Spearfishing for Flatfish in shallow water & strong currents!

- In this video I initially started with a plan to dive a wreck at Chesil beach. The conditions turned out to be less than ideal and were not what I was expecting. So I changed my plans and dive a different location just next to it - Ferry Bridge. This tidal bay can house Flat fish and other marine life so I decided to explore this area, rather than simply go home.
After exploring the deeper areas in the centre, I find flatfish in shallow water. The tide then turns and I fight against the current to find more fish. I was surprised to be greeted by a school of Bass, I then shoot a barely legal Bass and call it a day. - กีฬา
Guys, I f*@cked up taking the Bass from this area.
I've only just found this out but landing Bass in the tidal areas of Ferry Bridge is prohibited. I feel awful about this but people make mistakes, I have educated myself and I won't be making this mistake twice.
Please don't make the same mistake I did and take Bass from this area.
Don't beat yourself up mate, we learn from these mistakes! I've done it before once at Wembury in Plymouth, now I obsessively check any new beach I go to
@@BenMopster Thanks Ben, I appreciate that! I have a feeling I'll be obsessively checking every time from now on too!
Hi matt
Looking at going down there my self in a couple of weeks just getting in to spearfishing a thought it would be a good place to start.is it just bass you can't take from there or is it all fish?
@@leerimini858 Hi mate. From what I've read on the Southern IFCA, Bass is the only restriction (no take) at Ferry bridge. So you'd be fine for flatties and Mullet.
Ferry bridge is nice and shallow so it wouldn't be a bad place to start. Get there at high tide and be careful of the currents when the tide goes out and you'll be fine!
Thanks for the video Matt. You can clearly see the current with the seaweed passing by.
You're welcome Clive, yeah it was pretty strong at points but was quite fun to dive!
Great video mate! I’ve always wondered about spearing that side of chesil, I’ll give it a go next week 🫡🔱
Thanks mate! Good luck! And don't shoot a Bass there 😅
diving in shallow water in such environments is exciting. Congratulations on the catch👌
Thanks mate, it was a fun dive! Next time I might check out under the bridge itself when the water is slack, Doubt there will be a 7kg Pollock there though 😂
@@OceanicMatt haha, no. probably not😅 But diving in shallow water has something special about it. I think it's quiet and peaceful. Can find all sorts of things. Good luck at the bridge next time 👍
WELL DONE FOR HITTING 1K SUBS!!!
Thanks very much!
I wish I was you:( I wish I had more subs. Maybe I don’t make good videos?
@@PenguinPressManager That's very kind but it's taken me a year to get where I am and I was lucky because one of my videos popped off ages ago!
I've still got a long way to go!
I'm in no position to give advice but I'd say that finding a subject you are passionate about that actually makes you want to keep making videos is key. The subs and numbers will follow, just make sure you don't give up 🤙
@@OceanicMattI mean the ocean is my best friend though.. but I don’t spend enough time with him
@@OceanicMattI can’t give up. If I start fishing videos do I get views? Or subs?
random question but what do you do with the loose line that attaches to the spear gun and the spear
That line is wrapped between the line release in the trigger mech at the rear of the gun, and its anchor point on the underside front of the gun. A bungee keeps the line in tension so it stays in position when the gun is cocked!
As far as I’m aware, the taking off bass is discouraged as it is a nursery, however definitely allowed, fished there as an angler for years and taken a fair few too, I can’t see why the rules wouldn’t be the same as rod and line🤷♂️ Brilliant video though!
Fair enough! I only found this area was a nursery after putting the video up! Good to know, but I'll leave Bass alone in this area and use it for flatties only from now on! From the regulation imagery it looks like under the bridge and out to Portland harbour aren't part of the nursery though so that could be alright?
Glad you enjoyed the video too, thanks!
@@OceanicMatt Yes, bridge out into the harbour is where the nursery ends, should be fine!
Will PM you a spot for scallops in and around there if you fancy?👍
@@Jst99z What man wouldn't turn down a place to find scallops! Thanks man, PM me through my channel email 🤙
where do I find that?
