I Captured Fish Behavior NEVER SEEN BEFORE! After Putting My Camera in The Canal!

  • Well it's time for another underwater fishing session. This time we're on the canal and aiming to get some takes in front of the camera. The target species is tench, but on the canal you just never know what's going to happen! It was only after removing my camera from the water that I realized I'd captured some never seen before fish behavior.

I would have to disagree. I just can't understand why he uses ridiculous 3lb line and loses so many fish. Even 70lb braid would not put off those tench. I'd be more inclined to pre-bait in much larger amounts to induce the larger specimens to move in and feed very confidently.

I use Cherry's for Tench. No problem with other fish taking the bait. But you need to feed the fish for some days in advance. Because of the seeds inside and the stalk on the Cherry, the Tench will not react to the hook or line. I also caught a 20 lbs Pike during night fishing Tench, with a single corn on number 12 hook and 0.12 mm line in 50 cm deep water. That was a 30 minute fight. It was after spawning so even though the Pike was 130 cm long it didn't weigh that much. I'm fishing from a rubber boat, in placed other anglers can't fish. It so much better because you don't lose much fish compared to fishing from the shore. I'm not sure if the Pike just inhaled the corn or actively swallowed it. The float just went under a couple of centimeters and stayed submerged. It was in a shallow bay of the Baltic sea. The mouth of the bay is full of seaweed that the fish has to migrate through. A normal session usually yields about 10 Tench and the occasional large Crucian and large Rudd. But they don't take Cherrys though. The longer you pre feed the more Crucian you will catch. If you rake the swim in the evening and create really big cloud of dirty water it improves the fishing. It even works well to create new open water right in the middle of a big field of seaweed. About 5x5 meters and where the water is 70 to 100 cm deep. Tench don't like to shallow water, but Crucian, Rudd and Pike feeds in 30 cms at night. Carp and big Carassius Auratus, you can't fish in the weeds, they fight to hard and run in straight lines. Tench fight hard too, but you can control where it goes with how you put pressure on it. Up to 3 kgs you can use a 6 meter rod without a reel. Bigger ones you will need a reel. My biggest Auratus weighed 3 kgs and fought like a Carp. Crucian on the other hand don't fight at all!

Wonderful footage: I love tench. They are so beautiful and very shy. I really do not like carps. Even in my little pond the golden tench I have for years and feed regularly are hard to watch as they escape in under the vegetation when something is scaring them. I never ate a tench despite the fact that I tried to cook nearly every species of fish I caught at least once to try how they taste.
I was amazed more than once that quite big pikes are sometimes eating tiny worms. A friend caught a big one on a hook size 12 with a tiny worm on it: He was actually trying to catch bait. The hooked pike raced across the big pond straight into the net! The net got completely destroyed but we caught the fish.
This season tenches get ready to have their mating dances in flooded grass. They are really fat now. During their mating after sunset you can sometimes touch them with bare hands. That is the moment they loose all their shyness. It is wonderful to watch. They got so rare where I live. It is a pity.
When I was younger we often went to rescue tenches and many other kind of fish that got trapped in side pools after they were drying out in autumn and early winter. Sometimes I hammered tenches out of the ice. There was no water left in the ponds, but when you massaged them they got back alive.

Appreciate your vid and thanks from Korea. I was intrigued to see that you also use a float to fish a carp; we rig it such that once carp takes the bait, the float slowly rises above the water. At night time, we attach a small light at the tip of the float and when the light rises majestically above the water, 30cm to 1 meter plus depending on the length of the float, the sight is breathtaking. You than have a decision to make whether the catch the carp or enjoy the risen float as long as possible until the fish spits out the hook.
The purpose of the rig is not to catch as many carp as possible, but to enjoy the float rise with a satisfaction that you have rigged the float with perfection.
The trick is to use as thin line as possible, a light hook, small light baits, perfect balance between the sink and the float and patience!

I love tench, beautiful fish. I tend to make up two tubs of ground bait, one loose to throw in and one a stodgy paste so I can mould it around the hook. In fact that's pretty much the only way I fish for everything other than predators. Just vary the size of the paste ball depending what I'm going for. Been doing it that way for 20 years, never fails.

After seeing Korda's underwater videos I got really hooked on underwater videos to better understand the behaviour of different species and ages of fish. Amazing insight as an amateur angler. Now I can help my beginner buddy catch some picky-eaters fish at our lake since he's been struggling on the float. I will definitely tell him to mount his lead a bit further up and tie a push-stop/hair rig for corn. I hope he can finally land some more fish consistently aside from the odd prussian carp orgy days we sometimes get.

I found this video very entertaining and I felt your excitement when you finally netted that fish at the end. I’m from Wisconsin, USA and am not used to this type of fishing but I throughly enjoyed the underwater footage. Good on ya mate. Tight lines!

Great video man! It must have been at least 30 years since i've fished like this. So many good memories. It is how my fishing adventure started. Tench was my favorite fish to catch.

Nice video, much more realistic than an adhd guy wiggeling a caught fish infront of the camera every 30 sec
