I think most can agree that Glenn probably shouldn't have left The Walking Dead. While I love Negan's introduction episode and it's one of my favourite episodes of TV, I still think the show would have been much better with Glenn there instead of Maggie. While rewatching The Walking Dead I've always noticed something so huge that happened seemingly last minute that would've stopped this from happening completely. I think The Walking Dead would have been so much better with Glenn still in the shows with Rick Grimes, Michonne, Daryl Dixon, Carol and Negan. With Daryl Dixon season 2 Book of Carol on the way. So in this video we make a case for a theory that Glenn was never going to leave and it was actually meant to be Maggie and Tara. Just thought this deserved it's own video as it still remains to be such a big thing in The Walking Dead universe.

Just thought this was an interesting and fun thing to think about if they were going to save Glenn from his comic fate. What do you think?
In this video I talk about a very strange occurrence in the story that suggests maybe they were going to have it the other way around all along. If Glenn was going to avoid his comic fate but then was switched back in there to get it, so that Tara and Maggie could go on, I don't think it was worth what happened after. I don't think what Glenn's fate did for Maggie and Negan etc was worth it. The timeline may have been so much better with Glenn present instead. It ruined the Tara and Maggie characters and with how prominent the Negan and Maggie stuff is in today's Walking Dead shows, it may be on of the worst things the show did in sticking with the comics. I don't think the comics matter when they're endlessly remixed in the show. Just think it's a shame that Tara and Maggie got much worse when Glenn left. If he survived and Dwight killed Tara at the line up... we'd still have Glenn, Tara would've remained a good character before dying and Maggie wouldn't have been ruined. Just thought it was interesting and fun to think about.

it’s perfect in the comics, but in the show i feel because abraham was killed as the sacrifice to keep the group safe, glenn’s death just feels like it was all daryl’s fault for having an outburst yano
I don't agree at all. Glenn died here in the comics, there's certain events you simply don't change, Glenn's death was arguably the most important moment in the entire comic run, you can't just swap that out, Glenn was always going to die here. They just also added Abraham to try and throw off the comic readers.
Exactly, his death was one of the most important moments in the comics and show. In the comics especially it set up so much for Maggie, Rick, and Negan to an extent. His death made more sense than people realize.

Imagining Tara’s oceanside episodes with Glenn instead makes SOOO much more sense. Like Tara’s fine and all, but this role fit Glenn so much. In the same way I’d switch them. I’d switch Morgan and Carl. (No hate to my boy Morgan. It just would’ve been better for the story.)
Plus it would have made more sense with Morgans comic death. They could have remixed his death with actual meaning unlike his comic counterpart
Would have been great to see Carl end up on Fear too. That would have made more sense. Rick has TWD and Carl got FTWD and then they all end up back together to end the show...or maybe, Carl and fear is battling the CRM and Rick and TWD are doing the same, only to meet in the middle and then Rick must sacrifice himself to beat the CRM and save Carl's life. Draw curtain. Would have been PHENOMINAL!

Glenn dieing killed the show, Carl dieing buried the body
The fact that Glenn should have survived is plausible to me, as TWD has always changed deaths from the comics and Glenn still had potential, but not having Glenn in the line up would have been very strange, as it was his last scene in the comics . The writers would never have missed the opportunity to put Glenn in the spotlight. Especially if Maggie is also in the line up. If she wasn't in the line up it would be a different story. Glenn is too important for this moment not to have him there. And Tara, as a second death probably wouldn't have bothered anyone. Especially after Abraham. And then there's the fact that I doubt it was ever planned for a woman to die there. You explained it well, but it wouldn't really fit with Negan's philosophy of not wanting to kill women.
My theory is that before this whole Steven Yeun wants to leave the show issue came up, only one death was planned, like it was in the comics. Which would also explain a little more that weird cliffhanger and the Glenn dumpster scene. When it became clear that Steven Yeun wanted Glenn's comic death, they added him as a shock death. I think Abraham was planned to die in the line up since his first appearance. Especially since it would fit in terms of tragedy, bc he finally had everything he wanted at that point. And the Rosita scene where she calls him champ was too obvious.
I think the reason Tara suddenly seemed more like Glenn was because the writers tried to create a kind of Glenn replacement personality-wise. Which of course didn't work because Tara wasn't really popular.
To this day I think Tara would have been the perfect mid-season finale death for S8. If it hadn't been for the whole Carl's death trash, the attack on Hilltop could have been perfectly changed to episode 8.
That way they could have had Rick get hit by an arrow like in the comics and in the TV version they could have used Tara as the person who actually gets infected. Then Morgan as S8's final death and S8 would have done much better in retrospect. But as always, Carl's death only made everything more complicated than it needed to be.
But the theory with the gun is very plausible. I also thought Negan would use it back then.
I see the vision, feel like its worth mention the supposed leaked scene where Maggie dies instead of Glenn.
This scene was shot for every character except Rick. They wanted to try to confuse people, but it didn't really work. Unfortunately, the other scenes were never leaked or shown.
If that was the case, Glenn would've went over to the factory and murder Negan the next day. Then he would never have humanity ever again.
So strange that I’m the only person that likes Tara. Because she remind me of how I would be. In these type of situation’s. Except for that stunt with Dwight. Daryl, clearly said no, that was dumb. What if the Savior had heard that?

