I've been living in Japan for awhile now and the first time I dated someone who was Japanese I asked a simple question. "What color are my eyes?" You know that one that every girl does in every romance movie ever? Yeah, that one. I thought it would be cute since we'd been dating for a few months. You know what his answer was? Blue. As someone with brownish hazel eyes, that answer hurt. The reason that it hurt was I realized that he was not dating me, he was dating his ideal foreign girl. Who cares about being able to communicate, to have deep serious conversations about the future or the universe or what-have-you, when you look good? I mean, you're only a temporary status symbol that he can tell his friends about. "Hey hey! My girlfriend is American!" "Whaaaat, seriously?! How lucky!!!" The boys in this video are not cute, they are not funny, they're superficial and that one little punk staring at 15 year old girls on the train needs to stop being a creep. And the comment about wanting to see what it's like to date a black woman because recently he's been into the music?! How am I the only one angered by that comment?? This mentality of "I'll see what it's like dating a foreigner, but that's it," is really hurtful. When I date someone it is because I have fallen in love with who they are as a person. Hell, I might even consider marriage if it goes on long enough. I'm not one for casual dating so those who are, more power to you, may not have the same thinking in this regard. But I would never try to date someone just to try out a different ethnicity or culture. They are fetishizing foreign women as much as the commenters are fetishizing Japanese men and it disheartens me. Unless your intent for wanting to date someone specifically Japanese is just for a marriage visa, which is messed up, then stop with the "I love Japanese men!" and "I want a Japanese boyfriend!!" Because you are literally saying that you will date someone whose ONLY CREDENTIAL IS THEIR NATIONALITY. Not who they are as a person, or if you mesh well as people. Would you want to date someone who only sees you as a stereotype? Because it doesn't feel good. Actually it makes you feel like shit. Take my advice and date someone that loves YOU. I don't know why she asked me that, I have a foreign name but I think I look like any other spanish like my parents and grandparents do (well, some people thought I was from Russia lol). Some days later she dumped me without any reason. I have to say that she liked England a bit too much and wished to live there... I am a Japanese born living in Europe What I see is that westerners who Japanese people see in Japan and westerners live in North America and Europe are completely different. Because those westerners are living in Japan for their personal purpose (business, study, and experience) However, they don't think the way Japanese people generally think. For instance, marriage. As far as I know from my European friends, they say they don't see any points of being married and don't want to get married with anyone. But it depends on individuals.

Yuta just makes me laugh when he ask's them if they'd be open to dating a black woman, it's mainly because I haven't really seen this asked in other videos from men who are in Japan or other parts of Asia to be honest. So it's a refreshing surprise and really sort of shocking for me, ( though it shouldn't be) but since when you ask Asian men from different Asian countries if they'd be open to dating a foreign girl the first thing they think of is a white female... Asian countries (let's just say continent) we are family oriented and we tend to value family and take family matters seriously (that's why Asians parents are view as strict especially if you live in south east where we are more direct. because of this we Asians are not really romantic and passionate lovers. It's been one year since I date a japanese guy. It wasn't something I expected particulary (date an asian guy, especially seriously), I just liked him in the first place no matter if he was white or asian or anything... I'm french, and he speaks french very well but its not his mother thong for all that. But you know what? I can communicate with him and even if its obviously more difficult, we are able to understand each other. I'd say something about the benefit of a mixed relationship : we are so much more understanding with the other, so much more tolerant and as we don't speak the same language, we can't say all the things that come to mind like we'd do with someone of our own country. We have to be careful, we have to THINK before saying anything and this fact brings a lot of respect into our relationship. In the end, I don't think date a japanese guy, for an european like me, is impossible or difficult. It's a real experience, it's beautiful and surprising even if, of course, we have to deal with things other couples don't have to. I just love him enough to do so.

They might get over it, but I don't think there's anything good to come out of it. They don't know much about foreigners except what they see on the tv (and maybe the few they've come into contact with). I think as more people visit Japan their view of the world is going to change (obviously). If that makes any sense at all. You have to remember that most of them have probably never seen a black person in real life, and all they have to go by is the media. Japanese men aren't known for being too confident (if that wasn't obvious to you) and since the media portrays black women as being "a strong black woman who don't need no man" that kind of makes their confidence dwindle more. Yeah, I don't get why Japanese people look up to western people a lot. I have a white uncle and half-white cousins, and when I took them to Japan they got crazy stares. My cousins were told they were gorgeous all the time.Some people even came up to me and asked if they were half Japanese. They assumed I was Japanese, hell. I am glad I can speak Japanese to save my life. I was really entertained by the amount of people coming up to me to ask permission to take pictures with my cousins though. I had never experienced this anywhere else before. But really, being treated as exotic breed isn't exciting :/

What I see is that westerners who Japanese people see in Japan and westerners live in North America and Europe are completely different. Because those westerners are living in Japan for their personal purpose (business, study, and experience)

I always come back to this video or other videos of yours when I'm revising for a Japanese text, as listening to Japanese tends to help me study. At 4:14 the boy makes me laugh every time when he pipes up with "chopsticks" as being a difficulty to marrying or dating a girl.

Asian countries (let's just say continent) we are family oriented and we tend to value family and take family matters seriously (that's why Asians parents are view as strict especially if you live in south east where we are more direct. because of this we Asians are not really romantic and passionate lovers. It's been one year since I date a japanese guy. It wasn't something I expected particulary (date an asian guy, especially seriously), I just liked him in the first place no matter if he was white or asian or anything... I'm french, and he speaks french very well but its not his mother thong for all that. But you know what? I can communicate with him and even if its obviously more difficult, we are able to understand each other. I'd say something about the benefit of a mixed relationship : we are so much more understanding with the other, so much more tolerant and as we don't speak the same language, we can't say all the things that come to mind like we'd do with someone of our own country. We have to be careful, we have to THINK before saying anything and this fact brings a lot of respect into our relationship.
In the end, I don't think date a japanese guy, for an european like me, is impossible or difficult. It's a real experience, it's beautiful and surprising even if, of course, we have to deal with things other couples don't have to. I just love him enough to do so.

That would be awful for me, lmao. My family is highly racist towards Asians, especially Eastern ones. They might get over it, but I don't think there's anything good to come out of it. They also think I'm a weaboo and have this desire to be Japanese and to do everything Japanese, so I'd never hear the end of it if I dated an Asian man(as far as they're concerned, all Eastern Asians are the same-- wouldn't matter if he were Japanese, Korean or Chinese).

I fight with my mum all the time about my interests in Asia and they think I actually want to become Asian when I honestly don't I just want to learn about the culture and language of different countries but my parents can't seem to understand my curiosity and are always saying, "why don't you go learn an African language?" Maybe I will do that one day when I can actually GO to Africa because you can't learn a traditional African language in any Nova Scotian universities and once again, my parents don't seem to understand this. They don't know much about foreigners except what they see on the tv (and maybe the few they've come into contact with). I think as more people visit Japan their view of the world is going to change (obviously). If that makes any sense at all. You have to remember that most of them have probably never seen a black person in real life, and all they have to go by is the media. Japanese men aren't known for being too confident (if that wasn't obvious to you) and since the media portrays black women as being "a strong black woman who don't need no man" that kind of makes their confidence dwindle more. That's probably why their demeanor changed when asked that question. I could be wrong of course.
