Odin is so powerful that sometimes he goes into the “Odin Sleep”. During the Odin Sleep, his body recharges itself. Telling Loki that he was actually a Frost Giant was so much of a burden for Odin that it made him go into the Odin Sleep.

Not so much the rescue mission?

    • @charlielynch3916

Think it was just a mixture of the prospect of going to war again with the frost giants, the rescue mission, banishing his son and having to tell Loki the truth. All of that happening at once overwhelmed him, especially after centuries of relative peace and quiet.

Loki's whole goal was to win Odin's love and pride. That's it. He didn't care that Laufey was his birth father, he wanted to make them an enemy, then take them out to become a hero to his "dad," Odin.

Loki believed he had a legacy that he deserved. What he did was all part of achieving that. In the end, unable to achieve it in Asgard, he looked elsewhere.

I love how you get the humour in these MCU movie; and even make your own humour on top of it.
Loki is a very complicated vilain who is alway manipulating people to get what he wants; hence why he manipulated the Frost Hiant to attempt to steal the casket, then manipulated Thor to start a war with the Frost Giants, manipulated Laufey to invade Asgard to give justification for retaliation on his world. All that to get the throne of Asgard to himself and erase any trace of his Frost Giant heritage, once he discovered it. That and how much Tom Hiddleston CRUSHED those two angry speeches to Odin and Thor is why Loki is always in the top three list of BEST MCU vilains (Many would say in the top two!)

  • @GrumpyOpinions

"He has so much to learn"/"No! Take his powers but don't abandon him"
Vanish him would be a more accurate term... but yes, in order to learn he has to leave the paradise of Asgard. So he learns of tazers... and drugs XD.
Honorary mention to the Proud Piggy Sound XD.
"I was confused because Loki at the start seemed to have the sense that Thor lacked"
Well, that comes from mythology, because Loki is the God of deceit and lies :P.
"Did her mother really forbade his return?"
    Remember, God of lies...
"I'm confused.... Was Loki trying to do a good thing... a bad thing...?"
Remember: God of lies XD. In a nutshell: Odin is hibernating (kind of) and Thor is the legit heir to the throne (even in exile). So Loki has this master plan: vanish Thor for whatever reason and convince him never to return and then become the hero of Asgard by saving the life of Odin (from a plot he set in motion).
    "Excuse me!"
    Remember, God of lies :P.

He had two ravens with him that kept him apprised of all that was going on in the world. ...He also led the Wild Hunt during the Yule season and either brought bad luck or gave gifts to people, depending on his mood (and whether or not people were good, left his horse offerings, etc.).

This was the first big challenge for Marvel Studios. - Making Thor work within their cinematic universe, and to accomplish that they knew they had to go big, grandiose; it needed to be operatic. To that end they brought in Kenneth Branagh, a Shakespearean veteran of stage and film to direct, and created visuals (to coin a fitting phrase here) worthy of the title character's cosmic, larger-than-life roots. Personally, I still feel they succeeded.
The final hurdle now remained. Could they take one of their most recognizable pulp icons and make a period piece that not only got his origin down but could also elevate him beyond his patriotic American wartime trappings? You'll get to find out next when we meet the First Avenger, and my personal favorite Marvel movie hero, Captain Steve Rogers. : )

Of all the MCU movies, Thor is my favourite. I won't say its the 'best', but it's definitely my favourite. Its almost entirely because of how much they leant into the epic fantasy of everything. The entire plot, the warring brothers, the disappointed father with secrets in his past, Kings and rulers and worthiness, it's right out of a mixture of Arthurian legend, Norse Sagas and Shakespeare. Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston throw themselves wholly into their roles, embracing it fully. And Kenneth Branagh the Director has enough Shakespeare in his veins to know how to pull the melodrama out for great effect. It absolutely doesn't hold back in its earnestness and forthrightness, and I genuinely appreciate it. Not to mention the soundtrack is phenomenal from Patrick Doyle.
As a side note, a wonderful piece of trivia is that, during the filming of the scene where Thor is stripped of his power and title, the snarl that Anthony Hopkins does towards Tom when he tries to intercede on his brother's behalf was totally improvised, so Tom's reaction and recoil was genuine! (Imagine having an actor with the pedigree of Anthony Hopkins snarl at you! XD ). Its so over the top and wonderful, very melodramatic as I've said.

Yes, the proud piggy was cute. :)
My interpretation is that Loki only allowed Laufey access to Odin so the he could kill the frost giant and show his father what a good son he was. Recall when Odin collapsed his reaction was not to kill his stepfather, but call for help. Why wipe out Jotunheim? My guess is Loki harbors some self-loathing, and wiping out the frost giants lets him express that without harming himself, not to mention it marks him as a "true" Asgardian.
One reason the movie is so grand is that it's directed by Kenneth Branagh, the noted Shakespearean actor.
Actually the movie follows some elements of early Marvel Thor. Odin did in fact banish him to Midgard to learn humility. The quote "Whosoever holds this hammer shall gain the power of Thor" is from Lee's early work on the character. He originally appeared as Dr. Donald Blake, a lame surgeon who walked with a cane. To become Thor he would strike the cane on the ground, and BAM! They later dropped that and he was just Thor all the time.

