The guy that is crying is the original artist and in the show he stated that this is about his parents divorce. But Floor put everyone in tears.
The other band is called Northward, but she also had bands before Nightwish called After Forever and ReVamp
was Rubens song originally sang in dutch. Floor and her sister translated it to english. It was a song written by him to cope with his parents divorce.
Ruben is only 20 years old.

Floor and her sister, Irene translated it into English and did change a couple of things. She will have 2 more songs and then the last show they sing in duets.
Floor is from another world. I do not think that I have heard someone that can sing songs from almost every genre out there. Nightwish was really lucky that the stars lined up right for them to get Floor. Thank you so much for doing this video............. :-)

Yep, Nightwish was lucky when they got her. BUT also we are lucky that Nightwish got her, cos being part of Nightwish that has spread her talent over this planet and now many people can enjoy her singing !
We Nightwish people already had the Bach/Keats of our time composing and writing and now a vocalist that can sing whatever he want's to compose and that is why she is so awesome. :)
Floor has an amazing voice, exceptional technique, one of the best live performers in the world. But what i think that turns her in a goddess is the emotions that she always put when she sings. It goes straight trough your heart! Every single time she sings!
See the show translations by Denise Hofs. The back stories make the songs much clearer as to what they are about and why each artist chose that particular song. It was a very emotional night for Ruben. Emma Heester started it off and then when it was her turn Floor drove it home. But he pretty much cried through the first 4 artists. Samantha came fifth and had everyone singing along. She made some changes to the very first song that he wrote on his own. And finally Henk Poort closed the show out. The one he did was deliberately in the USA country music style and he really surprised the others.

Dudes, You need to react to the long videos for Beste Zangers 2019. There is discussion before and after the performance which will not only explain the context but why they choose to do the song. If you do this, you will absolutely fall in love with Floor as a person, especially when they sing to her. Don't rely on others to "tell" you what they think, because they cannot include the emotional context which is so important to Floor. And have a box of tissues handy, you will need them.
It’s kind of that 70’s proto-country / soul / jazz thing that a lot of singer/songwriters used back then. Like Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, John Denver, James Taylor and such used to do. Bette Midler and Barbara Streisand sang a lot like this too.
Totally fits right into Midler's "The Rose" lane.

The Flawless soulful and mournful vocals of the Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen just squeezes the tears out of many a listener with this song written by the Rubens (on the sofa) about his parents divorce. Brian I agree this is more Country and you are too young to remember the great Patsy Cline, who sang these songs of lament about all her missed loves, she left some memorable songs before she died in a plane crash at age 30!! Tonight Floor sounded like that Angel had returned for one more ballad. I can see Floor in a small cabaret full of the brokenhearted watering their drinks with their tears as Floor rips them emotionally apart with these songs!! Great reaction guys, so what's next, we had German, Dutch, Spanish and now English so how many more language lessons do we need from the Dutch dynamo who tonight with only a small studio band made the heavens cry with that gift she shares with her fans every time she sings!!

Imagine the one of the best singer in world rewriting your song and singing it back to you, for a young artist. She gave him some fresh air and motivation I'd imagine. Very cool, and very altruistic attitude from Floor. Then, why not!
Brian and Stan. Yes we Nightwish fanbase are losing our minds seeing her kill it on this show. I think even most of us are impressed, and we've known, believe me we have known what she's capable of. But she's pushing that even further now. Stan, you said she's the Michael Jordan of singers, yes you got that right, she's the MJ, she's the LeBron.
She is the one and only Queen Floor, and you know what is even more crazy, is that Nightwish brought her in as a REPLACEMENT singer at first, just to finish a tour up when things didn't work out with a previous singer! Well things worked out for her in this way. Sometimes I'm emotional because of the song, other times I'm just appreciating what she's been through in her own musical career. Before Nightwish she had a pretty serious nervous breakdown, this was around 2011. So to see her now, slaying it in ever way possible, with the emotions, with her technique, her power and her complete control of her voice. She's just amazing. A little tip for Beste Zangers... The person on the center couch (with the host) is always the spotlighted artist. All the other singers will be singing to them, either their own music or something that is special to them in some way.

