    There is an image that Japanese people don't date a lot. Certainly, a study shows that about 50% of twenty-something people in Japan are currently single.
    I asked Japanese people why those singles people are not in a relationship.

      +Demian Haki Cause he was through with the BS and is enjoying his freedom. He probably was like those dudes until he just got too frustrated with the games and decided, "I'm not doing that again.".
      Those dudes who are unsure are mostly unsure because they think if they bang a chick they are getting themselves into a relationship. The prospective heavy baggage will always signal their brain to not pursue. They don't know how to define their own boundaries and treat themselves with respect in a way that woman will notice., and then have to follow his self-definition if she wants to spend any time with him at all.

    I find it interesting that a lot of Japanese people in your videos tend to think of foreign guys as super confident womanizers. In reality there are plenty of shy guys who don't dare approach a girl if their life depended on it also in Europe and other parts of the world (me included). It's probably because the only image they have from foreign men are from movies where you only see handsome male leads who get all the girls.

      Samuel Kajah Bc ingrained tradition. That's what society teaches, so that's what (most) women expect. It's what "makes them feel like women".
      No offense to the lady who said "men have no balls", but neither do most ladies (not to be literal). Again, it stems from ingrained tradition. It sucks to be the pursuer bc it's just bleeding out resources & emotion for a CHANCE at A chance at happiness. Everything's "equal rights", except for cases like choosing who gets to do the legwork in the dating game.

    While over here in America...it's not even uncommon for kids in fourth or fifth grade to date, but it's really not 'love' in most cases, more like getting a higher position in the hierarchy just because of the stigma that those who don't date are losers and those who do date are 'cooler' -_-
    Most 13/14 year olds in my school have dated at least once and goes to these things called 'dances' where it's basically like a night club only for teens on weekends. Those who are in a relationship have so much drama occurring around them, sometimes I wonder if they're tired...but from my perspective, dating to them just seems like a hobby. They are arguing over who stole their boy/girlfriends, didn't text back, didn't change their status on Facebook or put them in their bios on Instagram, didn't post photos/videos of them together on social medias, and etcetera.
    I've never dated as of yet, and I enjoy keeping to myself and just stay as friends with other people. Is it weird that I never had a crush since kindergarten? Sure, I guess I don't mind being friends with guys and girls or anything, but I don't really feel it's necessary to go beyond that boundary. Maybe I haven't found the right person since no one really is into the same hobbies as me, so we don't have much topics to talk about. Oh well, I still have a long way to go in life, relationships can wait :p

    Different strokes for different folks. I am in Spain. Definitely relaxed about dating. Some people go to bars just for sex partners, but doesn't interest me. I want to feel intellectually and emotionally stimulated in a relationship, so someone to share things with and build a common project together.
    If I see anybody is more interested in my salary or how much money I spend than in who I am I immediately rule them out. Best thing is to be financially independent and have a relationship based on common affinity, not money. I'm not interested in paying anybody for company. Also as we say here, better to be alone than in bad company.

    Here in Sweden most people don't really _"date"_. That's more of an American invention, and to a lot of people here the idea of having like a job interview for a relationship is very off-putting. We more hang around with different people and if we meet someone we're interested in we flirt a bit to try and figure out if we'd get shot down or not, and then kind of go _"You're pretty cool, I like you. Maybe we should give it a shot?"_ and they respond either _"Nah."_ or _"Yeah sure."_ and there you go. None of this beating around the bush.
    Although dating has become more popular as of late, due to Americanization. A lot of teenagers are very enamoured with everything American, like American culture and want to be more like Americans. So they date, and celebrate halloween, and valentine's day, and all of that jazz. Personally I think it's kind of sad that they want to be something they're not.

    In Japan, having bf/gf has become a norm for younger people. And searching their future-husband/wife is like an interview with resume. I felt as if I was on a price tag. I felt so pressured by many friends who say "why don't you make gf?"
    I'm a middle-aged japanese guy(42yo) and had been single. In my 20s and 30s, I struggled against harsh symptoms of depression. I envied many of my friends who enjoy having gfs/bfs, and felt so much inferior to them.
    Now I've found the one now. I talked of how deep my inferiority complex to them was, and she said; I love you, who you really are.

