I remember that in the Plaza Pasadena Mall in Pasadena (CA) at The Broadway they had a TV in the men's department and played Music Videos and this one they played a lot when it came out. I agree 80’s is dope. Personally I say early 2000’s, rock was still a relevant category, alternative was killing it, hip hop began taking over the music sphere, pop music was still enjoyable and edm began its rise.

Why
Because when we were just little children, we were all equals. Now we're grown up and someone's your boss or your customer, someone's poorer or richer than you. People will judge your religion or treat you differently because of your colour. That's just how the world works. But we all had a time - around when we were toddlers - that we could talk and play with each other without caring who they are. (that's my understanding of it anyway)

The legacy of Ian Curtis. First came Joy Division, created in the post-punk era . The remnants of Joy division formed New order, that inspired many dozens of northern rock bands, , the stone roses, Oasis etc.

I was born in '96 in the UK and my mom was very music focused. I've heard all the popular tunes of the 80's but its always great to now and again to discover new music from 40 years ago. She was more into rock than anything else so Maiden, Sabbath and that but I heard blue monday on repeat growing up.

Just think this song is 37 years old and still beats most songs released today. That's equivalent of the Tennessee Waltz released in 1950 by Patti Page doing well in 1987.
I recently took 4 of my 5 kids to a New Order concert. They were raised listening to them, ages 33-13 ( the one that missed it was travelling abroad ). People around us were impressed that my 13 yr old knew EVERY WORD to all the songs. Proud & grateful mommy for these beautiful souls that appreciate one of my fave bands of all time! 😊💜

I was 12 years old and living in Brazil when I first heard this song on our local FM station. I was immediately taken by it and ran to the record store to buy the record. How an English rock band can write a song that touches the soul of a Brazilian teenager 7 thousand miles away speaks volume about New Order. One of the greatest rock bands ever. Transcendent.

There honestly is something otherworldly and magical about this particular track. I first heard it on the radio in 1987, and it seemed that time itself had come to a halt, and I asked "what is this?" And then a week or so later I saw the video on MTV and knew that it was for me. I bought the cassette and have loved NO ever since. Joy Division too, of course.

This line always makes me think of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, only there's no real road. There's no path, no map, nothing is important except every step as we take it. We stay in the past or get held hostage by the idea of the future, thinking of what we were or should be. As someone who feels doomed by the possibility of a future that does not suit me, this line is a comforting reminder that the concept of 'destiny' is not unshakeable. If you spend your life thinking the day will never come, you might be missing the day as it happens because your gaze is too far ahead. If you try to get back to the childhood you lost, you'll just let time fly past you and you'll lose that too.
Carpe Diem, and may you listen to more music that sounds this good while also playing with the morbid concept of being caught under the influence of time.

New Order is such a euphoric band, they know what they're doing. I'm 13 and even I love them, that's how timeless they are!
I’ll give a fun story. I’m 50 and took my 18 year old son to see them back in March. About half the audience was my age and grew up with New Order. The other half of the audience was in their 20s. All of these songs came out long before they were born. Us old folks sat down but the crowd in their 20s. Stood up and danced for the whole concert. It was amazing. I wanted to tell all of the 20 somethings that they don’t need to ever wonder what it was I like back in the 80s because their energy that night was like a time machine. For that 90 minutes we all were there. If you can feel the music. Then you’re there too. ❤

Everybody was singing and dancing and it was overall one of the best experiences of my life. Although I never lived as a teen in the 80s (obvi), I felt like it in that moment, just dancing, everybody's energy was beautiful. Meaningful music brings people together. 💞

I believe that new music is so crappy because it can no longer be original. It’s also been monetized and so the magic in music has died. So I just listen to the “oldies”. My parents told me I was an old soul while I was growing up, and it’s true by the way I dress and the music I listen too lol. 80’s and 90’s goth right here!

During the pandemic lockdown I found an old box of cassettes by the side of the road with a FREE sign on it. In there was a recording from a Montreal radio station circa 1990 and this song was on it and it saved me. Thank you to whoever put that box out there. You changed my life ❤

The 1980's music video scene was such a vibe that the avant garde art style gave us such surreal aspects as this as well as Patrick Nagel, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. I'm glad I got to see this music video when it first came out on MTV back 1987.
These guys are pioneers. Awesome song. We had it so good in the 80s with all the great music that I think we took it for granted.

My childhood was the waning yrs of epic music.
By the time i was 17 the state of music was already turning into marketed propaganda.
There was great songs in the 80s but so much shit too. So artificial and no depth. It overshadowed the great alternative hits tbh

All the 1980's were special filled with great music. Although i was born in the middle 50's and was experienced in so much classic music that i can say I appreciate all good music. I tend to go for the 60's and 70's

Personally I think most 60s music is too simple, with a few notable exceptions such as mid Beatles, 70s great, 80s the best but most people like the music they grew up to most

Wrong. The 80's everythinged. Thats what was so great about that era, every type of music was exploding, all at once. Metallica and Skinny Puppy at the same time, and those are just two examples.
