Floor chose this as it was a song that his mother used to sing to him as a child.
What's surprising is that Floor is not known in her own country (Netherlands), so this is a good chance for her to get known. Be sure to check also other songs from this show.
Well, im Dutch and i do know Floor. But she hasnt airtime on the radio or television.

@@42earthling Well, of course she's somewhat known, at least in the metal circles. I admit I don't know anything about that and I only rely on the show itself (I watched the first episode w/ English subtitles). I just got the impression that metal music is not so generally known there.
Jussi is right. Of course the Dutch metal community knows Floor, but that community is so small in the Netherlands. The people who just listen to mainstream radio crap etc. do not know her at all. All three of the songs she's sung on Beste Zangers are amazing (they get better and better)
All of them are in different languages and all of them are different styles/genres with a 'Floor twist'
Please do Mama (Soulful Dutch) and Qué Se Siente (Rock Salsa in Spanish) next if you want to see how versatile she is.
This Saturday it's her turn as the guest of honour so everyone else has to sing songs that she has sung or are special to her (either in her genre...good luck with that! Or in their own genre.)
Whilst she'll talk about her influences and life and why the songs are special to her.
No idea what they'll all pick because anything she's sung will be a tough act for anyone else to sing...especially if they aren't a metal singer, which none of them are.
Henk (the older guy) will at least be able to do opera for her, he's got an amazing voice.

You'd be the same way if this were a song that your mother were also an opera singer, and sang this to you when you were a child. He by his own admission was a sobbing mess from this, and we all would be if we were in his shoes just from remembering his mother, let alone Floor totally crushing this.
IN each one the person on the seat next to the host, straight across from the singer is the guest of honor that the singers are singing to/for. Next week is Floor's episode, so while she won't be singing, the rest will be singing songs for her.
I see Tarja fans saying elsewhere that Floor sucks with her classical voice, man, the idiocracy. You said it right, the pureness of her tone is incredible, it's like an angel flying round the ears.
If you think this is good wait until you hear what she did the following two weeks. Singing in different languages and just making it look so easy. Absolute singing goddess.

This is an aria from the opera "The Merry Widow". The Merry Widow (Die Lustige Witwe) was first performed in 1905 and was composed by Austrian Franz Lehar. Outside a vague knowledge that she sang heavy metal, only the older man really knew who she was. The aria was one his mother had sung to him, so Floor chose it for him and gave it a rock spin. Each week the songs chosen by the singers come from the repertoire or history of one of the other singers. The next two are equally brilliant (who would expect otherwise with Floor!) but this week (Week 4) everyone is singing from Floor's oeuvre. Should be interesting.
Tim Akkerman knows her. His band played some festivals with Floor's band After Forever, way back when.

She cannot actually speak either of those languages. So she cannot normally sing in German and Spanish like she can in English and Dutch. But since she is studying Finnish I really hope she will sing some of the few Finnish language Nightwish songs at some point. Like Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan (Once).

In this episode she is singing for the older gentleman who is an opera singer, he had just stated that he wondered if anyone would dare to sing opera.... Floor said "hold my beer" ….I've been watching and waiting for full episodes of this show with English subtitles.... it is a GREAT show so far, ALL of the singers are talented... I also can not wait for the episode where the other singers have to perform for Floor.... doing songs from her past or style, that one airs Saturday according to Floor's youtube page
The 1st song she sang on the show, 'Vilja Lied' she sang in German, the 2nd song she sang 'Mama' she sang in Dutch and the 3rd and latest song she sang 'Qué Se Siente' she sang in Spanish. Talk about versatile! There are several weeks left of this years series of Beste Zangers so who knows what other languages she is going to be singing in?! (Floor is the one in the spotlight in this weeks show).
A small correction it was not just her first song of the show it was also the very first song from the whole season. Can you imagine being the next person to sing after her performance. ;-)

So far they announced the first 4 shows in May 2020 in South America and 1 in November 2020 in The Netherlands. Still waiting for dates in the US, rest of Europe and Asia

Watching Henk Poort's teary eyes and the meaning this song has to him, sang by this out of this world woman it's just wow!, I started to love Nightwish because of the dynamic of the band + Tarja, then took a little break from them when they brought Anette on board (not that she is not talented, she is indeed), and again fell in love with the band heavily because the new found illusion and magestuosity they acquired with Floor, BEAUTIFUUUL!
Never heard of Beste Zangers before but oh boy i'm loving this season so much, I cannot wait for this week's episode, it's Floor's week and the rest will sing to her.