    I always thought it odd that Japanese seem so nonchalant about dating in their twenties, but at the same time it seems there is a lot of pressure to be married by thirty. So then there's got to be a mad scramble in the late twenties. Or has the pressure to marry changed as well?

    • @ThatJapaneseManYuta

      Krahn Check out the statistics: www.yutaaoki.com/blog/japan-sex-statistics-by-sagami
      It's quite possible that all the people who don't date in their 20s rush to get married in their 30s. Marriage has a more important place in Japanese society than dating.

    In my country you can see very diverse situations. It's normal to have your first "relationship" with 12, although... I think they either do nothing and just bare that gf/bf label, lol, or at the most kiss, but in private. But it's also completely normal to have your first relationship with 18. The thing I find weird is that if they ask you at 16/17/18 if you've ever had a bf/gf and/or if you've ever kissed and the answer's no it's super weird, you're not labaled a loser, but it's still super weird, then again if someone finds out you had your first relationship with 18 it's not weird to them, at least to most. There is a pressure to be in a relationship or to have some sort of an active sexual/lustful/romantic life, but not as much as in Korea or some parts of the U.S., more than Japan. But even having that pressure you're not an outcast for not living up to those expectations, although, there are many diverse situations, so... you might be. If people know you've had at least one relationship up until 20 they wouldn't butt in your bussiness and it's somewhat similar later on as well, I guess. Being a virgin is looked down upon, especially if you own it and you're not necessarily looking to change it. It's rare that close circles of friends have diverse views on relationships and sex life, it happens and it's not weird at all, but it's rare. One of my best friends is way more active than me and she's fine with my choices and I'm fine with hers, we never let that stop our friendship from deepening. That's RARE.

    My country is also a "victim" of Americanization.. I've had classmates talking about being in a relationship since I was like 10 y/o. Everyone wants someone to have sex with but less people want to actually get married and also, there are waaaay more females than males so nowdays it seems like many ladies are just desperate to find a man, anyone, more than to find their "true love". Seeing this situation, I've honestly lost all interest in dating :/

    Currently I live in Canada and in universities the dating scene is practically non-existent. People seem to find it easier to just do one-night-stands or no-strings-attached relationships. I'm not one of these guys (in fact I still have all my cards if you know what I mean) because I'm one of those quaint romantics who's waiting for someone that's actually worth being in a real relationship with.
    Anyways, from personal experience and from other people I know besides university students, I would say that dating is uncommon because it requires sacrifice and a deep emotional bond. That's something people are afraid of doing, especially since many get into relationships based solely on infatuations or just for the sake of being in one and then (eventually) break up. People prefer to be on the safe side and avoid the emotional trauma and losing a part of yourself. So in reality, Japan doesn't really have it much different than "foreign" countries.
    I know I can't say much when it comes to dating, but I do know that I would have been worse off looking for any relationship I could get than taking care of myself and being patient. I have been able to do lots of things in my life that I do not regret, and its all thanks to taking care of myself and find out who I am rather than be in relationships that would have likely failed.

    I think i fit in more with how Japanese men are because in the US everybody i grew up with is always dating or married, pregnant or having kids..or more kids, and i am here, 26 as of last month, never dated anybody really and got shot down on all the girls i was interested in at one point but the weird thing is i have been asked out about 2 dozen times over the years but i never liked any of them that way and turned them all down but a couple were bat shit crazy and one was obsessive over me till i had to put her in her place and stop that shit cause she was so nuts, also doesn't help i was pretty much head over heels for my best friend for about 10 damn years till i realized it wouldn't work and burnt that bridge, she never knew what she wanted even though at one point she admitted she liked me a lot at one point just to retract that a year later, now she got married a few months ago...she hooked up with her first real boyfriend pretty much after i burnt that bridge, been 3 years since. Same thing with sex and all that shit, i never have so yeah i'm a virgin but i could have multiple times, but turned it down each time, one was pissed i wouldn't get in her pants and said it to everybody, she was a slut, the last time one of my friends i found out she liked me a lot and tried sleeping with me but she just came out of a bad breakup, i took her off me and talked to her instead of using her like that, my friends don't give me shit for it all and my female friends respect me for my views and understand how i am, but my family puts me down constantly and makes fun of me ( last night for a matter of fact my cousin and dad were busting my balls making fun of me for it, and the other day my 18 year old sister was too, yet my female cousin who is 2 years younger than me is and refuses till she is married but she never gets made fun of, well her last bf dumped her for that reason but yeah still....) so damn annoying and pisses me off
    also doesn't help i am pretty much nearly only attracted to asians and i haven't seen many asians around where i live...only whites, mexicans and blacks in the majority :/
    /sadlifestoryrantoff, not in a good mood at the momen(terrible week/weekend) and need to vent

