I think one of the most needless fates in TV is Dale in The Walking Dead. In this video I ask the question of what if Dale survived and breakdown the entire story of The Walking Dead from the moment he left on the farm all the way to season 4 and give Dale the story that I think he was always meant to have and always deserved. While I would love if Dale made it to The Walking Dead season 11 where Rick Grimes returns and teases the new Walking Dead spin off shows such as the Rick Grimes and Michonne show, The Ones Who Live, this is the most fitting story I think he was meant to get before he decided to leave.

Dale said it himself "I may not have what it takes to last for long, but that's ok. At least I can say that when the world went to shit I didn't let it take me down with it." Dale was heavily rooted in his values, and he stood unshaken until the end.

You have to be more flexible in your values when you have family and kids to in order to protect them.dale was free to accept the consequences of his actions only on him.

If Hershel takes T-Dog's death, doesnt that mean during the sickness more people could have died? Maybe even Glenn? Cus Hershel was the main reason some of them survived and Dale isnt a doc

Oscar was such a real one.
He helped the group do that first raid at Woodbury after just barely meeting them and died in the process.

Dale's death was perfectly timed imo. In season 2 our group went from humans to survivors who'd do what's necessary to survive. For a long time Shane represented this cruel survivor and Dale was the fair and good but vulnerable moral compass. You couldn't know which one would win. Does this broken world change us or can we stay ourselves? By the end of the season Rick had to kill his best friend and other people too. This answered the question. Dale was the moral compass who choose to stay human. His death was the last milestone that finalised where this was going. He had to die or go with the stream and become someone else which we know would've been out of character. His death brought a darker tone as well as helped the story progress.

I’ve watched all 11 seasons of TWD 5 times since 2019 which is like 1k+ hours i believe.
Dale is definitely in the top 10 of my favorite characters from the entire show.
If each of the 177 episodes were approximately 45 minutes long, then that's 7,965 minutes or 133 hrs! And I can't even begin to imagine how many times I've watched the entire show, every episode lol. And of course, that doesn't include FTWD, TWB, Tales of TWD, and webisodes. It's pretty crazy how much time us fans have invested in TWD universe ❤

Awesome video! Dale running off with Andrea and meeting Michonne after the farm house is perfect. He definitely would have stayed near Andrea during the downfall of herschel's farm

I don't know if this is true but I think originally that Hershel was going to get Dale's death in S2 before Jeffrey left because of what happened with Frank Darabont.
Another what if is what if Dale in the show got his comic death. This was a really good video though and it does fit for this what if story.
You're partly correct about Hershel. It was originally planned that Randall would kill Hershel (while trying to escape.) However, the showrunner (Mazzara) thought that it was a gratuitous death, that wasn't needed at that point. He never did confirm whether Dale's death saved Hershel.

I always loved how level headed he was and he was the ONLY one of the group who stayed mentally stable and was very reasonable, my fav character other than Negan or s5 rick
He was too reasonable for the world the show depicts. He was beginning to become a liability to the group because civilized reactions just won't work in that scenario. So, he had to either die or something would have had to happen to harden him to the reality he was in, or he would have had to leave. Maybe the Terminus experience would have done it. That would do it if anything would.
I think Hershel wouldve died on the farm. But I think Tyreese would die in his place (like Tyreese dies in the comics) but Dale i think Dale would die in Tyreese's place i think he wouldve adopted Lizzie and Mika alongside Carol. After he is bitten As he gives up. Not wanting to live in a world like this. He sees Andrea alongside everyone else important to him (Maybe his wife Irma ideally for me) and then as he tells Bob to turn off the radio he dies.
But I like this outcome too

If she had itd be really hard to figure out who shed be. Her death in the main series was important character development especially for Carol and Daryl. Not to mention the Greene family. On top of that we are talking about SO much more screentime and character development for her then she ever got previously, Season 2 Carl and S7 Carl are night and day different characters for example
I first watched TWD in my living room with my parents when I was like 7 or 8 and I would watch some of the scenes and not really pay attention so I thought Herschel was Dale the whole time lol

Idk about anyone else, but I'd like to see a video about how things might be if Merle survived. I feel like he had a good death, but it would have been interesting if he'd stayed alive and became part of the group. He had some good interactions with the prison group in the short time he was there, and they definitely could've built on that.

I’ve been recently rewatching the walking dead and season 2 is still my favorite season. Dale is a big part of that. I think if Dale had been behind walls like at Alexandria, he definitely would’ve survived. He reminds me of Deanna with wanting a civilization and all.

Of all the characters I remember so well from first watching back when I was a middle schooler in about 2015, it was Shane and Dale I remembered.
Dale was manipulative as hell but it would have been a good ending for him if he got to go out in his comic death of “tainted meat”

This was a great what if scenario, this is something that could have actually happened if dales actor didn’t leave, I really wish he had lasted maybe another season or two.
This is what the show should have done.
I liked Dales death. I thought it was fitting because it happened at a time in where he was beginning to realize that he wasn’t fit for this world. Not to mention it made fans realize, no one is safe.

This is an awesome timeline, but knowing gimple and his dialogue writing dale would have been a regular Socrates the whole show only speaking in vague one liners (sort of like morgan) and echoing the same "we are worse than we were" and "keeping our humanity thats a choice" as a dramatic gotcha moment every season finale 😅
In my opinion, In the show I would've had Hershel die in Dale's spot back at the farm, Jimmy die in T-Dog's spot at the prison, and Dale die in Hershel's spot in Season 4 when the Governor attacked

Dales death made no sense.
So, yes it is dark...
But he spots the cow easily enough.
So, our zombie annoyed and irritated by Karl, rambles about and somehow takes down a cow. Then once devouring the cow, he stops eating and goes and hides in wait, to ambush...
Dale, doesn't see the zombie hiding on approach, how did he not hear it, see it, smell it?
Anyway, the zombie is in stealth mode which happens a lot in TWD.
So Dale walks past the 'stealth invisible zombie' and gawks at the cow. Then the magical zombie appears behind him and wrestles him to the ground.
Once on the ground, this zombie that could not keep hold of a child's foot - now has Hulk Fingers and can not only rip open a cow's stomach but can rip open a human's gut?
The Walking Dead got so bad so quickly.
What if the governor met negan instead of Tara and her family.
Going based on the comics he worked have probably lasted till at least series 5.

I think Dale would've hardened by the beginning of S4. You forget that even Hershel, someone who was very staunch in his beliefs in S2 was a different person in S3 and 4 and in a good way. Dale wasn't around for when they had to tough it out on the road like Hershel did between S2 and 3, nor did he live long enough in the story where the living became the real villains, I think at best he only lives as long as Hershel and at worst he dies in the surprise attack alongside Axel.
I don't see Dales S2 mindset sticking around when the stuff with Thomas happens in the Prison if not earlier between Seasons, he'd have to grow in order to survive into S4, even Hershel puts more faith in Ricks leadership and choices to kill and the biggest problem after that is the Illness that spreads cause without Hershel you could argue a lot more people would've died without him and his herbal remedy
