priceless as what they did with their principal bands.
just a great "feel good" tune
Disappointed is a much better Electronic song.
Bernard Sumner, Johnny Marr, and Neil Tennant. There's Brit pop royalty. I had no idea these people were behind this track.
Gil Orms Oh yes sir! Some of the best of the best. This album has been classic staple in my collection since 1992.
Gil Orms and Anne Dudley. Listen to the orchestration, sound familiar. ABC Lexicon of Love.
I consider 'Britpop' a pejorative. New Order, Pet Shop Boys and the Smiths were so far above and superior to Britpop (which came along in the next decade, by the way)
I think Gil’s comment just related to British Pop artists not the Brit Pop era. This was released way before. This and album it was on is still a stone cold classic to this day......
1990
Soundtrack to my life, literally
Sadly, me too…
Amen@@sylviaochoa4527
I was in a wine bar in Hale, Altrincham, near Manchester in the mid ‘80’s. Bernard Sumner was in close conversation with Neil Tennant on the next table.
I said to my girlfriend, “The outcome from this conversation could be interesting.”
Well, just wasn’t it?
Electronic. What a band.
Probably Bernard saying I can get Johnny Marr on board. Is there anything more Manchester then this band,Smiths,Joy Division,New Order in 1 band.Like if Cantona, Keane & Best combined to be greatest player ever.
@@HenryWaltonJones I think Tennant is from the Newcastle upon Tyne area? Still a brilliant track in my opinion.
this is a legendary story. i'm 27 right now, but i would die to be able to live out such an epic event.
@@paulluce2557 But Chris Lowe is originally from Blackpool, so Neil's kinda Manc' (or Lancastrian, at least) by proxy, yeah...?!

I love how Neil comes in as almost a bored outsider two minutes in, but he was never being boring.
Love how you tie another beautiful song into your response! 💕🎶😎

I guess this song was a New Life for Neil eh?
He had too much time for himself.

sumner marr and tennant, can’t go wrong with that lineup
This song is so elegant and classy! The melody flawlessly done. Voices excellent.
The middle guitar solo and the strings have always melted my heart Really an awesome pop song.
I absolutely love New Order/Joy Division, Pet Shop Boys, and The Smiths. They're all some of my favorite bands and I'm only 17, and to see a song with a few of my favorite musicians collaborating to make basically the equivalent to a new wave symphony... man, I wish I could've lived back then.
It was a trip and a guide for sure!
You have the advantage of mining perfect music gems like this from the 80's and 90's which contrast starkly with the fake junk jewelry of today. I grew up when the Beatles invaded America and never heard this song from 1989/1990 until 2022. Refreshing and beautiful. Everything in its own time.
it was great. We made mix tapes of this and cruised all night. And speed cameras had not yet been invented. Wish you could have been there !
@@richardclarke376 Hahaha, there were speed camera's in the 80's in my country but not many, and that changed alright.
We don't even have parking police walking around anymore but a car with camera's that work waaaaaaaay faster.
Hell, the 80's were a time where life was simple and affortable and we could we do anything we wanted,
so we were really free alright!
You're on the right track, Noah. Keep being awesome.
I wish I could put into words the emotions this song brings up in me. I’m now 60 and this takes me back to the 80 in warp speed. San Francisco, the clubs, the parties, living my best life-unstoppable.
60 here too mate just gone bring back the 80s ay ❤
Everyone that comments on these 80s bangers is great , we grew up in the best time
1989-90 was a mysterious, hopeful and happy time in my life.
I was born in 2005, I just have good taste thanks to my mother, born 1973.
Clothes, hot hatches, no mobiles, no Internet, no speed cameras, rammed pubs rammed clubs miami vice and to tie it all together the music with recreational and everyone each other . I was 19 in 89 and lived like we all did to enjoy.
In 1977, I was 22, and music took a seismic shift with Punk Rock, and the contrast of New Wave. By 1978, New Wave was my preference. I was 25 in 1980, and 30 in 1985. Living in Los Angeles, I bought Getting Away With It as an import UK CD single. The song with always sparkle. Today is the first time I saw the video!!
Now you also know, many fans of this song didn't grow up in the 1980's. I just follow the music, decade after decade, buying it, and supporting bands and recording artists by seeing them in concert. Today, since the first decade of this century, I'm seriously into Alternative/Indie music. Fortunately, I've lived long enough to own and continue listening to music I've loved since 1960.
Agree❤️
Heard this song for the first time on the radio not knowing whether it was pet shop boys or new order. hadn't considered it was both of them...with johnny marr.

Wow, amazing how well this sound has aged. Loving it again after setting it aside for like 30 years.
New Order, Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys was my holy trinity of music I'd listen to in late 80s to early 90s. When Electronic happened I was blown away. I wish they had made more albums.
Whenever they sing, "all my life," it reminds me of the chorus in the song "Love My Way," by The Psychedelic Furs. Who agrees?

Probably not, just more ignorant
I wish that people would stop moaning about the current times all the time. All those who thought that the eighties were happier than that twenty tens are those who will also say that the twenty tens were happier than the twenty forties. Every decade has its good and bad times and while the eighties were probably better than the seventies, the eighties were riddled with financial recessions. Perhaps they should read some history books about life in the nineteenth century to see how good they have it in the twenty-first century.
The world is a happy place now!