Not only can you hear Floor on the "Northward" album but also with "Ayreon" & "Star One", both featuring her sister Irene. Floor actually wrote the majority of the Northward album with Pagan's Mind guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad in 2008, but could not record due to complications involving the end of her other band "After forever" and their subsequent commitments to their other bands. They rewrote some stuff and released it in 2018.
I've been watching lots of Floor reaction videos...she's now my favorite vocalist. Not because of technical ability, which she slays, but because of emotional impact....that's the good stuff.

All the singers in Beste Zangers 2019 are really good. For 8 weeks long, every week there is a new episode. You will see in this show that every singer tries to sing every song in their own way. Even though all the music genres of the singers are really different, with this program they try to show that still as an artist they can have a lot in common and can respect others their work. Every week you see the singers grow closer to each other, which makes it really fun to watch, because it is really an experience they go through together. In the first 7 weeks, every episode will be dedicated to one of the singers and the other singers will sing songs for that person, which makes all the songs really personal (some especially). That's why you might sometimes see a person cry, because the song is very personal. In the 8th week they singers sing a duo with another singer by choice.
These are the people in the show:
Jan Smit: Host of the TV program, he always sits left of the singer which the episode is dedicated to.
Floor Jansen: As you already know, singer of Nightwish and previous singer of the band After Forever. In the episode dedicated to her these songs are sung to her:
- Tim Akkerman: Nemo - Nightwish
- Henk Poort: Sound of Silence - Disturbed (This cover of Henk Poort is really amazing though! He even learned to use "distortion" in his voice, which is actually a really big "no go" for opera singers, so this is the first time he sings like that.)
- Emma Heesters: Strong - After Forever (Very heavy, sensitive song for Floor, she wrote it for her mom who has Rheumatism and always tried to hide her pain. But even with her trying to hide it, Floor felt the same pain which always made it difficult for her so her mom like that. Floor always is very emotional when she sings this song, so she was also really emotional when Emma sang it for her. Emma sang this for her because she can identify herself in the song because her mom fought against cancer.)
- Ruben Annink: They Dance Alone - Sting
- Rolf Sanchez: Hotel California - The Eagles
- Samantha Steenwijk: Mother - Nightwish, never published live (Samantha rewrote this song to Dutch for Floor. She can really identify with Floor that she is not always able to see her family or child because of touring with the band. This makes it sometimes hard to be far away from the people you love. Floor wrote this song for her mom and family to show that they are always close in her heart, even though she cannot always be together with them.)
Henk Poort: Opera/musical/theatre singer who sang the Dutch "The Phantom of the Opera" and sings it in the "duetten" episode together with Floor (which is EPIC). Floor sings "Vilja Lied" for him in German.
Tim Akkerman: Solo-artist and former lead singer of the Dutch band Di-rect (till 2009). Floor sings "Winner" for him, a song that Tim wrote himself for his older brother who is in a wheelchair. Being in a wheelchair is difficult and Tim never heard his brother complained once about it and his brother is always positive. That's why he wrote this song to show his brother how proud he is of him. This song was really inspiring to Floor and she decided to sing this for him. In the "duetten" episode, Floor sings "Shallow" together with Tim.
Emma Heesters (23): Has her own TH-cam channel with mostly pop music covers that she records in the studio. Floor sings the song "Shallow" for her.
Ruben Annink (20): writes his own songs (in Dutch) where he tries to let people identify themselves in his songs. Floor sings the song "About love I don't know a thing", originally: "Van de liefde weet ik niets", which she translated to English with her sister. The song is about what is was like for Ruben when his parents divorced.
Rolf Sanchez (27): Big artist in Latin America and sings a lot of Spanish songs. His mother is Dominican and his farther is Dutch. Floor sings a Spanish song "Qué Se Siente" for him. This song is very important to Rolf and is based on a letter that he wrote for his ex. Because Floor wanted to stick to the emotion that Rolf had when writing this song, she decides to try and sing it in Spanish. Also a little bit for her fans in Southern America.
Samantha Steenwijk: Dutch folk singer. Floor sings "Mama" in Dutch for her because Samantha wrote this song about her mom. Because Floor also has a special bond with her mom, this song really moved her and she sings it for Samantha.

