    For anyone having an issue with the "Generate Rig" button not appearing, the reason is that you need to leave Edit Mode and go into Object Mode. The video's transition at the 9:29 mark glossed over this part.

    FOR SECTION 12:37 TO CLARIFY, attaching the model to the rig: "to attach "it" to the model?" the it here he is referring to is the actual rig that was created and not the meta rig we used to create the metarig, so if you cant see the option it is because you selected the wrong rig, hope this helps someone else that got stuck here too. if you read this russell, great tutorial but you seem to suffer from the SAME issue every other tutorial maker on youtube has, too fast and glossing over. you really gotta make everything into baby steps for people who don't use the software every day. perhaps also using shortcuts should be avoided in your tutorials and manually selecting options from dropdown menus should be favoured. thanks again for the tutorial great work!

      Thanks man! Good luck with retopo, it can be a beast if you do it by hand, but once you get through it it makes the model easier to texture, rig, and animate. There are some free automatic retopology tools like Instantmesh that can help make it a little easier too.

  • @symionjohn4219

    Hey do you know why my bones aren't connected to my model and when I move the rigs the bones stay in place

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In this video I only parent the model to the rig and not the armature. You can parent the model to the armature directly if you want the bones to move but you will lose the rig and all of the color-coded handles that facilitate animation and posing.

    I’m having issues after parenting the object. What I go to move the rig with grab it follows but when I go to move the individual pieces of the rig, like bend the arm for example, the character doesn’t move/bend.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm that's a tough one, so in Pose mode, when you select and move the entire rig, the whole model follows? But when you grab just one element/handle of the rig, nothing follows?

    • @nearbynightmare229

    Great tutorial. But I got the following message: "Failed to find solution for one or two bones." Did some research on error message but unable to get it to work. I missing something -- have your run into this problem?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mmm yea it can relate to bone heat weighting. Some possible solutions would be to 1. scale up your model, as it may be too small for the bones for weighting, or 2. tab into edit mode, select all the vertices, press F3 for the search menu and type in "merge" and then select "merge by distance", sometimes if you have too many overlapping vertices this can cause weighting

    I’m sure this is super simple, but I keep having a few issues pop up as I try to follow the steps. I apply the mirroring on the x axis and then move things, MEGA sized armatures appear across the axis, also when I try to rotate things, say the hand, all of the bones rotate simultaneously and disconnect from each other. And lastly, when I generate the rig, it keeps moving the controls to other areas and making them different sizes? I’ve cleared all transformations and tried resetting the object origin to center of mass. Anyone know how to fix these issues?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, very strange! The only thing that comes to mind is that you maybe have your Transform Pivot Point (icon is along the top of the viewport, to the left of the Snapping icon) set to something other than Bounding Box Center. Perhaps Individual Origins. This would cause the odd rotation issue you seem to be having.

    • @camprey
      @camprey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just figured it out! Your character is probably not aligned to the X axis. The mirror option only works on the X axis apparently

      @@Tsero0v0 I did, but I tried so many different things that I forget what ended up working in the end. I know I tried the suggestions in the comments here, but I think I might have also ended up disconnecting the armature altogether, making sure everything had the scale and rotation properly applied, and then redoing it. Sorry, hopefully that helps. I should have commented when I fixed it.
