    Great video, I would recommend wearing latex gloves while handling the controller before you apply the clear coat as you could accidentally leave a fingerprint which doesn't look great. Yeah this is kind of nit-picky but it is such a small step to make it look a lot nicer.

    • @dkmt_king5595
      @dkmt_king5595 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, literally let's see you do one better. If you can be a critic to other's work to you literally saying that it hurts to just look at what someone did to inform people how to do a task, does that make you better than them at it? So try and make you're own. THEN you can criticise other's work without any negitive response.

    • @motnurky7055
      @motnurky7055 9 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      This Ninja Gamer No, saying that his controller looks good despite the fact that the triforce is horribly off centered does not mean that I can do better. It means that I think that the controller looks good despite the fact that the triforce is horribly off centered.
      If it means I'm going to get negative responses from people who actually think that criticism requires the ability to do better than what is being criticized, more power to them.

    Quick Question(s):
    1. Does the finished product have the same texture as an original gamecube controller? The sleek, glossy feel I mean.
    2. How many layers of paint/clear coat/ primer would you recommend to most emulate the feel of an original controller?

  • @BeeSawd
    @BeeSawd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    nicely done i never thought to paint the cable end thingy i might do that for my own controller.

  • @oggamez1
    @oggamez1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The paint looks phenomenal! But I would suggest getting a decal made for the Triforce instead of painting it and doing all of that computer work. Much easier imo.

  • @fablesfables
    @fablesfables 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Only things I would recommend is not spraying the coats so up close, this might cause pooling and dripping and to not spray as many coats if you primed it well with 2 coats like i did. Also I would recommend letting it dry inside, as where I live the wind always blows and messes up the paint. As for the garage, theres dust and crud. But this looks amazing.

    • @QueenslandSmash
      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SSG UnDeaD This was only the second one we did :p but I totally agree with everything you said haha. We dont use primer because our spray has like built in primer that ends it bond to plastic already. And I definitely know the feeling of outside/in the garage :( many paint works have been ruined cause of this :/

    Little late to the party here, but out of curiosity, what kind of paint did you use for the triforce? Was it just more spray paint, or did you use acrylic? And also, what kind of sponge should I look to get for that? I had an idea to turn my controller into a pink and white Fire Emblem controller (complete with white buttons when I get the funding).

    This is really awesome, just one quick question: I'm a Melee player and I main Luigi and Ganondorf. I would like to paint my controller to look like them, but what should I do? I was thinking maybe the front part of the controller would be green (for Luigi) and the back would be purple (for Ganondorf) but what would my symbol be? Maybe a Luigi cap or a green fireball, or if I flipped it maybe a triforce on the front or Ganon's fist with the triforce of power. I don't know what would look cool though, does anyone have any ideas?

    Could you use a white controller instead of sanding, or is the sanding to remove the base, so that the new colors stick?

    • @QueenslandSmash
      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +alwgaming1 Sanding is to make the new paint stick. But one of the first controllers I did this too, I didnt sand and just sprayed it on. And it stuck perfectly fine and is still in good condition now. Sanding does make the controller feel a little different (more smooth). So up to you I guess, but sanding will give it a longer life Id assume.

      Vivian L They're cheap and we already had them! (: They aren't the most amazing quality but they do the job, a proper sponge would be much better I think. We were pretty much just improvising with the materials we had.

      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watulio I dont think you really can unless you do another method (no clue what else you would do though). Mine only come out a tiny bit glossy, when I buy my paint there's generally two cans, one would be like "blue" whilst the other is "blue gloss" so depends on what you use as well.

    So quick question, I did this, basically exactly the same as you. And now even after days, the controller feels the tiniest bit tacky, and still reeks of spray paint. Is that normal? I can play with it fine, it just kinda sucks.

    • @QueenslandSmash
      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sebastian Bustos-Smith definitely not normal. I've done over 10 now and none of them smell like spray paint at all, they all fine, the texture is a tiny bit different (but you get use to it in like 5mins) but it doesn't feel tacky.

