How To: Diagnose and Replace a PCV Valve
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 2 ก.ค. 2024
- PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. The PCV system removes harmful oil vapors from the engine and prevents them from being released into the atmosphere and control the flow of the vapor from the crankcase to the intake manifold. Replacement is considered a maintenance item, so it’s important to replace the valve regularly. Some manufacturers recommend replacement as often as every thirty thousand miles.

If you’re having severe symptoms or aren’t completely sure about diagnosing this yourself, we’d be happy to recommend a professional technician in your area… But here are a few of the symptoms you might be noticing if your PCV valve is failing:
The most obvious warning signs are: smoke coming out of the tailpipe or excessive oil consumption.
If the PCV valve is stuck in the open position, it will draw excess vapors from the crankcase and burn more oil than expected.
Another clue is an engine that’s running roughly due to oil-contaminated spark plugs.
This may also be due to excessive flow from the PCV valve.
Even if your car isn’t running roughly, your oil can provide clues that the PCV valve is failing.
Check for oil spots on your garage floor… a leak could be caused by excess crankcase pressure from a clogged valve.
It’s possible this could cause gasket failure.
And when you change your oil, keep an eye out for sludge draining from the tank… it could be caused by a faulty valve allowing combustion gasses to blend with your oil.
Keep an eye out for any or all of these symptoms.
If you have a faulty PCV valve, it’s important to replace it before any other damage occurs.
For most vehicles, this is a project you can do yourself. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I did not expect an auto parts store video to actually be helpful lol

Thank you. I have oil burning and every time I take my car in for oil change I tell them and they have never mentioned pcv valve. I figured it out when I changed my air flow sensor.

$8 part and probably 5 minutes most to replace it? And my local dealership wanted to charge $300? Yeah no thank you.
What kind of car do you have? Some are sneaky and put the PCV into the intake manifold. That means replacing the entire intake manifold just to replace the PCV

I bought a new fuelmeiser pcv valve and was wondering if you blow in it should it be completely sealed, the valve I bought very slowly leaks air as I blow into it is this ok or should I send it back?
Can this valve cause the vehicle to hesitate and idle roughly?
Yes

How do u replace a pcv valve for a 1992 Honda accord
Replacing this costs almost $500 according to my local chevy dealership!
Do you own a newer engine or turbocharged motor? Some Chevy's have the PCV embedded inside the intake manifold. So that requires a complete manifold replacement just to fix the PCV.

Sx4 2013 pcv is 190k old. Oil is disappearing 2 qts every 5k miles. Is it worth trying to clean it?
A pcv valve is at most $15, it's up to you but $15 doesn't seem too much if it's brand new. It'll probably be even cheaper at some places.
Can you do a replacement on a 2012 Toyota Camry SE?
I have blue smoke coming out of my cars exhaust when taking off any idea?
If it happens during acceleration, then it's more likely bad piston rings.
There’s heaps of gunk inside where my pcv enters the engine? Is this bad and should I do anything?
Is it the same on diesel engines like GM chevy diesel?
Just paid $173 for my 2006 Honda Civic at the dealership here in Canada. (Parts $41, Labor $132)

Where is the pcv valve at audi a 3 s line quattro diesel 2016 , I can't find it ? Thanks
Yeah my Lexus was throwing a little bit of smoke from the exhaust. The PCV valve was broken (if you shake it. It makes a noise. A good PCV valve stays silent) so I replaced it and my exhaust issue is gone.
On a 08 Lexus es350 you need a 19mm deep socket.
Actually a good PCV valve DOES make noise ie; rattles when you shake it! The valve has a one way mechanism that opens when letting the vapors into the manifold to burn off but stops then from going back in by preventing back flow. Most PCV valves sound make a sound similar to a can of spray paint when you shake them!
@@bigtuna9529 your right ! I was completely wrong. But my car is definitely letting off less exhaust fumes and I'd say it looks normal now and doesn't smell rich. I'm pretty sure I'm not just seeing things lol.
Anyways the PCV valve was the original so it gives me piece of mind to replace it either way.

oil vapor? is it not fuel air mixture?
Nope. You should never have fuel in your valve cover. Something would be horribly wrong if you did.
Where is my PCV VALVE on my 2017 Nissan Titan XD PLATINUM RESERVE TRUCK with the Cummings turbo Diesel engine?
I have a 2015 Chev Malibu with 177000 km and it shows code 0089 and code
0016. Code 0089 says it's the fuel pressure regulator and the 0016
says it's the bank 1 camshaft position sensor. I called the dealership for the price of the FPR and they tell me they don't have one on the computer. A dummy like me believes him because I don't find any videos of anyone working on the 2015 which seems to be different than the others in the engine. diesel engines don´t produce vaccum, so they don´t have pcv valves?
how come? they still move up and down, producing positive pressure to the internal oil chamber
I don't locate pcv valve place for sportage 2000
But wat if we don't have a garage floor
Doesnt it throw a code if faulty? I have smoke coming out my tailpipe mechanic said its a blown or cracked head.
Is it white or black?

no, usually there is no sensor attached - you have to check manually

How To Diagnose a PCV Valve? There is no way, you can only Replace it!
Andrey Yeltsov it’s supposed to only allow air to go one direction through the part
Clean it with carb spray.test it a one way valve. If it doesn't seal in the one way direction.it needs to be replaced
Mine rattles
If the spark plugs are contaminated with oil, can the spark plugs be salvaged simply by cleaning the oil on them or must they be replaced?
yes
Ya
If the plugs are fouled with oil you have big problems. Either your head gasket, or rings are not sealing. You can clean the plugs but if it fouls again you need to dig into the engine and figure out where the oil is coming from.
If you taking them out you might as well replace them. No point in trying to be cheap about it.

You may have a blown head gasket if pressure and smoke are coming from underneath the oil cap. If the oil cap has froth on it then it is 100 percent a blown head gasket.