    • @PsYchotic666Joker
      @PsYchotic666Joker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blueraineee Yeah i understand what you mean, i have even heard from female friends of mine and some who have liked me even said it wasn't important and some wish they had waited till they were older (she was 12 at the time o.O )
      As for my family thing yeah i have told them that before, my mom says she is glad i don't do what others do but at the same time wants me to be with somebody, dad too even though he makes fun of me lol, the sister who makes fun of me...she also is a virgin yet she makes fun of me for being one? female logic... , she keeps bugging me too for having kids cause she wants to be an aunt but when i do have kids i already promised my family they aren't seeing them, i don't want my kids to be messed up like me.
      i had a bad time growing up and still do in my adulthood since i live with them again, moved out but had to come back after i had to quit my job and couldn't afford to be on my own anymore. As for the sex before marriage i am pretty much the same pretty much, maybe doesn't have to be married to have sex but be in a long term meaningful relationship with somebody i truly love, which hasn't happen yet but one day....

    • @blueraineee
      @blueraineee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heinrich6745 It's a blessed thing to wait for someone. Is your relationship with your family sort of bad? It sounds like you guys really need to have a deep talk.
      Jobs are generally hard to find and more often than not, you can't get the job you want. I'm sure you'll get by fine if you try harder.
      Love will eventually come to you :) I was told that I'll meet my special person later into the future at a specific place, but I just can't believe it because it seems so unreal, but all i gotta do is to get past this stage right now.

    • @PsYchotic666Joker
      @PsYchotic666Joker 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      blueraineee yeah my relationship with my family is pretty bad, had a rough time growing up with lots of drama and everybody has anger issues and is stubborn lol, my sisters are bitches, dad is disabled (and had a full knee replacement last month), trying to get him on disability since 2009 too.
      I would say i have to deal with drama nearly every day too which sucks cause i wanna live in peace but my family sucks, was nice when i moved away for work which i am trying to do again, hoping i can hear soon and if it works i will move to texas with a good buddy of mine, he will be my boss if it turns out to be how we are hoping, the thing holding me back is my family cause all my money goes to them and i can never save anything up, doesn't help i need a proper education, never finished high school back in the day cause of many issues i had in school, my school was terrible when i went there but once my sister went there it changed and got better lol....go figure.
      Here's to hoping things work out for both of us and eventually we meet that somebody!
      P.S. hopefully she is Japanese. :3

      If you're interested in a particular person just talk to them and show you're available/interested, you'll most likely realize whether or not they're interested in you quite quickly. If not then move on, it can be awkward at first but its worth it once you find someone.

    • @Sylphon

    I wanted to hug the guy that said he'd recently broken up with his girlfriend. He seemed a bit shaky in his answers, maybe hurt and vulnerable. Poor baby. I'm sure he'll find someone else in due time though.
    Also...this is a bit weird, but...in a way, I like that Japan isn't as aggressive with dating as here in the U.S. That shyness means less sexual harassment. It means less cockiness and arrogance, even if it does mean a sacrifice in confidence. I'd rather a shy guy where I can approach him comfortably rather than being hit on aggressively to the point of harassment. Or someone suddenly touching up on me.

    • @Radeo
      @Radeo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fluffymiyster You might feel differently about that if you ended up having to initiate everything. Chicks here are borderline resentful about having to lead.
      The grass is always greener.

    • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Radeo Maybe, I can't say that would never irk me at some point. I'm sure men feel that way about women here in the west, haha! But I'm not going to lump either hemisphere into a single category of this and that. While one outcome is more likely with each side (shyer men in the east, loud confidence in the west), I know that's not every guy. So, east or west, I'm looking for that middle ground :)
      And honestly...I've found that in the face of a weakness or hesitancy of another person, I often don't mind stepping up and leading, lol. Initiating is fine. Having to deal with a "no man", someone that's too scared to ever do anything outside of their normal routine, is where I would start to get an anime vein pulsing in my temple, XD!

    The reason there is such disparity is because the expectations of men buying them things and spending what little they already make, after being overworked working 16+ hour days is not worth the trouble.

    • @harrymcnicholas9468
      @harrymcnicholas9468 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nobody works 16 hours a day. You would be dead. Much of that "work" is bending their elbows at the bars with their fellow workers.

    The first question reminded me of a psychology study where they asked Japanese and Italian boys how many girlfriends they
    Had through school. While the Italians reported 14-15 the Japanese mainly said 0-1

      ***** Not only in England, even in America you find that the majority of men will open doors for others, not only woman but for other men and children, or allow woman to enter first. My 35 years of experience has led me to the understanding, older gentlemen and ladies, will thank you.. Male Adults will thank you for holding a door for them if their hands are full... female adults ranging from mid 30's to early 20's will ignore the person holding the door and keep walking without a word... Teens are teens and very mattering their upbringing and rebellious nature. That is what my experience has shown me in America.

    Key to success in all situations is to be a go getter. A dominant force that puts yourself out there, and is expressive. If you don't attempt to take, and keep holding yourself back, then you'll never get. As the saying goes "It's better to try and fail, then to never try at all. If you're hurt, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" So boys and girls everywhere. be balsy and try and form a friendship with that guy and girl, then maybe form a true deep relationship. because the best girlfriends/boyfriends, are the girlfriends you can learn from and enjoy hobbies together.

    As a German living in Japan I don't think that dating in Japan is any different than in Germany and probably many other countries. Japanese people tend to have a wrong image of what 'foreign countries' are like, which can also be seen in this video. They talk about how 'foreign guys' are much more aggressive, basically grouping all (western) countries together as if there aren't any differences.
    From my experience that is not true at all. Some Japanese guys are shy, some are agressive and so are guys from any country.

    More of these interviews! Great stuff. In our country (Slovakia) everyone would say yes because most of our people in this age are just too horny. But there are exeptions. Whenever they see a women they just can't help to look back. For example my sister can't be without a partner for a longer time, when she broke up with someone it won't be long before she'll find someone. Yop, that's the situation pretty much almost everywhere in Slovakia.

    Hello Yuta. I just want to hear your opinion related to issues brought up by some of your videos. A lot of Japanese girls mention that they prefer their Japanese men to be like the Western men in terms of their outgoing personality and "ladies first" mindset. Some of the women you interviewed also seemed to blame the lack of dating that is occuring in Japan right now to the "herbivores" mindset of Japanese men, and they themselves will never initiate a relationship and rely on the men to initiate it. The men that you interview seems to be shy people, which is understandable considering the Japanese society, but doesn't the Japanese female population realize that part of the reasons why men are shy to approach girls for dating is because they are constantly reminded of the possibility that they will be viewed as creeps if they accidentally become too intimate with girls? Japanese men did not grow up in a culture where they learn how to intimately interact with girls, so this mindset of being viewed as creep is particularly damaging to their interest in dating girls.

      bintuae1 I see. Yeah, the West and East are pretty different. If there isn't much dating, is it hard to find someone? Are there many divorces in china? In America, although there is a lot of dating, we have a high divorce rate. Why, if we see so many people, there are so many in unhappy marriages? *****

    I agree with one of the Japanese girls who said that Japanese guys don't approach the girls , the girls have to approach them to talk to. I'm not saying that it should always be the guys that need to approach the girls to talk to them but there are girls who are too shy to approach anyone so it helps to be approached first, just as some girls are confident enough to approach guys. I was in Japan for a month in May and when I wanted to meet Japanese guys I had to struggle a bit since there was a language barrier and also because I wasn't used to approaching a guy due to my shy nature. ><
    Good job with the video! I had a lot of similar experiences like the people in the video so I could connect with it. The questions were very well put as usual too :) keep up the good work!