    • @NoName-yq2jn
      @NoName-yq2jn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alright okay, just gonna say the process is NOT and I repeat: it is NOT the same as shown in the video. If you are going to paint the buttons, you need to put a ring of tape on the inside of the holes where the buttons should be on the shell, and you should only put on 2 coats of paint on the buttons themselves. I learned this the hard way, luckily the controller was one that was broken anyways. I may post a video on the process soon if I am going to pain it again.

      8-bit Bomber In australia (since our stuff is so expensive), $11.45 for a can of spray paint (so 22.90 if you're doing two tone), + primer which is another $10 (though the can can do like 20 controllers probably so I only had to buy it once and ive done a lot of designs) + acrylic paint (not sure how much this is). So Probably 22.45-40 aud. Not sure if you can buy smaller cans of paint, but I use mine multiple times so it ends up being worth it.

    • @PenUmbra87_
      @PenUmbra87_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christina De Ville I know this is like a year later, but The point of sanding it is to make sure that the new paint actually sticks. I believe the clear controllers still have some form of a gloss on the outside, and you'd be safer sanding the whole thing lightly to get that coat off, but not so much that you scratch the plastic ridiculously

    does this work on a wavebird wireless controller?

    • @meh8650
      @meh8650 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Richie “Nuzleaf” Gonveda 3 weeks late soz :P
      It should. A Wavebird isn't that much different compared to the wired controller. It's just missing the rumble motor thing and it's got the extra slider for turning it on, but that's attached to the circuit board so it shouldn't cause any difficulties. The shell itself is just a different size so that it can cover that extended part of the board.
      Also if you didn't know (but you should know this already), the rumble feature isn't in the Wavebird because it was an attempt by Nintendo to save battery life.
      To be honest, it is a very fair drawback; after all, you're no longer restricted by a ~2m long cable (which, by the way, is a pain in the a** sometimes). I don't find any problem with it since I always stuck close to my Cube and Wii though, but it might present itself as a problem at, say, Sm4sh tourneys since they expect that super long cable on the new controllers.

      I wouldn't mess with a wavebird. Just import a Japanese official GC controller. (There even longer then smash ones)

    • @chroma7953
      @chroma7953 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Richie “Nuzleaf” Gonveda Yeah. Only difference is one is a different shape. Just google how to take apart a wavebird, and then you'll end up with two plastic halves that you can paint. And the battery cover.

      +zach358 do it all the same, but buy a matte clear coat instead of a gloss. You definitely need a clear coat regardless of what finish it gives. It protects the paint

    • @QueenslandSmash
      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      naruto uzumaki has to be spray paint that bonds to plastic, otherwise you have to spray primer on it first (then you SHOULD be able to use any spray paint if you use primer first). But I don't use the primer method so I cant 100% confirm.

    really cool stuff dude. My question is how much did this all cost you.including the tri wig and the adhesive

    • @QueenslandSmash
      @QueenslandSmash  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exiled Runners The controller (was given to me to do so free for that? :p). The spray paint was $11.45, and the clear coat was around $10, but both of these can be used multiple times so its worth it in the long run if you do more (also keep in mind im australian so I assume our pain costs a lot more then yours). The triwing costs $1 off ebay, free shipping from hongkong (though 1 month shipping times RIP). The adhesive and paint (used for the triforce) my gf already had so Im not sure on exact prices, but adhesive would be like under $5 from any store that has stationary supplies I'm guessing. So all up it was probably around 30, but all of the materials can be used again, and since I do a lot of these and definitely worth it, since after you have the materials the first time, I can basically produce like 10+ for that $30 lol.

    • @chroma7953

      +timo slijkerman No. It should paint fine. Just sand it out well so that it's pretty smooth all around. THat's what lots of people do, Get a shitty controller or console, and paint it so it's like new and has a cool design.