They ended the CRM arc with TOWL too quickly, it should have been much more robust of a story, 1 short season? Should have been 3.

tara was one of my fave characters cuz of how funny and also akward she was sometimes..reminds me of how i would be in an apocalypse. but it would pick her death over glenn dying any day.

Comic and show are different things. What's good writing in the comics isn't necessarily good writing for the show. It's not so much that Glenn died, but how it happened. With all the changes they made, I feel they should have changed things with his death. Kill him where they killed Carl instead.
Well, we know that sometime in Season 3 of the Daryl show, him and carol will find Glenn trapped and living on an island. Here he tells them that during the events of the time jump between 6x09 and 6x10, that he went out scavenging and discovered a bunker with his identical twin brother, Jon. Jon had been given up for adoption when Glenn was 10 because they're parents couldn't handle him anymore, but him and Glenn were close. Glenn would go back to visit Jon several more times, telling him about Alexandria and his experiences.
However, one day, Jon snapped and knocked Glenn out, chaining him up in the bunker. Jon would assume Glenn's identity using his experience with his brother's mannerisms and the knowledge Glenn gave him to assimilate into Alexandria. Taking Glenn's clothes and supplies, even cutting his beard with the razor Glenn brought him. Jon, with his mental problems, quickly got lost into the role of his brother further falling into obsession and delusion, eventually leading to his death by Negan. Meanwhile, Glenn, desperate to escape, had to cut his own hand off at which point he stumbles out of the bunkers and collapsed onto the ground. When he woke up he was on a ship being brought somewhere, which is when he was brought to the island where he couldn't escape and had to adjust to his new life there.
We can assume that this could probably hint at a crossover with Dead City where Daryl and Carol bring Glenn to Maggie in New York, where he'll finally meet Herschel and possibly reunite with his sisters, if they appear in the show. This could lead to Maggie finally forgiving Negan. We also have heard rumors that Dwight would appear in the Daryl show, so that would fit. It's very complicated as TWD usually is and I don't know how i fully feel about everything, but we'll have to just watch it play out.

I agree, Tara’s dialogue and how she dropped off after season 5 made me annoyed with her.
I liked her to start but then she kinda just got annoying with the way she was being used as a character.

they clearly could've replaced Glenn's death with Aaron in the lineup, now the guy who played the character Glenn probably had other gigs, he had movies and other things to do leading to why he agreed to get his comic book death because he most likely wanted to go and do other and possibly bigger things other than playing Glenn on twd , alot of celebrities have this thing to where they don't want to be known ONLY as that guy that played in that one popular show, they want to be known as "hey that the guy who play in that show and those 6 popular movies"
It wouldn't have had the same impact if it was Aaron and Abe. Glenn death sets up Maggie, rick and negan future story and the arc as a whole. It just wouldn't work as well if it was Aaron, daryl wouldn't be as angry and sad if it was Aaron, maybe a bit but not to the same extent
The actor that actually played Glen never said that they wanted to leave the show even recently, he actually won a Golden Globe and thanked The Walking Dead for starting his career because this was actually his first acting role. But he has been the lead in multiple films which are actually really good in my opinion… I think Glen was a comfort character for a lot of people to the show so when he died it just lost all heart… it was lit just Carol Daryl Rick and Carl left from the OG group and we all know what happened to Carl….

From what I've read, the reason Scott Gimple killed off Carl was because his death was the one thing that could change Rick's mind about killing Negan, i.e., Rick spared Negan to fulfill Carl's dying wish. If that's true, then Carl's death was completely unnecessary because there were plenty of other things that could've changed Rick's mind, like when he found out that the savior he killed was only fighting to protect his infant daughter, and when Daryl killed Morales.

Nah I dont agree. They keep most of the major plot lines and switch out some characters, but Glenn was supposed to and is ALWAYS going to die there. There were so many teases to glenn's death, and they did that on purpose to lessen the blow of his actual death scene, but obviously it was still too much for a lot of people. Im sure they knew this and thats why they teased him almost dying a lot of times, but its just a part of the story and how it was always going to go, and thats all, and I respect it.

Lots of characters did not get their comic death, glenn wasn't going to either. The actor wanted to leave the show and asked for a comic accurate death, so they did what he asked
They did try to find a way to let him live but didn't and for good reason. First, his death in that moment specifically is a canon event. It needs to happen in most timelines or there is no story. Rick, Maggie, and Negan's journey depends entirely on Glenn's death. They did the dumpster fakeout death to test the audience and see how strongly they would react to Glenn dying, and there was no riot, no complaining, most people just accepted it. So they knew that killing Glenn wouldn't kill the show too.