That was quite a surprise. Almost like he put on that hat and became another person.
This song was written by Ruben about h is parents divorce, so he's crying. Floor embodies it and as a mom, Samantha is crying because it sounds like a child that's suffering, Henk is crying because he's a child of divorced parents and Tim is choked up because he got divorced and he's not sure what it's done to his kids, if they are the victim of him and his ex falling out of love. So yeah, this song hit pretty much everyone, except Rolf and Emma, although they still seemed touched in the style Samantha was, empathetic.
It really feels like I should be in some smoky gin joint in New Orleans listening to her and a solo pianist.
There's one thing to hear great singers sing, but to make you FEEL IT is a gift that Floor is blessed with.

I've learned that the first thing Ruben, the young guy in the brown jacket on the coach who sings the original in Dutch, said to Floor after this performance was: "How is it that when ever you sing a cover, it sounds better than the original?" Obviously Ruben is still getting to know Floor's vocal capabilities.

In the song however it's about a girl's parents. For this show Floor together with her sister Irene translated the song into English for Ruben.

Hello guys. New sub from Greenville, SC. I have enjoyed your reactions to NW. And now I am also enjoying your reactions to Sabaton and The Beste Zangers stuff. If you are interested there are complete episodes available on yourtube that have been translated to english. This is a really cool show that tells you about each singer's personal story and how music has played a role in their lives. I can't wait to see more reactions from you guys. And as a fellow South Carolinian, I will be sure to let you know when and where NW will be on their upcoming tour. But be prepared to either go to Charlotte or Atlanta. I have been a fan of NW since the late 90's. It was Tarja's voice that attracted me to NW. I was very disappointed when she departed the band. But I kept following NW because Tuomas is a genius. I saw NW in Atlanta on their Imaginaerum Tour. It was the very next show (I think) when Annette fell ill. I heard that Floor was asked to step in (she was asked to learn an entire setlist in 48 hours...and she did like a BOSS!) and all I could think was Holy BLEEP! I wish I could be at one of those shows. I was a fan of After Forever and I was able to see them perform at ProgPower USA in Atlanta ( th-cam.com/video/8zno1ithRJY/w-d-xo.html ). This is a music festival held every year in September/October. You should check it out. Anyway, after I saw Floor perform with AF, I was sold that she was one of the best performers I had seen live. Then the Wacken DVD was released...and it was proven right there that Floor was perfect for NW. She can perform the Tarja songs, the Annette songs and anything in between. She has the best stage presence of the three and her harmonies with Marco are incredible. Their voices work so well with each other. This current line up is the best version of NW in my opinion. And after watching the interview of Toumas saying that NW would be over if Floor leaves, he knows it too. This version, in his mind, is what he had hoped NW would evolve into. Northward is a hard rock duo composed of Dutch vocalist Floor Jansen of Nightwish and Norwegian guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad of Pagan's Mind. The two created the project in 2007, writing an entire album worth of music in 2008 but being unable to record it due to label issues and their busy schedules; they ultimately reunited in 2017* to finally record the album, which was released on October 19, 2018 by Nuclear Blast.
Jansen stated that as both she and Lofstad are busy in their respective bands, Northward is a studio side-project and not a proper band, and that it would not perform live

I was surprised by such cogent comments from a guy in a STEELERS hat bwahahahahaha. Just kidding man...long time Raiders fan here, so that rivalry goes back a few years :). My dad's side of the family is from about 30 minutes sw of Pittsburgh, so I was only allowed up there for weddings and funerals haha. By now you've probably read the comments and you know why the kid was so emotional. He needed more Kleenex than Floor did for her episode. If you watch the full translated version, when Floor comes off the stage and hugs him, there is a very touching moment between them. He's only 20, and he's even said that he kinda wonders what he's doing there with all these people who have much more experience than he does, and you can tell from all of the episodes that he's a little in awe of Floor especially. From what I gather, he was on another show in the NL that focused on singer/songwriters, so that's how he become known to folks there.

Yeah, that knife-comment... I know it's a joke, but the analogy isn't even that bad. She cuts through our hearts so easily... She's not a swiss army knife. A swiss army knife is a compromise. It has lots of tools, but none of them are as good as the full size versions. Floor nails every genre she sings in.
