One of the greatest songs ever made in all of human history. It sounds like a lullaby, which has been elevated by the synth pads. The drum pattern invites you to dance but the backing vocals and ambience are almost too cerebral. So you just stand there in utter shock at how stunning this song is.
@@Atl-jv1kw yeah I understand you trying to be smart about that. If you would try to define 80s and 90s music and their individual traits, then you would find that song to be a characteristic 80s song. But you want it to be precisely after your parameters or parameters you think are the right ones. Like when it predominantly played in the radio or was in the charts. Alright, you are 100% right, we are wrong.
Rest in Piece Andy. You founded the band which lead my parents to meeting each other, getting married, and then eventually have me. When my dad told me, I put this song on and cried.
It'd sweep all the awards if it came out yesterday. Not as much high-level competition these days (greedy music industry execs' fault rather than the artists themselves, of course). They simply don't have the production and promotion budgets that used to be commonplace.

You can tell how much a song moves you. I'm a 64 year old man and when this song came out, I was blown away. I actually did this at a karaoke last year. I'm not a great singer by any means, but I can carry a tune. LOL. Anyway, I had the crowd at the pub up dancing. I was quite flattered. My son and daughter were there with their mates and my wife. It was my birthday and I had a few. This is the only reason why I got up. We had a lot of fun.
Depeche Mode is such a great band. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. I would love your input on our cover of their song Heaven. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me : th-cam.com/video/iueez-RjNaM/w-d-xo.html

Wish I could hear it the way it sounded in the 80s. I like Depeche Mode but this song just sounds very 80s to me, though I think some of the melodies would still fly. It’s the synths bouncing around everywhere that my ears doesn’t like. Haven’t listened to it with headphones tho so, maybe just sonics.
@@jadeemerson301although I agree this song fits in better with the 1980s culturally and aesthetically, however I disagree with you characterisation that the year 1990 was also more akin to the 80s. It's s murky thing to define decades culturally, but in saying that I think the year 1990 stands out as a significant marker in the trajectory of cultural trends that we would later define and identify as '90s'. Pop culture in the 80s was larger than life and very camp and theatrical, 90's was also camp but in a more sexual, less 'quirky' way. 90s was defined as a more casual and relaxed counterpart to the 80s, adopting a 'less is more' sophistication. Pop music was becoming more 'urban' with the growing popularity of rnb and hip hop which was just beginning to dominate the charts. New wave was dead by 1989, and a lot of those artists eithef went more Goth, dream pop or they went more techno which was also beginning to make a significant impact on the charts and the cultural shift. Synths were replaced with droaning, distorted guitars with no instruments distinguishable from another in genres like grunge and shoegaze. The stereotype of the gen x 'slacker' was also defined as a significant cultural shift. Madonna's masterpiece film clip to 'Vogue' is a perfect example of this more refined shift, camp but more mature. Same thing applies to George Michael's 'freedom'. Sinead O'Connor's mesmerising cover of prince's 'nothing compares 2 u' dominated the charts in most countries, this song was influential in the 'female singer songwriter' that would become massive in the 90s. Groups like Blackbox were also making their mark on the culture and the sound, especially with the piano house sound that would go on to be a staple in eurodance which exploded in the early 90s. I could write an essay on this but I won't bore everyone to death here.

80s and early 90s was the best music of all time. Night clubs during those years was absolutely the best. The girls just seemed to pop up everywhere. Smiles and kindness was all a growing young man needed. I’m almost 50 now and can still feel the youth while driving on a warm summer night listening to 80/90s music.

Fun fact: Last night as I lay in bed watching House of Versace, a very fat moth flew into my bedroom window. I located the moth by noticing a loud pecking sound against the walls and ceiling. It was trying to find its way out, apparently. So, I didn’t kill the moth. I gave it a chance to leave as I continued watching the movie. After finishing the movie I played one last song before bed. People are People by Depeche Mode. When I woke up the next morning the moth was gone. I’m assuming it didn’t die and fall behind some furniture😎

One of the greatest songs ever made in all of human history. It sounds like a lullaby, which has been elevated by the synth pads. The drum pattern invites you to dance but the backing vocals and ambience are almost too cerebral. So you just stand there in utter shock at how stunning this song is.

Depeche Mode wrote some of the grittiest and beautiful lyrics. Superb track. 80s English bands were on another level. Timeless masterpiece
Song was made in 1990
@EpicAndrew I am aware of that, I said "80s bands"....
I think Depeche Mode is very underrated.
@@EpicAndrew971990 was still the 1980s culturally.
Finding inner peace is an endless journey. I love this band! Always have always will.
This music has never lost its revelance nor its influence. It really was and remains a timeless classic.