She is just incredible, singing in 3 different leanguages (Germany, Dutch, Spanish) from her 3 performances so far, but amazingly she interpret each song very well and delivered the emotions eventhough we didn't understand the leanguages.
Never commented here before, but I think her voice so pure and beautiful is a gift for all us from our Creator above.
Others sing what they can, Floor sings whatever she wants...

The youngest guy on the show said the best thing ever: Floor how is it possible, you make every song sound better than the original. He is right. Floor is going to give six (mini) concerts in January 2020, three of them sold out in roughly one day!!!

Yes this was a recent performance. She has done 2 more after it, nailing all different genres (a different singer is the focal point of the show every week) and putting her own rock/metal spice in it. The performance you watched is for Henk Poort, a great Dutch opera singer. The one after that was about and for Miranda van Steenwijk, a folk singer and she sang in Dutch, the song is called "Mama" . The one after that was for Rolf Sanchez, he is particularly popular in South America with Spanish songs that I don't know how to label. I heard reggaeton and salsa or something. Anyway, she sang Que Se Siente for him and they're all worth checking out. Floor got on this show with the intention of showcasing what she has to offer on a supportive and non judgemental podium and I think she does it beautifully. I was already a fangirl but now I'm a super hyped fangirl.
So just react to them already, you're way behind on schedule! Next episode is coming up Saturday and then the singers are going to do Floor's songs. Can't wait too see what they do. And how much they will struggle with them, probably.

Expect a US/NA tour in the late spring/early summer, based on the last US tour. They've already announced some South American dates. Don't know where you guys are, but they hit most major US cities, so you should be good to go. Unfortunately, they'll be in a much smaller venue than in European shows, so we don't get the full production.

She's singing that for Henk Poort. He told her one time that his mother who was an opera singer use to sing that to him when he was a young boy.
This song is an aria from the operetta "Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) by the Austro-Hungarian Franz Lehàr (1870 - 1948) so it's a pretty old song. Floor giving it a metal treatment adds another dimension.
Vilja Lied is from the operetta "The merry widow". The older man in the audience is an opera singer as well. And she sang "his " song. That's what the show is about. Every week they sing a the songs of the chosen person in their own style. Next saturday they will sing Floors songs.

Every episode you have 1 main guest of which the other 6 guests sing a personal song.
This might be a song from their repertoire or a song which has a special meaning for them.
So it is very interesting to hear how the guest are transforming these songs into a song of their own.

Actually it is taped a couple of months ago but it aired three weeks ago. The show consists of singers from all different genres coming together and celebrating the music. There is no competition aspect, just celebrate each othersstyles by singing for each other. Every week there is one who is celebrated. They sit next to the host(who is a famous singer himself in the Netherlands) and they enjoy the others singing songs that either mean something to them or are what they have sung themselves. Next saturday is Floor's turn so she will not be singing but the others have to do songs for her. Will be very interesting :P

This one is for the older man Henk Poort who is an opera singer. He kicks ass as well! Week 2 "Mama" and week 3 "Que Si Siente". Both are amazing. This Saturday is Floor's turn to be sung to. It will be interesting to see if anyone chooses to sing a Nightwish song for Floor?

This is sung in German, next is Mama in Dutch and just this past Saturday she sang Que Se Siente in Spanish, so you have some catching up to do. Let's see that is Finnish, Swedish, German, Dutch, Spanish and English we have heard her sing in. What android number is this model cause she can't be human. Anyway great reaction as usual and Floor doesn't need Nightwish to sound awesome, I swear she would sound great if she had a washboard playing behind her.
