  • In this video I am back in Cornwall, although this time I'm in Sennen cove!
I take time out on a family holiday to Freedive and do some spearfishing at Sennen Cove.
I search through Kelp forests and see loads of fish and marine life. I find a massive shipwreck with loads of Sea bass hanging around and even have a close up encounter with the RNLI!

Great story and footage 👍 a big dive flag helps being visible to boat users quite a bit. Well worth it

Cheers mate! Yeah I've had a fair few comments about the lack of a flag! Trying to make one ATM with some random fabric I have laying about, we'll see how that goes!

Gutting the fish on location is the job saved a crab this year out of a stomach he stretched out his arms took a huge breath and away with him lol. But now I do it at home to keep the waste for next years fertiliser for garden. It's good stuff for growing.

No way! Bet that crab was the wtf?!! Lucky guy!
I do it away from home to keep the kitchen clean and not just chuck it in the bin. Never thought to use it for that, must be high in nutrients! Surely it smells horrendous though?

@OceanicMatt yea it stinks like mad I just have it in a sealed bucket down the bottom of the garden. Not opened it for ages cos got no fish. A bucket of this stuff thrown indoors would leave a place uninhabitable for centuries. I do know a place I'd like to do that maybe someday. ..lol

@OceanicMatt also that crab was alive and yea was mad to see him gather himself and go wtf just happened but that bass was not huge and he took a 45g lure he was a hungry bass. Had another crab and sand eel too. Good Times but seems their gone not had one no matter how I try bad year for East cost of eire. Wales seemed better from what TH-cam showed this past 2 months.

😂😂😂 I can think of a few places also...That's a shame, I've not been out this year as much as I'd have liked due to the crap weather we've had. Hopefully next year is a better one! I've heard Ireland is a great place to dive, especially down south?

Great Visibility must admit i love snorkeling around the Cornish Waters in the Summer. I am from Switzerland 🇨🇭 so accustomed to cold lake water.
Will be in Cornwall for a month in june will bring a mask and snorkel with my wet suit.

Cornwall's great isn't it... I try to go there at least once every year in the summer!!
Ahh nice, the water should be around 14 degrees by then shouldn't it, practically tropical! 😂 What part of Cornwall are you headed to??

@@OceanicMatt usually we go to Perranporth. But thats where we stay. As far as snorkeling is concerned i have tried Around the headland around fistral bay. Also found that Godrevy was really good. Tried Lulworth Cove in Dorset.
I used to lake swim around the year in Luzern lake with temperatures at around 5c. But it was more of an energetic swim in 3mm wets suits with head gear and gloves just to keep to pain of the cold away air temperature was sometimes -10c.
Thought what we were doing was far out until a couple of old Swiss ladies turned up and went in without any gear on, they put us in our place!!

    • @OceanicMatt
      @OceanicMatt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Fair play to them!! I do admire all these people that get in without a suit when its that cold😂 We had that when we went diving at Vobster Quay a couple of weeks ago, 7.8 degree water in thick wetsuits and every now and then we'd see people swimming in just in a swim suit!! Not for me 😂
I've not been to Perranporth, although Polly jokes near there though which I've been to a few times, nice area isn't when the water's flat. I lost a GoPro at that headland by Fistral too😂 Where abouts in Lulworth did you go?

@@willheath407That's awesome, you should definitely give it a try in the summer when it's flat and the Vis is good, you'll be surprised how good it is when the conditions are right! A decent fitting open cell wetsuit will sort the cold out for you too. I dive in a 5.5mm and it's fine all year round for me! Understandable about shark worries but the chances of you running into anything dangerous are pretty small, especially in shallow waters!

O never realized in England we had such clear waters. Next time I visit home I need to dive ( I am PADI certified). 1/4 inch dry suite ? Do you see any big stuff like Tuna, or Halibut, or Mackerel ?

When the conditions are right the UK is really good! The south coast can have great visibility. I get by with a 5.5mm suit - a good thickness, I don't know much about dry suits but I'm sure that would be alright! Bluefin Tuna show up around Cornwall and Devon, I've never seen one yet though. Dolphins, Whales and sharks are in UK waters too!

That wreck could have been the Torri canyon which went aground in the early 70s devastating the whole of Sennen cove . I was there when the RAF blew it up to get rid of the oil, the beaces were shut for years and you can still find little blobs of oil under some of the rocks nearly 60 years on