Asteria Vajrayogini Ah bless you, I lost my father two years ago, it gets easier but you’ll never forget him x
there’s no words to explain the feel this song gives me.. that guitar.. is truly beautiful especially his voice. god i love music
Melomanie 🤍
As you should ..i never seen it as you just describe..and it's wow..thank you
Was never really into DM but violator is an album I still listen to today clean speaks volumes (and the rest)
100% agree
Yeah there is a certain ambience in there, feels almost spiritual
Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Enjoy the silence
Thank you to share this lyrics. I can undestand now what Depeche Mode speek.
Katrin Katrin thank you

80s videos were just so random. And I miss it.

@@nicolasleblanc4663 Me too!
Absolutely one of the best bands of that decade. Their music remains provocative and highly listenable
which decade? 80s or 90s? i think they nailed it in both decades to be honest but this is a bit in the middle as it was recorded in '89 and released in '90…
@@jonnylpenman not the op but late 80s decade lol n2o
Yea yea...Democrats are trash
Superb >>!
One of the best all time!

Gotta love it when a writer points out the uselessness of words.
The 90's wasn't a decade it was an emotion! 💞👌😊👍
This song makes you happy, sad and hopeful just... Masterpiece
HAPPY 🥰💕❣️
SAD 😭💔☹️

The song I choose to start the year.
Have a nice 2020 you all.
Edit: Well, 2020 is shit. Let's hope things get better next year. Until then, stay safe, wear a mask and keep listening to good music like Enjoy The Silence.
I started my 12020 with this song too)
Same👱🏻♀️
Or it might have been Strangelove. I don’t know. All I know is that I’ve been listening to the same 5 songs (all Depeche Mode) since the year began 🤣

Clayton Duarte words are very unnecessary
This video just hits on so many different levels. It's atmospheric. It's absurd. It's beautiful. It's sad. It's happy. It's meaningless. Just a brilliant concept set to a brilliant song.

If you listen it's not meaningless you lack the knowledge or open mindednes to get.
Geniously, dear
This video used to play up on the screen in clubs
One of the greatest songs ever written. And it's not even Depeche Mode's best one. That shows how magnificent this band is.
Which DM songs do you rate higher?
@@Forestgravy90, In Your Room, Mercy in You, Stripped, Higher Love, Fly on the Windscreen, Barrel of a Gun, Walking In My Shoes, Rush.
@@parallel23s fair play i don't think any of those are as good personally
But i see you enjoy the one with more focus on vocals/less keyboards and synths -barrel of a gun is nice
To me the best ones are enjoy the silence, kleid 7, suffer well, walking in my shoes, policy of truth, blue dress, strangelove and i really like heaven to be honest
@@parallel23s talking absolute shit on both counts
This sounds quite modern. Truly ahead of its time.
are you the bother of carrie?
@Karl Pilkington it has always kinda been like that
@@TheWatcherTHFC I feel like people just don't know anymore where to find good music. Because, duh, you don't find good music by simply listening to whatever trending playlist on spotify or radio.
Makes me kind of sick that people say there is no good music anymore.
I think cause music over the past few years has tried to emulate the 80s. Even though this song is 1990, it sounds like it typical of 86/87.
It's about love, emotions.... that's why is always True.
Seriously, one of the greatest songs ever written!!
Migliori di sempre ❤
This song came out 34 years ago and still a hit
If mankind survives we will be listening to this in 200 years as we listen to Mozart xx
The 80s & 90s are the best This one is for eternity , agree?
ummmm acktually this song is from 1990

Actually spelt this way
especially for those baby boomers.
The 70s were the peak for music though
@@genericguy_ right too...got those Funky town stuffs, the sugar hill gang and the New Waves from Europe to spice things up. Clubing then was more fun and safe than what we have today.

I grew up listening to this song, and am I tired of it yet? Nope. It’s one of those few songs that you can never get sick of.
update: 2023 now and i’m still not sick of it
sameee i grew up with this and its so good!
I remember I hate the song when I was a kid then later on I like it that happened to most of my dad songs lol and my mom's when I was a kid I hate my dad's songs but love my mom's songs but now it's in reverse lol 😂
Nicely constructed piece of music. Something uplifting about it. Particularly that guitar riff

If you’re still listening to this your a legend 😉
This is my personal anthem as an introvert and loner. At least I'm able to enjoy the silence on my own without all the drama, wrong relationships and wrong people in my life. In some ways, it's good to be a loner because you don't have to worry about trying to fit in or impress people. You're free to be you, free to do your own thing and free to rule your own world as a king/queen just like the lead singer in the video.
Oi!
Sexual panic😂😅
as Simon Templar says about agent Spode. he's a loner. and that makes him something special.