•Marvel's character of Thor is based on, but not an exact copy of the character from Norse mythology.
•That was Thor. Technically, as Thor is from Asgard and not Earth, Thor is an alien.
    •Asgard is strangely shaped.
•That's Loki for you; he's still the trickster, which translate well for a Marvel villain.
•In Marvel at least, Loki is not an Odinson, but Loki Laufeyson, the runt son of Laufey, King of Jotenheim and an cast-out Frost Giant. Odin took him in following his defeat of the Frost Giants.
•Odin's not dead; he entered the Odinsleep, which is a long nap to recharge the Odin Force, the source of his power. So until Odin wakes up, Loki is more of a Prince Regent than King.
•"Strange Asgard Droid" is the Destroyer, the guardian of Odin's vault.
•So Loki first lead the Frost Giants into Asgard to ruin Thor's investiture with a little fun. Then he helped indirectly convinced Thor to go to Jotunheim, which resulted in Thor's banishment and Odin entering the Odinsleep. His big plan was then to bring the Frost Giants back to attack Odin while he in the Odinsleep, but then double-cross them, making him look like a hero and giving pretext for destroying Jotunheim via the Bifrost. He wants to destroy Jotunheim for the same reason Thor wanted to fight them at the beginning of the film; to prove himself to Odin as a worthy son and heir.
•There's more than one way to skin a cat. Loki survived and will appear again throughout the MCU. He's one of its most popular villains.

Fun fact about the hammer I concluded from the movies and official comics. The hammer will give out the exact same force as the person or object lifting it. Ex: If I try pulling it up with 20 pounds of force, the hammer will pull down with exactly 20 pounds of force. The same applies to any amount of force.
The reason that Heimdall's eyes look like that is that he can see everything in the universe. Everything at the same time
The Destroyer armor obeys anyone that wields Gungnir. Odin's staff
Loki staged the events so that he could save the day and be the hero even though he is the bad guy
Odin is the father of the century... NOT

Loki is complicated and conflicted, which is what makes him one of the best characters in the MCU. Deep down he loves Odin and Thor, but his greed and lust for power get the best of him. Couple that with the fact that mischief and misdirection are such a huge part of his character, along with his immaturity, and he just can't help himself.

Hulk is physically stronger than Thor and arguably every marvel and dc character (in terms of raw physical strength not power)
Catching and supporting a collapsing 150 billion ton mountain range using barely any leverage. (Marvel Heroes Secret Wars #4)
Tearing through a bunker designed to resist the explosion of a multi-kilo-ton weapon. (Incredible Hulk #177)
Matching the Super-Adaptoid, who had acquired strength and durability of over a hundred heroes like Iron Man and the Vision. (Incredible Hulk #469)
Closing the door of a nuclear core that the combined efforts of Thor and the Thing couldn't budge. (Iron Man Vol 2 #6)
Redirected Gladiator's beams back to his eyes, instantly knocking him out. The blasts were said to be hotter than the sun. (Incredible Hulk Annual 1997)
Matching two Avengers teams during a prolonged period of time even though the Hulk was gradually weaker due to a physical separation from Banner (Incredible Hulk #321-322)
Unleashing intense gamma energy shock waves from his body, Hulk almost destroyed the entire East Coast with a single footstep, while also threatening to destroy the entire planet... and even then he was revealed to be greatly holding back! (World War Hulk #5)
Destroying the Crypto Man after its physical strength became superior to that of even Thor (Incredible Hulk #205)
Overpowering Thor on several occasions (Hulk: Let the Battle Begin #1, Incredible Hulk #440, Mighty Thor #385, Avengers Assemble #4)
Pushing two spheres of matter and antimatter apart (Marvel Team up Annual Two #2)
Pulling and holding the tectonic plates of a planet together, a planet that's mass and gravity far exceed that of Earth (Incredible Hulk #99)
overpowering sufficient force to change the orbit (Tales of astonish #89)
Destroying a planet and the surrounding planets/moons in the Dark Dimension, threatening the entire dimensional/universal realm (The Incredible Hulks #634-635)
Destroying an asteroid that's twice the size of Earth in a single blow (Marvel Comics Presents #52)
Applying force to the space-time structure itself to prevent the Defenders from being absorbed into a fissure (Defenders #3)
Smashing and crushing Adamantium with his bare hands (Incredible Hulk #228; Marvel Team-up Annual #2)
Overpowering and shattering Onslaught's armor, whose power and armor were equal to those of a Celestial (Onslaught: Marvel Universe #1)
Sending concussive energy through countless dimensions after clashing with Ironclad (Incredible hulk #305)
Destroying Nightmare's Realm with his sheer power alone (The Incredible Hulk #299)
Crushing the enchanted uru hammer of Nul: Breaker of Worlds with his bare hands when The Serpent/Cul and his avatars known as The Worthy were at the height of their power (Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula #3)

In actual Norse mythology, Loki is blood brother to Odin, not to Thor. Sif is Thor's wife. And the "Warriors Three" don't exist. And Thor rides in a chariot pulled by two goats, rather than flying by twirling his hammer. Sometimes, Thor cooks and eats the goats, but they grow back from the bones overnight. And Thor is usually described as having red hair, not blonde.
But yes, Thor and Loki are frequently enemies.. Loki is always trying to get the better of Thor, and is always a thorn in his side. But they aren't brothers.