Glenn died in the comics and it wasn't the worse thing i'm over it. the actor says he knew it was coming, because was in comics, although they can change what they want, but steven doesn't care, he's living his best acting life. great title though i just wish only one of them died in that episode, not both.

Glenn was always supposed to die at the negan introduction. His death is supposed to make rick realize just how much danger they’re all in, he was so used of being the most powerful survivor around, he forgot how it felt to be vulnerable again. Glenn’s death solidifies that.

I don’t think the way Tera acts in the Oceanside episode makes any sense because written for Glenn as his character was at that point. Season 1/2 Glenn absolutely, but he’s rarely a goofy funny character in season 3 and beyond.
The whole point of this video was to explain why Glenn should’ve survived and the show would’ve been much better. Not just for people to say “Glenn was sad But Carl never should’ve died” yeah that’s pretty obvious!!!! Showrunners made bad decisions, and we have to deal with them.

In my opinion, if they killed anyone other than Glenn at the line up, and they swapped it for Tara, we would’ve accused them for not having what it takes to commit to it.
I think it’s the way they handled the line up after math is where they messed up.
Also, I don’t truly believe Negan would’ve selected a woman at the line up either. Seeing the way he treated Sasha before she died, I think he had a respect for women, to at least, not kill them in that way.
I think if Glenn did survive, I think Maggie dying for not getting immediate healthcare while she was sick is more believable than Negan getting her or Tara. Glenn can still want revenge for the saviors stalling her aid.

Well Rick, Michonne and their kids survives no Matter what. They kill off Rick especially. Then they've basically lost me. I'm a die hard Rick Grimes fan.
Negan doesn’t kill kids or Women unless he has too. He wasn’t going to kill a woman in the lineup. Also Negan admits to Rick that he only killed someone else in the group and not him because he didn’t want to kill a father in front of a son.
If Shane survived, He'd have a bushy white beard and a long black hair which would be graying, His eyebrows would remain black much like how Rick looked in TWD The Ones Who Live
i hate tara. considering the line up was supposed to have a huge impact, i think glenns death was alright, but abrahams was kinda unnecessary.
The show didn't need glen in those later seasons, it needed better writing. Glenn needed to die because it was by far the most iconic scene in the franchise in both comic and show and it needed to go unchanged. And I don't agree at all about this Tara thing cause she has always been written this way. It's not this weird thing where all of a sudden 3 or 4 seasons into her character she just "starts acting like glenn" or something.

Unpopular opinion but I think Andrea's death was the worst decision because it really gave the writers "permission" to go off the rails a bit and deviate from the source material and then justify it.

Tara wasn't a big enough character to get picked by Negan. It was literally one of the biggest deaths in the show and was used to change the direction of the story. Tara simply wouldn't matter enough to have that realistically happen.
I dont like how so many ppl suggest fridging maggie if Glenn lived. I get that its a role reversal but its just so boring imo.Overdone,unorginal and pointless. Im not saying he has to be happy all the time and never suffer but fridging his love intrest just isnt the way to go. Sure he should suffer a littrle bit for character development but the end result should be more maturity not beiing a more dark and edgy character. He should go through a dark time but overcome it. So many ppl wanted him to be like everyone else but that would take some of the charm away.
Fridging maggie could possibly work but if they handled glenns arc any way like they handled it with maggie then its best if you just keep them both alive. They kept pairing Maggie with Negan and kept putting her into situations that forced her to be more negative when her positivity and kindness was one of her stronger attributes

This isn't proof now is it it's just head canon and a bit silly. Basically saying because the actor was pregnant they just literally swapped the characters roles with no adaptation.

That's not favoritism. I know you kids don't get it, you don't have any background in writing, but there's a fine line when it comes to these scenes in TV. You know why Glenn worked in the comics? It was built up to be the ultimate death in the series, which only works with the biggest character in there...Which was Glenn, whom was the fan favorite in the comics and was Rick's bestfriend. Instead how the scene worked in the show is just needless torture pr0n, with two characters who could've added way more to the show (and were NOT the biggest characters). If we had the equivalent of Glenn get the scene, it'd have been Daryl instead.

Maggie and Tara are 2 of the most annoying characters. 2 "boss" babes who don't need no man, I wish Glenn survived and them 2 were gone instead, its also much more believable for Glenn to forgive than Maggie or Tara
Tara sucked Carl doesn’t die in the comics yet they kill him off in the show. Glenn dies in the comic. And they still kill him in the show. This shows how lazy people are and don’t stick to story lines. It’s like the same with Harry Potter we have peives the poltergeist in the books but he isn’t in any of the movies and their excuse was it would’ve been to expensive to add peives in they also used another excuse saying that it would be irrelevant to the movies
